A Look at the CZW Tag Team Title Tournament

June 12, 2010 was the date of CZW's "Lines In The Sand" event, a night which changed the landscape of CZW's tag team division for months to come. At the conclusion of the evening, after a successful title defense against Cult Fiction's Masada and Brain Damage, CZW World Tag Team Champions Drake Younger and Eddie Kingston, were assumedly atop the highly competitive tag team division in CZW. However, Eddie Kingston, upset with things in the Combat Zone, abruptly quit CZW and threw his World Tag Team title belt down to the floor, damaging it in the process. This left Drake Younger without a tag team partner and it left CZW without one half of its' tag team champions.
One month later on July 10th, the evening of CZW's "Home Sweet Home" event , CZW owner DJ Hyde made his decision on how to rectify the emerging World Tag Team Title situation after careful deliberation. He made two announcements which were sure to make the already competitive CZW tag team division even more cutthroat in nature. His first order of business was to unfortunately strip Drake Younger of his championship due to "The Psycho Shooter" not having a tag team partner to defend the championship with. Secondly, DJ Hyde announced a HUGE CZW World Tag Team Title tournament to take place throughout the course of the remainder of the year.
Within his announcement, DJ said that he had sent out invitations to some of the top tag teams in the nation and even all over the world to take place in this single-elimination 8 team tournament. DJ also announced the first two tag teams to enter the tournament, first the debuting OSIRIAN PORTAL of OPHIDIAN and AMASIS as well as the former and longest-reigning CZW World Tag Team champions in the illustrious history of the title, THE BEST AROUND of "Immaculate" TJ CANNON and "Picture Perfect" BRUCE MAXWELL. Both of these teams will be competing at CZW's "A Tangled Web 3" event on August 14th, when the tournament formally begins.
However, CZW is bringing some hotly contested tag team action to North Carolina as they debut in Lumberton with "Southern Violence" on Saturday, August 7th. The Robeson County Fairgrounds will see TWO Qualifying Matches on this evening of ultraviolence as DJ HYDE & GREG EXCELLENT will take on Rush Wrestling Enterprises' TEAM MACKTION and SAMI CALLIHAN & JOE GACY will represent the Switchblade Conspiracy against DANNY HAVOC & the Tournament of Death 9 winner SCOTTY VORTEKZ. The winners of these two matches will recieve entries into the main tournament which begins the very next week in South Philadelphia.
The tournament will begin at August's "A Tangled Web 3" event, continuing on through the remainder of the year, finally culminating at December's "CAGE OF DEATH XII" event. Both August's and September's events will have 2 first round matches a piece, with the winners of each match moving on to the semi-finals in October, with each vying for an opportunity to move on to December's "CAGE OF DEATH XII" event to fight for the CZW World Tag Team Titles.
The road towards tag team supremacy has already begun in the Combat Zone. Who will qualify in Lumberton, NC on August 7th? Which teams will fill out the remaining spots in the tournament? Will there be any shocking returns to the Combat Zone? Will there be more teams debuting along with The Osiran Portal over the course of the next few months? However, the most important question is: which team will be leaving The Arena in South Philadelphia after "CAGE OF DEATH XII" with the CZW World Tag Team Titles?

- Also among the highlights were two new qualifiers for the CZW World Tag Team Title Tournament. The first to qualify was Rush Wrestling Enterprise's TEAM MACKTION with their victory over DJ Hyde and Greg Excellent in the first of two qualifying matches. In the second, the SwitchBlade Conspiracy of Sami Callihan and Joe Gacy qualified with a brutal beating of Scotty Vortekz and Danny Havoc in a very intense matchup. The two teams will move on to compete in the Tournament, which begins at next Saturday's ''TANGLED WEB 3'' in South Philly at the Arena!

8/12 - CZW's Tangled Web 3 is this SATURDAY! New Match and more!
We are now less than 48 hours away from CZW’s huge return to South Philly for ‘TANGLED WEB 3!”, and late this afternoon, CZWrestling.com has learned of 3 new matches that have been signed to round out the lineup for this Saturday’s event! The first of the three new matchups comes in the fallout from this past Saturday’s “Southern Violence” event in North Carolina that saw NICK GAGE defeat Jon Moxley to become the new CZW World Heavyweight Champion. Prior to the NC event, Moxley had been signed to defend his gold (if still champion) on August 14th against Ego Fantastico in South Philly. After the title change, CZW officials met and determined that the match originally scheduled for “Tangled Web 3” will go on as planned, as JON MOXLEY will meet EGO FANTASTICO in a one-on-one non-title matchup with plenty of ramifications at stake. Which of these two title contenders can lay claim to the next rightful challenger to the throne? Who will make a statement in the increasingly competitive World Title division? We find out on Saturday…
The second match signed for this Saturday’s event will be another CZW Tag Team Tournament Opening Round contest, and has all the makings of a very competitive and hard hitting affair. Making their return to the tag team ranks, “The Blk Jeez” Sabian and military veteran JOKER, collectively known as PHILLY’s MOST WANTED will reunite as a team to take on the popular CZW Jr. Heavyweight Champion ADAM COLE, and his longtime friend and partner TYLER VERITAS with a ticket to the 2nd round on the line. There is plenty of bad blood between these two teams. Sabian and Adam Cole have been battling for the better part of 2010, and the bitter rivalry has seen the recent inclusion of their respective friends Joker, and Tyler Veritas, so it’s only appropriate all 4 meet in the same ring this Saturday at “Tangled Web 3!” to attempt to settle the score. Who will advance to the 2nd round of the Tag Title Tourney? We find out on Saturday!
In addition, CZWrestling.com has learned that the popular “OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS” match will return on Saturday at Tangled Web! As requested by you the CZW fans, owner DJ Hyde has decided to bring back the popular concept in hopes of finding the next young CZW Superstar. It's a packed house here in at The CZW Arena in South Philadelphia as CZW presents A TANGLED WEB 3!
Larry Legend opens the show by introducing the newest CZW Bombshell, MIA YIM!
1. "Opportunity Knocks" match between Joe Ettell and Eric Enders is disrupted after a minute by NEW CZW Champion Nick Gage!
Egotistico Fantastico comes out to confront Nick Gage for a title shot, and is inturrupted by former champion Jon Moxley... and we have an IMPROMPTU THREE WAY TITLE MATCH!!
2. CZW World Title: Jon Moxley defeats Egotistico Fantastico and Nick Gage in a three way match to regain the CZW World Title. Moxley pinned Ego after delivering a crushing lariat just seconds after Ego put Nick Gage through a contraption of chairs on the floor from the ring. The match was a wild encounter seeing a huge dive into the crowd by Ego and brawling all over the arena. Moxley is now a TWO TIME CZW World Heavyweight Champion!
3. CZW Wired Title: Drew Gulak defeats Ryan McBride to retain the CZW Wired Title. Gulak got the victory after a small package just seconds after Rodney Rush provided a distraction to Ryan McBride. McBride was near victory after hitting a big Frog Splash for a near fall when Rodney Rush got on the ring apron, distracting McBride. Once McBride turned around Gulak captured him in an inside cradle for the victory. After the match, Gulak celebrated his victory as if Rodney Rush had nothing to do with it.
4. Danny Havoc defeats tHURTeen with a Death Valley Driver in a quick, action packed match which saw many high impact moves. The Suicide Kings' Danny Havoc was too much for Cult Fiction's tHURTeen however, coming back successfully from injury!
Maven Bentley announces an AERIAL ASSAULT LADDER MATCH for next month's Chris Cash Memorial Show on FRIDAY September 10th. Alex Colon inturrupts and says he wants in... however Maven isn't so sure. However, he does announce FACADE, CHUCK TAYLOR, and RICOCHET!
5. First Round of the CZW World Tag Team Title Tournament: The Osirian Portal defeat The Best Around in an exciting back and forth contest after a PyramidPlex & Osirian Sacramen combination on TJ Cannon. The Best Around found themselves close to victory a number of times, but the debuting Osirian Portal proved to be too much for The Best Around and came out with the victory.
6. Ruckus defeated A.R. Fox with the Bank Roll in an exciting high flying match up. A.R. Fox looked very impressive in defeat and both men pulled out many innovative moves to try and pull out the win. After the match, Ruckus shook the hand of A.R. Fox in a display of respect.
7. First Round of the CZW World Tag Team Title Tournament: Philly's Most Wanted defeated Adam Cole & Tyler Veritas in very hard hitting match. Philly's Most Wanted utilized a DOUBLE STOMP/JOKER DRIVER combination to pin Tyler Veritas. Joker looked very impressive in his comeback to CZW and dominated the ring at times. Toward the end of the match, both teams got a number of near falls and used a variety of combination moves on each other.
Intermission
8. Devon Moore defeats Drake Younger in a great back and forth contest which saw many big moves. Devon Moore was able to pick up the victory by unleashing a sickening Yakuza Kick to the jaw of Drake Younger. Before the match, Devon Moore got on the microphone and said he was done being a "scumbag" and was done being "lazy" essentially turning over a new leaf. Throughout the match, Devon Moore showed exactly what he meant by that by unloading a myriad of high flying, high impact moves from his arsenal, most of which we haven't seen from him in months!
9. TaiPei Fists v. Thumbtack Kick Pads; Cult Fiction v. Suicide Kings: Scotty Vortekz pinned Brain Damage after a thumbtack kick pad assisted knee drop to the face. He was able to keep Brain Damage down just long enough for the three count as Damage was just a second too late kicking out of the pin. This was an absolutely gruesome match up which saw both wrestlers use their weapons of choice. Both men found innovative ways to use either fists covered in shards of broken glass or kickpads covered in thumbtacks. It was a very hard hitting match and both men felt the effects, both getting busted open in the process. Chairs were destroyed, blood was spilled... but after the match... the lights went out... and BILLY GRAM made his return to CZW proclaiming his control over Cult Fiction, even SLAPPING BRAIN DAMAGE IN THE FACE!
We are now setting up for the Tangled Web match... the ultraviolent main event is up next!
10. Tangled Web: Greg Excellent pinned Sami Callihan to win the Tangled Web Main Event. Words alone can not describe the action we all just witnessed in South Philadelphia. DJ Hyde took a massive fall off a 20 foot ladder through a pane of glass and was stretchered off leaving Greg by himself. He was able to pull off the victory by giving Sami a Samoan Drop through a ladder and chairs. After the match, Joe Gacy, frustrated with Sami turned on his mentor and seemingly broke free from the Switchblade Conspiracy. Too many insane moves to even begin talking about during this match... it has to be seen to be believed!

We're live at The CZW Arena in South Philadelphia, in front of a loud, huge crowd ready for DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS!!
DJ Hyde (along with the entire CZW Roster on the outside of the ring) opens the show to pay tribute to Chris Cash, JC Bailey, and Cody Corson.
Following the tribute and ten bell salute, DJ Hyde tends to some business regarding CZW's trip to Germany on November 6th and 7th. He continues by saying CZW is going through a transitional stage, bringing in some of the hottest talents on the independent scene but is then interrupted by HOMICIDE to a deafening reaction here at The Arena.
Homicide says he wants back in the Combat Zone, saying he wants to face the best and top talent! DJ asks the fans if they want to see Homicide back in CZW to a huge positive response. Hyde then makes the decision... Homicide will face the winner of the Chuck Taylor v. Johnny Gargano v. Sami Callihan v. Joker match on October 9th in Philadelphia!!
1. NI4NI defeated Greg Excellent & Johnny Calzone. Greg Excellent had to call on his favorite pizza man to be his tag team partner since his regular partner, DJ Hyde is out injured. NI4NI are making their debut at this event and are a well established unit on the independent scene. Both teams were able to showcase themselves well and it was a high paced affair. NI4NI were able to get the victory after JT Roberts delivered a spinning heel kick to Greg Excellent, who was on the shoulders of Core!
2. Sami Callihan defeats Johnny Gargano, Joker & Chuck Taylor in a 4 Way Showcase after making Gargano submit to the Stretch Muffler. This contest was an amazing display of hard hitting and high flying, as each of the four men wanted to show why they were the best and to get a shot at Homicide on October 9th. After a brutal finishing stretch, Sami was able to get the submission victory and will meet the Notorious 187 when CZW returns to The Arena!
3. First Round of the CZW World Tag Team Title Tournament: Irish Drive By defeat Team Macktion after an incredible combination Ace Crusher/Springboard Spike Piledriver. As a result of this match, Irish Drive By will meet Philly's Most Wanted in the second round of the CZW World Tag Team Title Tournament. After the match, Joe Gacy attacked both members of Team Macktion, being assisted by Ryan Slater! Which leads us into...
4. First Round of the CZW World Tag Team Title Tournament: Joe Gacy & Ryan Slater defeated Cheech & Cloudy to advance to the second round of the CZW World Tag Team Title Tournament. Cheech & Cloudy looked impressive in their return, but Gacy & Slater proved to be too much for them this evening, as they have something to prove to every body in the Combat Zone. Gacy & Slater picked up the victory after a backbreaker/flying elbow combination. They will go on to face The Osirian Portal in the next round.
5. Aerial Assault Ladder Match: AR Fox retrieved the contract to become the #1 Contender for the CZW World Junior Heavyweight Championship, besting Ruckus, RIcochet, tHURTeen, Alex Colon, and Facade. This match saw many huge dives and high flying moves, but it was AR Fox who was able to capitalize on an opportunity, as he grabbed the contract. He will take on the winner of the Adam Cole v. 6. CZW World Junior Heavyweight Title: Adam Cole defeated Blk Jeez to retain the championship. It was a physical, back and forth affair, much like their previous matches. However, something we haven't seen in their previous matches was how Adam Cole put Blk Jeez away, as he had a handful of tights, which is rather surprising, something we haven't seen out of Adam Cole before.
7. CZW Wired Television Title: Drew Gulak defeated Nick Gage via disqualification! Referee Brett Lauderdale came to this decision after Gage continually attempted to bring weapons into the fray. After the match, Gage decked Lauderdale with a thumbtack bat, much to the joy of the fans in attendence.
8. Drake Younger pinned Masada in an absolutely brutal affair which saw both men use many clever ways to utilize a chair. After 21 minutes, Drake was able to put Masada away after drilling him with a Northern Lights Bomb into steel chair which was unfolded, but UPSIDE DOWN!
9. CZW World Heavyweight Title: Jon Moxley retained the title over Scotty Vortekz in tonight's main event. It was a bloody affair which saw CZW Management attempt to stop the match due to Vortekz' deep cut above his eye. However Suicide Kings member Drake Younger would not let this happen, as he stepped in and encouraged Vortekz to continue. From this point on Moxley was narrowly able to fend off the challenge, almost being defeated on numerous occasions! However Moxley's wearwithall allowed him to get the victory and keep the title in a great match to cap off a great and emotional night in South Philadelphia!

On July 3rd at The Classic Grand Des Clarke will be in the house for 'Never mind the baws, here's the ICW!'.
We are happy to welcome Des to ICW as a special guest ring announcer for the show. ICW Owner Mark Dallas said "With our recent appearance in The Sun as well as being mentioned in Fighting Spirit, Powerslam and The Wrestling Press this year, along with the successful transition of internet sensation The Wee Man into a regular member of the ICW roster we see Des coming into the promotion on July 3rd as another feather in our cap and further proof that we are one of the fastest growing promotions in the U.K".
Des Clarke spent three years as a DJ on Scottish radio station Beat 106, fronting the Breakfast Show and winning the Presenter of the Year at the British Radio Awards in 2004.
Clarke later returned to Beat 106 under its new name of Xfm Scotland. On 7 November 2008, Xfm Scotland became Galaxy Scotland and on 10 November 2008, Clarke began hosting a weekday breakfast show with Vanessa Motion,Des & Vanessa @ Breakfast. In late 2010/2011 Galaxy Scotland became Capital FM and Des still hosts his daily breakfast show.
Des is a regular performer on the comedy circuit, playing venues such as The Stand, The Comedy Store and Jongleurs.
He also presented ITV's long running children's television show SMTV Live from March to December 2003, following the departure of Ant & Dec. He has also hosted Whatever on Sky One, Discovery's Invention SOS and Club Cupid, the adult dating show on STV as well as fronting the Scottish coverage of Children in Need.
Clarke has also been involved in sports broadcasting, appearing regularly on BBC One Scotland’s flagship football programmes, Offside and Sportscene.

Damnit, I got excited because I wanted to see what new awful promotion with ridiculous "stars" was trying to drum up an extra three people, but I actually wouldn't mind attending that show...I'd be out of there before the main event for sure, but I'd legetimately be interested in seeing Masters, Maryse, the six man tag match, the women's tag match, and even Viscera.
