Sean, Merchant is sort of an in-between man, not playing the straight man the way Gervais does, but not being the joker that Pilkington is either. He comes up with witty comments every now and then. Gervais doesn't even try, really.

Todays episode is class - Karl trying to explain how thing would be if we were to move to another planet and the time would change. Also about a dishwasher on Mars??? Also him having a fight when he was 7, Ricky describes it as a scene from "Lock Stock...". Brilliant, i think i might cry next week after the last one.
P.S The R&J thing was just like an advert for the podcast but still funny.
The story when he was 7 was fantastic, the other kid calling him "out of order"...rest of it wasn't good though. Monkey News is cack now, to be honest. They referred to the greatest Pilkington moment ever though, about the doppelganger woman with the bicycle. Any long-time XFM listeners will know what I'm on about, possibly the greatest story ever told.
That train to plymouth is fucking shit. Dunno if you're going from Paddington like I do but you go from there to Exeter in like 3 hours then Exeter to Plymouth takes another hour even though it takes about half that to drive. I have no idea why either.I missed that

I just listened to all 11 today, while at work. I have come to the conclusion the first is my favourite. Best Monkey news (the one going up into space), quality ideas (having the 78 year old woman have a kid), and best stories ("about 3000 dead flies... condom stuck on the top"). It really is fantastic.
I think the best one was the first Karl's Diary one.

I think the most I laughed was when Gervais was laughing so hard you couldn't even hear him when Merchant was recounting Karl's tale of the pool cue/lemon cake incident. "Cock juice".
