i guess it makes too much business sense to walk away from but the multi night thing really kills my interest
I hope that the 3 night deal is only for this year to help recoup some money and they at least go back to 2 nights next year
2 nights in the span of one day would be quite the feat.
I am sorta convinced that third show is just New Year Dash with the Wrestle Kingdom name instead
I'm a fan of this match but I definitely see Okada getting the win. It's been an unfortunate start to the IWGP World championship.
The main event of 1/5 is now set
The winner of Shingo vs Okada will face the man who was never defeated for the World Heavyweight Championship Will Ospreay
I feel that Shingo has to beat Okada and Ospreay, especially Ospreay.
You know, I don't mind the 2-day model. But I don't like the top title being defended both nights every year.
I like it being defended both nights. If you are going to have a two day model it makes sense. People want to see the title defended no matter what night they attended if they are attending. Plus I want to see each night if they are going to do two nights. They are not WWE with two main titles that they can do one each night.
Shingo beat Okada to win the vacant title. I wouldn't be surprised to see him win again so that we get the Ospreay/Shingo match. Then again it has been some time since Okada was the champ so I also wouldn't be surprised to see him win and face Ospreay but at the same time I don't want him to be Ospreay. I would like to see Shingo continue and see what he can do or give it back to Ospreay and let him run with it again since his time was cut short due to injury.
well, they did have two titles that could have for each night, but they went and tied them together for a year and then scrapped one of them. I'd much prefer a format with two strong feuds, one for the IC title and the g1 winner going after the heavyweight, with them main eventing each night, with the heavyweight getting night 2.
there was no need to keep the double belts for so long. because both belts were tied up together, they convolute last year's build up by having kota lose the g1 shot, still getting the title match anyway, winning the title on night one despite losing the shot and then defending it the next night, not really allowing a real crowning moment to be enjoyed. now they've got another crowded field just to telegraph the two nights. it very much feels like treating the title as a prop, to me.
okada/ospreay would play nicely into the build up of will into a heavyweight main eventer, from matches against one another as faction members at anniversary cards, new japan cups and g1's, to will's turn and being defeated by okada at wrestle kingdom last year. would be a good way to cement will. however, i dont like the idea of a one day reign fot okada.
best route, i think, is the champ who didnt lose vs the guy who won the vacated title. i feel like jay white, if these contract rumors are all diversions, is set to be the first foreigner to leave the january 4th tokyo dome show as iwgp champ(we're not counting lesnar), so i dont think ospreay wins on night two no matter who he faces, unless things really are at odds with white, but even then with priestley over in wwe, i'd be cautious giving that moment to will, especially after how kenny left.
I enjoyed the double gold angle but hated how it played out that year plus especially with getting rid of such a great title.
I still don't mind the double defense but this year it is kind of a puzzle on how they book it.
This year had the best reason to do two title matches since Ospreay never actually lost the title
I agree the reasoning makes sense. Just curious to see how they play it out.

has there been any decent speculation for his opponent?
I figure if he can get cleared in time it will be Kota Ibushi

Who is staying up and watching live?
I got work in the morning :grumpy:
I took the next couple days off
Looking forward to Shibata, Ishii vs EVIL, and El Desperado!
Desperado is so fucking cool.
I had to tap out on night two. stupid covid. thinking about pulling it up shortly and watching it.
KENTA is all kinds of injured. Dislocated hip, broken nose, torn ligaments in his hand.
The Japanese broadcast of the 3rd WK show is kicking around online. With the better sound and the music back in this show is by far the best night of this year's Wrestle Kingdom.
