Canibus isn't that poetical though. Just highly intelligent.
Aesop Rock is more of a poet, if you are looking for an example.

There are different types of poetry, Aesop Rock is no more a poet than Canibus is.
He isn't that much smarter than too many other rapper either, it's his vocabulary and the way he writes his rhymes that I look at. He's the man
Big L is also the man, "Ebonics" is definately my favourite track right now.

Meh, he isn't THAT poetical. The most poetical he has ever been has probably been on something like Liberal Arts or Get Off Ya Knees. And yes, he is very intelligent. Far more so than most rappers. If you read the Jeymes Samuel interview and the story that he shared about Germaine telling him all about Minkovski's formulas at 2 in the morning and then putting it in his WWTS verse the next day, you know he is more intelligent than your average rapper.
But overly poetical? Not really. :\
-------------
Anyways, kind of switching subjects (and kind of not, since thinking of Canibus reminded me of him)...
What "legend" in hip hop can't you stand or have always thought was very overrated. In my view, it is Kool G Rap. He is just horrid. His rhyme schemes are beyond basic and if anyone just writes down a bunch of words that rhyme and then puts a few matching words before them it is him. And that is where Vinnie Paz got that strategy from. Awful.

What "legend" in hip hop can't you stand or have always thought was very overrated.
LL Cool J, I don't care how good everyone else thinks/thought he was but even back in the "Mama Said Knock You Out" days he wasn't a great rapper, and to be honest he's never done anything but blunt his edge since he started making tv appearances.
Big Pun, Never got into his style. Maybe it's the carnival tunes I dislike, maybe it's that I haven't heard any of his better music. But right now I feel like he's overrated.
Easy E, I just never liked his voice or the way he flowed. His voice is too piercing for a male vocalist and I'm not a fan of his solo stuff, partly because I've avoided pretty uch everything he ever sang on outside N.W.A
The Beastie Boys, I got really bored of fighting for my right to party...
I dig the boiler suits and big yellow boots in amongst foam skyscrapers though, that was a good video and the tune was cool.

Well, I just got word from someone in the Canibus circle that Bis is trying really hard to get his solo album out this year. He also wants to get the album with Chino XL and Thurstin Howl completed, so look for those two projects to be the first things released.
Also, the Jeymes Samuel album is coming out in September with WWTS on it. The Urbs (Jeymes/Canibus collab album) should be coming out shortly after that, but I am not sure if it will make it by the end of the year or not.

And that is where Vinnie Paz got that strategy from. Awful.I'd agree, Canibus isn't poetic, he's just clever...he has intelligent rhymes, but there's nothing hugely creative about the stories he tells. Not to downplay his ability, he isn't a storyteller rapper. 2pac wasn't half as intelligent or as good with language as Canibus, but he had a way with words and ideas that he could turn into a poetic story, it's that ability that has him down as one of the best ever in many people's eyes - his lyricism and delivery were never anything special, but he could tell a damn story and get his point across in a poetic way.
Legends I hate?
Well I wouldn't say I hate them, but Dre and Snoop were never anything special in my eyes, but everyone used to crap themselves over their latest releases. I've never fully understood the big deal about Redman - I rate him, but he's not on the level of the true greats. Same with Jadakiss, and Method Man as well...I don't hate any of these, but I think they're overrated to varying degrees.
Sean, MSKYO and Radio are great albums, real hip-hop and justifiably made LL Cool J into a huge star...it's his releases since the mid-90s that have taken him down in my estimation.

Not to downplay his ability, he isn't a storyteller rapper.
He can tell a story, listen to No Return.
I think you're wrong when you say he's twice as as smart as Pac, you can't judge intelligence through hip hop vocabulary.

He can tell a story, listen to No Return.
I think you're wrong when you say he's twice as as smart as Pac, you can't judge intelligence through hip hop vocabulary. One story doesn't make him a storyteller...Eminem tells stories in some songs (My Fault, Bad Guys Always Die, '97 Bonnie And Clyde), but that's not what he's known for, same as Canibus isn't known for them. Canibus always has been and always will be a battle rapper - it's what got him known, and (IMO) all he'll ever be good for.
QuietStorm
July 2nd, 2004, 3:30 PM
Ok, once again...Canibus is great at creating a CONCEPT for a track (I Honor You, AIDS Is Gold/HIV Is Platinum, No Return, etc.) but he is still isn't that great of a storyteller.
But Simon, he is so much more than a battle MC. Sometimes you just have to listen deeper.

NEW TUPAC ALBUM INFO!!
Afeni Shakur (his mom) just recently gave an interview in which she stated that the new album is due out in November, and that some of the guest producers on the album will be Dr. Dre, Kanye West and Eminem.
Also, Deathrow is putting out a "LIVE" 2pac album, with some unreleased tracks expected to be on the tracklist as well, but the majority of the cd will be known songs being performed live with alternate beats and unheard verses.
Sounds great to me!

I've heard almost nothing of 2pac live, other than THAT live M.S.G. freestyle with Biggie (possibly my single favourite track from either artist, there's something about hearing them spit live that just makes it even better), and a terrible rendition of Dear Mama where he fucks up and delivers the wrong line at the start, rapping the start of the 3rd verse instead of the 2nd.

Alright, as you can tell, I am not a big fan of the "hip hop"
I may have a 50 pic in my avatar and shit, but that was for that whole game thing and I am lazy.

The album is great, yeah...a couple of weak tracks IMO, but mostly it's great. We all knew that the production would be great, but he surprised me with how well he held down the lyrics. Not completely astounding by any means, but he proved himself to be a capable MC, and managed to put out a whole album that doesn't get boring or samey.

Living in the hole, lookin' at the world through a crack
But fuck that, I'd rather shoot it out and get clapped

QUOTE I know too much to government is trying to murder me
No coming back like cutting your wrists open vertically
How could the serpant be purposely put in charge of the country

Immortal Technique is treason to the patriot act
So come and get me mother fucker cause I'm not coming back
The serpant is a reference to Bush and everyone should know about the Patriot Act.

This is the point from which I could never return
And if I back down now then forever I'll burn
This is the point from which I could never retreat
Cause If I turn back now there can never be peace

[Verse 2]
QUOTE This is the point of no return nigga you better believe this

^ Awesome lyrics
A suicide bomber strapped and ready to blow
Lethal injection strapped down ready to go
This reminded me of one of my own lines..."There's a thin line between right and wrong/ Like a suicide bomb/ Going off saying that they'll die for God/"...Not really related, but it just reminded me of it.
I downloaded Masta Killa's album over the weekend and it's dope as hell. Raekwon and GZA have awesome guest verses. The only problem is I downloaded a song labeled as "Secret Rivals" (someone must hook me up with the real version of this track), but there is no Meth or Priest on it. It's a Masta Killa verse played twice over a pretty sick guitar beat. It opens as..."Intruder alert, sound the cymbal/ this is the war of the Shaolin temple/"...any help?

Expect to hear Nottz' sounds on Dr. Dre's upcoming project as well as material for Jill Scott's highly anticipated release. Nottz is also working on tracks for Busta Rhymes and Stat Quo's Aftermath debut. He will also contribute tracks for Canibus' next LP as well as a collaborative release with Royce 5'9''. DMP's debut is slated for a September 2004 street date and is produced in its entirety by Nottz and will feature high-profile collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Cee-Lo, and Bilal. Nottz also did a track with Cormega for Legal Hustle Vol. 1, that didn't make it.

Well, Bis has been in the studio with this Nottz guy a lot over the last couple months. Rumor is the production is going to be very Dre-like on this album. Here is a look at his previous works.

Yeah, I plan on finally picking up No Said Date this week. Its on sale at Best Buy for like 9.99 I think. By the end of my planned shopping spree, I'll own that and a badass Bowie poster. Awww yeah.
Oh, and about No Said Date, where would all of you that own it rate it? Is it better than, say, Tical? Better than Ironman?

So yeah, the Infinite Spectrum EP is great. Tracks 2, 3, 4, and 10 are simply awesome car tracks. It is almost perfect, though I don't really like the subject matter on track 6. But his flow on the track is nasty. Very fast.
He also wrote me a little note on the back of the promo flyer for the Ghostface Killah concert he was opening:
"Nathan -
Good looks on the support. I appreciate it. If you feel the music, please play it for your friends. Peace!"
Then he autographs it at the bottom. Pretty nice little piece of memorabilia to save.
Anyways, here is a little interview he did with cellarnoise.com a while before Infinite Spectrum came out. He had only recorded two tracks at the time so it is probably from late last year or early 2004 would be my guess.
And yes, he got sucker-punched by Vinnie Paz. Seems like it is all anyone remembers. I thought about getting the t-shirt on his site commemorating the event.
----------------------------------------
http://www.cellarnoise.com/images/icon-phone.gifAmong the many there awaits a king. Not just any king ruling a kingdom but one ruling the mic. After many battles, Icon The Mic King has arrived to tell you how he does his thing. Pay attention, grab a drink cause the banquet is now in session.
Cellar Noise:Tell us a little bit about your background.
Icon The Mic King: I'm from North Philadelphia. Been rhyming for 8 years now and part of a crew called Fallen Angelz. I was born into Hip Hop. The earliest song I can remember was like "Criminal Minded" with KRS ONE. My aunt got that record and every time I'd come over I would ask her to play that record. I started rhyming in like '94 or '95 after getting Method Man's first album. He was my inspiration to rap.
Cellar Noise: A lot of people know you as a freestyle/battle emcee. Tell everyone who you really are as an emcee and an artist.
Icon: The easiest way to put it, to kinda typecast me, would be a space rapper (laughs). I talk about all types of conceptual, crazy stuff, I mean I still do battle stuff cause it's fun and that's how people test your skill but I do a lot concepts, stories and personal stuff. I'm not just your average battle rapper who just does a bunch of punch line songs and then flips conceptual punch line songs and calls it something different. I'm kinda in the same vein of a Last Emperor type cat.
Cellar Noise:I took a look at your website and on your notes I sensed some frustration as far as putting stuff out. Tell us about your journey inside of the business side of Hip Hop.
Icon: My first 12-inch, I dropped it myself so that was basically whenever I could get the dough up, it came out. My follow up 12-inch "IndieInBurns" with C Rayz Walz and some other joints, Third Earth is supposed to drop that. I turned that record in last September and it's still not out. It's finally about to come out now because they wanted me to make some changes on the cover art and a third song with Black Panther, which is gonna be crazy. And I have a special guest but I'm not going to let that out the bag yet. The whole endeavor, you never know what's going to happen unless you're controlling it that's why people do a lot of CD-R stuff so they can get it out and generate buzz. I'm trying to do more official stuff, like dropping 12-inches to build up the anticipation for an album. It's hard to do that when you're trying to get things to come out back to back but they don't come out for a year. My first record dropped in July of last year and now I don't have a follow-up yet. It's not fun and very frustrating.
Cellar Noise: How do you think you can gain or change the business side?
Icon: I think this new record "IndieInBurns" is gonna change that cause I think of my first record as a false start. It's a dope record but I could've done a better record. I was really going into it blindly. The A-side "Ahead of My Time", I was just like yeah I'll write 2 verses that are two pages each. Just because it's two pages doesn't mean it's an equal bar length like one verse is 36 and the other 32. I'm more refined now with this record, I'm really proud of it. The song I did with C Rayz, I don't know if I can declare it classic but it's a real ill song. The other two tracks are real ill too. After this one drops, I think cats will take me more seriously. So more cats will come at me for records instead me trying to shop records. Another thing about being respected is you have to have a steady flow of stuff like C Rayz. He kept dropping dope records back to back so cats were looking for the next C Rayz record. He built that reputation. That's what I'm trying to do, just keep grinding and making music so I can drop it back to back and they can say Icon is packing some heat. I don't want to reinvent the wheel. I saw it work for C Rayz so why not for me.
Cellar Noise: When was that moment when you knew you wanted to do this? Do you have a specific moment?
Icon: It was somewhere around when I was digesting the "Tical" album. I was like yo this cat's flow is ridiculous. I think I can do this. I just started freestyling and like everybody else you don't set out, unless you're 50 Cent, to be a rapper and make money. I was just doing it for fun and I started to get better at it and making music. Then I said this is something I really want to do. Being a rapper was the farthest thing from my mind, I wanted to be a cartoonist. I started making video games and getting heavy into computers but I don't love that anymore. I love making music and speaking from my heart about the things I'm feeling. I realized how good I thought I was so there's no reason I shouldn't be living off of this cause I have talent and skill.
Cellar Noise: Tell me what's going on with the group Voltron.
Icon: It's me, Manifest and my man DJ Cue Two, who is ridiculous. He won the Houston DMC, he was a US Finalist, an ITF Finalist, the kid is nasty. Basically, it was me, Fest, Cue Two, Poison Pen and my man Kwote Scriptures and we on tour for spring break. Me and Fest had some songs and our chemistry was real natural and real ill. We didn't have a DJ so I told Cue Two to come through. We got on stage without practicing or nothing but it came together so naturally and the chemistry is so hot. After the end of the tour, we said we gotta make this a group. Right now, it's going slow cause they're all doing their own thing and I'm doing mine. We just trying to put together an album. I wanna wait until my name get a little bigger so it's easier to get the album out on a timely basis. We're just doing lots of shows because they're there and we don't have to rehearse cause it comes together real well. It's like a Method Man/Redman project or a Camp-Lo type project where we're just bringing all of the elements together to make more classic music. I'm more of a deep underground type cat who can do commercial if I have to and Fest is more commercial who can do the underground. It comes together cause it's not an all underground or all commercial album, it's something cats in Hip Hop can enjoy. That balance is what makes what we do work real well. There's no typecasting, we just make dope music.
Cellar Noise: Tell me about what's happening with Indieground Records.
Icon: That's my little label and I always downplay it because I don't have the money to make it be what I want it to be right now. It's just something I started when I was eighteen, when I first thought we could make it official. The first project we did was my man Perfecto's album and it came out three years ago. We didn't have the money to get it out like that but it did pretty good. After that I dropped my single and I only pressed about a thousand copies. I put it out to see what it did and it sold well. In the future, as I can generate the capital for it, I want to drop my own stuff on Indieground. So I have "Ahead of My Time", IndieInBurns" and three other singles dropping, then I want to re-release those 5 singles on a CD called "Leading By Example" which I want to drop on Indieground so I can get the dough off that. All these label deals are ill cause they get you out there but the economy is bad and records don't sell as well anymore so you don't get much off of 12-inch deals except for shows. So you can say it's like a commercial, that's what 12-inches do. I'm trying let all the commercials run and reap the benefits of the commercials.
Cellar Noise: Are you planning on having any other artists working with you on the label?
Icon: Yeah. I'm pretty sure in the near future we'll release a Manifest 12-inch because he's doing everything he needs to do to have commercial success. Other than that, I got a white label I want to do that has my rendition of Royce Da 5'9's "I'm The King". In the long run I definitely want to be releasing stuff for other artists like my man AWOL. Right now, that's not my focus cause I want to build up the flagship artist which is me.
Cellar Noise: What's your process in writing? Inspiration?
Icon: It depends what type of song it is. If it's a story or conceptual type song, I basically sit there and try to think of something that I haven't heard anyone do, whether it be a movie or a book. I try to come up with something as original as possible. I iron it out in my head before I even get started on paper. I also have to find the perfect beat. If it's a battle type song then stock up punch lines and I sit down with the beat and work it out with the flow. A personal song just comes right out, there's no force to it.
Cellar Noise: Do you have a method? I noticed on the song "The End" you changed up your flows throughout the song.
Icon: That was the first official song I had dropped and I was experimenting with styles. It's a heavily Pharaoh Monch influenced song right there. I was playing with different vocal inflections and there's no rhyme or reason for that, I just wanted to try and freak it. There isn't much of a process cause I sit with a basic vision and flush it out as I go. There's a few things that remain constant through everything I do like matching the syllables, complete sentence rhyme schemes but while doing that I bring it back on some ABBA pattern type thing. So I try to make everything as original as possible.
Cellar Noise: You've been in a lot of battles. What emcee you battled really surprised you?
Icon: Yeah. Diabolical. I heard a lot of stories and I thought he's gonna be nice cause I'm down with him. The way our crew works is we were all crew but I didn't know everyone at the time so I just assumed he was nice. Then I saw him battling and I thought he was nasty. Then when I battled him, I didn't expect him to come up with what he came up with. He caught me off-guard. And he beat me. Diabolic is nice cause he's one of those cats that's automatic, always coming with it. My biggest standout battle was with Many Styles cause I didn't expect to beat him. He went first and I was just sitting there, then all of a sudden something clicked, I blacked out and the next thing I know I won the battle. Many Styles was my favorite emcee at the time so for that to happen was crazy to me.
Cellar Noise: Do you remember your first battle?
Icon: Nope. But the first organized one I can remember was in DC. That was around the time I didn't really understand what battling was. I just thought I'd spit an ill verse and diss 'em a little bit in ways that it's not playing to the crowd but I know I'm killing it. This cat I battled he was wack to me, he was loud and had a presence so they gravitated towards that, where as me, my mic control wasn't the best cause it was the first time in front of people. I was just spitting. So the way I rhyme on tracks is the way I was battling, full rapid flow. Now I take it slow and throw the pauses in there so they can catch it. The thing with battling, the crowd doesn't care what you're saying other than the punch lines, as long as you're saying dope stuff. I could go I'm busting your crew, you're as ugly as your shoes and they won't care about those other two wack lines but as long as they see that his shoes are ugly and he's as ugly, they'll react. So when you annunciate and slow it down, they hear it.
Cellar Noise: What's happening with the EP "Intricate Spectrum"?
Icon: I'll be honest I only have two songs recorded for that out of nine. Most of the stuff is written. I just have to get back to DC and record it. This EP is me being pulled in different directions so people can see what I'm working with. This will prepare me for the album. It's a project to give my fans something to enjoy while I finish my album called "Self Cent Ered". I'm doing my best to make classic albums.
Cellar Noise: Do you consider yourself an experimental emcee?
Icon: I wouldn't say experimental. I'm just a little off centered. People on the left can respect it cause it's a little different and cats to the right don't shy away from it. I try to do things that sound good to me.
Cellar Noise: What do you want to see happen with Icon?
Icon: In the short term, I want to see that underground success. The units moving and touring all of the time like Atmosphere. In the long term, I'd like to have major distribution. It be dope to be signed and have the Kweli, Mos Def, Monch stature in the game.
Cellar Noise:What are you trying to build for the future?
Icon: Longevity basically. I want to have a core fan base. I'm trying to make it so I'm here to stay. I wanna do me and live off of this.
Cellar Noise: So what's next?
Icon: I have the single "IndieInBurns" and I'm trying to work out a third single with Mr. Len. Then the fourth single which will be off of "Intricate Spectrum". I want to create that buzz. I don't want to be the cat that drops an album and no one cares about it.
Cellar Noise: Any last words for your fans?
http://www.cellarnoise.com/images/icon-phone.gifIcon: Buy the record, don't download it (laughs). Thanks for all of the support and keep looking out cause you haven't heard anything yet. Look out for my crew too. My man AWOL is working on his album and Manifest eventually. Diabolic. Poison Pen. Kwote Scriptures. Double Negative. Keep those names in your head. Thanks to Cellar Noise for having me.

My God, nobody ever posts anything in here.
Anyone else think that Non-Phixion is awful and overrated? I have hardly ever liked a Necro beat and the only one with any real MC talent (and doesn't have to get by purely on shock value) is Sabac. His album was alright, though the chorus' and production is pansy.
Now The Arsonists, there is a real group. As the World Burns is a classic album.

Non-Phixion are awesome...Necro's probably one of my favourite producers, it's always eerie and atmospheric, it's rare to hear a weak beat from him. Bill is easily the best MC in the group. He's got that nastiness of Necro, but much better lyrically and has more of a political edge, more social awareness...he's less of a shock-rapper, more an all-round good MC. The rest are only ok. Goretex bores me.
The Future Is Now is one of my favourite albums everrrrr

Last week I downloaded Revolutionary Vol. 2 and Kiss of Death. I've heard so much about Immortal Technique, and after hearing this album, he deserves the credit. I cant find a bad track on here. Point of No Return is friggin awesome.
Jadakiss was kind of a let down. Too many generic hooks and beats. When he really tries to write personal stuff, or tell stories, or just make another banger with Styles, it comes off well. The stuff with Pharrell, Mariah Carey and Snoop is boring.
Does anybody know the sample used on the chorus of JMT's "Deer Hunter"? It sounds like Sade, but I'm not sure.

I think it is wonderful that you promote underground and less known acts in hip hop but I think you should not diss the more mainstream artists that you may not like. That pushes people away from posting because they feel they will be ridiculed for their taste in music. IE. when you insulted me for enjoying lloyd banks.

A very fucking good album. The Big Picture is the equivalent of Biggie's 'Born Again' or 2pac's 'R U Still Down?'...not a bad album by the standards of hip-hop in general, but nowhere near as good as their pre-death albums, really just a mish-mash of recorded verses with (obviously) no input from the artist about how the verses run together etc. Other than Ebonics, there's no stand-out tracks on the album. Lifestylez..., on the other hand, is fantastic. Probably the biggest praise I can give it is that it's as close to Illmatic as you'll ever heard, stylistically and quality-wise.

The Tipping Point is weak in my opinion. Didn't do very well with rapreviews.com either. I think that after the pinnacle that was Things Fall Apart and the loss of Malik B things have gone downhill.
Alright, Talib's album was SUPPOSED to be out in April. But then the leaking happened in February when the product wasn't even close to being finished so he went back in and re-did a lot of things. Then the mixtape came out in April (with Dave Chapelle hosting as Rick James). Album release date is now September 21st.
Outerspace album (Blood & Ashes) out now. Immortal Technique is on there (that track is amazing), as well as JMT of course. But Stoupe doesn't produce anything.

The new Goodie Mob is supposed to be pretty good, the Source (far be it from me to believe Benzino) said it suffered because Cee left though.
Apparently there's a few disses directed at him, dunno specifics though.
And Simon - The Big Picture is top quality imo, maybe I haven't heard all that led up to it or all that preceeded it but I'll get there. Just gimme time.
And btw, Ebonics is probably my favourite song off the album. I'm not 100% keen on the Fat Joe verses on two of the tracks but still - the beats don't suffer.

There was trouble outside the venue, which ended up with Klashnekoff fucking off home because the security were denying him entry because of the fighting etc. Anyway, this bad blood continued inside, with rucks kicking off all over the place during the support acts. Mobb Deep came on an hour late which pissed the crowd off even more, and eventually when they came on, the stage got rushed and loads of people tried to jack Prodigy and Havoc's chains, diamonds etc...the two of them shit themselves and ended the set after half an hour, and apparently fucked off to the airport instantly, vowing never to return :D

As for the Outerspace album, it is probably my second favorite album to come out this year. Planetary is a very quality MC and I have liked him ever since he appeared on Violent by Design. So I guess when I said the lyrics were blah before I kind of understated it. It is just that the production outshines everything on there and I am not as big a fan of Warchild.

Um no..
Kiss of death is far from great. It is subpar at best. 7 of the 18 songs are either decent or good and the remainder are garbage. His album has so many filler tracks that It pisses me off. When will an artist realize that the listener would rather have 10 quality tracks instead of 18 subpar? Quality>Quanity.
P.S Welcome to D-block is a hot song, and yes, we know Eminem can't produce for shit he has proved that already.

id say only about half of his beats are shit, mainly the stuff he churns out for D12. but then they are mainly terrible rappers and deserve a nice good, shitty beat to rap over!
the eminem show had some hot beats i thought, superman was an instant classic. the stuff on 50 cents album that he produced and the stuff he mixed was quality, and that beat he did on gods son was good too. renegades was a classic a few years back too. i'd say for every bad beat he does he does a good one, he aint that bad. that last gangstarr album was fucking awful and had about 4 listenable tracks, and premos still considered the best producer in the game :dunno:

As much as I love to hate Emimem, cut the guy some slack. Sure he isnt the best producer, he isnt supposed to be a good producer he is just a rapper turned producer. He has produced some decent beats so give him credit for the good production that he has done. Its not like he is quitting rapping to be a full time producer, he's just working on it on the side to someday be a good producer.

He's produced a few nice beats, but mostly shite. Half his beats sound exactly the same, and they ALL follow a generic pattern.
Also, he's said that he WILL quit rapping to be a full time producer, in fact it's surprising that he's still rapping at all, he said he wanted out when he hit thirty.

As far as I know he only produced one beat for Nas(so far) which was The Cross of off God's Son, and Renegade is the only Jay-Z track I can think of and both of those were pretty decent beats. I do agree that alot of his beats sound suspiciously similar. \
Either way, Nas could flow over a beat I made and it would still be a hot song, so who cares, let him produce. If you dont like it, dont buy it, then maybe he wont produce anymore.

The guy could produce a shit album and it will still be considered great. He has become a Pop icon. I am hoping however that Em steps it up for this album and produces a classic. By the way, which Em album do you guys think was his best? I think THE MM LP was his best work. It was just solid from begining to end and the hits, incredible. He tried to market himself on a style that was played out. And the lyrics were trash basically. Some decent production on there, but that didn't cover the flaws.
Cage > Eminem
Simon
August 6th, 2004, 2:39 AM
SSLP is his best album by miles IMO...basically every track is top quality. The difference between that and his other two albums is basically explained in the titles of them...The Slim Shady LP is his alter ego, where he produces his best lyrics - no self-important bullshit telling you about how hard it is being rich and famous, just brilliant, disgusting, hilarious hip-hop...MMLP was more of the same (Criminal, Kill You, I'm Back, Remember Me), but had more stuff about his life (The Way I Am, Marshall Mathers, The Real Slim Shady) that was good, but got boring after a while. The Eminem Show was basically all about ihs life, and the only Slim Shady moments on the CD are on Without Me, which was shit anyway.
SSLP is his best. I don't think he has it in him to come out with anything as good as that again.

I watched an interview with Shyne on Mtv2 where he talked about everything including his problem with 50 cent and how he feels about diddy.
Pretty interesting. HE was however trying way to hard to come off as peaceful and like he had no anger towards anyone. He sort of reminded me of 2pac with his glasses and his demeanor. Anyhow he mentioned that his album was not recorded in prison. So, I am guessing its not through the phone.

I've just got the pre-release of Dizzee Rascal's new album...it's shite. His first album was great, all fucked-up beat, crazed yelpy voice and generally just different, great stuff...this new one, the unger in his voice has gone, he just sounds like your everyday British rapper...with poor-quality grime beats. The garage track (and new single) Stand Up Tall is kinda funky, even if the beat's a bit Mario Kart-ish...aside from that, only the real hip-hop tracks like Learn, Flyin' and Fickle are any good.

A couple things of note....
Canibus was on the Wake Up Show last night. It was kind of a disappointment in the lack of information he gave but said he was still in the studio with Nottz and he is going to let everyone know he can still make music that people can nod their head to. He also dropped a few short verses, nothing special but enough to show he still has the hunger. The "Bis Eastwood" line was  though. I have the interview in full, so if you want to hear for yourself just IM me if you see me around. I'm at work right now though so no soup for you.
Also, the new JMT single "Before the Great Collapse" is going to be released on Babygrande.com on Wednesday night. Rumor has it that it is a very deep and emotional track like "I Who Have Nothing". Whether Vinnie Paz can still pull that off is to be seen. The only positive is that Stoupe's production will be mind-blowing. And also, the B-side of the single is "On the Eve of War" ft. Gza. The Legacy of Blood album will be out a month after that. The one thing I find amusing is how fucking dramatic JMT is with their titles. It is hip hop, not a life or death crisis.
Also, everyone download "Hip Hop Worth Dying For" by Main Flow and featuring Talib Kweli. Definitely the song of the month.
Laters.
Edit: Forgot one major thing. Wordsworth's first album, Mirror Music, is out on September 14th. From what I have heard it is great. About time for such a great emcee and freestyle legend to get a full-length album out. Now, hopefully he doesn't bomb like say, Canibus, and he actually knows how to create a song.

Four days after his huge appearance on the Wake Up Show he is on the new Kay Slay mixtape with Shaquille O'Neal over the Victory beat. That joke about me not being the illest gave me real fits. I am stalking these MC's and I shant quit ripping them till I do get buckled. Grand work the last job was. I gave that monkeyface no time to squeal. How can they catch me now. I love my work and want to start again. You will soon hear of me with my torturous little games. I saved some of the proper red stuff in a Guiness beer bottle over the last job to write with but it coagulated and I can't use it. I will take every opportunity to convey my originality. The next job I do I shall surgically remove an MC's voicebox and send it to his record label just for kicks. Keep this statement confidential till I do a bit more work, then give it out straight. My rhymes are so nice and sharp I want to get to work right away. Catch me if you can, but don't sweat me if you can't.

While I am at it. May 1st, 2004 freestyle from Immortal Technique in Portland......
You're blind to the fact, cause you're a coward and a dreamer
A pussy like Nazi's hiding in Argentina
Pop shit, I'll catch you quicker than a misdemeanor
And put you in a fucking box next to Selena
Cause I'm the meanest motherfucker you could ever imagine
Incarcerate the universe inside a single atom
But since the populous kids fathom space an stars
I spit razor blades that cover your face with scars
Killing you on the spot like you saw the face of God
Empty the clip in you and load up 16 for your squad
Dying is easy but living with Satan's going to be hard
I spit revolutionary bars that'll touch ya
(?) ecstatics that murder you like the King of Russia
And on your tomb-stone chizzle; fake motherfucker
Cocksucker, I blade you cause I'm the god
But I won't send my son to save you
I gave you the pieces to reconstuct the world of the past
But all you can do is redicule the future and laugh
So Imma split you in half, machine gun to ya belly
and then I'll piss all over your sister like R. Kelly
I got more connections than illegal selling microchips
To hunt you down after I've destroyed the mic when I spit
Immortal Technique bitch I'm a real lyracist
Although people just use Jay-Z as their ventriloquist
I'm Peruvian and Black. And although I a identified with being Peruvian more which I have no issue with...I am proud of both bloods, and I don't have that racist issue that prevents me from building outside of my "race". I am open to working with anyone who I see on some real RBG shit. I don't really get along with the fake "conscious MC" circuit, I am a warlord and believe in affecting change not just poppin shit. I hate fake crab I think I'm a murder ******...Cuz you ain't killed nobody..You dont even know what dead body smellls like, pussy, you never seen the brain fluid come out of someones head...Keep it real *****.
I battled in jail and on the street before I ever touched a stage to battle...And I rock shows in mad places, I'm definitely not the first artist to promote himself on-line and the majority of my 29,000 sold come from shows and street team work..I only sold about 3,000 on-line. So anyone who thinks I came up on-line is a fuckin' idiot. Yeah I do lots of interviews but most of them are on magazines, it's just easier to find the ones on-line...They are categorized...and on google and here.
I turned down 9 major label deals, to do this, because they wanted to make me into some sort of joke, some pop nonsense and make rhymes about nothing. They wanted to exploit my jail visit and create some scarface bullshit. The media though recently slandered me in the daily news which is cool I expect that from them...But I got lots of real ****** in the street that know me. ANd then on the radio they said I had beef with 50. Ahahaa, fuckin' idiots.
I'm a Harlem bred cat that don't have time for much but I figured I would come straighten you out. No disrespect I'm just being a man. I'm not taking questions and I am going back to the lab now.
"The Middle Passage" LP coming soon.

I just have one flaw, a low tolerance for bullshit. And that's all this industry is...Bullshit. But I am fixing that by not giving a fuck about what anyone says and just doing me. I argue with kids on websites and got a team to promote the album but I don't argue in person, I'll just knock you the fuck out. Everyone's transmission cut off before Chino XL did his freestyle on the Wakeup Show last night so nobody has it recorded. :(
And Chino really sounds like he is turning into a mainstream bitch. Just release your albums you damn slacker. Maybe he was just playing to Sway though, the MTV clown prince.
P.S - After reading that little IT thing again, I really think he is turning into a psychotic blabbermouthed idiot. But I'll still buy his records.

That's pretty cool that Bis actually battled some guys on his site. Both verses are dope, but the second verse is just awesome. Did he win the battles? How did they know it was him?
 to the Victory track. Shaq is terrible.
Just downloaded Revolutionary Vol. 1, and it's very good. I think vol. 2 is better though. "Top of the Food Chain" is nuts.

Bis was staying in touch with the mods on CW, he still has beef with C-C because of all the haters. Jeymes Samuel posts on C-C under the kisskiss name because he wanted people to think he was just a girl who was close to him and not the real thing. He is a real cool guy to talk to but I haven't seen him online for a while. I first talked to him when I gave him the Bis/DMX/Noreaga freestyle session. And he also sent out the 20 autographed vinyls of WWTS which was totally out of his way. Rumor has it that it was Bis who wrote "Thanks for the support" in the corner but I don't know that for sure. And yes, Bis won the battles. Granted, only one was legit. The guy in the second got scared and didn't show up. And this was before people heard him on the Wakeup Show spit some of those lines so nobody knew it was him then except a few select people. I just wish he would end his beef with C-C. Punisher needs to talk to him or something.
Victory track is cool. His voice in that is out of pure spite for LL/Eminem, YET a lot of what he says is directed at his fans. Yes, Shaq is terrible, but the combination of him and Kay Slay gives him great exposure. Kay Slay played another new track by Bis the other day but no one recorded it. The Drama King has always loved Bis so this is no big surprise. I think he should just sign to his label like the rumors have been talking about.

Kay Slay is going crazy with these new Canibus exclusives. There are at least three in addition to the Victory freestyle. One features Papoose, another Young One. And I think there might be a solo Bis track as well. Nobody has recorded it and I can't find a place to listen online so I haven't heard them yet. I think I'll stick around boxden.com for the next couple of hours. Heh.

really feeling tech n9ne lately. Anghelic is pretty cool, some real good tracks on there.
psycho bitch
who you came to see
tormented
eistein tech nine
absolute power isnt bad, preferred anghelic though.
anyone know if he has any more albums other than these two.
ive not seen anyone mention big syke in this forum. cant remember what its called but its a real good album. so great songs to drive to on that album.
question, what are you favourite hip hop songs to drive to, mine would be:
Rule - Nas
hate me know? - Nas
Tormented - Tech N9ne
first in flight - blackalicious
theres alot more, pretty much any song from East 1999 Eternal by BTNH. Big bone thugs n harmony fan, havent read much love for these guys on the board.. so what are yours.
by the way, im not new to the forums, ive been visiting this place for a couple of years now, never really posted anything though, just have a browse when im bored.

Yeah, I have plenty of love for Tech N9ne. And I agree that Anghellic is a much cooler album than Absolute Power. He has been "working" on his new album for quite sometime and it was initially supposed to be out this summer but now, like Chino XL, there is no official release date. I know Eminem is on that bad boy though.
Favorite riding songs that aren't metal? Hmmmm. 2000 B.C is my Canibus riding album, almost everything on there is car-worthy. Heavyweight by Tonedeff. Almost anything by Tonedeff really. Point of No Return by Immortal Technique. Chino XL is in the car a lot too, there are about 8 tracks that I bump off I Told You So. And speaking of Bone, my senior year of high school I had Bizzy Bone's The Gift in my car at least half the time. Badass album.
Did you just download the Canibus albums? Because My Name is Nobody was just a mixtape and hard to get unless you order off micclub.net and they are the shadiest place to order from EVER. Canibus has actually asked people who never received their orders and were charged to email him personally so he could get it straightened out.
Good job on getting that stuff though. I am proud of you. If you are looking for something else, try and get 2000 B.C. He also has a new freestyle over the Guerilla Monsoon Rap beat with Papoose that he blazes. Papoose is great too, til the end where he gets all cheesy and lame trying to rap fast. It is sickening. Combine that with the Victory Freestyle/So Fly Freestyle/freestyle with Young One over some LL beat he has four pieces of new material floating around. Two I've heard, two I haven't. :\
And my love for Canibus is over the top? Really? No way!

Royce Da 5’9 is preparing to release a new album, M.I.C. The 16-track album is Royce’s third release. The album is a collaborative effort between Royce and upcoming producer Nottz. The album is being released through Sure Shot Recordings and hits stores on Oct. 26.
3rd official release, but he had an albums of studio-cuts and freestyles that was like 20 tracks long.... 4get the name, but it was hot, too. Royce is my fav. living rapper right now, right up there with Nas as the best in the game right now.
Speaking of best in the game i can't wait until the new Pac album slated for Dec. release. 2-disc, pre-deathrow album, baby.
Now on to recent releases:
The new Mase album, actually pretty solid. Here's a summed up review, picked it up 2nyte and have listened through it 3 times through to carefully analyze that ish:
Flow: 4/5 - Mase, even as an average lyricist has a catchy and smooth flow.
Lyrics: 3/5 - Better than his 1st album, but not as good as his 2nd. He does, however, touches deep on his feelings, pains, and past (even to the point of dissing himself for how he use to think/act). But on two songs, especially "Gotta Survive" he lyrically rips the beat and surprises me personally as a grown lyricist.
Beats: 3.5/5 - Only like 3 beats are outstanding, but everything else is solid or good. Not a single bad beat on the whole album.
Value: 3.5/5 - Only 12 songs brings this score down a bit, but if you cool with Mase or dig him a lot, you get A LOT of him as only 1 other rapper is actually featured on the album (It says P-Diddy is feat. on one song, but really Puffy's just in the background, which i think is a good thing)... but you get an introspective Mase rapping solidly over some tight beats, some songs really make you think or make you feel him. Good Value overall.
Production: 4/5 - Most songs are equalized well and the sound-effects and order of songs are perfect, but 2 songs have hooks that could have been cleaned up a little.
Overall: 3.75/5
3 Strongest Songs:
-Keep It On
-Gotta Survive
-My Harlem Lullaby/Money Comes and Goes (serious tie, dudes)
3 Weakest Songs:
-Welcome Back
-Into What I Say
-I Wanna Go
Note for all my future reviews: Just because a song falls in the "weakest" category does not mean it's bad, it simply means that it's on the lower side of the album. So, if i put some songs ya'll love in the "weakest" category, then that probably means the album was TIGHT!
Overall guys, i'm cool with Mase being back. He didn't sell out at all, which people should respect whether or not you like his style. He didn't turn his back on his last 5 years of preaching, cuz the man stays deep, doesn't cuss, and spits some words of wisdom on this.

Dude, that Mase album is trash. You've got to be kidding.
If you didn't like Mase when he was out before then you won't now, like the dude on Rapreviews.com. But if you dug him in 97-99 you'll like the new album. I'm not even wasting my time disputing this as the album isn't worth defending, it's just worth the 10 bucks i paid for it is all i'm saying.
And to HBK2K, None of the posthumous Pac albums have been "bad", it's just hardcore fans get pissy with tracks being remixed. Personally the ONLY thing that bugs me about the rmx'ing is that they sometimes add people I don't approve of like 50 cent and Eminem, that just don't go well with Pac. I'm fine with Eminem producing some beats for the enxt album as Afeni has confirmed, but i hope if the raps he only has 1 verse the whole album, hopefully none. But besides some shotty guest spots, the remixed songs are usually as good or better than the originals, imo. 2pac Live was pretty good, though.

Couldnt disagree more JS. God's Son was a more subtle, mellow rap album. Certainly it had a different feel from Stillmatic, but it is a pretty good cd. Give it another listen. Thugs Mansion was a good track, but definately not the cream of the crop on that album. Get Down, The Cross, Made you Look, Book of Rhymes, and Warrior Song are my favorite tracks of that cd.
I think one reason why alot of people get turned off by newer Nas cds, is that he is constantly changing his sound and each of his cds has a different feel than the previous one. Contrary to most, this is why I think Nas is the greatest rapper ever, because he has experimented and evolved with the years, instead of finding success with one formula and sticking with it, cough Jay-Z(post Reasonable doubt) cough.
God's Son is a pretty solid album, the only Nas cd I would consider even close to "average" is "I Am".

Check out Braille's "Shades of Grey" album. Ranks right with Illogic's "Celestial Clockwork" as the two best hip hop albums I have heard this year. Here is his interview with allhiphop.com and the rapreviews.com review which gave him 9 for lyrics, music, and overall. Don't say I didn't try with you bastards.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Braille is a phenomenal emcee who debuted in 1999 with “Life First: Half the Battle” and now is back with an extremely anticipated sophomore solo album “Shades of Grey”. Braille is also part of super crew Lightheaded with members Ohmega Watts, Othello and Muneshine, which released “Pure Thoughts” in 2003 to great success and praise.
What is the logic behind the name Braille?
I've been named Braille now for like 6 or 7 years. It almost feels like my birth name sometimes. The definition of "braille" is text for the blind. I take it as, using the text I write to help people understand the things they can't see, to express the unseen, to express emotions and to communicate life perspectives.
How did you begin rapping and who was your inspiration?
I grew up in one of the many golden eras of hiphop. My favorite groups were tribe called quest, de la soul, leaders of the new school and so forth. I hardly remember what first got me into it, like, I can't remember the day that I sat down and decided to write a rap. I think I used to rap other peoples lyrics and then slowly started writing my own. This was at a very young age. It was recreational for the first year or two. I started recording songs in studios around age 14 and that just got me amped to keep working at it.
What albums are in your discography?
As a solo artist I've released "Lifefirst: Half the Battle (1999)" and "Shades of Grey (2004)". Aside from many tapes and such, the other release I'm still pushing is with my group Lightheaded, "Pure Thoughts (2003)". I've also featured on a lot of different cds through the years.
How did the groups Acts 29 and Lightheaded form?
Acts 29 was the name of a youth group that I attended. The CD was originally created to give to youth visitors at the church. Syntax wanted a solo record from me and I didn't have one at the time, so I gave them the church project. The main base of my groups started with Return to Sender (Ohmega and I) but since we never had the chance to expand much we just always included each other in everything we did. The end result right now is "Lightheaded" which also has Othello, Muneshine and now our official DJ is DJ Bombay from Ohio. Ohmega Watts, Othello, and I are just a grouping of best friends who all happen to be fans of each others work.
How did you hook up with Syntax Records?
I've known Tim (sir roc) for a long time now. We've always chatted back and forth on-line. When they were working on Fashion Expo they talked with me about doing a solo record with them. We did the songs for fashion expo and I consistently featured on most all of their releases. Funny thing is, they never had the chance to release a solo record from me. At this time I'm not signed with them anymore but we are still great friends. We are both in the process of building our futures and re-building the foundations of our careers. I'm sure we'll always be involved in each others projects regardless.
What does the title of your latest release "Shades of Grey" mean?
I believe in absolutes. The "Shades of Grey" are the areas of confusion in our life. When we allow them to remain grey and don't establish a direction based on either truth or faith.....then these areas eventually take over our way of living. No boundaries, no direction....just existing in the grey.
How did you come up with the idea for a Limited Edition "Shades of Grey", complete with signatures?
In the process of working things out with Syntax, I was just so excited to get this album into people’s hands that I decided to release it myself. I made the first 1,000 limited because I didn't know how soon it would officially release. However, I have now decided to start my own label, so it is officially released now through that label.
What do you feel is your favorite track off the album?
That's a really hard question. I spent 3 years piecing it together, so everything on the record means a lot to me. Some of my personal favorites are towards the end. Songs like "goliath", "nobody", "shades of grey" and in the middle songs like "keep on" and "poetry in motion part two".
How did you hook up with Rob Swift from X-Ecutioners for the song "Hiphop Music" and 9th Wonder for "10 Years"?
I just wanted to connect with them, so I reached out and we were able to make it happen. This was before 9th Wonder was producing for artists like Jay-Z. As for Rob Swift, he's just a mad cool guy.
What would the ultimate reward for you be?
I'm really trying to do my best to serve God with my whole heart. Knowing that he's pleased with me at any given time is the greatest possible reward, beyond that, just being part of what he's doing in my life and seeing it un-fold. I have so many things I want to accomplish during my life span, but really, none of it matters if it gets in the way of where God is taking me.
What can we look forward to in the near future from Braille and Lightheaded?
Next releases on the way...
1. Pick up Braille "Shades of Grey" from http://www.braillehiphop.com , http://www.sphereofhiphop.com , http://www.ughh.com and many other great places. For more store info e-mail me at braillehiphop@hotmail.com
2. Braille "Box of Rhymes" EP releases on Domination Recordings in January 2005
3. Lightheaded "Wrong Way" EP releases on my new label during the first quater of 2005. I'm excited for all of that.
4. Also check for a re-release of Lightheaded "Pure Thoughts" coming soon. It will include a new bonus cut. Last but not least, I'm also doing the U.S. release of Othello and the Hipnotiks (jazz project) titled "Classic". This will have complete mixes of the jazz project, and includes 3 bonus songs with production from Muneshine and Mr. J of the Procussions. That will drop September of this year.
5. Keep an eye out for "Heavy Rotation" also presented by my new label hopefully later this year. I know that's all confusing but if you keep up at www.braillehiphop.com (http://www.braillehiphop.com) then it will soon all make sense.

Review
Braille :: Shades of Grey :: Braille Music
as reviewed by John Book
Concepts and ideas planned out in a manner that is precise are things that work in a business infrastructure. It also works in rap music, when those concepts and ideas are executed correctly. There is a section of the hip-hop community that hears the words "concept" and "album" together, and words like bigheaded and overblown are often mentioned. I don't think no one has ever made an attempt to do a hip-hop version of "Tommy" or "Operation:mindcrime", nor does a "concept" mean that an entire album has to flow like an opera. It simply means one has to come up with an effective beginning and ending. What dances in the middle is up to the artist, who may or may not be capable of handling the task.
The problem with a lot of rap albums today is most people making albums shouldn't. A lot of rappers are more than happy to supply the next hit, and sadly that becomes the focus of what rap music is all about. Those who are willing to step out of the norm are considered... well, come up with your own stereotypes and tags. Braille has been someone who has walked his own path for awhile, not looking for a yellow brick road but for a road that was made for a rapper like him. "Shades of Grey" is an album that is well thought out, an incredlble amount of powerful and intense lyrics backed up by producers who know how to take his words over the top. In "It Won't Last" (produced by Weapon X), he and guest rappers Othello and Pigeon John talk about repetitive rappers who say nothing, and people eat that up to where it becomes the only style of music they listen to. "Goliath" (produced by Ohmega Watts) takes Braille into familiar territory, touching on the story of David and Goliath and using it as a metaphor for what the music industry has become. In other words, it's a beast that thousands have to deal with, and sadly also leaves behind many casualties.
Positivity is the topic of discussion in "Soul Rock", where Braille is backed with Ohmega Watts and Othello, along with Sharlok Poems of L.A. Symphony, and hearing how well these guys rap together makes one wish more people were tapping into this recipe.
Braille can carry it off when he has his friends complimenting him, but he stands out more when he takes a song on his own. In the title track, Braille taps into the human psyche and how we bob and weave throughout life for the sake of keeping head over water:
"What could drive a man off a cliff, lost in thoughts
analyze life to find what's real and what's not
forgotten faces, flashing through my conscience
a conquest for freedom, constant forward motion
leaving Egypt, past erased from attachment
to start from scratch with the bricks that established
my true identity, secret to most
deeper then known, I'm keeping it close, to my heart
written on stone tablets, alone in my magic
advice projected, correcting bad habits
laughing as I drowned in mystical tears
mind consumed by thoughts that my physical fears
I can't, listen with ears, cause words will deceive
as I stand up against darker versions of me
looking over my shoulder, waiting for false moves
dancing around land-mines and get lost in the grove
what happens when all the light slowly fades away
and you try to see God inside a shade of grey
he's ever-present, through our mistakes flaws and folly
he could have left me falling, but instead he called me
and I answered, silent and unsure what to say
just thanking him for life even with the shades of grey"
With production contributions from Kno of CunninLynguists and 9th Wonder of Little Brother, "Shades Of Grey" is a top notch album that is one of the more important hip-hop albums of the year. Braille could very well be on his way to taking his music to the next level, wherever he chooses to take it, and regardless of who adds color to his shades of grey.

With the talk about Nas, I feel this guy is a bullshit artist, honestly. I love Illmatic and I probably always will, but since then, he's been inconsistent to say the least. I just don't see how his fans are so quick to point out his great accomplishments, but are so quick to ignore his bullshit.
They act like his years of attempting to become more mainstream didn't happen. Like he didn't make up half of what he said on that "classic dis track" that supposedly ended Jay-Z's career. Like he didn't go all on this big "blaze of glory" against Hot 97, and then punk out by going on there and apologizing when it was time for his album to drop. Like he didn't criticize other rappers for "ruining hip-hop" and then align himself with Murder Inc. Like he didn't dis rappers for doing ads for companies and "selling out", meanwhile showing up in rim company ads.
He just baffles me. He criticizes people and then turns around and does the same shit, and badly at that. And his fans don't see this. They're quick to bring up his "smarter" music, but you mention that song he did with Ginuwine or the Murder Inc. thing, and they don't know what you're talkin' about...
I think he's really talented, but his inconsistencies just take away from him being a guy that people can bank on. Usually fans stand by artists they know won't go back on their words or back down once someone calls their bluff. Nas doesn't seem like the type to depend on for that.

Whenever King Tech decides to give everyone a chance to download it for 10 minutes. It is going to be on the Wake Up Show album next year, so understandably he probably doesn't want the entire world to hear it. But 10 minutes is well enough for it to get around.
And the Eminem "Just Lose It" track should be out on Thursday. With the Encore title it looks like he is trying to go for an amalgamation of his first three albums. If I hear at least a semblance of Slim Shady on this album I will be happy, since it is the only of his albums I have fully enjoyed.
And the Jedi Mind Tricks album is out next week and still no leak. Babygrande is seriously the best at keeping their work under wraps.

I personally hated the Slim Shady LP, but enjoyed both Marshall Mathers LP and Eminem Show. I predicted when this man debuted that his 3rd album would be his deepst yet (which i believe to be true), and his fourth would his all-around best, period, for all time. I hope i'm right.
btw, R.I.P 2PAC
8 years later you're still alive.

His third album was by far his worst. The only way Encore will be on a level with either of the first two is if it's as far from his third album as possible. You could say that his third album was his deepest, but only because neither of the first two were intended to be deep, they were intended to be funny and entertaining. The third one is deeper, but not actually deep at all (compared to other rappers' albums), and lost the humour that made Eminem great.
Also, 2pac is dead. Accept it.

All i said was that his 3rd album was his deepest, so since you agree i'm most likely right, why are you debating what i said? No one said it was tear-inducing.
And i meant 2pac is alive in spirit.

*Doesn't go into the whole production argument...*
I'll wait and see what the opinion's on the album are before even thinking about buying it this time around.

I can smell the Jay-Z biase in your post, Shut up mooney. Sure, Nas has been a bit inconsistent, when you rap about more than money and hoes without the same basic format on every cd, your sound evolves and does not just stick to the winning formula.
I am curious in you pointing out all the falacies in "Ether" since "half" of the song is lies. Also, that song didnt kill Jay-Z's career, if anything it helped Jay-Z's career(hell the beef helped both of them out really), but I would say that Ether was a million times better than The Takeover.
Finally, all musical artists sell out to mainstream some degree or else we would likely never have heard of them, but if you believe that Nas is a sellout and Jay-Z is not only a sellout but much more of one, than you sir are crazy.

I think Soldier, Cleaning out my closet, the song w/ Nate Dogg ("til my knees give out" or something like that.), and Haley's song were all in his "best of..." works. Sing for the moment and Say goodbye to Hollywood were both good as well. Overall, i enjoyed The Eminem Show, but MMLP was his best album, imo.
