John Carew has never won the Champions League, the FA Cup or the League Cup, but has lost in the final of all three.
Because he's shit.
Shit enough to play in three major finals.
It's not actually that unbelievable a stat, but I thought it was interesting and didn't think anyone would get it if I put it in the quiz thread.
I would've got it cos I follow zonal marking on twitter too. :D
Is he the only player to do that then?
Guess so.
Another interesting one, if a little contrived...if George Best had played for as long as Giggs, he'd have still been there when Ferguson took over at United :D
I know it's not so unbelievable anymore because it's Messi but...he's just scored in a 19th consecutive game in La Liga, meaning he's scored against every single team in the division in consecutive games.
The search to find ever more obscure Messi records continues.
That's hardly obscure.
Score a goal against every team with rabona overhead kicks.
It's obscure because no one has ever done it.
It's not particularly contrived like some of the ones you hear. Ooh Messi is the first player ever to score 20 goals in the period between Valentines Day and Good Friday.
Jesus, that IS impressive.
It also sets a new record for consecutive goals doesn't it?
Yeah but he's continuously just beating his own record now. The previous record was 11 games or something.
This isn't unbelievable, just quite nice.
Xavi completed the game against PSG with a 100% pass success rate, which has lead to PG's favourite website creating a graphic of all players who have done it previously and how many passes they achieved.

This is straight from the bbc live text who are probably quoting opta but
"Gabriel Agbonlahor's goal means he is now Aston Villa's leading scorer in the Premier League with 61 - ahead of Dwight Yorke (60), Dion Dublin (48), Juan Pablo Angel (44) and Gareth Barry (41)."
Am I way off or does it sound mental that a side who have been premier league ever presents have basically never had a properly prolific striker?
Everton's is also 60 in Duncan Ferguson

There's probably a better, less overly "clicky" list than that somewhere.
Not a stat, and not exactly 'unbelievable' (and half of you have probably already heard this on The Football Ramble, but fuck you) but a lovely little coincidence.
The hospital David Beckham was born at is called Whipps Cross :D
Apparently all 91 clubs, aside from Arsenal, have changed managers since Arsene Wenger last won a trophy.
What no way I don't believe it no chance
There may be something to that, Cloughie is the championships longest serving manager at four and a half years so going by that, the rest of the football league isn't that much of a stretch.
Ssshsgahahashhaaa
Jesus
If you take Blackburn Rovers 1994/95 vs Arsenal FC 2005/06 to present day. Blackburn have won more trophies.
Courtesy of Sid Lowe's La Liga round-up today...
Less money was spent by Spanish clubs in the January transfer window than QPR spent on Chris Samba.
 Brilliant
Since Arsenal last won a trophy, Leo Messi has turned professional & won 78 individual trophies/awards, including 4 consecutive Ballon d'Ors.
Messi must have had his debut before May 2005.
...Less than a year after his start, Frank Rijkaard gave him his league debut against RCD Espanyol on 16 October 2004 (at 17 years and 114 days)
Messi and Ronaldo have scored over 85% of the total goals in La Liga over the past three seasons.
EDIT: Beat me to it.
That's incredible, but also somewhat sad.
Unbelievable because it's false...
Total goals in La Liga over the last three seasons (2013-14, 2012-13 and 2011-12): 2441
Goals scored by Messi and Ronaldo in that time: 195
Percentage scored by Messi and Ronaldo: 8.0%
Looking at the last three full seasons it's 7.8%.
And in those last three full seasons they've only scored 38% of Barcelona and Real's La Liga goals. Well, that's obviously "only" compared to 85%, otherwise it's pretty damn impressive.
alskjhakgshgkaghlkgslhalghsa
well played, Simon.
Oh look, if it isn't Dave Killjoy with the facts to ruin everything.
More chance of it being 85% of hattricks I would think
Think they scored 35 in the league so unless there's only been 6 other hattricks that's maybe not right
Just a bit of fun
You went to the bother of checking that Messi and Ronaldo weren't scoring about 900 goals between them each season for three years...and I'm the fool
aahahah fair play.
Also because of Dave's stat shenanigans Hurley has got away Scot-free with seemingly actually believing it. Lucky boy.
:wtf:
It was sad that you thought it was true Simon. It was halloween, not april fools.
Haha, you clown Simon. Look at him having his statistic proven wrong and coming out on the attack. It was all a joke lads! Good one Simon. Silly old Simon.
Someone needs to rename this thread 'Genuinely Do Not Believe These Stats'.
Still, Ronaldo and Messi scoring 8% of all La Liga goals is quite a good stat, I reckon.
West Ham have the most clean sheets in the league this season
Luis Suarez has been banned for 34 games since 2010, without ever getting a red card
Wow...imagine what would happen if he did get a red!
From BBC:
Did you know?
Joel Campbell bought 100 packets of World Cup stickers trying to find one of himself. None of the 500 was of him.
Unbelievable because you usually always get the conceived "unknowns" :panic:
I saw at the weekend that Brazil have not lost a competitive game in Brazil since 1975!!
I like this one:
Quote:
Cristiano, Bale and Rodríguez cost Real Madrid around €265M: more than Ajax have spent on transfers since their founding in 1900 (€232M).
Calum Chambers is suspended tomorrow having been booked in all five league games played so far this was on. He went through the whole of last year without a yellow card
Coventry City have not conceded a goal to a team with the letter C in their name since 1993.
SURELY NOT
Ronaldo averages a La Liga hattrick every 7.77 games.
Duncan Ferguson was sent off nine times in his career. All nine of the opponents he was sent off against were black, and not one was British.
Nice stat from Barney Ronay in the Guardian today from his review of the Liverpool vs Real Madrid match.
Quote:
Ronaldo has taken more shots at goal this season than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues. Second on the list is Balotelli. Ronaldo has 15 league goals. Balotelli has none.
Stolen from Sunday Supplement. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 20 times since Aston Villa last scored.
Roberto Soldado has had 400 billion shots since his last goal from open play.
Tottenham Hotspur are statistically absolutely fucking shit at football.
Not sure where he got it from but Alan Pardew cited some stat report saying Jagielka is the quickest player in the league.
Yeah it's this:

Various different ways of measuring players' speed of course.
There is statistically no chance of Villa winning this game, despite being one up and Spurs looking like clowns.
Apparently Villa have cancelled thier goal of the month competition in October.
Is that not a completely believable stat on the basis that they didn't score any goals?
Yeah it'd be more unbelievable if they didn't cancel it.
Yeah Slare, you prick.
Wahey.
Sergio Ramos scored his 50th goal for Real Madrid tonight, that's the same amount of goals as Iniesta has for Barcelona, but he did it in 100 fewer games.
Wayne Rooney has won the title five times with United, but never been top scorer in one of their title-winning seasons.
This is UN-believable stats Simon.
Sorry I meant never been United's top scorer. I think that's pretty surprising for the (theoretical) star striker not to have been top scorer at the title winners in any of their victories.
I don't even think that is particularly unbelievable.
:dunno: I thought it was pretty interesting, in that it shows that Rooney has been a consistently good goalscorer without having any real spikes of relentless scoring. Considering he's on course to become at least second top Premier League scorer of all time (displacing Andy Cole, who actually holds the same record as Rooney of never being top scorer at a club in a title-winning season), I would have expected him to be manage it at some point.
"Manchester United have scored with their only effort so far; they scored both of their shots on target at Southampton and had one shot on target and Arsenal - and won 2-1."
Clinical finishing.
Pepe is the only first choice centre back in La Liga yet to pick up a booking this season and he's only committed 5 five fouls total.
Yes Real Madrid have been pissing all over everyone, but it's Pepe!
That is mad.
And they were awful on Friday. Even Ronaldo was awful and he scored twice.
AFC Bournemouth have scored more goals in Birmingham this season than Aston Villa.
Alf was the youngest qualified referee in Essex
Parma currently have 89 players out on loan.
Lambert's sacking means there is now no Scottish manager in the PL for the first time since the opening season.
Nar, there was at least one in the opening season.
First time ever, yes...
