That's sad, because I dig Vinnie. I'm a mark for the "Horror King" thing when he used to loose balloons from under the ring like Pennywise from IT.

Hopefully things change for the better now that Marty Scurll is the head booker
If they were willing to do this for him, it does make me puzzled as to how far this idea went down the pike for the EVPs of AEW before AEW was a thing. Maybe they weren't interested at all. If they didn't offer it at all to them and decided to do it now...that's...weird.
I doubt we'll ever know what exactly happened there. You have three sides there between the Elite, ROH, and NJPW. The first crew sans Cody won't stop spinning conspiracy theories to Meltzer, the second crew are delusional, and the third crew haven't and will never talk on the subject.
Right. That's why I wonder if The Elite were really interested if the proposition was actually broached to them. Something makes me think that if ROH offered it at some point, it would have been leaked (to the detriment of ROH, so leaked by The Elite).
If it wasn't offered to them but was to Scurll, it reeks of desperation.
lol i hadnt heard that one. what was the deal there
Omega told Meltzer that he was stopped by customs when he flew over to Japan, and said the customs agent told him that.
Harold had to come out and be like not only did they not do that, but they didn't even have the power to if they wanted to.
People who work on visas in Japan say the most likely thing is once Omega did that interview in Tokyo Sports quitting the promotion New Japan pulled their sponsorship of his visa and he tried to enter the country with it anyway and that's what got him in trouble.
So Scurll is head booker? ROH basically need to part the cheeks and work with whoever they can at this point, right? ROH, NWA and TNA becoming their own territory system with NOAH thrown in is the play. Keep talent fluid, there's enough there in the 3 companies to work with.
Just to be clear Defrost, The guys that left NJPW are conspiracists or delusional? :chin:
They're bringing back the Pure Title
March 14th we'll see the return of XAVIER. The dude has been retired since 2011 and has accepted Jay Lethal's challenge. I was never a big Xavier fan but I only saw a handful of his matches. The love he gets, hit or miss. It'll be interesting to see if Xavier still has what it takes.
Xavier? Really?
I mean, he was aight. But why?
Something about Jay Lethal being on this crusade to beat ROH "Legends". He's defeated guys like AJ Styles, Daniels, Low Ki, etc. but Xavier I guess being the 1st or 2nd champ was high on his list as well. Still odd....Like I said it never seemed like I read too many fanboys of Xavier. Shit even in the EWR game he had like a 55 overall lol.
Yeah, his status as a "legend" is very circumstantial. I was always confused by the choice to have him beat Low-Ki, especially when you had Christopher Daniels right there.

And then Samoa Joe took him out right around the corner and basically made ROH. He's such a footnote.
My fantasy Ring Of Honor Card:
PCO vs. Jeff Cobb for the World Title
Bandido vs. Dalton Castle for the TV Title
The Villain vs. RUSH
Lethal & Gresham vs. Dragon Lee & Kenny King for the Tag Titles
Flip Gordon & Brody King vs. The Briscoes
Glad I got that out
I guess I should have clarified, this is if I had to book the show Right Now with the Current Roster and Champions.
Had no idea ROH DVDs were still sought after. I've got 3 on e-Bay and bids are actually in.
I have the Death Before Dishonor DVD with that wild ROH v. CZW cage of death match. I like this DVD because they recap the build of the feud so you get to see a bunch of wild shit. I only remember reading about the feud, didn't get to see anything until about 6 years ago. First ROH DVD I ever ordered.
It’s a great match, that. The whole feud is right up there as possibly even my favourite in wrestling. It was brilliant.
Everything about it was great. Jim Cornette was a fucking goldmine during that build. Chris Hero, omg, if people aren't sold on that guy today that's alright because he was a gem once upon a time. That guy had all the potential in the world to be a top tier player in a major promotion. Just so many awesome moments and it felt REAL. It felt like what it was, a straight up wrestling promotion taking issue with a local rival that was all about razorwire and death spots. I think that's why Corny was the perfect "authority figure" type. He hated that CZW shit for real and they hated him even more lol.
The stretch from Manhattan Mayhem in 2005 to Glory By Honor in 2006 was fucking outstanding. Summer of Punk, ROH vs. CZW and the Bryan, Nigel and Aries/Strong simultaneous domination of the three divisions. Then in terms of matches, Joe vs. Kobashi, Bryan vs. Nigel, Bryan vs. KENTA and Cage of Death and the famous Dragon Gate 6 man were all different and spectacular. The stuff that they managed to do in 16 months, for an independent, crazy. I'll probably get the streaming service for a couple of months if they upload that era, so great.
And nearly 15 fucking years ago! Where does the time go?
I’m so glad I have 95% of that stretch on DVD.
And such a great point about that being the perfect use of Cornette.
i was excited when i heard that but then i realized all the music will have to be changed. copyrights are evil
Surely Europe and Beanie Sigel would give up the loot for peanuts.
Just read on the front page, Flamita - Never saw the guy wrestle, but he sounds like an excellent Tex-Mex restaurant - Injured himself in a match at Free Enterprise, ROH's last show, and he'll be out for an indeterminate period of time. He'll be replaced by PJ Black in select matches.
RUSH regained the ROH World championship over the weekend.
4 months longer than he or anyone else ever thought he'd have. I was just watching the guy on WCW doing the job to Harlem Heat. 25 years later he's the fucking world champion. What is wrong with wrestling today in America?
Lesnar, Goldberg are the WWE champions. Jericho was the AEW champ. PCO was the ROH champ. 3 of the 4 in their 50's. Tessa Blanchard as ROH champion. After Saturday it seems like we're making some better booking choices but still lol. Fuckin old timers and Tessa lol.
Oh I like the gimmick, but as a top champion, even in ROH just felt odd. Looking at their roster, I'm not exactly sure who I'd be high on seeing him wrestle because 90% of these people are completely unknown to me. I think 4 months was a good run for a guy at this stage in his career.
I still think Dalton Castle could bring this company up. He had a back injury while champ so it was unfortunate how little he was able to do. But I mean shit, he's someone who could go to a bigger promotion like WWE or AEW and knock it out the park still.
i don't see it at all. he seems like a role player at best. never saw anything special besides his gimmick when he first came to prominence
I just think if he wasn't injured the entire time he was champion it would have helped and with how weak the roster is right now, he would be a guy I'd be putting in the main event. I'm a huge fan of his though and while I have to admit when he first came in, that first year especially the Silas feud was pretty awesome. It's just that since he lost the title he's been somewhat of a non-factor and I'm not sure why.
silas is a guy i enjoy. loved his heel gimmick. would love to seem him somewhere else. maybe as the butcher's deflated brother in AEW
RIP Xavier. Just read he's passed.
Shame he didn't get to return to ROH for the Past vs. Present event against Jay Lethal.
Just after I was rediscovering his awesomeness. RIP Xavier
Re-boot show was fantastic. New music, new look, and lots of video packages to get you into the Pure title tournament. Lethal/Castle and Gresham/Yuta we’re both great matches to start with too to showcase what the Pure style is all about.
I haven’t recommending watching ROH to anyone in a long time, but I def recommend watching this.
I'm having a hard time with how ROH books Dalton Castle. Jobs again. I knew he was losing when they had him facing Lethal in the first round. The only 2 former World champions and they have them in round 1? Terrible.
It's a tournament with some solid talent in it though. I'll definitely check it out.
Castle has redemption with RUSH for the World Title
Edit
I'm watching Best In The World after not seeing any ROH in years and years.
PJ Black looks nothing like his old Justin Gabriel character, he has braided hair and a gray beard. The guy that was with him can talk.
The first time I saw The Briscoes was All In and I really hoped they would get signed to AEW, they're still good.
Shane Taylor Promotions is awesome. I think it was Kaun that did a great cannonball from the apron and landed on his feet. Crazy agile or such a big guy.
EC3 match was okay. It's weird seeing Flip Gordon as a heel when I still remember him from All In, too.
Brody King looks like he has tattoos because he's out of shape or maybe he's just out of shape because of the pandemic. Jay Lethals still got it after however many years.
Johnathan Gresham has a weird mask he wears to the ring, an octopus? Yep, an octopus.
This match has a limit of 3 rope breaks and is for the Pure title. I'm guessing the Pure title is more about technical wrestling and submissions than say the X-Division title is about high flying and cool spots.
Dragon Lee vs Tony Deppen was good. Tony hit a really nice destroyer through the ropes which the kind of thing I expected from Dragon Lee.
Homicide and Dickinson vs Gresham (pulling double duty) and a guy who's name I didn't catch. It was a fight without honor (hardcore match) match. It was an ok match. There was a cool razors edge onto a table spot.
Chelsea Green is going to be apart of the Women of Honor tournament, I think. She wasn't cleared to wrestle tonight and it was kind of unclear when she will be able to. She seems to think it will be in a month.
Bandido vs Rush
I've heard of Bandido, never heard of Rush, I thought it was "Roush" from how it was pronounced in the intro. I guess it is pronounced that way but spelled Rush. Wasn't a fan of the finish of the match.
Just realized I didn't see the Danhausen match so now I'm watching the preshowhausen.
Rey Horus vs Demonic Flaminta
Good match. Feeling a little wrestling'd out at this point I think though.
The Righteous led by Vincent - seems like Bray Wyatt from Wish beat up Matt Taven.
Danhausen and PCO vs The Bouncers
Combined weight of PCO and Danhausen :Probably 234lbs
These bouncer guys are huge. The shirtless one has a bigger belly than Samoa Joe or Keith Lee. PCO looks like Raven. Danhausen tried to do the very nice very kneevil (GTS) but it seemed like the bruiser was just too heavy. He picked him up again and did manage an attitude adjustment.
Danhausen is my favorite part of ROH.
Damn that was the first time you saw The Briscoes?
I believe Jay Briscoe tweeting something about killing anyone who tries to teach his kids certain subjects about gays and POC with his shotgun derailed any chance he himself had in a company the size of WWE or AEW.
Gresham calls himself the octopus because of his submission style. He’s awesome.
pure title has my favorite rules in wrestling. I love they ROH revived the pure division
I loved that they found John Walter out of the fucking blue and put him in the tournament.
Watching ROH is tough. They were already struggling with crowds like Impact and sadly I've never really seen an ROH show that didn't look like maybe 100 people were there. I think one of those New Japan v. ROH cards in Canada (could be wrong about the location) had a good turnout.
I gave up on ROH for the most part when 2 things happened: Too much Adam Cole and too little Dalton Castle. DC should have left ROH years ago and now he is a shell with a bad back.
roh fucking fell apart after the MSG show and all the big names leaving for AEW. I dont know what more they can do to bring back fans.
Appreciate the exposure.
Maybe we'll start seeing more talent cycle through there that have more of a name/buzz
They could cut out the ROH school kids (all the guys who seem like ROH school kids - who wants to see Dak Draper?) and sign actual great indie guys like Daniel Makabe, Adam Priest, Matt Makowski, and Slim J.
Tag teams like Violence is Forever, the Jollyville Fuck-Its, and To Infinity and Beyond belong in ROH.
Tom Lawlor should win the ROH title his first match in, if it ever happens.
I say get rid of Dalton Castle and Silas Young. They would fair well elsewhere.
And bring in L.A. Park while they've got Rush.
I hears Chris Hero was backstage, so who knows, things could change.
Maybe MLW pays too much. Maybe that's what's wrong with ROH.
Hoping Ring of Honor can sign Bobby Fish, Big Damo, and Tyler Rust
According to ring of honor, they will be taking a break after final battle and will spend Q1 of 2022 reorganizing the business.
Probably gonna cut a lot of contracts and move to more of a free agency going forward
According to Dave, ROH has released everyone from their contract
So yeah, just wait for TK to snatch everyone up haha
SRS says everyone’s contract will expire 12/31
Happy New Yearhausen.
Very interestinghausen.
Hopefully TK can buy the All In footage at the very least
Just in case anyone was curious what was posted.
This is wild. Curious to see what happens next.
ROH on Fite has been one of my guilty pleasures lately.
I mentioned before, But I do wonder at what point they stop hoovering up everybody, Didn't really work with NXT as they ended up releasing a lot of folks, And with WCW there were a lot of guys just sat on their ass maybe working Saturday Night or Worldwide once a month.
Outside of women, I don’t really want AEW signing anyone who isn’t Kevin Steen or Sami zayn
Alvarez says they can work everywhere immediately. I guess they just still have to fulfill their obligations to ROH for final battle.
That'd be crazy if TK got a deal done today for anyone. I don't know who's near Boston right now.
Maybe Jon Gresham only because he’s absurdly fun to watch and can wrestle anybody on earth and have a good match
Crazy that three years ago they had the crossover with NJPW while they were at the peak of their powers, and The Elite on most of the shows. AEW absolutely butchered them, particularly when they'd already booked MSG. They looked bush league compared to NJPW that night and never really recovered from it. If AEW comes even 3 months later and they get to blow everything off in the Garden at least, maybe things go differently.
I'd rather everybody just float. Guaranteed contracts are cool and all, but the core guys can surely pick their spots with Impact, GCW and the like. Maybe you pick up a Gresham or Rush if you're AEW and build them on Dark while the roster rotates. Maybe Briscoes and Lethal for short stints. Keeps it fresh anyway.
I don’t see briscoes signing anywhere, honestly. Wrestling is their part time gig, that’s why they barely work outside of ROH. Their chicken farm apparently does pretty well.
According to SRS, Sinclair are the ones who decided to pull the plug. Several talent found out about their release on Twitter. A new ROH show will start in April, but there’s no word on what that will.
I don’t see it coming back, being completely honest.
A lot of people seem sad but I think there's enough places to go that just about everyone will be ok.
Losing your job two months before Christmas sucks.
are there really many places to go? AEW and WWE will pay well, but impact? Mlw? Not the biggest options. NXT turning into 2.0 really nuked a lot of options too.
Japan isn’t taking people in due to covid restrictions.
Mexico isn’t in a great place financially to support this many people.
Right but then they’ve got no job after. You’re not gonna be able to enjoy the holidays when you’re worrying about your next payday
Yeah I don't know. Like some of the top line guys will be fine. The Lucha Guys and the NJPW Strong guys already have other gigs. GCW is already booking guys. GCW is going occupy the hole being created here. But this is not a good day for wrestling.
Never really a huge ROH follower tbh but still shocking to see this news flash up on my FB feed. Hope the guys affected do get sorted out with employment.
Hope Cactus Lem at least follows AEW now and throws his water bottles at Danielson then (sorry joke never gets old).
Sinclair ROH library is officially for sale. That's everything from 2012-onward and includes All In. I believe Cary Silikin owns the footage from 02-11.
Cary Silkin used to John Belushi's coke dealer btw
WWE needs to get that shit asap before some other idiot does and botches the usage.
Brother, I’ve never even smoked weed. Don’t ask me why anyone does drugs, haha.
Brody King has tweeted a photo of himself standing in front of a black house. Malakai replied with "First of the Foundation". Looks like he'll be joining AEW alongside Black. Apparently they've already been teaming up at various shows. Tbh Brody King was the first name I thought of when I read the news about ROH. I think he'd be a good fit alongside Malakai. As many are saying, the Butcher and the Blade joining them would be cool as well.
They just won the pwg tag titles together so it makes sense
