I've noticed that Tanahasi always seems to get KUSHIDA on his team. Coincidence, or is there a little buddy thing going on?

I think it goes back to TANASMA
All I know is that that was a stable. Were they both in it?
Tanahashi/Tajiri/Kushida it was a mix of Tanahashi's name and SMASH
Ahhhhhh, gotcha.
Awesome, I hope that continues on as a future association. They go well together.

8. G1 Tag League – Block B: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Hirooki Goto [6] beat Togi Makabe & Satoshi Kojima [6] (17:49) when Tanahashi used the High Fly Flow on Kojima.
* “The Billion Powers” Tanahashi & Goto claw their way into the semis on the head to head rule after a massive win over Makabe & Kojima today, which tied the two teams on 6pts but sent the winners through on the afore mentioned rule in second place.
* Nakamura & Yano go through in much more convincing fashion as yet again Nakamura shows strength and dominance in a tournament, he and Yano going into the semi finals with a 5-0 record after today’s win over Tenzan & Inoue.
* IWGP & GHC Tag Team Champions, Bad Intentions, won Block A with a victory over Nagata & Fale. I forgot to mention a few days ago that Bernard & Anderson successfully defended the GHC Tag Team Title in NOAH for the second time with a win over Go Shiozaki & Shuhei Taniguchi when Bernard pinned Taniguchi.
* The last semi finalists are Suzuki & Archer who also had a very strong campaign and defeated Strong Man & Tama Tonga today to endure their passage into Sunday’s finals tournament.

CHAOS/Billion Powers or Bad Intentions then :chin:
I can't really figure out what combination here leads to future storylines that make the most sense. I always just generally expect redemption teams like Billion Powers to carry it, but what then? Its not like Goto is going to turn on Tanahashi AGAIN. I guess going Chaos/Billion Powers makes sense, but that wont lead to any singles matches that can reasonably be called fresh. But then again, Bad Intentions have already had their run and I doubt they'll go heel/heel with Chaos/Bad Intentions.
I can't help but get the feeling that we'll get Suzuki and Archer vs. Billion Powers with Suzuki going over to challenge Tanahashi, but fuck I would hate for Archer to get that spot.
Billion Powers against CHAOS in the finals, Yano pins Tanahashi to build more heat for their title match running with a "Yano has Tanahashi's number".
Tomorrow will be day 500 of the IWGP Tag Title reign of Giant Bernard and Karl Anderson

7. G1 Tag League – Final: Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer beat Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson (17:42) when Archer used the Dark Days on Anderson.
* Minoru Suzuki and foreign giant Lance Archer are the 2011 G1 Tag League winners! The tandem defeated Nakamura & Yano in the semi finals with Suzuki earning a big scalp by pinning CHAOS leader Nakamura. In the other semi, IWGP & Ghc Tag Team Champions Bad Intentions defeated Tanahashi & Goto to set up a final with just one Japanese fighter. Suzuki & Archer then pulled off the near impossible by beating one of the most dominant tag teams in Japanese pro wrestling history, Archer really making a statement by pinning Anderson to lift the trophy and move the two into top contendership for the IWGP Tag Team Title.
* New Japan announced the sequel to this year’s colourful and entertaining New Japan and CMLL joint shows. “NJPW PRESENTS CMLL FANTASTICA MANIA 2012″ will be a double header again at Korakuen Hall, taking place on January 23rd and 24th. Top stars from CMLL will head to Japan and mix with New Japan juniors to put on big shows with title matches and all.
Dear god, I never expected they'd just outright put Archer over as the star of the whole thing.
....why? There must be a logical reason. I refuse to believe they did this because they think they can make Lance Archer a star.
I keep reading these results and wondering why Archer's winning all the time. Does Japan think he's awesome or something?
what do you mean by "japan"?
Well I guess big gaijin have always been "big" in Japan. Vader, Hansen, Bob Sapp etc.
So instantly Archer has that going for him and being in that different context should make him more interesting (especially at MiSu's side) but he's just so forced, devoid of personality, awkward and lame.
So going the opposite of forced, devoid of personality, awkward and lame, I want to talk about the Three Wunderkids. Who are the Three Wunderkids you ask? Well, the name (which I stole from someone else who frequents another board I go to) applies to three young lions who are going to be fucking awesome, I guarantee it. They are:
Mikami Kyosuke: Captain Workhorse
Takahashi Hiromu: The Little Charisma Engine that Can
Watanabe Takaaki: The Second Coming
These three are the future of New Japan; fuck Yujiro, forget Naito, these three are fucking stars in the making.
Here's Takaaki's debut match. Against Hiromu, who's still in his first year. They have no signatures, no bombs, barely any history between the two of them for the crowd to play on. It contains no overly impressive technical chain sequences, no dives, no flash or pizazz, not even ten minutes long...this match fucking rules.

Mikami against Takaaki, month 4 for Takaaki. Holy fuck, these guys have maybe a little over a year's worth of experience between the two of them. (Starts @ 3:30 of the video)

Mikami teams with Honma against TAKA and Taichi. This is the first match I saw featuring one of these three gentlemen, which is probably why Mikami will be my favorite of the bunch, despite Takaaki's DRAMATIC improvement since his debut indicating he's the one to look out for. (Starts @ 5:50)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcFoJssW8hI
The 3 Wunderkids take on the World's Strongest Heels Jado & Gedo....and Rocky Romero. This was Jado's return match, and the biggest any of our three youngsters have been in up to this point. (start's @ 9:10)

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIRCdvNQbSo"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIRCdvNQbSo[/ame]
None of these are ZOMG MUST SEE BARNBURNERS, but I enjoyed the hell out of them, and made me hopeful for New Japan's future after they only succeeded with Naito and to a lesser extent Yujiro. Anyone else have any thoughts?
Double post
What do we think of Daichi Hashimoto now that the initial hype and thrill have worn off?
Still good, and still like him. The current environment has made it impossible for him to reach his father's level in terms of drawing and hype, but if he keeps hanging with Ohtani he can become really good, as both a draw and a wrestler.
Great stuff, DDT. Up until recently I was watching all New Japan's big shows from beginning to end, and the opening matches featuring different combinations of the THREE WUNDERKIDS was one of the main reasons why. It's rare that rookies (semi-)fresh out of the dojo really grab your attention beyond taking a good beating from a more established vet, but all three definitely look to have something going for them. I want to get back into the swing of things with NJ and look forward to seeing them slowly (but hopefully not too slowly) develop.

Full cards for the remaining shows of New Japan’s 2011 have been announced, including the fan voted dream match show, Kojima’s 20th anniversary show, ahd the Korakuen double header around Christmas time. Naito has been removed from the main event of Kojima’s show where he was to team with FUNAKI, due to an injury he has been carrying that has forced him off shows. Singles matches between TenKoji and Bad Intentions appear to confirm suspicions that the most dominant IWGP Tag Team Champions in history, Bernard & Anderson, will face one of the most beloved tag teams in history, Tenzan & Kojima, at the Tokyo Dome. Two titles will be defended on the first Xmas show at Korakuen with Devitt making his V3 defense of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title against Rocky Romero, while in what would have once been an indie dream match, Masato Tanaka makes his V3 defense of the IWGP Intercontinental Title against Tomoaki Honma. Cards also reflect Hideo Saito being booted out of CHAOS as he goes up against members of the group.

A nice collection of smiley Kojima pics from his 20th Anniversary Show today at Korakuen. Especially cool to see the likes of Hansen, Kawada, Mutoh and Sasuke alongside him. I plan on watching his two matches from this show since tribute/anniversary matches are feel good loveliness and the post-match posing should be fun to watch.
Is that his daughter he's holding up with a shit-eating grin on his face?
Aww, good to see Hansen.
So I did watch the two Kojima matches as well as the opening segment with Hansen & Kawada and it was all lovely and heartwarming.
Would just like to take a moment to mention Umanosuke Ueda, who died yesterday at the age of 71 from respiratory failure. I still don't know too much about him, and only really became aware of his existence last year while trawling through 80's New Japan, but in doing so I grew rather fond of him. He played a surprisingly big part in the famous (and amazing) 3/26/86 NJPW vs. UWF elimination match, where at the age of 45 (basically playing the "what the fuck is that stupid old man doing here?" role) he inexplicably took out the UWF's indestructible leader Akira Maeda, sacrificing himself in the process for the sake of New Japan. Legendary moment and from what I gather, probably the highlight of his career. That whole match is really awesome with nuclear heat.
Oh and apparently he featured in Takeshi's Castle as a henchman.
http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/.../19152096.html
He also quite clearly inspired the trademark hairstyles of both Ziggler and Yano.

I'm watching :hyper:
yeah so I decided to save it until later when I've got more work done.
Also, we should so watch this in sync and have a live raw-style chat. Would be pretty great if anyone is up for it later. It is Wrestle Kingdom after all!
If other people are up for it I'd do it
Sweet
Cewsh? DDT? chot? etc.
We could arrange a time for it tonight and rendezvous in the irc or on msn!
I need a 1-to-1.75GB single link on Fileserve.com if possible. :)
No single fileserve link as far as I can tell.
It's also on youtube btw.
I assume that's EST? If so, not a problem, I'll be up late tonight.
That's three in so far. :hyper:
Yep, EST. My MSN email is reviews@gmail.com.
Added.
I could manage tonight, though tomorrow would be better for me. Earliest I can be on is nine.
Looks like something came up for me tonight too. Any chance of moving it to tomorrow?
alright then, I'm sure I can hold out another 24 hours without spoiling it. Will be worth it
Awesome.
Guaranteed i'll be on at 8 tomorrow.
MSN. Tomorrow, 8 EST. Anyone welcome.
WRESTLE KINGDOM VI.
!!!!!!!
That is the same time Smackdown is on. Let's try to trick the Smackdown people into watching this with us.
The commentary will be better, at the very least.
You know they may have actually drawn 30,000 for this show
I'm watching Smackdown early to join up with you guys to watch this. It'd be much better to watch this with a group, anyway.
Looking forward to it. Guessing Defrost is the only one who RUINED IT for himself by reading the spoilers/watching it already?
MSN addresses, DDT and Psycho?

And as far as I know, yes: Defrost is the only one who spoiled it for himself.
WAIT I'VE JUST SEEN THIS! So in 11-ish hours?? Awesome. Also here are the individual matches (via Seabs) if people would prefer.

fair enough.
thanks defrost. id rep you but i think you're an asshole.
love ya
Yeah, you never have any idea when the main event on a big Japanese show is going to end, because there's half an hour of posing and press conferences.
puro is something ive just struggled to get into, think its to do with the commentry. is this a good place to try again?
As good a place as any
Yeah. If you come to the chat it'll be easier too, because people will be able to tell you what in the shit is going on. Something I struggle with at times too.
what time are yous doing a chat at?
Also, starting here is basically like watching the year's Wrestlemania to get into WWE. Its really the best of what they have to offer.
And 8 EST on MSN.
Probably the best place if you want to get into current stuff, but I couldn't really get into it either until I started watching classic stuff from the 90's. That's what did it for me I guess.
8 est = 1am gmt?
Yeah mate
Yep.
might join yous. got work tomorrow though.
Fuck I'm gonna be late, but I'll be around. We're doing this over MSN?
That is what I have been led to believe
That is the plan.
Don't be too late chot! It's late :(

why are japan even remotey interested in karl anderson and giant bernard? i'm i missing something was this match not great or are they overrated?
enjoy lads.

Wrestle Kingdom chat was the greatest thing ever.
I just found out the whole event was uploaded onto a site that I go to that regularly has most of the major wrestling events, weeklies, and other random wrestling videos.
I don't know why I didn't think to check there before I had all those video issues.
So I'm thinking Tanahashi doesn't lose the title until May at the earliest. His next defense is Okada and that is not happening. March has no title match since that is the New Japan Cup tour and the tour ending main event is the tournament final. Then the winner gets the April shot in Korakuen Hall and I seriously doubt they end a year plus long title reign in a 2000 seat building.
That leaves Wrestling Dontaku, which the way they book is either the 2nd or 3rd most important IWGP title match of the year, in May.
Sounds plausible, but who takes it from him?
Not Naito, Okada is laughable, and Goto will either have his hands full with the IC title OR will be coming off of a loss to Masato Tanaka.
Nakamura is the only one I see in a position to do it.
Makabe maybe. They have to have a Tanahashi vs Makabe main event at some point.
Is Makabe that good and worth it though? I haven't really seen much of his work other than a match against MVP and that WK match. I don't dislike him...but you guys have any matches to prove he's world title material?
He has been IWGP Champion. Held it 6 months until he lost to Kojima and Kojima dropped it to Tanahashi to start this reign
As for good Makabe matches watch anything with him against Nagata or Nakamura
He had a fantastic bout against AKIRA back when he was still a junior. And he was Mr. Heel when he invaded NOAH. There's lots of good Makabe matches out there, just none against the Dudleys.
I'd LOVE a short Giant Bernard reign, but I know this has looked less and less likely over the years. You'd think he's proven himself loyal enough to kill any fears of a Lesnar repeat, but he's just not been booked as this mega dominant gaijin powerhouse. Still, I'd enjoy it.
There really aren't many options outside Makabe if they don't change things up. Really hope Tenzan's resurgence continues injury free throughout 2012.
When is Nakanishi back again?
