Ah ok. That puts a different light on it then.
In both of Jose's league games so far, he's conceded in the 73rd and 96th minute.
Just an odd stat worth sharing.
Watford job is a dream for whoever comes in. That squad is capable of performing a lot better.
The Dereham Deco strikes again!
Ljunberg out.
Norwich really countering well here.
I'd be delighted to draw Arsenal (or Man United) in the Europa League.
Grealish...good god.
Brendan Rodgers coming out with the exact same patter he gave us one week before jumping ship. He's off.
You leave wee brendie alone
No Spurs/Man Utd or Merseyside Derby on Sky or BT? Guessing they are part of that Amazon package?
United dominant and then that wonder touch from Alli. Made Fred look like...well still Fred. But damn.
Well, that was the worst Spurs performance of the season.
Utd were always going to be up for that and should have won by plenty, to be fair.
Ok, maybe away at Brighton was worse. Then again, maybe not.
Silva about to be sacked apparently. David Moyes interim boss
@MMH what do you think?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, there are deep, deep issues at Spurs.
Moyes at Everton is hilarious to me. Well, to everyone, probably.
Have you seen them, Alex? Nobody seems bothered.
I am being somewhat dramatic, I'll give you that.
But there is something very uncomfortable about the whole feel of watching them for most of 2019, to be quite honest.
Even Son last night. Ndombele played a slightly mid-placed pass and instead of chasing it down, Son's head dropped and he let it roll out of play, in a dangerous position, no less. Just gave up on it.
Any time an attack comes near us, we look like conceding, no matter who's back there.
We'll see. Interesting run of games ahead.
I saw a few people complaining about that Son incident - looked to me like he just got wrong footed.
Silva gone.
Oh well here we go again...
Moyesy baby
Ian Evatt is the best manager in England.
Chelsea can sign players again.
Im sure big Nige will do a sound job at Watford.
Lampard out
Well, that was unexpected.
Lovely result. I get the whole argument about how much better United plays counter-attacking and that against worse squads they sit more people back, but still why can't they play like this against the lower half teams?
RIP Ron Saunders
Built a great Villa side in the early 80s, sadly didn't even get to stick around for their crowing achievement the European Cup.
He was from The Wirral, Loads of that side seemed to come from around Merseyside then.
Once when I was a kid, and I wasnt even a fan at the time (wasnt even into football as a matter of fact). Not sure how much that "counts", as I guess you're trying to judge how much of a fan I am.
It didnt really even have any impact on why I became a United fan. My uncle was a real fan growing up, who took me to a Villa game (which a part of my family also supported). I basically became a United fan because everyone in my school was either a Liverpool fan or a United fan, and I picked the side that my mates were on.
You should be a real fan like the people at the game today who threw stuff at Fred and the guy who made monkey noises and gestures. Those are real supporters.
Nice of them to spend a bit of time on MOTD2 saying how good Jonny Evans. I assume they'll do one for Rob Holding when he plays more than 1 game this season
Look at SOF on the troll
That header was utterly ridiculous.
I knew Arsenal were bad but jesus christ.
I still think this tbh just West Ham are worse. Pepe is insanely one footed. Someone needs to have a word
We won a game! Rob Holding didn’t even play either.
The last half an hour was what we are capable of. Martinelli is a player.
https://www.sporcle.com/games/freaky...=premierleague
This is hard as rocks. Every player to win a Premier League winner's medal without completing 90 minutes.
God yeah that was tough, I got 14 but really struggled.
Nice solid start.
Was at Wolves/Spurs today. In case it isn't clear on the highlights, Wolves absolutely battered Spurs - how they managed to lose I have no idea. Vertonghen got the winner but he probably has PTSD, Traore beasted him. Spurs nowhere near good enough for the top 4 on today's evidence.
Neither are we.
Yeah pretty brutal defending by Arsenal so far.
Totally clueless.
De Bruyne is ridiculous
Total embarrassment and disgrace of a first half. Could be 7 or 8 here.
Wenger
Honestly why get rid of emery with clearly no plan of what to do next. It's moronic
Strange that hey don't seem to have a shortlist of people for situations like this. Arteta must be mad to take it.
Some very interesting CL ties.
Yeah, that's a fun looking draw, that. City and Madrid and Atletico and Liverpool look very tasty. Chelsea and Munich too.
Spurs and Leipzig will be interesting.
Candidates are rightly understanding the the organization is the issue, not just the players on the pitch. Kroenke has always been the problem.
Absolutely. I think his son felt the pressure in the summer hence them spooshing the money for Pepe instead of actually investing where the squad needs it.
Tierney was a good signing. Leno looks passable. Bellerin looks to have stalled a bit but centre back is a mess. Defensive midfield is a mess and has been for a while.
You honestly just need to buy 2 new players to make a decent change to squad. Pepe makes sense if they know one of Aubameyang or Lacazette is off. Ozil won't be going to China anytime soon now so god knows what happens there.
There's a lot of youth players they can use to in midfield and on wings. They should move others out to make room that will help with cash flow problems. Saliba may well be one of the answers at CB but they need someone else. Is it Nathan Ake? I dunno could be. Then they need to find some real steel in midfield of the ilk of Idrissa Gueye or similar.
If Arteta doesn't have a shopping list that looks like
- CB x 2 + Saliba back
- Defensive midfielder
- Backup right back
- A backup Striker incase 1 of the main 2 leaves
Then he's a clown.
https://www.arsenal.com/first-team/players look at the fucking state of that midfield and defense. Laughable
@MMH you should be ashamed for not giving Holgate a shout out here. He's been brilliant past few games looked like a genuine talent
I believe the thinking was to add some goals from someone else as we had lost Ramsey. We weren't getting goals from anyone else bar Auba and Lacazette. Iwobi wasn't chipping in, neither was Mikitarayan.
I agree though, more of the budget should have gone at the back end of the pitch. I wasn't sold with Luiz coming in. He may be good in a settled 3 man defence but we aren't that.
Saliba may turn out to be good but we need to ship out Mustafi, Luiz and probably Sokratis. Chambers and Holding are worth keeping around but we need someone who can organise a defence.
Midfield is also a total mess. Xhaka is one paced and ill disciplined. The others are all young and promising (Willock, Torreira, Guendozi). Ship Xhaka out and we need a good defensive midfielder and someone to link the play. Ozil needs to go.
On the strikers, Nketiah looks very promising. We might be able to get away with using him.
Nketiah can't get a game at leeds tbf
Torreira looks like he'll be off as well I'm thinking which isn't a bad thing.
Chambers is genuinely not very good. Are you wanting to keep him as 5th ot 6th choice CB or something?
Emery was right to drop Ozil completely. He needs to feel pain so he decides to leave but instead the fans sung his name and look how he's repaid you all. Clowns man.
Honestly this will sound a bit weird but this has been building since the moment they, and this includes the fans, bucked David Dein out.
They kicked out someone who loved the club and saw it as a caretaker role for future generations in search of money and short term success. Gazidis, Kroenke and the rest are the result.
He has always looked talented but a bit suspect defensively. Not fast enough for a full back, not strong enough for a centre back.
He was great played centre mid yesterday, could be his future. I know when we signed Stones and Holgate from Barnsley their fans were more upset about losing Holgate.

Sounds familiar although we didn't have the success beforehand...
He is less bad than the 3 I mentioned. He may even have a future in midfield, but I think he could be squad player maybe. Torreira was great for the first half of last season. Emery moved him further forward and it just didn't work. I think he wants to go back to Italy, but I would rather we would keep him if we can.
Ozil just doesn't fit the demands of modern day football, when you look at the like of Liverpool and Man City. Just cant have a luxury no 10 at top level now.
United need Pogba at his creative best back soon. Midfield creativity and the lack of it is why this stat exists.Quote:
Manchester United have won more points against the five teams above them (13 points) than against the 14 teams below them (12 points).
This palae team is awful. Hard to imagine hodgson is still there next year. It all feels so tired
Troll
I'm not say he's shit or even at fault but that's a club that isn't far off dropping like a stone. No investment and not really sure on a plan for the team.
I may just be bitter that Max Meyer isn't playing more as I think he's unreal but you can't honestly tell me palace fans are enthused with this?
If something happened to Zaha, I would feel different I am sure. But even then I probably still think they Hodgson would keep it tight enough at the back to scrape by.
I am mostly basing this on the fact that I bet on Palace games a lot. Almost always under for total goals; then lose to good teams and beat the bad ones. I appreciate the predictability.
Arteta has become a bit of a myth. Not sure why he's a candidate for Arsenal.
I think in all fairness, Palace have had absolutely bags of injuries this season and at the moment their defence is basically Martin Kelly, two bags of sand and a scarecrow with a cardboard cutout of James Tomkins' face stuck to it. Considering the issues they've had I think they've been doing amazingly well. It's not entertaining but they've picked up some good results.
Could be.I thought they are absolutely horrendous last night bar 10 minutes.
Brighton played them off the park
and scored one goal. Hodgson will eat up teams like Brighton trying to play fancy every week of the year.
Palace lost two players that went to top sides. They replaced them with 50 year old Gary Cahill that couldn't get a club and James McCarthy because it freed up James Mccarthur to play left back. What more can you possibly expect?
Green shoots mate. Thinking beyond this year and next. Succession planning. Who replaces Zaha is it Ayew? Why is Benteke having to lead the line? What's the point of Connor Wickham?
You keep taking this as a criticism of Hodgson which is odd. The club isn't showing much of a direction to me, the standard of football (understandable with current players) will start to alienate fans and they will look to change. The easiest change they can make is the manager. I don't think it'll work for them but I could easily see it on top of all that he's 73 next year.
I can't believe that Christian Benteke has 4 goals in his last 60. What the fuck happened to him. He was genuinely a potential worldbeater when he was at Villa.
Ancelotti for Everton. What do you think of that @MMH?
You spoke about yesterday's game but also about succession planning. You don't understand your point.
Palace are already bang in trouble and being propped up by a manager suited to doing so and a player who can carry an attack on his shoulders. It's not next year or the year after, it's all being papered together right now.
I do understand my own point thanks. The game on Monday was terrible they played awful football and whilst that is understandable with the squad that's currently been assembled there's little to suggest it's getting better in the medium term. When Zaha leaves they'll have to try and create a brand new attack and their dealings in the transfer market aren't exactly indicative that will go well. You can look at a team and separate current results from overall squad and 'organisational' health. Palace as you said are a mess (what I said at the start), the squad feels tired (thats the comment about no green shoots or particular sources of optimism) and so I feel like it reaches a tipping point with fans soon and the board will probably look at Brighton and others and feel a 'new era' is the way to inject energy into it hence me saying Hodgson may not be there next year
When Zaha goes they could really genuinely struggle. Whoever is in charge of the transfers and the squad is culpable be that Hodgson or anyone else.
Nobody talking about Villa battering the Champions of Europe 5-0 last night? Shame.
What the youth team?
Aston Villa 5 (FIVE) - 0 Liverpool
In theory, they're the European Champions now. They'll be World Champions if Liverpool get on well this week. That's got to be really encouraging for Villa fans.
Big time. Good to see Wesley break his duck by scoring against the league leaders and European Champions, that will do his confidence the world of good.
Are you worried by the rumours this morning of Real Madrid coming in for Neil Taylor and Elmohamady in January? Keeping a clean sheet against the Premier League champions elect has clearly turned some heads.
Neil Taylor could be the worst attacking full back in the Premier League. He was gassing against a fucking 16 year old.
Well Madrid are welcome to him then.
It looks like Arsenal are going to get Arteta. Lots of pressure considering how much they are spending for him. Will be funny if he quits and ends up with City anyway when Pep leaves.
I just can't see it going well with Arteta. Arsenal need a strong character and I don't think Arteta is that.
TOBY!!!!!!!!
Well done Southampton for beating the theoretical European Champions.
This has been an awful weekend of games for the most part so far.
Ah fuck me De Gea.
