In fairness, I'm not sure most people woke up today expecting for the AEW thread to become Dogma/Pro-Wrestling Fan Fiction.......
But they should have.
Was there a storyline for the NJPW talent showing up, or was it just "hey let's just have talent from two promotions fight each other for no reason"?
A wizard summoned them

Is this how Jericho reinvents himself now? Just giving himself stupid nicknames?
breaking up the acclaimed and the ass boys so soon would be a bad call
Ethan Page has softened up some. Looking like All-Eatin’ Ethan Page
I’m sure the winner of the Royal Rampage will have a good match with Moxley, but it doesn’t really interest me based on who it ultimately is.
Why are you not interested in that person. It interests me more than a lot of options out there for a random title match.
I really doubt Jon Moxley will lose the title. The big money match is Jon Moxley vs. CM Punk.
Imagine Roman Reigns wrestling T-Bar in a random WWE title match. That's what we're going to get. It's going to be some dude who hasn't really done anything of worth that we'll applaud the match quality and then go back to wondering what the point was lol.
Have we heard what CM Punk's injury was and how long he's going to be out?
I'm just curious if he's going to be back before the end of the year. I will say this, if Danielson isn't available then Moxley is the best choice for this whole interim thing. Especially if we have to wait 3-4 more months.
I don't mind random title matches where someone won a battle royal or something else to earn it even if said person is not a main event player per say. You can get some good matches out of it and you get to see your champ wrestle as opposed to just coming out and cutting promos and waiting for the next big title defense. It also depends on the person. T-Bar wrestling Roman yeah I could care less about that. Don't want to see that. I read the spoiler and yeah I am fine with this particular person wrestling Moxley. It won't go anywhere and that is fine. It should be a good match and I would like to see it.
Overall I am fine with the random match. Yeah there would be some people that I would not be okay with. Hell I said I wouldn't like T-Bar to win something like this and get a shot at Roman going off your WWE example. There are plenty of people in AEW that I would not want to see wrestle Moxley in a random title match. I am fine with this particular person getting a random match though.
that match doesn't do anything for me, but I'm ok with the potential aftermath.
I saw clips of the Blood and Guts match, man I didn't like blood back in the day, still don't like it today. I'll get my blood fix from horror movies where I know it's fake.
I am not a big fan of blood and at times some of this stuff is a bit much for me but overall I really enjoyed the match.
@MTR lol Jesus Christ
It's like some of you are taking turns on being the AEW apologist so to speak. Someone says they don't like something and MTR is in here with "Well, I don't like blood either but this match was really good!" The fuck....FYI Tony Khan isn't going to swoop in and pay your mortgage and he has enough bots to praise his company online.
How many Blood and Guts matches have we had, 2 so far? They've both fuckin sucked. It's a weak attempt at trying to do War Games meets Cage of Death CZW v. ROH.
It's matches like this that make me laugh at the people who will talk about how bad the WWE is or how bad TNA is and then you see this shit and yeah....But I'm sure we'll hear some kind of weirdo response from the apologists.
So I can't enjoy a really good match that you hate because honestly you seem to hate everything AEW and think we are all crazy for enjoying AEW and really liking stuff. I don't care for a ton of blood. I don't watch slasher movies and things like that because I don't care for the gore and blood. I don't like deathmatches because too much blood. That being said I can still enjoy and appreciate a really good match even if there was more blood than I care for. There are times and places for blood in wrestling and I can appreaciate that. I have said that AEW goes too far at times and WWE went the other extreme by never doing blood anymore. For fuck sakes I swear I don't understand why you in even in this thread. You shit on just about everything and shit on most of what a lot of us like and then call us AEW apologists. Fucking tiresome. I enjoy the hell out of AEW and I enjoy the hell out of WWE believe it or not. I enjoy AEW more than I do WWE at the moment and there are things I don't like about both but I don't hate either. Times like this I question why I take you off ignore.
There's your mistake right there!
I thought Blood & Guts was mostly great but I felt it did lose its way towards the end. As others have pointed out, it began to drag and the ending section on top of the cage felt a bit off (although the finish and aftermath were great in developing Eddie/Claudio). Santana's injury/Kingston apparently forgetting to bring a blade with him when he climbed the cage probably contributed but so did the odd decision to show nothing from the ring for the last 10 minutes. For most of the 46 minutes the crowd was really loud which is quite something. We got a bunch of ridiculously violent spots and amazing visuals. Angelo Parker hanging from the scaffolding like a piece of meat was something else. Tables, chairs, barbed wire, tacks, broken glass, skewers, rubbing alcohol. I was a bit surprised there wasn't any fire involved after the recent fireball incidents. All in all, the match lived up to its name and the 12 of them delivered a memorable, brutal spectacle. I really don't need to see any more blood in AEW for a good couple of months though.
Yeah same but I am sure someone will bleed next week.
It's always a weird flex to me when grown men in their 30's, 40's, even 50's, say these things lol.
I'm sorry that in this thread you only want positivity. I'm sorry that when someone says something slightly negative about AEW, there are people who have to go "Yeah I don't like that sometimes but this time, in AEW, it was good" It's corny. Put me on ignore, like that's going to change anything.
Been out of town so will catch up on this.
From last week though, Regal with the best and most British insult calling Jericho a troutslapper.
Regal and Jericho on commentary = gold
Love Regal on commentary and him and Jericho play off each other well. Jericho can be really good or not good at all on commentary. he doesn't seem to play off Excalibur and Taz as well on Rampage at times.
Regal is really fun on commentary. Although I'm still worried about Claudio getting lost back in the shuffle...still putting him BCC just makes me love them more. Really, they have 3 of my personal absolute favorites now.
I had to buy the BCC shirt, even though I find it kind of cringey.
Sometimes I BCC people on work emails
The BCC does not support BCCing.
Put them in the cc or don't. There is no BCC
I worry a little less about Claudio being lost in the shuffle since he is part of the BCC.
I think the performers, as ND stated earlier, make some money based on WWE, but I think they still get lost in the shuffle a lot. Maybe, I'm just defining "lost in the shuffle" differently. It is a big shuffle. Tony has combined 2 decks into one hand, and that's 104 cards to shuffle. And you know he's not getting an automatic card dealer
I guess the distinction is, and I'm probably just stating what people know in a different way is, we'll see a lot of Claudio. He's in a great stable with the champ. Hopefully BD is back soon. Claudio will not lose as many tv matches, and will definitely get wins on Dark. Question is will it actually lead to wins and advancement. Because I'm not sure a feud with Eddie Kingston and a tag team with Wheeler may not be "ahead" of where he was in WWE.
But I'm not going to overcomplain with Claudio being on tv. Fingers crossed for that guy,
Yeah I mean you can win all day but do the wins matter is the question. The idea that quantity=quality is an idea I don't support at all. It's what hurt WCW, it's what hurt the WWE and WWE still imo have too many wrestlers especially when you look at NXT 2.0, Level Up, and the people who are still in the PC.
Claudio is a guy who always delivers in the ring. He's 41 so I doubt he's on the verge of a World title run especially in AEW or really any type of major run. He'll do his thing with Kingston and go back to being #4 in BCC. Our only hope is that he turns heel and wins the Pure title.
yeah I am sure we are all defining lost in the shuffle differently. I said I am less worried about Claudio but we shall see how things go. Sounds like he may have been headed to ROH before the Danielson injury. I hope they can get regular TV for ROH so they can put some of the people getting less tv time over there.
I'm more intrigued to see who's gonna jump ship to wwe next. Too many from wwe to aew. It would be wild to see moxley or Jericho or omega to jump ship
Why the fuck would Moxley jump?
I’d prefer nobody jump cuz WWE is unwatchable caca now.
I did, and I’m happy for her. I just wish she didn’t have to lose a thousand times to get to this point. She wins the briefcase and then cashes in, cool. Would have been cooler if she won the title by overcoming the odds rather than taking advantage of a hobbled champion.
I think her losing a lot has kinda been the point.
While an epic match would have been nice, the cash-in was still nice and Ronda sold it perfectly “Shit!” Not gonna quibble too much about the circumstances or length of time. She’s there and that’s all that matters to me.
You see Sheamus on Smackdown, and think "Man I really wish he was still teaming with Cesaro", and then you see Cesaro on Dynamite and you think "Man, I really wish he was still teaming with Sheamus".
Would he come back as Jon Moxley or Dean Ambrose?
Good question. I imagine he would come back as Dean Ambrose but you never know. I was trying to think of wrestlers who returned under a different name and they're very few and far between. For example, Nash and Hall. They didn't come back as Diesel and Razor BUTTTT that was probably more due to the fact it was the nWo showing up. Maybe if they were on their own, but nWo probably made Nash and Hall more of a household name than Diesel/Razor.
Raven is another as he didn't return as Johnny Polo, but prior to Polo he wasn't Raven he was Scotty Flamingo.
Well as long as that idiot Justin Roberts doesn't follow him back. Seriously, him saying "Jeeeeeeeonnnnnn Moxley" is like nails on a blackboard.
2nd time ever watching AEW tonight. What happened to Keith Lee? Is his new gimmick eating his opponents after matches? Was he that big in NXT?
Keith Lee came in with big fan fare but now he's just there. Is it really any different than wwe?
Considering the fact that somewhere around half the wrestlers I've seen tonight were in the WWE the last time I watched Raw or Smackdown, no this is not really any different.
WARDLOW. Lovely job. Perfectly booked!
Heel Christian Cage is just fucking great. Man has been knocking this out the park and putting Edge's heel run to shame.
A lot of people on twitter loving Christians digs about Jeff, Wonder how many of those slaughtered wwe for using Jeff's issues :chin:
Same amount as those who complained WrestleManias were 5 hours long but fine with AEW PPVs going past midnight.
To be clear I'm not a fan of either company using stuff like that.
Huh?
I'll try to decipher that by replying with I gave you examples of other cash ins by people who probably deserved something better for their first World title win but it all worked out fine. Sometimes it helped tell a bigger story. You just like to complain about WWE while hating it so much. Pretending not to watch the product yet you have an opinion about every move they make lol.
Do their heel runs need to be compared?
Christian is a great heel...but the material he's using is boring. Oh wow he spoke on Luke Perry and Jeff Hardy, so edgy! Maybe that's what Edge needed to do. Throw shade on dead parents and drug addict wrestlers. He already did that stuff like 15 years ago but hey it's AEW!
When wrestlers go to this level it just shows they're trying way too hard. Like when MJF was slighting Pillman Jr's family. MJF was already money, didn't do him any favors and the feud has pretty much been a forgotten memory.
Everything "shocking" Christian has said was predictable and feels forced. Maybe I'm just too old and don't get worked by this kind of stuff anymore.
Easy heat. Shame he has to go that route as he's capable of much better.
He went 20 years as one of the best heels in wrestling without all that bullshit but it's the crowd he's playing to that requires it. I assume because Christian is at that hard to hate status due to his contributions that he/AEW feel that's the only way the fans will truly shit on him.
Problem is, this is such a smark ass audience Jungle Boy is still going to get a 50/50 response when they finally wrestle. Just like when MJF was shitting on Pillman JR half the crowd were cheering for MJF.
I've never been a fan of these type of storylines and methods of getting heat because it's not shocking, it's low brow and wreaks of desperation. If you don't have sympathy for Jack Perry having to be Jungle Boy and teaming up with Marko Stunt all those years then IDK what to tell you lol. It just makes you wonder how long were they sitting on the "you're dad is dead" approach.
I've got a feeling they're doing this so when Jeff Hardy makes his return he won't get booed. Christian, Luchaboreus, beating down Matt Hardy, Jungle Boy, then the Hardy's music hits and Jeff comes out dancing and then runs to the ring to save his brother and Jack Perry.
Don't know when Jeff will return, but they could have a series of Matt vs. Christian, Jungle Boy vs. Luchaboreus, and tag matches together until Jeff is ready.
Jeff will return like nothing happened. Seriously this guy is like Tammy Sytch.
Takeshita/Kingston was dope
I'm a big fan of Takeshita.
Same. Dude's definitely top tier.
Take shit ah!
Takeshita’s Castle. Every time he does a big move…
Schiavone: “And now for our ridiculous replay!”
New tag team champions in Keith Lee and Swerve. Not a fan whatsoever of the tag-team. Love both wrestlers, hate the team, feels literally like the booker said hey I just signed 2 black dudes that I have no clue what to do with, let's make them a tag-team! And the AEW tag title picture is pretty whack. I would've preferred the Young Bucks to just carry the titles for another 2-3 years and then lose their smile or something.
But at least Lee and Swerve have some gold. Shit the only time I ever saw Keith Lee prior to the WWE he was in some stupid generic tag-team in ROH, I never saw any of his other work until after he signed with WWE and seeing stuff he did with Riddle and others in PWG. IDK just feels like these 2 deserve better than being a thrown together tag-team winning the belts and not even pinning the champs. It would've been smarter to have the Bucks take the L, and then continue this mediocre feud Lee/Swerve have with Hobbs and Shaw.
Overall not a bad show just felt like filler with a bunch of dumb comedy bullshit heavily saturating it. 3/15
When they say AEW Dynamite Fyter Fest, is that like a PPV quality show on Dynamite, or is it just a name slapped on to bump a rating, like NXT Great American Bash?
Wardlow/OC had some enjoyable comedy shit to it like Wardlow playing along and ripping out the pockets. Wardlow still giving him respect with only one powerbomb as opposed to the symphony was a nice.
Jericho: “Painmaker!!!!….undefeated in AEW!” Though he’s only pulled it off once in AEW. I know they exaggerate but still funny.
Claudio/Hager was solid. Hope they can keep up Claudio’s momentum.
Triple or nothing main event was a banger!
If you are subscribed to NJPW World they just put a documentary about Forbidden Door up.
It means watching Chris Jericho in 2022 is a painful experience.
It would be funny if it actually didn't make sense.
That Barbed Wire match was an overbooked violent muddle yet still entertaining mess. Gotta laugh how Tay couldn’t unlock the padlock after the cage was lowered yet the JAS got out anyway. What was the point of padlocking it?
What a pop for Jungle Boy’s return and Luchasaurud switching sides yet again. Best current storyline yet and can’t wait for the eventual match!
Oh Tazz as well “Maybe Ruby switched keys!”
Incredible show. Kingston/Jericho was arguably the best barbed wire match I've ever seen in my life. That's covering about 30 barbed wire matches I've seen just in FMW alone. People thought Kingston losing was dumb, not me. He got the last laugh with that extreme bump Jericho took. I like that Jericho at 50 years old is willing to take these Terry Funk-like bumps.
Glad Darby didn't get his neck broken. Wicked powerbomb finish by Brody King. Dude has potential to be the next big thing in wrestling.
I'm having one issue with BCC: Are they tweeners? It seems like when they team up with each other they're fighting babyfaces a lot unless Best Friends turned heel and I forgot. Moxley proving he is without a shadow of a doubt the best wrestler in the business today. Carried the entire match.
This is very sad and it just shows how low the bar is not just for certain fans but wrestling in general when this storyline is considered the best going today. Better than Kingston/Jericho? I guess if that story is over which IDK seems like we have another 4-5 months of that ahead which I'm looking forward to no doubt about it.
Best In AEW right now not necessarily in the whole of the wrestling world.
As far as Eddie/Jericho goes, I wouldn’t mind another mad blow-off (what they can do after that, blood and guts, anarchy in the arena etc I’m not sure) but don’t want it to go on too long. It’s been great and extreme yeah but dragging it out again for months and months dunno about that.
I still think it's sad that it's one of the best in general. Christian's forced "shock and awe" comments bring it way down for me. It's a good storyline ruined by "your dad's dead" and "your son's a piece of shit!" Try hard from a guy who doesn't need to say that shit.
AEW likes to do super long feuds and at least this is entertaining. The long term storytelling they THINK is great usually sucks and drags on forever. But in this case I think we can get 1 more match and let Eddie get the dub.
I originally thought the same about Christian's promos.
But I'm going to play Devil's Advocate for a second.
This is the AEW crowd. It would be hard for him to get genuine blows. But by taking the cheap road, which we as "smart" fans don't like, he turns us off a bit but also gets the boos from the reactionary people.
In WWE, he wouldn't need to do this. Most people I wouldn't give much planning credit to, but Christian is an exception. Used to enjoy his pod, and he's definitely thought things through, even if it doesn't always hit. There could be some desire to actually turn off a fanbase that has kept "heels" as tweeners.
Doesn't mean I think they're "good".
But it could be a similar tactic to Mick Foley's all rest-hold matches in ECW.
The weird part about the AEW crowd, which includes myself, is that you would think this kind of stuff would be met with silence. That we are smart, that we can see beyond the try hard approach to get booed. The other part is that smart wrestling crowds including WWE as I feel most of their audience are smart fans as well, we tend to play along to fit the obvious narrative they're going with.
Very true. Apples and oranges in terms of what we're talking about BUT I get what you're saying. Do something "extreme" that will cause the audience that would cheer you regardless actually boo you.
Enjoyed the barbwire match. I didn't like the kind of botched stuff at the end with Sammy but can overlook it.
In defense of the guys getting out of the cage. It is a shark cage so more space between the bars. The two smaller guys got out which is fine and kept things moving while she figured out the key to get the other two out. Not the first time smaller guys have gotten out of the shark cage without it needing to be unlocked. Enzo did it in WWE and i am sure it has happened plenty of times before that.
Not sure why we needed a Anna Jay heel turn beyond to put her and Tay back together as friends.
Was wondering when Jungle Boy was coming back. Nice pop. Not surprised Luchasauraus went back to him. Kind of figured that is what they were going to do. Enjoying the hell out of Cage right now. This is going to continue to be a good storyline. I wouldn't say the best unless you say Kingston and Jericho are actually done and despite it being the last match it is not done in my view.
Overall entertaining show as always.
