It really is incredible. It stays so true to the established history of the character, while giving it a completely new lease of life by telling that story through Alan's perspective. The autobiography and the movie just showed how much of a handle they have on who the character is and why he's funny.

Yeah it's just perfect really. Pretty much unbelievable that it was written by two outsiders, they just nailed the character completely.

Completely forgot about the bit in the James Bond episode where Partridge makes a point of going through the door before Lynn. Textbook Partridge. It's at 2m40 in this clip.

I honestly thought it was illegal to drive in your bare feet because of an assumption I made based on Partridge.

I think there's a scene where people are trying to get work recording testimonials and rubbish for corporate videos or an acting reel, but frequently people throw together money to hire them to say stuff like this.

I think I've said this before but imo the audiobook is the best "thing" of Partridge. I know it's cheating a bit as it's eight hours as opposed to the three hours of each individual series of KMKY and IAP, but I honestly think you could take half an hour's worth of chapters from the book and it would probably stand up to any episode from the shows. Just incredible.

Also the new series of Mid Morning Matters has apparently been filmed according to Tim Key (Sidekick Simon) and will be out this summer.

I genuinely listened to the first one for about 4 weeks straight on my commute to work. Landmarks I was driving past then became associated with random bits of the book.

Is it bad that after about a million watches of I'm Alan Partridge, I only njust noticed a joke (which probably won't have been missed by anyone else, so why am I bothering saying this?) in the Bono episode along the lines of Arrested Development's tendency to include gags which only make sense when you see something later in the episode - Alan giving out London-themed prizes on his radio show, which turn out to be gifts Sonia has given him.

It took me ages to realise that Alan got offended by 'no Alan you can't', because he thought that the South African guy from dante's was calling him a cunt.

I didn't understand a line from Brass Eye for literally about a decade - during the drugs episode, he describes the decade as "not so much the nineties as the yardanka-ties"...and I never got it at all, didn't have a clue what he was on about. Turned out it was a joke about increased drug use using German, "not so much the nein-ties as the ja-danke-ties".

Haha if it makes you feel any better, I found out on a forum as well and I would say about 90% of the forum had never understood the joke. And that was a Chris Morris forum.

I never understood the joke in OFAH where Del sees a helicopter in the sky during the escaped criminal episode, and says "no you're alright, it's Barrett's"...

I didn't get the "YOU CANT" one until I listened to the commentary on the DVD. I got the ya danke tes right away and I don't even know german.

There's loads of Partridge jokes I didn't get but they're out of my mind now. It's just natural though, you need obscure jokes that may or may not make sense. Otherwise it wouldn't be so sweet when you get "That was the best full english breakfast I've had since Gary Wilmot's wedding"

Was there anything to get in that line? I just thought it was the obscurity of the celeb, part of Alan's ongoing name-dropping of fellow F-list celebrities.

Glad I wasn't the only one who didn't get "no you can't" right away. I thought the joke was the guy suddenly shouting it after speaking so calmly to Alan. It made much more sense after I finally got around to watching the episode with the commentary.

I listened to the interview that Coogan did, in character, with Richard Bacon on 5 Live when I Partridge was being released. I love Alan's use of "rudimentary forensics" to deduce that the carpet burns on his quads were the result of Sonia dragging him around and having her way with him while he slept. And the fact that he later got Lynn to recreate the scene.

I love that interview, but hate the way that Bacon has to keep audibly winking to the microphone to let everyone know that he's in on the gag. Play the straight man Bacon you cunt.

Aye there were some moments where he deliberately tried to add to a joke or carry it on in some way, and it just undermined it.

    That should be great.

Another series of Mid Morning Matters is coming to a Sky in February according to Neil Gibbons on Twitter. I wish the new book/audiobook was out this Christmas. Can't wait for it.

There's an article by Alan Partridge on the Guardian's website about the decline of television and his favourite radio presenters. I like how the comments are a mix of people quoting the old shows, people blasting Coogan for cosying up to Sky and people thinking Partridge is a real person making a statement about television.

    The trailer is hilarious.

on a side note sky are doing the next series of the trip with Coogan and Brydon. Excellent news.

From what Coogan's said before that could make The Trip a lot better, Sky don't demand as much involvement with shows as the BBC do (he took MMM to Sky instead of the BBC because they demanded he change the radio studio format) and I suspect a lot of the tacked-on storylines of the first two series with Brydon's cheating and Coogan's son were probably just there at the BBC's request.

The radio play was so good - Alan's exaggerated and replayed laugh at Professor's Hawking's joke, "Sometimes I wish I was disabled but clever with a robot voice" and the look on everyone's face when Sarah overheard "My groin BURNS for you".

I'm delighted that The Trip is coming back and happy with the move to Sky. Brydon's affair was a bit bizarre and hopefully they veer away from that type of thing in the new series.

Was that actually a Baby P joke? Maybe I'm being naive but it didn't seem like it to me, would be quite out of character for Coogan etc to go for the shock joke like that, I think it was just an unfortunate coincidence when he was making his joke about the Black Eyed Peas.

Finally got around to watching this. The radio play with the cover-up of not trying to promote a Range Rover wascthe best part. He made the same moooo noise like he did during the farmers interview.

The last episode was a let-down though.

Watched the Alan Partridge movie on Netflix last night and really enjoyed it. I've never seen a second of "I'm Alan Partridge" or anything else, but the film was top notch.

Mid Morning Matters had me in tears holding my stomach for fear of muscle tears. Top class. I truly hope I die before Coogan.

"He could find a banquet in a bin bag, but couldn't find real balls in his own ball bag".

I loved it when he screamed CEASE FIRE as the bubble wrap was popping.

It's mad that the BBC have let Coogan take Partridge and the next series of The Trip to another channel. Rob and Neil Gibbons have helped to make the character so versatile and there is just endless potential. The follow-up to I, Partridge at the end of the year will surely be brilliant.

The Gibbons' brothers have given the character a new lease of life, bringing fresh ideas while maintaining the tone that made the character so good in the first place. At this point he's so well-realised you can put him in any situation and it will seem like it has mileage. I love him. I'm convinced he's my best friend.

According to Armando Iannucci the BBC weren't happy with the limited set of Mid Morning Matters, they wanted him going out of the studio, basically a third series of IAP. The implication from whatever interview I read that in was that the issue was more BBC's demand for control rather than the specific changes they wanted to make. Obviously Sky allowed them to make it the way they wanted, and they've ended up taking it out the studio anyway. It's a bit of a shame that so few people are watching it now (the viewing figures for the latest doc were apparently tiny) but it seems like the BBC burned their bridges.

The On Demand figures must bump it up a bit though? Nobody tunes in to watch something live now anyway, who can be arsed with the adverts?

A lot of people might not know it exists, it wasn't heavily marketed.

There was a good article I read once, that there are loads of shows that do terrible ratings on Sky and they don't seem to care. It focused on 'Lucky Man' which Sky advertised and hyped to high heaven but nobody watched it. Maybe they just want subscriptions and prestige.

Searching for it there, there was another thing where the ratings for a Mad Men season premier on Sky got 72,000 viewers. There's more people in the UK watch TNA.

It wasn't really plugged (I don't think I saw a single advert for it, I only knew about it because I post on a comedy forum) and obviously Sky's On Demand service is subscription-only so there probably wouldn't be that big a jump. I would imagine the number of people who watched it illegally would probably be higher than for most shows though, given that comedy fans tend to be quite nerdy and tech-savvy. Plus unlike other Sky shows it is unlikely to travel well, because it's about such a specific type of British character it wouldn't cross over to the States the way Sky's dramas might.

I guess so. I saw it on an advert during Sky Sports News when I was at the gym, but I did completely forget about it until someone at work came downstairs and mentioned it.

I hope it doesn't deter them from making more. Some of the jokes in the recent Partridge stuff has been on a par if not better than the second season of IAP.

I was worried that this might just be a shitty tie-in unlike the previous autobiography, but these promotional bits are just as good as that so far.
