Should be an exciting finish. Some stellar debates.
Votes are in! Great work by everyone here.
Great job, Defrost. When you first brought up Vince, I was actually kind of worried. I felt like getting into how the two Vince's would get along would potentially be a bit irrelevant and wondered if I didn't spend enough time building of Kurt more. I also thought you had a great point about this being the beginning of Angle's injuries and eventual breakdown.
Also, I had to lay the authority figure line a bit thick purely for the sake of argument. I know some people still love it ;)
Next Round:
March 29:
Kdestiny vs. Simon
King Diamond. Psycho
April 5
Mikey Jones vs. mth
Rusty Shackleford vs. winner of the 2nd chance vote
Now that all round 1 debates are concluded, we will have a second chance vote. @Mr_Nobody, @Badger, @virms, @Jarrod1983-Please pm bbf and myself your first and second choices for the posters who were defeated in Round 1 (Nash, Donald, Defrost, 3 pups, pG, Knee) as having had the best performance. If you have the opportunity to do it before Wednesay, that would also be great.
Diamond won, it’s Knee you mean.
But yeah I’ll give it a mull over and get back to you later in the day.
Shouldn't PG be in there?
Aye PG and Knee should be in there.
Nude pics for all who vote for me thanks
This is going to be pretty tough to decide as a lot of great losing efforts there. But judge we must!
Fuck you all.
Not playing this anymore that was my absolute best effort and I lose to a woman who has nothing without the Russian lesbian song.
PG deserves to be there way more than I do - we both picked Eddie and he did a much better job. And I'd vote for Donald but only if he promises NOT to send me nude pics of himself.
I made a post about his death in this thread after mths last post but edited it quickly it as it was essentially a 3rd post in a different thread.
No really it was my best effort.
Peter, do me a favor. Be proud of yourself. You did awesome.
Absolutely Peter that was your best effort and it was very very close. Understandably a very bitter pill to swallow but I do hope you change your mind about not taking part again.
Both people who picked Eddie relied too much on hoping we'd have some bleeding heart judges but nope, nobody cared that Eddie could possibly be alive had they put him in the modern era. Think of all the medical advancements?
You know what nobody argued? Without Eddie taking a bullet for the business, there'd be no Wellness. Which means that Chris Benoit would still be alive.
I know tone is impossible on a forum but Im not actually angry
Disappointed for sure but MTH ain't no jabroni.
Or if a person took that into account that thier opponent would being up Eddie's heart issues and said then and there this is fantasy booking and Eddie's heart is fine. Better?
I believe king diamond took this approach with hbk and his ego. Addressing it knowing his opponent would.
Yeah you need to try and anticipate, cut them off at the pass.
I remember @Morrison and I had a debate a few years ago about who should win the Royal Rumble. He went first made his choice in Reigns but also listed other good possibilities smartly about how they wouldn’t work so I was kinda fucked before I started. Still gave it a go and got a few votes but yeah he anticipated.
3 of the people who won were first posters.
First opportunity to frame the debate, and first opportunity to rebut. You should have your opponent tied up in a pretzel of points that he has to fend off.
My choices are in.
I briefly entertained the idea of picking Chris Benoit at first...
Yeah, i just thought it would get a response like what my second post was and give my opponent too much potential ammo, seemed too risky. My other thought was Molly Holly but then I looked into when/why she left and figured that was probably going to happen either way.
I don't think many could have done it but mth is certainly one who could.
Yeah, i was a little leery with the timeframe. Not entirely sure when Benoit started to unravel and when the real damage had been done.
That ‘01 Rumble ladder match Benoit had with Jericho. There was a spot where Benoit tried to tope Jericho through the ropes then ate a fucking chairshot to the cranium. Heat of the moment seemed awesome but looking back....very uncomfortable watching when taking into account what happened after.
I actually looked out the whole thread where you were the victor and had to defend myself votes for mentioning your choice in my first post which some took as a rebuttal (there was a difference!). “Don’t agree but will save for my next post” I thought was fair. That was mental!
Polls in debates are bad ideas. Just ask Got Dave? then Cewsh on main page polls.
Yeah that match was nuts and I probably watched that one particular spot over and over. I grew up loving the Hart family and other wrestlers closely associated with them. When they all got older I had to find a new crop of Canadian wrestlers and Jericho and Benoit were top on my list, right there with Edge and Christian. Point is I watched the hell out of that ladder match.
It's a hard thing to look at and I think everyone has their own theories.
I think the damage was a gradual thing and not one or two shots did it. Hard ass chair shots. Using his body to get make a name for himself in ECW, WCW and then WWE. Flying headbutt every night even after his neck surgery.
Unraveling started when Eddie died. No doubt there for me. Just like the steady deterioration of his brain with hard shots every night, every day he spent without Eddie after his death started the deterioration of his soul. Mind and soul both lost, he unfortunatley became dark and troubled.
Yeah, i agree with that, as well, which is why I would have claimed him from prior to Eddie's death so I could at least dodge that bullet. Brain might've already been scrambled by then but at least with today's policies and medical advances, etc., maybe those issues could have been addressed/helped...:dunno:
Benoit was one of my favourite guys going all the way back to WCW. He was always chasing a singles/tag title title and his series with Booker T is high up there with one of my favourite WCW feuds. I even appreciated him giving the middle finger to WCW and leaving for WWE when they finally got their asses round to giving him the title. Was so happy for him when he won the big one at Mania and even HHH putting him over in the fall which was rarer back in those "I am the gaaaammmmeee-uhhhhh!"
Really sad and got to me to hear of what he became.
Never liked benoit, just boring. But then again I like Omos so what the fuck do I know
I feel like Donald is actually Vince from the 1980s
It's great! I feel like it was just as good as Cactus/Orton on that show. Watch the Mania one first, I remember them doing some spots that were a continuation from things done at Mania. It really was like the 2nd piece of Benoit being crowned champion and couldn't have been planned out any better with HHH tapping in MSG and then Shawn in Canada.
Then they dropped the ball, in my opinion, having Benoit defend against Kane next at Bad Blood, taking a back seat to the HHH/HBK HIAC. Kane won a battle royal for a shot and I think they should have given Jericho that spot. Let Benoit get another hard hitting victory after another 30 minute classic. Maybe I'd feel different watching Benoit/Kane again but I don't remember it being super good.
From what I remember it was okay but nothing special. Angle and Kane had much better chemistry I think.
Yeah their Wrestlemania match was surprisingly good. I remember them just getting put together because there wasn't really anyone left it seemed but killed it from what I remember.

Peter Griffin is awarded a second chance. He will face Rusty Shackleford in Round 2.
So just to clarify. This is someone who should've won the WWE or World Heavyweight title before WM22? Or did you mean Universal?
I take it's basically no one who has ever won a world title in WWE, be it the Universal, WWE, World Heavyweight, etc
Nest I get another shot. Cheers.
This is probably the worst topic I could get this year
I have a ready made answer if we were talking AEW.
Lads I might be being thick but I don't understand the wording of our topic at all, even with the clarification above!
If you're both off, I likely worded it porrly
Basically pick any male affiliated with WWE, who has of March 29, 2021 has never won the World Heavyweight or Universal Title.
Argue why they would be a good choice to win their first major championship this year. Argue why selection is superior and your opponent's is poopy.
Oh, I was very confused by the WM22 bit in there.
So I could choose someone currently on the roster?
I'm not looking for an AEW signee or anything. Like don't choose Kenny Omega.
But if it was someone with a Legends status or something out there, I think that still fits the spirit of the question.
Also fixed wording.
@Kneeneighbor @Mazer @BBF
Would you all be fine with me getting like a 12 hour extension? I got my first vaccine today and my arm is feeling like shit, and I'm gonna be doing a lot of homework tonight. I'll try to get a post out before I go to sleep, but I can't guarantee it's going to happen.
You're good
What a strange topic.
It read poorly. I should have just said over the next year when I first typed it, and had to clarify in here. I put WM22 vs WM2022.
Which was very confusing
Not my best work there
This is gonna be interesting.
Good start all around on both topics.
Good show, Diamond. Glad we were able to hammer that one out quick in the end. May the best man win!
Depending on when kdestiny gets his third round in, could I get an extension? Hopefully I won't need it, but I'm busy during the day tomorrow and then out in the evening so might struggle to set aside time to get it in.
You're good.
For all- since this takes the winner multiple matches/weeks to get through, an extension here and there is reasonable.
The 24 hour proviso is mostly to keep these within the timeframe of a week, and to set a baseline expectation. That said, if someone were to be egregious or miss repeatedly without notice (and sometimes life could make that something that happens), we want to have given fair notice that the tie could be rolled up.
I do appreciate the heads up, as it lets us and the opponent plans.
When's my tie bitches?
Just don’t do RockOverBoston did one final where he took about two weeks to get his final post up lol.
Coming on Monday.
But be warned.
I hear Rusty Shackleford has used his first round bye to go into deep training. He's secluded himself in a Siberian farmhouse, with only his KGB handlers and a laptop that has blocked all sites other than Rajah and the WWE Network,
He's been practicing debating while running through heavy snow drifts and is communicating to the outside world only via poprock montages.
He was last seen at the top of a mountain, arms raised, yelling "GRIFFFIIINNN! GRIIFFFIIINN!"
For once Scotland are not the underdogs! :p
Love the confidence Peter, looking forward to this one!
Great April fools day joke Griffin!
