When you're in a winning position and you have time, hammer it home.
Ok it is much more fun when you can watch these collapses live
Come on Aussies, hold out for another 90 minutes, you were doing so well for a while there
I feel a bit underwhelmed now.
I'm not, winning the urn back is everything. A competitive fifth test would be good now we have won though.
I only saw the first hour of this test but it was enough to know we were taking the series. Broad was incredible, 8-15 is seriously historic.
Just want to congratulate you guys. Australia are very bad.
I've had a death in the family that's hit pretty hard so I'm still not around a lot but I thought of you guys just now
Sorry to hear that Pete, thoughts are with you.
Who chooses to field first at the Oval?!
I can half figure out why he did it.
By putting them into bat on a wicket that looked a bit like Trent Bridge, it may swing like Trent Bridge and give them the fear of what happened and give us a psychological edge if an early wicket or two fell.
Instead, they just batted well and Cook looks like a plum.
But, at least he's trying something new. I even saw him declare in the series rather than just batting the whole tail. He's growing.
That Starc 50 killed the game. If we had ripped through them there we might have been in for an interesting few days.
Utterly spineless from England again.
Apart from the result this has been a really bad test series. There hasn't been a single close match and one side or the other has collapsed under any kind of pressure.
I suppose the Stokes dismissal is karma for Broad not walking...
Genuinely a bit sad to see Mitchell Johnson go today.
Will Lehman now play Siddle or will he get to keep being twelfth man forever whilst Cummins or the like come in?
Anyone know who this exciting, attacking team are who are playing South Africa?
I don't get the constant preoccupation from the commentators about declarations now. Stokes and Bairstow are scoring for fun and every run they get now South Africa need to get later. Stokes could have the World Record before the day is out.
Outstanding talent in our side, Stokes in particular is unplayable on his day and just wonderful to watch, my lad who isnt a cricket fan at all watched this morning in awe.
Colly has been saying for years that he had more to come and I doubted it, bloody hell he wasn't kidding.
Max Walker has died :(

Only highlight of the current series has the memes regarding David Warner and OLED TVs
I was going to say is Warner that rat faced cunt, but that's Siddle :D
The English test fold is not particularly inspiring at the moment. It doesn’t help that we’re having our first test of the summer in July. The batting order in particular is a mess with Ballance’s third recall, Bairstow being moved around all the time, not settling on an opener and not having a number 5. The tests they do have lined up look like good preparation but it won’t end well going into an ashes test with Ballance sat back in his crease waiting for the Australian attack to make a mistake.
No Ashes chat lads? What's happened to this place?
Pete Cash not around anymore I assume?
I saw the first half hour before bed. I was surprised at how big a change there has been from the last big series (can't remember if it was the summer or last winter), there are four players in the England side I've never heard of. I'm an interested casual observer rather than a hardcore fan but it looks quite well balanced so far?
I watched until lunch. Was impressed with the partnership of Vince and Stoneman. That was very much needed after Cook went cheaply.
I'm expecting a whitewash, but that was a solid start. Shame they lost 3 wickets for not many runs later on.
Hey up, Pabs.
Steady night, would have probably won the day if Lyon's hadn't turned into a laser target Terminator.
For an awful side without our best player that was a decent start.
We’re still going to get humped though :(
3 wickets in 4 runs tonight. England sre certsinly getting a humping.
Saw none of it, but it sounds pretty even to me.
So, do I stay up late to watch now that it's the weekend? :chin:
Anyone who knows the time zones in Australia, are the later tests going to be earlier or later in the UK? At the moment it's basically the exact sweet spot for seeing fuck all, starting at midnight and ending around 7 or 7.30 - at least if it's a couple of hours either way we might catch the start or end
Nah, out in the playoffs. Blatantly.
Cooking with gas now though
1 or 2 more before lunch please boys and we're in business
Well this has taken a slight turn for the better, tomorrow should be good
Malan's wicket was disappointing, only a slight deviation, really should have had it covered. That said, it was backs against the wall stuff from him for a hell of a long time and he did superbly.
Woakes getting the bottom of the bat onto that yorker might make all the difference.
We lack quality and that one special player who can own a match, the Aussies aren’t scared of our bowlers and our batsmen can’t destroy an attack, or drop anchor.
We need a Colly, an Atherton, a Gower, the guy you know will be there session after session without doing something daft, and we need (desperately) someone who can knock a bowler out of the attack.
On the positive side though at least there was something there this test, we looked like we actually gave a crap about the game and might have a go.
Full year bans for those cunts. Good. Rot.
Agreed.
The media hysteria over here has been astounding. You'd think it's the worst thing ever to happen in this country.
-edit- It's been an amazing opportunity for David Warner haters (aka "everyone") to sink the boots in.
Anyone else in the queue for world cup tickets? Looking to grab some for Bristol and maybe Edgbaston. Been queueing for 95 minutes so far....
There was an outpouring of congratulations and thanks towards Joe Root earlier today for his response to being confronted with homophobia during the latest test. I was one of those people, and I found Root's response very impressive.
Here's a brilliant piece (written by the best/worst drinking partner in the entire world) which explains, in great detail, why I and many other are a bit daft. We're celebrating meeting the lowest of expectations.

I think the article isn't taking into consideration this took place in a country where being gay is illegal (but being a lesbian is fine apparently).
As someone with lots of family in Trinidad. The Caribbean is very, very homophobic.
So while I get the writers point, I still think Root should be commended because of where this was said.
Why would that impact Root's response in the middle of the pitch?
By which I mean I can understand that to a point if it had been a remark shoted by a fan when the team were out. But it was in the most natural place he can be, the middle of the pitch.
I mean you might be right, he was just out there on the pitch and I'm sure for someone who has been playing forever like him he hardly notices much of the external stuff outside of the weather. But my thinking was, similar to how speaking out against homophobia in Russia for example might be, you may just be tempted to not say anything because you know you're in an area that doesn't care about that at all and is very homophobic.
Got myself a ticket for Australia vs Windies on the 6th :hyper:
Enjoy the match there @JP ?
Moeen Ali can suck on my sweaty ball sack.
Hes a Birmingham lad though! Mr Khan community leaders favorite cricketer too.
Besides the result and the fact I have a red burning face today, I enjoyed myself. Good atmosphere with everyone enjoying themselves and getting on. I got there a little late so did miss Warners wicket
Two Australian players I came away actually appreciating were Coulter-Nile and Starc.
Chris Gayle taking his cap off to acknowledge the crowd cheering him actually doing some fielding was great too.
All in all came away a bigger fan of cricket so good stuff.
Gutted I've not seen much, so far. Would love to get to a game.
Glad you had fun, PG. I'll try and tune in for a bit for England/Bangladesh tomorrow.
Bloody Australians.
I've got really into the cricket this summer, usually I only really pay attention to the Ashes (and even then in a half-arsed sort of way) but I've listened to and watched loads of the World Cup. Are England likely to make the semis the way things are going? Seems like India and Australia are the teams to beat?
Also on a more general note, why is a player like Eoin Morgan good enough to be captain of the one day team, but not good enough to even get a game for the test team? I know they're different disciplines but it seems weird to me that there would be that much difference.
Oh Si, the answers to those are long! In short, first part, we SHOULD make the semis, but with the 3 hardest teams to play, it might be tough. Lose today, then 3 other teams legitimately can knock us out. NZ are very strong (Boult and Lockie Ferguson are excellent and fast) and we all know India are great, but every team can be beaten, as proved by Afghanistan getting so close against the Indians. I would like to think we will make it, but horrible half-emptiness tells me otherwise and Pakistan sneak in.
Test team, it's the change of ball, style of play etc which leads to difference in squads. I am sure Morgan could do a job, but unlikely he will get a go.
God I wish I was watching this!
Early days, of course. This is England.
This is insane
Fucking hell
WHAT A FINISH. FANTASTIC FANTASTIC DRAMA
Some exciting things happened in England for sports today seems like.
How the fuck am I supposed to sleep after that? The Boult catch 6, the overthrow, the amazing fielding by NZ at the end and then to be outdone by great fielding at the death. Insane. Stokes was beyond brilliant too, what a finish.
A tied game on runs too, even after the super overs. What the actual fuck.
That was insane. Crazy day of sport.
The most amusing news to wake up to is that the umps apparently made an incorrect call and the overthrow should have only been awarded 5 runs, not 6, as the batsmen hadn't yet crossed when the act of throwing took place.
Oh my God. I quite enjoyed the first half of that yesterday. England's innings and beyond, my God. There'll never be a game like that again, let alone in a World Cup Final. Amazing.
 Edgbaston
Let it be known that today I created the Chris Woakes - DuckTales song. It hasn't caught on yet but it will.
Top order collapse, Smith century, tail wagging.
As is tradition.
England-Ireland was probably the weirdest game ever. England bowled out for just 80-odd in their first innings yet Ireland bowled out for half that in their last innings.
Harlem globetrotters hustling stuff by England. Gutted for Ireland though.
I still believe.
Anyone watch the KP documentary series on Sky? The man clearly acted like a cock, But to me Graeme Swann came across as the bigger cunt, Didn't believe a word that came out his mouth about the situation.
No, but I probably will.
I got the feeling KP never really fitted in with England, but yes, he gave the selectors no choice, really.
Jesus Christ we have fucked this right up.
45/6. An absolute embarrassment. Selecting this batting lineup was unforgivable.
If Roy is ever chosen to open the batting again the selectors have taken a blow to the head.
It was a lot to ask to put him straight in to open in the Ashes, but fuck me if he starts next Test... have to say that the Aussies' bowling has been exemplary, but this is atrocious stuff. If we get over triple figures I'd be delighted from here. Have to hope Archer and Broad skittles them for even less and we have a chance on a middling pitch thereafter with people playing for their place.
It just gets worse.
Jesus Christ aj,gshagsajdhladhlad
This is all kinds of ridiculous.
Really expected a full one of off stump after the short assualt but guess an edge whilst ducking is good enough.
Brilliant!
I'm in on office with 3 big cricket fans. Not one of us has mentioned the word 'cricket' today. I've tutted, laughed and slapped my head once or twice, but I'm not bringing it up.
I put £20 on an Australia win at 10:55 this morning. Cashed out already for 3x the value. Cheers.
England getting properly punished now and there’s still 3 days left! Australia can declare at any time and they’ll still win.
This isn't over yet. The pitch hasn't been doing anything extraordinary, it's just been a parade of awful batting.
Anything below 350 is a task, but it's not in fantasy territory. Get them out quickly tomorrow and time is on their side.
More than enough time to pull it back sure. But then again it’s England batting we’re talking about. Their bowling has been amazing but the other side of the coin has been shite. If they can somehow keep the opening or middle order in three figures then small outside chance but the way they collapsed today.....
@Peter Griffin rolleyes comment yet positive rep? Was that meant to be a neg?
Nooooo silly I don't neg as a rule, I just don't see the England/Scotland as a cricket rivalry, Surely everyone should be united against Australia.
Pass me the gin @JP
It's like they've never seen a test match before. I don't care it it was a great ball, Roy has to be moved or dropped.
The openers needing replacing aside, this is exactly where I hoped we'd be at end of play today. The game hinges on the first session tomorrow. Get through that unhurt, I think we could do this.
Fair play to Root, didn’t think he’d last this long after the diabolical first innings then when it went 15-2 to start off with in the second innings.
Stokes is playing a blinder here, good stuff.
