Atty made some pretty valid points about there being a use for this thread, so we're going to start from scratch with a whole new one.

This thread is for rambling discussion about WRESTLING. I'm sure it will inadvertently go off topic now and again, but this is NOT the VIP thread. Please keep that in mind. The point of this thread is for wrestling discussion. There are multiple forums for other conversations. You should use them.

So yeah, Wrestlmania is around the corner. Talk about that or something.

I like it when WWE gets new authority figures that have no business being in power coming in and trying to make all kinds of changes and be taken seriously. It always provides a lot of entertainment, especially when they know absolutely nothing about what they're trying to be in charge of.

Mike Adamle was brilliant. I think Brad Maddox could be a bit like him, but 100 times more cooler.

Adamle was actually brilliant for that very reason. He had no business there and that's a simple way to get heat. Like when a boss promotes his son to a position not based on merits alone. Makes you hate the chap. Worked well with Stephanie to get heat in 2000.

I've been thinking about what Bendis did with New Avengers, he put Spiderman and Wolverine onto the Avengers and it caused a lot of controversy amongst the writers, and then the general public as Spidey had never been a team guy, and Wolverine was an X-guy... but Bendis' response was along the lines of that the best of the best (and Hawkman) were in the Justice League, and the Avengers have just gone from strength to strength ever since.

I think there's merit in creating a stables with the greatest heels and the greatest 'faces. I'm not thinking of a re-hash of old stables, but rather a slow burn that brings factions together. Perhaps a bunch of heels (Punk, Lesnar, Cesaro, Henry, Barrett) who are being DQ'd non-stop for their heelish tactics, so Punk rounds them all up and together they decide to bully their way into getting some rules changed.

Then you get a bunch of smooth talking, charismatic show-ponies to take them on. The likes of HHH, Ryback, Sheamus, Daniel Bryan, Chris Jericho. They don't all have to instantly like one another, but there could be a tragedy that goes down that unites them all (the heels prey on a universally loved female like Garcia, or on a well loved veteran like Lawler or Flair) and find themselves working together as a team.

It would create great moments for PPV's like Survivor Series, the Royal Rumble & Elimination Chamber and also could lead to a Main Event match at a Wrestlemania.

I think if WWE is aiming it's marketing at a younger audience, then as a younger audience the idea of a Power Rangers-esque team would greatly appeal to 7-8 year old me.

Rosenberg himself said that Cena's the consummate company man. Had my hopes up. I was just in DC and saw ads everywhere too.

I saw ads and advance reviews and stuff and it made me assume I guess.

Ended up watching Mania. When did Lawler get that bad? I know he has been awful for a while, but tonight he was at the Teacher level of awfulness. That is the only thing on the show that made me feel any emotion good or bad on the show.

He was very off tonight. Easily the worst I ever heard him.

So was Cole, although he was trying. Yet at the same time he was mixing up wrestlers' names and miscalling moves and submissions like nobody's business. Cena had Rock in a crossface and he called it the STF.

Lawler no longer calls wrestling matches, he reacts to them as though he is a fan. "AHHH!" "OH NO!" "THAT MUST HURT!" and the like are all you hear from him. Very reactionary and not helpful at all. I'm glad the man is in good health now and is able to do what he loves, but his time has been up for a while. I actually think he'd be really good in an agent role but he seems to have no desire to work any days but Monday and one Sunday a month. Which I think is part of the problem, he's no longer all that invested in the product.

They were all horrible last night. JBL was even off. I can't remember who said it but one of them said Cena had a rough 2012 in his career and professional life. Thats the same damn thing!

The only commentary I heard was the pre pre-show stuff with Dusty, Kofi, JR, and and whoever else.

That group did a post-show too. It was my favorite non-Punk/Taker thing out of the show. I don't mean that in the snarky way—they were actually very good, pointed out things that weren't mentioned during the show (Punk wearing Taker's old purple and grey colors) and actually did analysis. I'd like them to do that with all big shows.

JBL said this was the best version of Cena before the fight despite the build up being how cena has had a shit year and has been at his worst.

But that's only part of it, the build up also featured him turning it around with a Rumble win and finally beating CM Punk, making him ready for redemption. Find something else to nitpick.

I'm not but the way the story was told then they should have been keeping the Cena is back to his best until after he had beaten The Rock considering the whole feud was built on that aspect.

The obvious flaw was that Cena came off like a desperate whiny douche in the build-up.

Apparently the plan is to do a similar set up for all of the PPVs going forward. I like the idea but I'm not sure how many people actually watch it.

I don't see Kofi being there everytime but he did a great job. As long as JR is there I am in though. Could be a good job for Bruno if he was interested in keeping things going with the WWE.
