Stokes is all kinds of ridiculous
Jesus fuck this is more tense than the World Cup final.
Holy fuck. How do I sleep after this?
Harris drop, Lyon fumble, terrible wasted review and Ben Stokes heroics. What a fucking finish.
Would hate to be Leach here.
Spectacular
Incredible performance from Stokes.
Absolutely phenomenal. Never seen an innings like that, utterly heroic.
I'm still in awe of that finish. The entire last 90 minutes, really. Phenomenal almost doesn't cover it.
Yeah, I mean you called it spot on.
Only thanks to Stokes. The way some of them got themselves out was shockingly inept.
That was absurd. From 2 in 64 balls to change it up for that is just mental. Have to hope some of the fortitude shown in the second innings can be sustained while still improving the terrible decisions.
JP wins the cricket thread. Fair fucking play.
Ben Stokes SPOTY and immediate knighthood.
Ashes to ashes.....
Bob Willis
No way!
Think it was only last month he was in The SSN studio, looked well enough but apparently has died after a 'short' ilness
Gutting mate.
Anybody else catch today's play?
The pitch is already offering a lot of lateral movement for the spinner and uneven bounce for the quicks. That's only going to get more severe as the days go by.
224-4 doesn't look that great on paper, but I think that's probably a match winning day one from England.
Out without playing ffs, The Indian fans going nuts celebrating the 'victory' Are an embarrassment.
Few random thoughts.
People love last year's Headingly Ashes test for good reason, but for me, this is even more impressive. Records might not have fallen, but at no point did this result look possible until today. As where Headingly was filled with poor mistakes and decisions on a pitch which was waiting for big scores, this was a low scoring game typified by some great bowling and really gritty bowling. At multiple points from Day Two on, it looked far beyond our reach to get a result. Again and again we got back up and battled on. One of the most impressive performances I can remember and one which may become a very important game when looked at in hindsight.
Related to the above, this team is tough. Not chest beating bravado tough, as England teams have had a tendency to be for years now, but a real, ingrained hard streak. There's no histrionics, there's just a determintaion that hasn't been there previously and a belief that they are never out of the game. Ben Stokes has a hell of a lot to be thanked for in bringing that about and his characteristics are now being shared by almost all the team. Of course, we're going to lose occasionally. But easy wins against us are going to be few and far between.
Stuart Broad's one and only century came at Lords way back in 2010. You have ask, what the hell happened? The man can bat, how is his average so low?
Woakes and Broad are undroppable at this point, so between Archer and Anderson to make way for Woods for the next test and I'd side with Anderson taking a rest.
Dean Jones is dead.
Anybody watching the second Sri Lankan test?
14 overs in, Sri Lanka have a lead of 74 and are 3 wickets down. Any more go before Lunch and I think England start to creep towards a possible win.
Edit - Wicket taken with almost the next ball.
I finally sacked off Sky Sports Cricket, Golf, F1 etc the other week, but this series has seemed very interesting, especially after the 1st day of the first Test, which had me thinking it might be a non-event.
I can catch it on the app though, so might do later.
FreeSports has Ireland matches.
This is so dull, I love it. Sibley is a chore to watch, but he's been perfect for this.
Sri Lanka have fallen apart. This bowling attack is offering nothing.
For anybody in the UK who doesn't know, live Test Cricket is back on terrestrial tv, Channel 4 are showing England's tour of India.
Really composed start, 51 without loss at the moment. Only one moment of concern and that wasn't anything serious, just a run out opportunity.
Early days, but encouraging.
Test cricket is only exciting when it's the ashes ;)
Chris Gayle continues to be good value 50 off two overs
It was a treat to see him live at the last World Cup, Lazy in the field and he bowed when we cheered him for actually retrieving the ball
