It wasn’t a bad first game.
But the real game is on now. Roughnecks all the way babay!
In all seriousness, there were quite a few things I liked. The points after TD attempts are fun. Being able to hear coaches and being brought in on time outs are cool. But the best thing they got going is the kickoffs. I think that setup is gold.
everyone's known wrestling is fake for centuries. people still think this is real, so it gives him a chance to do it the way it was meant to be done, duplicitously.
Got to go with Sea Dragons. It's the worst name ever. I love it. Always abbrveviate Seattle that way.
Oh yeah totally agree. Very smart to just get out there and say "look. This isn't ever going to be the NFL. But it's football."
Trying to be a Vipers fan is real hard with them keeping Aaron Murray in.
So basically, even in the xfl, Tampa Bay sucks.
Replay judge using a game controller (Xbox) is both the most amusing and the most relative thing I can think of.
Damn, I forgot McAfee was doing some reporting for XFL.
Love that guy. National treasure.
Marquette King not being on an NFL roster is an absolute crime.
I turned a game on now on demand. Loving it so far.
4 million viewers for the debut sat noon game. The AAF had 2.9 mil for their first game which was on in prime time. They have to be happy but of course its about what kind of audience they can maintain.
Wasn't it getting a bit like that the last time, in 2001? I don't mean fixed games, but I thought it all got a bit 'WWE-like' after the initial big rating and the original XFL died a slow death.
That may be all in my head though.
I see that BT Sport have picked this up in the UK. No great surprise, with their recent acquisition of WWE shows.
I noticed that last night, Didn't catch it as I was watching PSG/Lyon, Using my bros account is awesome, The trade off is I pay for Disney + when it launches here.
I love having the BT App through the PS4. No fiddling about with the Ipad and casting to the TV like I was doing for that and the Network.
Even better that I don't pay for it either.
They use our Netflix, so all good.
Well the Network is on Ps4 as well lol.
I know. My lad discovered that recently. Had it on every day after school when not busy with homework etc. He wanted it on the other day and there were actual tears over the fact we don't have it anymore.
So over the weekend, he's been helping me to arrange all the physical copies I have of all 'Big 5' PPVs. All of them from the first 'Mania to SummerSlam '15, with a few selected ones after this date.
This should keep him happy for a bit. Especially as he can still watch Raw and Smackdown if he wants and he likes AEW now too, which I put on on Sunday mornings.
Awesome stuff.
Pluses: Kickoffs and punts... brilliant move with that setup. You watching NFL?
Replays: Not one replay ran more than what 60 seconds? (at least I can't think of any)
Microphones: As a Battlehawk guy (finally , I'm rooting for a hometown St. Louis team), Loved when the coach was yeling at his own player to 'get over here' to get him off the field when he was trash talking.
PATs: Pay attention NFL, that's how it should be done
Bad: SPOT THE BALL QUICKER REFS!! (I'm hoping that was just their college ref'ing style where they forgot to speed it up) What good is a 25 second clock, when it takes you 15 seconds to spot the ball, then what's the point of a 25 second clock. How many times were the players there before the refs to wait for the ball?
Waiting to see: LIve interviews during the game. Looked good in theory, asking a player what went wrong/right on a bad/good play, but I can see that coming back to be a FCC thing at some point.
Oliver Luck knows what he's doing... I see this version of the XFL lasting awhile if they don't screw it up.
During the original XFL run, they had one of their interview guys (or maybe a ref?) get clonked on the head and, just before sneaking into the cheerleader's locker room to interview them, pass out, and we got to see, via B-roll/a pre-produced video package segment, his elaborate sexual wet dreams about what he thought the cheerleaders got up to in their changing quarters.
It was fucking stupid.

Slightly different order of events, but this is what I was talking about.
That's generally better than NBA action on Turner or and is on par with ESPN on Friday nights. If they can maintain that viewership or even grow on it, Vince is going to be making some money in a couple of years.
McAfee is a guy that can resonate with the audience they're trying to capture too.
Going into half time they asked McGloin what they needed to do at half and he said "change the entire gameplan."
LoL, just throws the coaching staff under the bus.
they're running angles
https://sportsnaut.com/2020/02/xfl-q...or-awful-game/
I dont think that is the case at all.
I don't watch football. Real sports have always been pretty boring to me. But I'm curious what's different about the XFL that has people hyped for it?
Nothing. It's just more football and we like football. If you don't follow the NFL there is nothing here that would make you like football or sports in general. I don't think.
DC seem to just have better players than everyone else. Their guys are fast, athletic, have good hands, get their feet down, just generally better at everything and feel better prepared than everyone else.
LA/Dallas
Here you take the ball.
No YOU take it.
I dont want it. YOU take it.
No I insist. YOU take the ball.
Everyone should have known the qb play in this league would be abysmal more often than not..
Betting the under in most of these games is a good idea.

Seems like the numbers are holding up well enough. They need more competitive games though. It's tough to watch all of any sporting event that's basically over a third of the way in.Quote:
According to Jake Russell of The Washington Post, Saturday's game featuring the New York Guardians at the D.C. Defenders drew an average audience of 2.127 million viewers. It was down 35.5% from last Saturday's game on ABC, which averaged 3.3 million viewers.
ABC's game on Sunday featuring the Dallas Renegades at the L.A. Wildcats garnered 2.397 million viewers, down only 4% from 2.495 million viewers the previous week, however last week's game aired on ESPN and not on ABC.
ABC averaged 2.26 million viewers between the two games. The AAF saw a much steeper 65% drop from week one to week two, however the AAF aired on national television on CBS in its first week, compared to TNT and the NFL Network in its second.
The original XFL in 2001 fell 52% from week one to week two on NBC.
The ratings for the weekend's XFL games on FOX are not yet available.
Wasnt there just 1 blow out this weekend?
27-0
17-9
25-18
28-24
3 one score games.
I’ll be watching again this weekend. Last weekend i was busy but I’ll be back into it starting Saturday.
Im not really to bet on the XFL yet, but my degeneracy says give it time.
My buddy DVR'd the Vipers v. Guardians game. We watched the first 20-30 minutes. Not bad.
I have watched a fair amount and honestly it is not bad football. It is what it is as far as talent goes but still good football and probably will just get better.
They're presumably getting college players who don't make the cut for the NFL, right? So the standard of college football is pretty decent, presumably it can't be any worse than that? Or am I being naive?
The problem that some are pointing to is QB play. Offenses have struggled at times to move the ball. The depth of the defensive positions is much greater than at QB so the left overs for the XFL on defense are ahead of most of the QBs. RIght now there have been 3 solid QBs.
It is a mix of college players that didn't make it or players that did get there at first and then got cut or maybe were in the NFL for longer and for some reason no longer there. The punter for St. Louis was in the NFL for several seasons and probably will be back later. Definitely been some trouble moving the ball at times but I think that will get better over time.
I think it's a mixed bag. Most of the players I remember looking up while watching had some NFL experience but it seemed quite a few never saw real regular or even pre-season action.
It's like when Baron Corbin talks about how he played in the NFL. Well, he never played an actual game but he was on like 7 teams. At least some of these players have seen real action.
This brand of football will only get better if it survives multiple seasons. I am enjoying watching DC and Houston.
As an alumnus of a MAC school, I have been just as entertained watching a MAC game as much as any Big 10 game I've seen.
First half of HOU/Tampa has been very entertaining.
The whole game has been perfect to have on in the background as I grade.
Houston/Tampa was a fun game right down to the last Tampa possesion. I found myself rooting so hard for them to get a win.
This St. Louis/NY game is a fucking ass whooping. Also the STL field and crowd make this feel more like an NFL game than anything I've seen so far.
Wow.
Just wow.
LA kicking the living shit out of DC.
I would have thought being a naive foreigner that places like St Louis are the potential big wins here. They lost their NFL team right? Same with Oakland.
Maybe that makes it feel more of a provincial thing I dunno but there's good large sized markets who don't have an immediately close team. Maybe Orlando as well? Though they may have got one the last time.
DC will bounce back.
Those games were fun as hell to watch today. Saint Louis's quarterback is getting better each week with more experience and I think the product as a whole will get better with each week. Excited to see Dallas and Houston tomorrow.
DC looked good first 2 weeks. Look like a hot mess the last 2 weeks.
St. Louis is looking better and better. Only loss is to the undefeated team and that was only by 4. Still need more work for sure but I think that can be said for a lot of the teams as they figure things out.
The crowds look great on tv for the home games. I need to get down there for a game this season.
KaKaw!!!!
St Louis has to be the happiest city to get football back. I feel for them.
Nice to have a team here for sure and city wanted it. Easy to tell by the crowds.
Lost our quarterback to the Chiefs. Good for him to get another shot at the NFL. He can always come back here if it doesn't work out. Trying to convince my wife to let me buy some merchandise while there is a flash sale going on on the XFL site.
Breaking: The XFL suspended operations Friday morning and laid off nearly all of its staff. The league currently has no plans to return in 2021.
So that's from the Sportscenter twitter. I'm a bit confused if this is just a shutdown for the year (which would make sense), or if they're shutting down permanently. That last line is unexpected. I figured they would be back in 2021. Maybe that's just semantics, as in they don't have any plans currently as they wait for this to play out. But people like Darren Rovell on twitter are acting like that's the end of the league.
I never thought it stood a real chance, but it's a damn shame it had to end like this..
I hate to see it end this way. Ratings and attendance were really good across the board. People were into it. I don't think there was any concern of it shutting down. Just terrible timing with the lockdowns. I really hope they try to give it another go though. :(
Oliver Luck is suing Vince McMahon for wrongful termination.
The Athletic is reporting that there seems to be indications that creditors think McMahon is trying to secretly buy back the XFL. Re-establishing a league, setting it up for bankruptcy only to buy it back at a much reduced rate (DURING A PANDEMIC no less) is a pretty McMahon-like move.
If it brings this year's version of the XFL back, I am fine with it. It was fun to watch damnit.
Looks like The Rock is gonna make the XFL his real life Ballers.
Vince is probably pretty stoked.
I wonder how much money Vince lost on this
Is $15 million the total sale, or is that just what The Rock is contributing?
15 mil is the total sale
Glad to see that the Rock and others bought it to keep it alive.
Oh wow. I would imagine Vince lost tens of millions easily. Didn't he sell a bunch of WWE stock to invest in this?
In any event, it’s cool that the league is alive and planning to play in 2021. How funny would it be if the XFL goes on to get its footing and become a financially viable minor league football league for 10+ years and Vince isn’t a part of it? (But The Rock is). LOL. The Rock is a far more likable co-owner/spokesperson so I’m all for it.

XFL is pushed back to 2023. Talking about partnering with the CFL is interesting.
@MTR this may impact RajahMeet Midwest.
Boo! I want football in St. Louis.
Well we can always figure out something. We can catch a Cards game or Blues game at some point or wait for a wrestling event. AEW is coming to St. Louis in November.
I’m coming if there is BBQ involved.
Damn, I wanted to go to a Battlehawks game.
....they're not going to give you any bbq caito
I know ……. :\
@Badger will probably give you some haggis.
Plus its an AEW show, so it'll be easy to good sets. At least one of us will probably be invited backstage to workshop one of Cody's promos with him.
I assume this is how all AEW shows go.
Maybe if bots didn't buy up all of the tickets.
Here is where things stand on tickets: https://www.ticketmaster.com/aew-pre...005836C5D88767
Just actually saw this. AEW Full Gear is in St. Louis. So the link above is for a TNT taping on Friday Nov. 5 and then Full Gear is Nov. 6th. Tickets not on sale yet for that
That's not bad at all. I've got family coming in town fall, but I think that's going to be the end of October. I should have that locked down in the next 2 weeks.
Friday wouldn't be the greatest for me. Definitely a pto day but not undoable.
I think most of us (except for MTR) would end up taking some time off. Saturday might allow for the easiest travel days.
Time for a thread.
