Those aren't the verses he did on the Wake Up show track I have by him..

:\
It was the one from when they phoned him, not when he was in the studio.

Anyone besides me gonna get the new Murs album when it comes out? It is produced entirely by 9th Wonder. Guaranteed to be banging.

Just a rundown of some songs I've heard recently...

Nas - Star Wars
This is supposed to be included on the Illmatic re-release. It's a bit different from stuff like "Get Down" or "New York State of Mind", but its still dope.

Non Phixion - We All Bleed
Definitely feeling this track. The beat is awesome and none of the three MC's come wack.

Method Man feat Busta Rhymes - Whats Happening?
More upbeat party stuff from Meth. Not a bad track, but if all of "Tical: 0" is like this, I wont be too happy.

Jay Stacks - Heavenly Father
Lyrically, this is a good song, but the way he uses the sped-up chipmunk sample isn't very effective.

Slum Village feat Kanye West - Selfish
I haven't heard a lot from SV, but I've liked everything I have heard.

Simon
March 18th, 2004, 11:38 AM
I heard the other Nas track that's on the Illmatic re-release, was nice, haven't heard that one though, can't find anywhere

The Non-Phixion is sweet, no different to everything they've ever done, but if it ain't broke...

The Meth and Busta track is sick, high hopes for his album having heard that and a track he done with Redman that's on it.

Slum Village rule...Fall In Love =

Jin was pretty dope on 106 & Park, but "Learn Chinese" is a huge waste of talent. He's using the fact that he's Chinese as a gimmick and it's getting old very fast.

I downloaded Non-Phixion's first album last night. Dope shit.

Simon

I like Learn Chinese, bassline is sick :\

Das Efx was the shit back in their day. But I agree with spanish announce table on this - the whole gimmick is garbage. It's rather old. But when he spit that freestyle on that one guy saying "if you look in your Tim's it probably says made in China..."
I was done...

Simon
March 21st, 2004, 3:30 PM
Non-Phixion is the group comprising of Ill Bill, Goretex, Sabac Red and DJ Eclipse. The album is very dark, in the lyrical content (particularly Ill Bill, although he is a somewhat toned-down version of Necro, who's just outright sick) and the concepts on the album, a lot of it based around conspiracy theories and the idea that 'the man' is fucking everyone over. I love the album, it was much better than I expected...I was expecting an inferior Necro-style album with nothing but sick lyrics and hardcore beats...while it does have some of that, it's got a lot more depth and intelligence about it. Black Helicopters is awesome, download that and go from there. The production is brilliant also, not only does Eclipse consistently deliver nice stuff, there are some guest productions from Pete Rock, Large Professor, Premo and The Beatnuts (I think Necro has one beat as well, but I'm not definite). The quality of the production should tell you a little about the quality of the artists - relative unknown rappers don't get great producers working on their debut album unless there's a great deal of talent there.

Enough info? :heart::p

D12 album shouldn't be too far away now, same with Nas' next release. Ghostface has a new album out soon, as does Method Man. Redman's new mixtape (Ill At Will) is good, and looking a little further, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent and Dre all have albums slated for release this year...but since when has Aftermath stayed to schedule? At a guess, I'd expect the Eminem and 50 albums drop, the other two won't see the light of day in 2004.

D12, D12 World, April apparently
Lloyd Banks, Hunger For More, May
Young Buck, Straight Outta Cashville, June

I won't actually buy any of them, but still.

Simon
April 2nd, 2004, 1:08 PM
I'm gonna get the D12 album I reckon, mainly because it's the first thing I've had any sort of buzz about since...I really can't remember. Probably The Black Album, and that's a long time ago. Kanye produces a couple of tracks on D12 World, so I can at least hold hope that it'll be better than the last few Eminem-produced albums.

Fuck Lloyd Banks, and fuck Young Buck especially. I mean, who is he, really. At least Lloyd Banks looks like someone famous.

The thing is, everyone's shitting their load over Lloyd Banks, saying he's the real star of G-Unit and will blow up...I don't see it, only nice line he's ever had was that 'Sensing a lot of tension, now that I'm rapping, the kids used to look up to you - what happened?'...it's not even a good line, it's just his delivery is funny.

That's his best line?? Not by a long shot. I prefer ALL of his mixtape rhymes to almost anything on Beg For Mercy. His verse over the "Victory" beat is fuckin sick, definetly my personal favorite of his. As for his album, I think it will be decent. He is a better lyricist than 50 but I doubt he can carry an album like him. We shall see. G-Unit in general is getting so old. I just want a new Em album. That, and Busta with Dre executive producing.

I dunno. I've been contemplating getting 8701 but I'm not that fond of 'clubby' music and from what it seems like it's full of club-friendly music, or am i wrong?. '

On confessions, 'Yeah' is terrific but songs like Throwback and Confessions really get you into the album.

Simon
April 6th, 2004, 9:37 AM
Burn is the best track on Confessions by far IMO, in fact I still say it's the bests ong I've heard in 2004.

8701 is more club-oriented than Confessions, it has a few Neptunes beats and that, but it's got it's fair share of slower stuff, Can You Help Me? and U Got It Bad in particular are great.

Paris' Sonic Jihad hits every bit as hard as Revolutionary Vol. 2. You know what you are in for as soon as you open it and see the picture of the plane flying into the White House. On the back cover is a devilish George Bush and his quote about saying it would be a lot easier if it was a dictatorship, as long as he was the dictator. The production is on some 92-96 west coast shit. Definitely gives Dr. Dre a run for his money. The political samples dispersed throughout the album are so badass and real that I can't really express it in words. I think overall Immortal Technique may be a better lyricist but Paris hits so hardcore that it pretty much puts them at an even level. It is going to take many more listens to fully appreciate this. Only for the thick-blooded.

Yeah, Paris is still far inferior to Immortal Technique. The best part of the album is the cover art and the various political samples throughout the album. The production is raw as hell. Lyrically, it hits hard but leaves something to be desired. Paris' voice is rugged and kinda gets annoying after a while.

Kanye West's album, worth getting?

I'd cop it.

I like it because of the production and Kanye seems down to earth and not full of himself like many rappers.

The Last Track is fantastic as it explains Kanye's rise. The cd is nothing remarkable, but it is good and shows off some of Kanye's abilities. It is however too long, and has too many skits. Making it 14 songs would have made it a more solid CD.

Soul Food is the best.. Still Standing is aiight.. World Party was kinda a let down.. They have a greatest hits out now called Dirty South Classics... Might want to start with that one...

Dungen Family was aiight..

You'd do better getting both P.A. (Parental Advisery) albums...

-Straight, No Chase
-My Life, Your Entertainment

(they're the third group in the Dungen Family beside Goodie Mob and OutKast)

If you like them you should check out Jim Crow.. They're in the Attic Crew with P.A...

The new Eightball and MJG is hot. Cassidy's first album is pretty good. No one talks about Missy Elliott's new album, but every song is fire. I love that one joint, "Let It Bump" with Timbaland.

Missy ain't too popular among hiphop fans...

I thought about checking Cassidy's cd out, but after watching a programme on Base about him, his single looks like the same old shit, he was talking about the same old shit, and his claim to fame was "holding his own in a battle against Freeway."

So I couldn't be arsed...

Most albums are repetitive rehashes of stuff we've already heard. But, then, there are those few that bring something different to the game. Oh, and that reminds me. Who else get's tired of hearing every artist say, "Yeah, man. You know, with this album right here I was just kinda tryin' to be bring somethin' different to the game, ya know what I'm sayin'. Just tryin' to do somethin' nobody has done. And when you listen to this album you gon' see it's not like anything else out there. You know what I'm sayin'." Na Krispy I know what he means, a lot of mainstream artists come with that kind of soundbyte for the album, that their work is original, and then the album is generic trash. Off the top of my head, Cassidy, Nelly, Clipse and Kanye all said something similar about their albums, and only Kanye's comment was really justified, and even then it wasn't exactly the most original CD in the World.

But at the end of the day, there's so much hip-hop coming out nowadays that it's hard to be original, without taking the originality a step too far (IMO) and turning out something bizarre like The Love Below, which isn't even a hip-hop album really. You have to dig pretty deep to find originality nowadays, the last really original album I heard was Revolutionary Warfare Volume 2, I'd not seen an album so obsessed with conspiracy theories and the like before.

A prank from the MTV show “Punk’d” has reportedly gone wrong when host Ashton Kutcher and crew attempted to trick Black Eyed Peas into a fake arrest. According to published reports, the BEP entourage began fighting with the shows fake cops after the attempted apprehension within a sex brothel.

Neither Kutcher nor show producers anticipated that the fun-loving group would actually physically fight the “officers” during the practical joke.

Will.I.Am, lead rapper in the group, was party to the joke and when “officers” tried to arrest him, the star a BEP entourage member struck the “police” in the face. The show crew immediately stopped the prank and explained they were taping a hidden camera show, a notion that wasn’t well received.

Maybe his solo career would have started out a bit better if Rza's studio had never flooded.

He still has never been my taste. He ranks like 6th or 7th for me as far as Wu members go. But I haven't ever been much of a fan of any Wu members except for Raekwon and Rza's production. And then Raekwon released a couple so-so albums in a row and Rza has gone downhill in my opinion so there isn't much I like that is Wu-related anymore.

Speaking of interviews.....

Exclusive Canibus-Central Interview With Mr. Magnaminous Jeymes Samuel

1. Who is Jeymes Samuel and what is he about?

I’m a musician who hails from London. I find it hard to define myself because I feel that none of us truly know who we are, but I can tell you what drives me… expression. Expression in all forms. Music is the forum in which I’ve always felt most comfortable expressing myself so as long as I feel I have something to express, I’ll always call myself a musician.

2. We’ve heard that your upcoming album ‘Urban Folk Music’ is going to be more folk than Hip-Hop – how do you plan on amalgamating both styles?

They’re always amalgamated in my eyes. My album isn’t what I call Hip-Hop at all but it does fall within the Hip-Hop culture because it is that culture which we are all children of. I’m just an artist who walks in a different direction musically from others because I am an individual and that direction I call “Urban Folk Music”. So you will hear 40 piece orchestras on my album accompanying just my vocal, or you’ll hear Ayatollah lacing a track accompanying me, but it all falls within the umbrella called Hip-Hop.

3. We’ve heard ‘Who Write The Songs’ and we’ve seen the video; but what I want to know is, how did you and Canibus first come together?

Me and Bis first met in London, a few years back and then we bumped into each other in NY when I was recording. Through our love for the arts and our philosophies, a bond was formed, and all the things we’ve done so far are a direct result of that bond.

4. You’ve got an album coming with Canibus called “The Urbs,” can you give us some detail on this and a tentative timeline on when to expect it?

Yeah, “The Urbs” is going to be a sick joint man. Canibus is a workaholic, so I give him a track, he has 3 finished verses in a split sec. I have the same work ethic I think, so the album should be out shortly after my debut. So expect the jawn by the years end. It’s featuring Me, Bis, Ayatollah and Vinia Mojica with a slew of others. There’s going to be some surprises on that joint.

5. For those of us who’ve never had the privilege, tell us what’s like working with Canibus in the studio?

Sick! Bis is probably one of the true genius’ in Hip-Hop. His ability to retain info is uncanny. You will sit with him 2 in the morning and he will be telling you about different areas on the Moon. Ok, the night before we did “Who Write The Songs” I was in his crib (if you can call a 14 or so room house a crib!!) and he was telling me about this equation by this scientist called Minkovski. He was drawing it out on a piece of paper and then telling me what it meant when it was implemented and how it affected science at the time. Then he was telling me what was going on the decade the equation was formulated and how peeps responded to it. He hadn’t written his rhyme for the song at this point, we were just talking about the human condition and other weird tish. The next day, we were in the studio and Bis spat the rhymes which I’m sure you know by now. Then he said, “I’m the living creation of the equation Minkovski formulated with an automated overbite” Then he looked at me and winked. The guy is incredible man, you literally have to see it to believe it. And he does everything in one take. No punches.

6. There’s been allot of talk that Canibus consults “books” when he writes his rhymes – any truth in that?

As my mother would say, that is complete and utter horse trot (laughs). I heard a rapper say that about Bis one time, and I never knew him then, and I thought… what if he doesn’t? Well I know Bis now and I’m here to tell you that he doesn’t. He literally has all of that information in his head. And he never forgets anything. The reason people say that is because what he rhymes about and his vocabulary are so far beyond people’s comprehension that as far as they’re concerned, he must be getting that info out of dictionaries and stuff, but anyone who converses with Bis will tell you that he is well informed and is easily the most well read person I know.

7. Most people only know Canibus as the serious type, but you hung-out with him during his stay in London so can you tell us a hilarious moment both of you shared?

There’s so many. Okay, one is when this guy pulled up to me who I haven’t seen in years. He’s like an O.G where we grow up, but I happen to know he fancied himself as an emcee back in the day, but I was like the only one he told back then. So at first he was speaking and because Bis was there, this guy’s voice was all deep and attitude having. Next minute, I was telling him that I remembered back in 89 when he thought he was a rapper, and I started spewing out one of his verses and teasing him, because my memory is SICK. I’ve never seen a grown man act so embarrassed, and Bis was laughing his head off. That tish was hilarious. He was going “Please Jeymes stop!!! Not in front of him PLEEEEEAAASSSEEE!!! Even the guy had to find it funny. It’s like you think you’re a good painter and next minute you’re in front of Van Gogh.

8. I understand MTV USA has accepted the ‘Who Write The Songs’ video, when can the US audience expect to see this on rotation?

Hopefully this week. The closed captioned BETA was delivered to MTV Friday, so you’ll be seeing it this week or so. The more peeps request it, the more it’s gon’ get played. I’m really happy that It’s my project that put Bis visually back in the mass public’s eye.

9. Do you and Canibus have any plans on doing appearances in the US to promote the song? If so, where will people be able to see you guys?

Most definitely. Peeps are organising P.A’s and promo for us now. You’re gonna see Bis come back in a BIG way man. The plans he is currently implementing are gonna see Bis exactly where we want him to be. And that isn’t to say that he isn’t satisfied with where he is now, but I for one know this man has so many ideas musically and visually that he deserves proper backing so all of us can experience the whole Canibus persona in THX 1138 Widescreen 35mm format, so to speak.

10. On a closing note, when can people pick up your album ‘Urban Folk Music’?

Late Summer. I have a couple more singles to drop. Another video is dropping out here in the next two weeks or so. I promise you this, no one is likely to hear an album like mine anytime soon. Sonically, it’s in a class of its own. “Urban Folk Music” is the blueprint and I promise you that if nothing else, by the time I’m finished, peeps will acknowledge Jeymes Samuel as an individual born out of a time of conformity.

I finally got Pitch Black's album, and it was ok. Nothing comes close to the greatness of "It's all real", but there are some pretty dope tracks. DG is probably the best MC out of the whole group. Check out his verse on "R U ready for this?" featuring Busta Rhymes. Friggin awesome. On an album with only 13 tracks, its a shame they let friggin Teddy Riley produce 2 songs. Those songs suck major ass. Overall, it was decent. Probably a low 7/10.

I also picked up "Hell on earth" by Mobb Deep. I'm digging the tracks with Raekwon and Method Man. "Still Shining" is ill too.

Kanye's whole gimmick is that he's the first mainstream/underground rapper. He's one of the first artists to be accepted by both underground heads and the masses. His lyrics and gimmick are that of a backpack rapper who's also living luxurious. He often poses in photos with a backpack, or rocks one at a show, to push the backpacker image.

Don't know what Attack of the Attacking Things is though.. and by Revolutionary Warfare Vol. 2, is that Immortal Technique?Yeah it's Immortal Technique...maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit with it, considering it's not even a year old (?), but it's a brilliant, brilliant album, and I'd consider it up there with the best. Attack Of The Attacking Things is Jean Grae - I think if the same album was released by a man, it'd be considered a classic, it's awesome.

I love It Was Written, but for me I Am... has more standout tracks. Small World is possibly my favourite Nas track, K-I-S-S-I-N-G is cheesy but excellent, Hate Me Now is just the sort of track that makes you want to jump about the place - when I saw Nas live in London this track got people bouncing more than any other. The collabos with Aaliyah, DMX and Scarface are all great, he managed to rehash NY State Of Mind and have it sound at least close to as good as one of the best hip-hop tracks ever made...there's no skip tracks on the album, for me that's the mark of something special. I'm surprised you don't think Internal Affaird is a classic, usually if someone's heard it, and is big into hip-hop, they name it as one of the classics. That's not meant in a 'you don't know your shit' kind of way, it's just usually the main reason that album doesn't get the credit it deserves is because it's so difficult to get hold of :D

SSLP, that's just a personal thing. That album is 'my shit', so to speak.

Kayne loves the gold and the cars. (He may talk about how they will take over from your want to rap interestingly, but he still loves them.) Kayne is Bling, not backpacker. Maybe not Bling but far more Bling than backpacker. He dresses well for one...

Method man recorded half of his new album in "daddy's house" recording studio. Its obvious from the first second and has everything from bad beats, bad lyrics, to bad guest spots. If puffy breathing deeply over tracks isn't bad enough, we got Missy and Diddy. WHY? And Snoop. WHY? And why on the RedNMeth track. The RednMeth track was below par compared to blackout. It sounds like a west coast funk reject.

The album fucking sucks and I'm not gonna waste any more time explaining why unless someone defends it. Method didn't make the effort so why should I.

I hate Meth for this album. I mean I paid for it maan, fuck.

 1/5 Meth has gone for the gold, and the way of the wack rapper.

PackFM Bio What does FM stand for? That is the question that PackFM hopes you will seek to answer on his debut full-length project whutduzFMstand4? This young Brooklyn MC is already off to an exceptional start in his musical career, and he is ready to take on the world.

In 1997 his first recorded song, “Hit List”, was played on New York’s Hot 97’s now defunct Home Jams show. The song became an underground hit, and was played for four consecutive weeks during the final month of the Home Jams show. It created considerable buzz among underground Hip Hop heads in New York. In May of ‘98 he also appeared on the B-side single “Lifestyles of the Poor Wit’ a Fortune”, which was released by Ope Entertainment. "I was influenced by acts like A Tribe Called Quest, EPMD, and Big Daddy Kane," explains PackFM, "so every time I make a song my goal is to make music the way they imagined Hip Hop to be fifteen years later"

PackFM began his distinguished battle career early, including such titles as ‘88HipHop MC Battle Champion’, which he held for four undefeated months until retiring and being placed in their Hall Of Fame. He was the last man standing out of 32 MC's in the legendary ‘Braggin’ Rites’ tournament. In 1999 he swept the competition at ‘Next Generation Battle’ at the Nuyorican Poets Café. He also won the TDK sponsored ‘24 Hour MC Battle’ an astounding three months in a row, and was featured along with previous winners in XXL Magazine.

In 2000, PackFM collaborated with Tonedeff to compete in the Napster/Rapstation.com ‘Power To The People And Beats’ contest. Their track was chosen among the top six out of over 80 contestants. That same year he was a finalist in the Rock Steady Crew’s annual MC Battle, and then placed 2nd out of 100 MCs in the Source Magazine’s ‘Unsigned Hype Live MC Battle Tournament’. After that huge accomplishment, he took a long break from battling, only to return for a triumph in the 2003 ‘Everlast Harlem Lyricist Championship’.

Countless victories in the battle circuit caught the attention of a few independent filmmakers. PackFM was featured in the award-winning Dutch documentary Kika NY, and appeared in the acclaimed independent film Freestyle alongside Pharoahe Monch, Mos Def, Supernatural, The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac. Freestyle was featured in the Sundance Film Festival in 1999, and received praise from the critics for it’s raw portrayal of hardcore battle emcees.

Although an accomplished battle rapper and performer, PackFM is out to prove that there are still talented live MC's who can make classic songs. "I haven’t been in a battle in well over a year, but people still remember me from the battles rather than my records,” he says. “So many people feel that MC's who are good at battling and freestyling are incapable of making records, which isn’t always true...there is so much more that I'm capable of.”

Not only has PackFM proven his talents in the battle circuit, but he has consistently shown his ability to move the crowd on stage, performing alongside some of Hip Hop’s finest, including M.O.P., Rahzel, Mad Skillz, Heltah Skeltah, Brand Nubian, the Beatnuts, Slick Rick and Common, just to name a few.

Often described as witty and crafty, his clever lyricism has been featured on various projects and 12”s, including his debut SOLO 12” single, “Freestyle Marathon”. He came together with Tonedeff, Substantial and Session as Extended F@mm to release the highly acclaimed EP Happy F*ck You Songs. The EP created such a strong buzz, it earned the foursome a feature in ‘Off the Radar’ in the Source Magazine’s March 2003 issue. He was also featured prominently in spots on MTV’s Hip Hop Week with Wordsworth and fellow QN5 label mates Tonedeff and Mecca.

Additionally he has headlined and released a popular series of mixtapes entitled Featured Material, Volumes 1 and 2. Featured Material Volume 3 drops late June 2003, and features Jean Grae, Last Emperor, Bad Seed, Tonedeff and J.U.I.C.E.

whutduzFMstand4? Is a break from the trend of slaphappy raps and sugary beats that has flooded the industry as of late. The album will be released in Fall 2004, with the lead single “Forevershine,” b/w “Upclose and Personal” featuring Substantial of Extended F@mm and “Set It Up” featuring Chicago's freestyle phenom J.U.I.C.E., dropping in June 2004.

I just finished talking with iCON the Mic King, an underground hip hopper from Philly, on AIM just a few minutes ago. Everyone should pick up his new CD, the Intricate Spectrum EP. It is definitely worth it and I have only heard the snippets so far. It will only put you back 10 bucks. Unfortunately the dude is best known for being suckerpunched by Vinnie Paz for stealing the Icon part of his name I guess. Paz is such an idiot. But I hear he is a nice guy from those who have met him.

Anyways, back to iCON the Mic King.....

Here is the majority of his work that is worth picking up. You will have a hell of a time trying to download it and I can pretty much tell you it will be impossible to download the Intricate Spectrum EP for a long while. Simon and anyone else, I can send you "Ahead of My Time" (produced by Tonedeff and Kno) and "Ides of March" off of Rent Money Music if you want it.

Rent Money Music: " Much like PackFM's "Featured Material" series or Tonedeff's "Hyphen" EP, iCON has collected various guest appearances, freeverses, radio drops, and songs that otherwise be homeless on one CD.
The release featues: Jin, Breez Evahflowin, Poison Pen, Pumpkinhead, Extended F@mm, Cunninlynguists, Mecca, Kameel-yen, Elite, Squijee, Shambhala, and NOBS. Features production from Cheapshot, Kno, Trends, Zeeby Zeeb, The Moth, Surge Cess, Malak Akbar, and Shambhala."

Intricate Spectrum EP: "iCON's debut EP featuring no one BUT iCON the Mic King. Beats from Mr. Burns, Chum the Skrilla Guerilla, Zeeby Zeeb, DJ Trends, Amplifya, Lazarus Divine, and Godamus Rhyme."

IndieInBurns single: iCON's second 12" featuring C-Rayz Walz with production by Blockhead (of Aesop Rock fame). IndieInBurns ft. C-Rayz Walz (prod Blockhead) b/w You Don't Want It" (prod Zeeby Zeeb) & "Art Imitates Life"(prod Black Panther)

Ghostface's album is shit hot after a few listens, I was drunk when I heard it the first few times so I dunno...maybe I wasn't paying attention cuz I was reading a book too.

I like Tush...it's a bloody good song (Y)

I bought Big L's "The Big Picture" purely because I heard Freestyle '98 a while ago and it's possibly my favourite freestyle of all time, and I do good freestyles myself!
Great album, the guy had a totally unique and impeccable flow and it's such an easy to listen to album as a result.

I also got D12 World and haven't listened to it yet, the only reason is that I'm in Canada right now and CD's are cheap as hell.

Here's the scoop folks. Straight from Jeymes Samuel (only a select few know his identity on the C-C boards, he posts with a girl's name to keep himself on the down low):

Jeymes Samuel had the WWTS beat over 2 YEARS before INS. Ayatollah himself would concur. Ayatollah actually made that beat in 1997. Jeymes heard it on a beat CASSETTE (as far back as 1999) that belonged to super engineer Carlisle Young (who actually named Ayatollah. Before Carlisle, Tollah's name was Kool G). Tollah couldn't even FIND the floppy disk because he had made it so long before. Jeymes forced him to dig it up and WENT TO HIS CRIB TO HELP HIM. They found the tish buried under some old vinyl. Jeymes took it to the studio and vocaled the joint. It was originally to be called Battle Royale and was to feature Jeymes, Bis and Lord Have Mercy. Anyways, Jeymes finally vocaled the track and flew to ATL with Carlisle Young where they recorded Bis. This was in April 2001. That's how long before INS Jeymes' track was.

What happened according to Ayatollah was that Tollah had played the track to Black Shawn (Then Head Of A&R at Rawkus) so Black could release it as a twelve on his label. Black Shawn then played the joint for INS and sold it behind Tollah's back to INS and didn't even pay Tollah with the proceedings. It's obvious INS heard Jeymes' version because on his chorus he is saying "Who Got It?" as opposed to Jeymes' "I Got Those Baby", which is Jeymes quoting Ayatollah's most spoken phrase... "Don't sleep man, I got those".

Anyone who has any doubts need only to check the original slated release date for the Late Night Tales compilation or ask Ayatollah himself!! It is common knowledge whom the track belongs to because of the various people involved in the tracks recording in some way or another. 50 Cent's manager Sha Money XL was actually in the studio with Carlisle, Tollah and Jeymes when they were laying it down. Pharoahe Monch will also concur as Jeymes and Tollah met and gave him the instrumental of the joint long before it even had Canibus on it.

Jeymes Samuel could not be reached for comment... because Efective wasn't around at the time. Hey, Efective may indeed be Jeymes Samuel. I mean, they're never in the same place at the same time... interesting

Why do you idiots buy into the shitty G-Unit hype and leave someone like say, Brother Ali, completely unnoticed?

It is sickening. Kind of like my infatuation with Canibus.

Damn, Someone gots their panties in a bunch. Why are you generalizing me into a group you jackass? I listen to all types of hip hop artists ranging from Talib Kweli, Mos Def to Eminem and YES lloyd banks. And By the way, I said lloyd banks album was decent. I stand by it. Fuck you and Cannibus. Ive seen Seventh graders push more units than Cannibus.

And Yeah, LL OWNS CANNIBUS for life even though he raps about lipstick and highheels.

d) 'Chico & The Man' Becomes An LP - It's Bigger Than An EP!

http://www.tonedeff.com/pics/p_catm_02.jpgThere's been a bit of talk here and there about the upcoming joint project between Kno & Tonedeff called Chico & The Man (aka CATM).

Originally slated to be a an EP project, CATM would see a focused effort by both artists on 1 particular facet of the music - Namely, Tonedeff on the mic and Kno strictly on production. If you've ever listened to Tonedeff on anything Kno has done, you'd know why this record will be such a treat.

"We've decided to turn the EP into a full-blown album. The shit we've come up with is already worthy of more than just a collection of a couple songs." Tone says of the new project. "Kno is a fucking beast when it comes to producing full albums, so you know that this record is really going to push the boundaries - and that's something we love to do."

There is no release date for this project yet. But most likely, you'll hear the first hint of CATM on the upcoming Asterisk:Three compilation (Summer 04).

And CollegeGraduate, chill man. You shouldn't even have made yourself worthy of a response but since I take all comers I guess I'll give you a moment. First off, there really isn't any difference in the artists you named other thano. Sure there are considerable talent differences but they are still all right in the public's eye. Try going a little deeper with your examples before trying to brag about your diverse knowledge in hip hop.

You are right. Canibus is horrible. I have said that many times before so I really don't get what you are trying to tell me. But since when did how many units sold become the basis of talent? I must have missed that memo. And just for your info, he has gone gold. That would be 500,000 plus albums sold and that only represents the number counted on Soundscan. But yeah, he sucks now. Selling only 50,000 per album independently is so pathetic.

So yes, Canibus may suck. But C-C still has the illest internet emcees to ever grace a hip hop forum. And you will never hear none of them. Because.........
You evil little man

I'm going out now but when I get back, you are so banned

And its you wannabe underground hip hop fanatics that is one of the problems in hiphop today. I am not going to diss any underground talent because I know their is quaLity talent and people busting their ASS to get out of the underground. You do realize that all the artists you mention and blow air up their asses are attempting to make it into the mainstream right? So when they go mainstream are you gonna fall off their nuts? You dissing me for enjoying mainstream hiphop is amusing. For the record, I never based talent on record sales. If that was the case, Nelly would be one of the best hip hop artists in the game which is false. However, artists with repeated success and have had longterm stay in the game, talking about multiple albums, are some of the best artists. See Nas, Jay Z, Em, Talib Kweli, Krs One, and such. Indeed, Cannibus does suck. True, He posseses minor lyrical skill but who cares, LL still owns him.

P.S Just because I am not familiar with the more underground rappers does not make me less of a hip hop enthusiast than you. You're arrogrant attitude and self-rightousness is idiotic.

Universal...thanks for the support assholes. The final verse of 2nd Round K.O that was not cleared by his label.

I'll battle you on the net
I'll battle you in the flesh
I'll battle you over the phone, you can call me collect
I'll battle you for the respect
I'll battle you over a blank check
I'll battle you with a gun to my neck
'Cause battling's my favorite hobby
That's probably why you despise me
We can battle in Hot 97's lobby
Constantly battling, out in the streets
Or Battle of The Beats, we can let Angie referee
Inside the jail yard fence, prisoners look tense
Armed with shanks waiting for the battle to commence
Ladies and gents,
pick up the phone and call and decide with the highest
pennant and decide the wench
Lowest versus the highest, I'll start a riot
You're a virus, you run around screaming "Stop The Violence"
I rip mics tighter than pliers
You say you the greatest of all time
You're a liar, your time's expired
You no longer have what Hip Hop requires, so retire

Out of curiosity, is Cannibus considered mainstream ?Yes and no. I mean, he definitely was at one time. Everyone who was a hip hop head in 97/98 knows who he is. But I don't know if an artist in any genre has ever been blackballed the way he has since the LL beef. Def Jam/Russell Simmons had him completely erased from the mainstream's eye and ear. And if you want reasoning, I think Canibus himself says it best in Get Off Ya Knees....

My opponents are so intent, not to show respect
They fret cause I'm a global threat
I'm so hard to catch, {like} a covert celeb
I relocate so quick they can't close the net
I expose the press, dispose of the prints
On the loose again, nobody knows what's next
My virus infects
Every machine with clandestine speech
Get Off Ya Knees!

Basically, he is saying emcees out there do not respect what he does and Bis is saying that is really because what he does will overshadow what they are doing. In other words Bis is saying he is so good that other half-ass emcees that are tasting success are worried about Bis getting out to the mainstream as it would belittle their supposed talent. He says that these same opponents are trying to catch him and accuse him of things (to keep his name underground) but he is too quick and on to the next thing. It is like he moves in for a strike and is gone before anyone knows what happened. The Eminem feud is a bit of an example. Eminem made a full-fledged diss and Canibus was already in the army. Exposing the press is sort of how Bis likes to bring knowledge of the industry and he is referencing his superior skill/craft. The machines are either people (that are infected once they hear his work) or the machines could be stereo systems while the clandestine speech is describing the level of skill he displays in his lyrics (as the true meaning is often hidden, secret or needs to be deciphered). That is kind of the image I got.

So in conclusion, as an indie artist it is impossible for him to sell like he is mainstream (I am still amazed I was able to buy MiClub: The Curriculum and RtJ at Meijer's) but the mainstream sure as hell know where he is and how to keep him off the radio and television.

Depends who you ask and where they come from.

Canibus is gravy and clearly you haven't given him enough of a listen, possibly no listens - you just have to listen to the craftwork behind the lines.

Rap is good when it involves plenty of inginuity, not when people sound like they're just speaking quickly. If Canibus spoke the lines that he raps then he'd be a poet, that's the difference.

Then why in God's name would you use the term "minor lyrical skill"?

You fiend.

Bit harsh to call him a fiend though.

You may just want to wonder why you've been dealt only one bollock before calling another man a fiend in the future!

I only have one Canibus album, Can-I-Bus, but I must say I wish I had more. He is a pretty amazing rapper. Lyrically, he is unmatched in his creativity and flow. Any true fan of rap, even if they didnt care for him still has to give Canibus much credit for being an excellent rapper lyrically. The problem is that mainstream rap is more about having great production and beats than supreme lyricism. I dont care who is rapping over Dr Dre's beats, he will sell millions, heck even 50 cent did that and he sucks.

I dont know if its just me but is anybody else really sick of rappers coming out with groups after the become famous, letting their buddies ride their success, ala D12, G Unit.

One last thing I dont care who it is, any rapper thats name starts with Lil, sucks. Whether it be jon, wayne, flip, bow wow, romeo, white, hell theres too f-ing many to count.

Just because I listened to him does not mean I like him. And yes, I believe his lyrical abilities are greatly overrated and he feels he needs to be poetic and absurd in his lyrics which I really do find annoying. The man can flow, but his lyrics are subpar IMHO. Please Lynch me for having an opinion.
