Well looks like St. Louis is in the clear lead to get a MLS expansion team in the near future. That would be nice.
Hope so buddy.
By the way my soft spot mls team is Chicago fire.
I grew up hating any team in Chicago. Only exception was Chicago Bulls in the NBA back when I cared about the NBA. I am attached myself to DC United when MLS started. It will be nice to have a team here though.
Haha fair enough. Is they mainly due to state rivalry then? I know Blues & Blackhawks hate each other in Hockey.
Yup. Cards/Cubs and Blues/Blackhawks. Also had football Cardinals and Rams. Not so much rivals to the Bears but still a team in the same league as a Chicago team.

He is leaving though to go to Derby at the end of the season. :(
So our local paper broke news last night citing an unnamed source that next week MLS will announce St. Louis as the newest expansion team to MLS. This is going to be awesome of this is actually true.
update: Ownership group has announced a press conference for next Tuesday!
SC St. Louis?
The USL team is Saint Louis FC. So not sure if they will go with that since part of the owners in this group also own that team or if they will go a different route.
Ok, just thought that was the nickname for the group put together to make the bid for the team/stadium.
This group is called MLS4TheLou
Maybe that was the name of the group that was not able to get the public funding for stadium.
This group is paying for the stadium.
Would the USL team disband?
Maybe. Other recent expansion teams into MLS came from USL and those teams no longer exist like Cincinnati and Minnesota.
Another option would be for it to be a reserve team for the MLS team and stay in the USL. Lots of questions to be answered when they make the announcement.
Ahhh, gotcha.
At any rate congrats, dude. That town's deserved a first division side for a long time.
My family on my mom's side is from there and my grandad and uncle both having played and coached up there have talked my ear off about their soccer culture.
Really like the current look of MLS's franchise makeup. And with St. Louis locking down spot number 28 that only leaves two more before MLS hit their proposed 30 team mark. Sacramento from what I've read has been given the same exclusive rights St. Louis had to negotiate for the 29th spot, still up for grabs though. But assuming they nail it down then we're down to one more. Wikipedia tells me that one spot is down to Las Vegas, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Phoenix. A team in North Carolina would be nice given the kind of success NCAA teams have had there. Don't like Vegas at all, doesn't feel like a soccer town. Phoenix wouldn't be bad.
The ownership group is having a happy hour for fans after the announcement at one of my favorite places to go. Ugh. I can't go because we are in the middle of moving plus I need to go to PA meeting at my son's school that night.
Good news mate, hope it works out keep us updated.
It’s official. Team to start play in 2022 and it will not be the USL side. That team is not affected. Probably will end up being an affiliate or something though.
Tim Ream first DP
St. Louis T-Ravs..
Im very confused here was this game not meant to kick off at 5 NY time?
- - - Updated - - -
27 past is an odd ko time.
Ahh ya, that game..
NY/DC , It's fucking wank mind.
Games are often scheduled to start at odd times here.
Don't know for certain why but my best guess is it's related to the tv side of things. Something with either the broadcast or commercial time or even pregame nonsense like the national anthem.
They cut away to show New England score and in celebration people in fancy dress fired muskets?
SUCK ON THESE MAPLE NUTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
But seriously. This is the first time in my entire life that the Canadian men's team has beaten the US.
Now yes the US is quite shit at the moment. But Canada is rising.
Whitecaps should sack off Giroud and get Cavallini.
The thing is that the US should be better than we are. Yes we suck on a various levels but geez we should be doing better than we are lately.
Playoff games so far have been really good. Onto the final 4 this week.
I’m going Seattle vs Toronto final again.
The Pozuelo penalty at the end of the last game. The cheek on him. Second time this season against the same goalkeeper that he did the paneka. I think he did an equal amount all season.
Pretty stoked about Tab Ramos taking over the Dynamo reigns. Not sure how he's done as a coach but he was the first name I remember latching onto to at the national team level as a kid. Hope be can turn things around.
Seattle Sounders, what a win get in. Made up LAFC didn’t get to the final.
Actually watched me some MLS last night, That goal was filth.
TFC vs Seattle for the championship, the third time in four years. Both of TFC's goals were bangers. I loved it so.
I meant to say winning goal :D
I meant to say winning goal :D
I know going of FIFA player ratings is a bit daft, But that Josef Martinez is apparently the best player in the league?
All Star game to feature MLS All Stars vs. Liga MX All Stars
Meh. I may be old school but I just want to watch an all star game that is the east vs the west. Don't need to see an all star team take on another all star team or a club team from Europe or whatever.
St. Louis revealed name and crest today. St. Louis City SC is the name and I like the crest.
Looks like the local USL team may fold. Kind of weird. Different owner groups with a couple shared people. Plan was that the MLS side would be the MLS affliete for the USL side and basically the USL side would be the minor league/farm team to go along with the academy here in town. There is a story that the USL has not heard if they plan on playing next season and gave them a deadline but no official comment from St. Louis FC or USL.
I like the colours. There seems to be no consensus amongst the expansion teams over whether they are "Soccer Club" or "Football Club" - Nashville and St. Louis are SC where as Austin and Charlotte are FC, for example. Is it just completely arbitrary or does it reflect local trends/relationship with the MLS/NFL in any way?
Arbitrary af it seems. Certainly nothing relative to the nfl. Just global football grab bag..
Dynamo, FC, SC, United, Real, Inter, Sporting..
And cheesey they may be at times it honestly beats another league full of big cats or cool birds or pirates.
Pretty sure it is arbitrary.
As far as the names go. I honestly like names like we see in North American sports just because this is another North American sport. However I can see why teams have gone to naming conventions in line with what we see globally. I also personally believe that MLS teams should use SC instead of FC just because at the end of the day we call it soccer here. Just makes sense to do SC if you are going that route.
What the hell's going on here?

:wtf:
It's obviously just one eensy weensy friendly but the youth movement is pretty exciting, and rather encouraging in this very early look.
Forgot about the game. Pulled up on my phone. Just saw the last few minutes of the first half. Some nice ball movement. Hoping we can get a good youth movement going and get something going again.
They've been all over possession from the start, and the touches and runs have been there throughout while pressing strong offensively and defensively, but it's clear they've only just begun playing together as a whole as they just haven't found that cohesiveness in the last third.
It's like they're missing just one more really quality attacking player..;)
Yeah. Clear that they are not used to playing with each other and everyone is at different fitness levels depending on how much playing time they are getting at their clubs right now.
Feels like they're running out of gas in terms of keeping an organized shape and playing as a unit and now just going 1v1 wherever the ball lands.
Still hard not to see some very very early promise from this bunch's initial outing.
Yeah some promising stuff but not very organized at times. Lets see if they can sneak a goal in at the end.
Not bad. Lots to work on. Some promise though. I will try to remember to catch the game on Monday on my phone if I am in my office.
Forgot about the game and by the time I started watching on my phone US is up 3-1
Me too.. sumbitch.
Couldn't watch all of the second half and they scored 3 goals after I stopped watching. Figures. They still need work though. Panama was controlling things the first part of the second half. Nice to see the goals though.
Even with the scores the second half had too much lagging behind the ball. Seems they were a little complacent with a two goal lead and turned it back on once Panama got within one. Also some late subs added a timely spark. I heard on the broadcast that we had something like 70+% possession in the first half, so good to know they came out strong again even with the first half hiccup. But Panama are also kinda shit and I'm just enjoying watching the talent all grow and learn together overall. These kids are gaining experience and confidence by the minute.
Gioachinni's second was really nice.
I decided to stick the Orlando/New York FC play off on because it had gone to extra time and I'm very glad I did. What the fuck? Absolutely farcical, on so many levels.
I thought the premiership was bad. But that was a shit show
Absolute madness.
I watched various highlights of that. What a shit show. At the end of the day they were correct with the booking of the keeper but that was so fucking stupid to do so. All keepers encroach and unless it was just really really bad and he his back foot was like barely off the line let it go. And then allowing the backup keeper to come in before being like oh wait we can't do that. Of course you can't do that. You can't fucking sub a player during a shootout. Haven't been really watching a lot since DC was shit this season. Been watching a bit more college football. Need to find a way to watch Blackburn games on tv.
Especially when they had used all subs.
The issue was that I think you get an extra sub in extra time (which they might not have used) but you can't use that sub once it goes to penalties.
There really shouldn't be an issue though. You can't sub during penalities. You have to use the eligible players that were on the field at the end of OT. Which again just added to the mess of things that they even allowed it at first before someone was like no you can't do that. That and confusion on why there was not a verbal warning first for the keeper.
Oh it still doesn't excuse the ridiculousness of it at all. It's just they were wrong in a different, but still obvious and well known, way.
Fake season and playoffs.
Pretty kickass Yank hat-trick today from 3 different youngsters in 3 different top leagues..
Gio Reyna with a banger for Dortmund
Weston McKinnie with a clean header for Juve
and Christian Pulisic stealing a late finish for Chelsea
..it was a good day.
YUNUS MUSAH COMMITS TO U.S. MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM
Pretty cool..
What a satisfying victory..
I hate that I didn't get to watch it. :(
The boys bent but they not only didn't break they bounced back entirely.
These kids first real taste of concacaf together and they couldn't have responded with more resolve. Just great to watch, and bodes well for future competitions in the region now that they know what to expect.
They can now take a little momentum and build on it through the Gold Cup and later down the road to WC qualifying. Can't wait.
@MTR
Friendly vs Costa Rica currently..
sadly I was no where near a tv running around doing errands and such. I was getting updates on my phone during the game
Bracket for Leagues Cup 2021 pitting MLS and Liga MX against each other.

Mostly like, but don't love, the Sept. window WC qualifying roster. B- sounds about right.
Couple guys I absolutely don't want that are there, couple that are there that I could do without but no biggie, and a small handful that I'd rather have that didn't make it.
But the must haves are there and there's a couple pleasant surprises. So pretty alright on the whole.
Dumpster. Fucking. Fire.
I didn't get a chance to watch any games but we seem to be all over the map.
Ya, I spoke too soon for last night's match. But not for the qualifying effort all the way up to that point.
Stoked they turned it around and got the 2nd half result, but still so many things to address on the whole.
@MTR.. you get to watch vs Jamaica yet?
Dumb me didn't set anything to record. I need to find the highlights. I just looked at my phone and see were fucking losing to Panama.
Ya you didn't miss anything today. I was in and out of watching but what I saw was pretty pitiful. A lineup of mostly guys who have little to no business starting for the national team in wcq matches playing as such with zero creativity from the midfield in particular. I know there are injuries and the qualifying windows are tight, but Lletget, Acosta, Arriola, and Zardes all at once should be a nonstarter.
Berhalter just continually looks out of his depth. His selections are head-scratchers and his tactics are too rigid, and they're not at all in sync.
Dos a cero legit never gets old..
No it doesn't. I got to watch the game. They really took it to them that second half. Still need to stop struggling in the first half though but I will take a win over Mexico anyday.
I don't think this one was quite the 2nd half only show as the commentary was making it out to be. The results were more evident in the 2nd, and particularly with the goals of course, but I think that was just as much to do with the work put in in the initial 45. I saw some pretty wild stats about duels won and dispossessions that were so thoroughly lopsided in our favor that a) couldn't have all come in the second and b) showed the kind of relentless press that was applied from the get go. The screws hadn't been fully tightened until around 60 minutes or so but they were being turned from minute 1 onward. Mexico had a couple nice chances in the first while the pressure was still a work in progress. And that needs to continue to be worked out for the future. I never felt truly in danger though of this game getting away at all.
It was especially evident when watching Musah and Weah dominate centrally and on the right flank respectively. They flashed threats at Mexico from the outset that they had to honor all night that finally were too much to bare by the 2nd half. Even Antonee on the left wing was constantly moving forward keeping their midfield and defense at bay. We just ran and pushed at them and took and controlled possession until they just couldn't take it anymore. Having Pulisic come on when he did was a genuine morale breaker. It was absolutely fucking beautiful.
It wasn't but they still need to work on getting going better and faster in the first half.
So no tv coverage of the Jamaica game? I was going to stream it on my second monitor here at work but yeah nothing.
I signed up for a free week of Paramount + just to watch this one.
Paramount + is dogshit btw.
SUCK ON IT MEXICOOOOOOO
Having them play in an outdoor igloo on top of an ice rink was such fucking artistry.
I love that Canada beat Mexico. Canada is well on its way to going to the World Cup. Top of the standings right now.
Hate that after we beat Mexico the best we can do is a tie vs Jamaica
The wild thing is that while the Top 4 are pretty much guaranteed, it's all so close that Canada could easily end up in the playoff with the other confederations team.
Do we know what those play off match ups are yet like which regions play which regions? Because as long as our region isn't playing South America rep then they have a shot. Not sure otherwise.
edit: looks like it will be a draw to determine who plays who unlike in years past where it was decided ahead of time which region takes on which region.
The remaining games for the top 4 teams..
CAN (16 pts, +8 GD)
- H: USA, JAM
- A: HON, SLV, CR, PAN
USA (15 pts, +7 GD)
- H: SLV, HON, PAN
- A: CAN, MEX, CR
MEX (14 pts, +4 GD)
- H: CR, PAN, USA, SLV
- A: JAM, HON
PAN (14 pts, +2 GD)
- H: JAM, HON, CAN
- A: CR, MEX, USA
Mexico with the easiest path ahead, Canada with 4 away matches left, and the US with Can and Mex away still. Ugh.
And an interesting development, the remaining matches in qualifying will now be played with VAR. At least a few cards were left unshown in the first few windows so we'll see how this effects the shithousery moving forward.
At least in theory Panama has the most difficult path left because they have Canada, Mexico and US left.
Also very big development to finally get VAR in. Did they decide that they could pay for the cameras to go into the countries that couldn't afford them earlier with all the corruption money they get?
Yeah I like that they were able to get VAR in play for the rest of the games.
That game in Mexico is going to be rough for the US and I beat the game in Canada will be tough as well. US definitely needs to take care of business on the home games and try to walk out the away games with no losses.
Never. Gets. Old.

So we lucked out..

Best we could hope for I think.
Yeah especially since this is a one game play off and not the normal two game playoff.
:canada:
Huge game Sunday afternoon, US at Canada…
