I had so much respect for you, DVDA.

They made shitty pop music and get called the greatest band of all time. You can tell by my avy that I'm a Pink Floyd guy. The band that actually is the greatest of all time.

It's hard to argue that The Beatles aren't one of the greatest bands of all time so it's for sure understandable why they get the respect they do. In terms of hits, record sales, INFLUENCE, and that last part goes a long way because IMO they influenced probably 90% of the artists that came out after them in some way. Even indirectly artists have been influenced by being influenced by bands who were inspired by The Beatles. They weren't the first, they weren't the last, but the impact is undeniable and ranks up there in the top 5, maybe top 3 of any genre of music. That's why a band like Pink Floyd won't get that level of respect, their influence and impact doesn't reach like The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Elvis, but no fucking question they are incredible and one of my all time favorites over any artist I've mentioned in this post.

G-Fresh
January 7th, 2015, 11:19 AM
I'm not arguing that they weren't the most influential. Pink Floyd were never really about singles. The ones they did release before Syd left like See Emily Play, Arnold Layne, & Apples & Oranges all had the Brit pop sound and that's probably because of Syd's love of the Beatles. Roger and the others were all about them too. Talent though.....Floyd smashes them. They pretty much smash everybody. There ain't a guitarist alive now or ever better than David Gilmour. Syd and Roger were/are lyrical geniuses and all of them were/are amazing vocalists.

Yep. I agree my brother. Floyd are an amazing band to listen to, it's like they tap into that part of your brain that doesn't mind going on a musical journey for a few hours.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think they're the greatest band of all time, but they made more than shitty pop music. Most of their pop stuff were their first 3 albums, and after that they started getting more edge and creating wonderful music, music that pushed the bars of creativity, much like Pink Floyd did.

Is his CD any good? Not had a chance to listen yet but the one review I read of it criticised it for being dated...tbh anything that harks back to the 90s is a good thing in my book.

I would say it doesn't venture far from his other projects in that it's a gritty but sometimes dull 90s sound. It's his best yet IMO but not quite next level compared to his others and some might prefer 1999. I enjoy it since I love that era and he is a great lyricist. I disagree with s_o_f though, Teach Me (which is a bonus track) is not one of my favorites. that hook and beat are pretty cheesy. Paper Trail$ is an arguable song of the year candidate tho

On first couple of listens the first half is really strong but it drags a little as it goes on. Really solid stuff though, unsurprisingly.

Certainly great, dunno about greatest, probably most underrated (never talked about alongside the greats) and comfortably makes my top 10 of all time, with Capital Punishment probably scraping top 5 hip-hop albums. Pretty much had it all too, he could run with the gangsta rap stuff but was witty with it ("hit him with a thousand pounds of pressure per slap/make his whole body jerk back/watch the earth crack and hand him his purse back"). I'm a bit of a bumlicker for Pun but yeah he was pure fire, the video for It's So Hard still gets me emotional, much loved in hip-hop by the look of it.

You seen the cypher from years ago with DMX, Mos Def, Canibus and Pun? Pun fucking blows the rest away. Insane.

I was taking a trip through the music videos on my OnDemand service through my cable provider in a section called "Havoc TV" which has some really good shit spanning 4-5 decades with live performances and actual music videos. Stumbled across the cat who walked out with Stephan Bonnar at the Bellator fight against Tito, a rapper named Stitches. They had his video for "Brick In Yo Face" and holy shit Idk if this dude is a parody or what but it reminded me of that dude who had the Vine videos going "gratata foo foo lame niggaz", super white dude with a Connor McGregor tat on his chest lol. The video was so dumb, dude was wearing a Pinhead mask at one point throwing "cocaine" all over the place, holding up AK-47's and shit. It can't be real can it?

Yeah I mean the reason I even bothered to watch was because he came out with Bonnar and did a horrible lyp synch job, it was terrible, and then I'm like wait this dude actually has a video that made it on Havoc? So again, I'm not sure if he's serious or just making fun of rappers idk, either way I can also appreciate it if he's that hardcore. AK 47 tats on his cheeks....And when I first heard the song I thought it was about bashing someone with a brick but naw it's just about a brick of cocaine.

I think there are about 200 people who have heard more than those 2 songs of his. That video is crazy and hilarious. I feel for the chick and she deserves to sue but at the same time she shouldn't have been on the stage to begin with. Granted I don't know the details of that venue and what the normal protocol is but you don't just go on stage at a performance, also where was security? Afroman shouldn't have been in a position where HE had to deal with fans jumping on stage, security should have handled it. Then again he is such a nobody artist that maybe there wasn't any security present.

Pretty awesome Kendrick shouted out Killer Mike on Hood Politics.

Not enjoying this album quite as much as everyone else.

I mostly just like the last half but I do like King Kunta and Alright too.

With the first half I get the same annoying feeling I got with Yeezus of not letting the verses breathe a lot of the time and just saying random repetitive shit for no reason.

u is not a good song. It could have been though.

I wanted more songs like the first half of Mortal Man.

damn you guys trippin. the yelling and emotion is kinda the whole point of that song. and it's the song that's referenced in so many other songs on that repeating interlude.

Found myself screamin' in the hotel room
I didn't wanna self destruct
The evils of Lucy was all around me
So I went runnin' for answers
Until I came home

the contrast between u and i is a big part of the album. but aside from that, I just think the song is pretty good on its own

I don't go out of my way to listen to Ludacris but I respect the fuck out of his hustle to get where he's at. Going from radio dj to selling his records out of his trunk to some decent supporting roles in movies.

Nothing wrong with Ludacris. He's never going to drop anything conscious the way Nas did or Kendrick does, but he's about as good as pop-rap gets. Hard beats and consistently great punchlines.

I'll admit I have really no memory of any Ludacris music since "Move Bitch, get out the way", I know he did a song with Justin Bieber, but the first couple hits he had I was feeling. Like you said, hard beats, great punchlines, I like his voice and delivery. I always liked his track "Fat Rabbit", Timbaland production is usually a win-win for me dating back to that Timbaland and Magoo stuff.

He can rap his ass off. That doesn't mean he makes good music. Just like Tech N9ne.

I agree with that. For every good Tech song there's about 2 albums worth that just sound the exact same and while I think Tech is very talented it's like how I feel about guitarists like Steve Vai. Can play the shit out of a guitar but their songs suck.

While I disagree on Steve Vai having sucky songs, I completely agree on Tech N9ne. After Absolute power, it feels like he has so much filler, and even on that album and some of his older stuff, there's so much garbage surrounding the gems. I think Anghellic is the only album of his I fully appreciate.

His debut album comes out June 2nd. That's his first collaboration with a big hip-hop act, and he's playing a show with Ghostface, GZA and Cappadonna on Sunday. Produces his own beats, is just barely 18/19, and he gets better with every release. The kid's got fire.

The rest of the BKR$CLB group is tight, too, but Fresco's the starting point. I think he's gonna end up getting pretty big in time.

What pisses me off is that Insane Poetry are legends, at least to me, Cyco and the crew were doing some darker stuff back in the early early 90's and they don't get a 10th of the respect they deserve. Part of me thinks its because Cyco fucks with LSP and while they move quite a bit of merch and cd's, they're still considered underground horrorcore.com rappers. You won't see Scum on the main stage, but damn man you should see Insane Poetry on the main stage. But the same fucking shit happened when Mastamind of Natas wanted a spot on the main stage and they were like "naw", like Esham was the only dude worth a damn from that crew lol. Yet they'll let Tila Tequila get a main stage spot.

The issue I have with Chronic 2001 is that it just didn't live up to the wait lol. It had sick beats, but like DVDA said maybe 5 songs on it were good if that. The Chronic flowed together so well and pretty much every song and the skits were top notch. 2001 just felt like it could've been better but like the first one, it also seemed to showcase Dre's new artists like Xzibit and Eminem so that was kind of cool.

TPAB is obviously #1. Pilot Talk III, If You're Reading This and Snoop's Bush have probably got the most listens after that. Oh and the Ugly Mane tape but that's different. B4.DA.$$ is solid but I haven't returned to it in a while. Same with the Lupe album.

Mr. Wonderful has a couple of fun songs but much of the record is incredibly annoying. FILA was blah.

Plus I like the drama of it- especially in this case with Nicki in the middle since her and Drake are label mates and frequent collaborators and who knows if they banged. It's streaming on iTunes now. That moment when you're about to listen to a new Dr. Dre album...

3rd listen this album is open fire. I was expecting G funk/ 2001 beats and features, but when I listened to it again damn, production is hot and Dr. Dre went all in on his verses. Snoop killed that verse in One Shot One kill(biggest surprise of the album, lol), and the new talent Dr.Dre recruited on the album(Jon Connor, Anderson Paak, King Mez) just proves that hip-hop is in good hands after Dr.Dre leaves the game.

I guess to me the first two albums have a common sound, were more light hearted in general, and I would call them 'fun' albums start to finish.

This is definitely not that. The production ranges from track to track, and it's really a commentary on the forgotten and ignored black ghettos of Los Angeles. They're right though when they say that everyone brought their A game. Even Eminem has probably his best verse in over a decade.

I saw a reddit comment that summed up the album well, especially the difference between it and his first 2 albums:

This album lacks anthems. It lacks those epic classic Dre singles that still rock car stereos 15 or 25 years later. There's no Still DRE, Next Episode, Forgot About Dre, Nuthin But A G Thang, Let's Ride, or Dre Day. And that is mainly because a lot of the songs are too "busy", there's little in the way of traditional song structure, songs have different hooks, bridges, codas, different breaks between verses, songs are all over the place. The song structuring is reminiscent of TPAB but even more scatter shot. It makes for a good and interesting album, and this album works best as an album (as in listened to as a whole) but by themselves these songs are not anthems. But the album is consistent and never bad, or even really average. Its consistently very good, with production that is meant to bang out of good car stereos or high quality headphones. The album is very Kendrick influenced with the raps as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Kendrick wrote all of Dre's raps on this. Dre goes slow than fast than slow again, does "voices", does multiple flows, seems like Dre's voice was probably even altered on post (to make it seem higher; it was definitely altered in some places to add those vocal effects and echoes and shit). The album is 2001 evolved to 2015 spliced with GKMC/TPAB with a dash of Anderson Paak.

Thanks for all the kind, loving uplifting words of encouragement and appreciation. . Its this connection that brought me this far and its what will make continuing on effortless. I never wanted to stop doing KMK but have been forced to make this decision out of respect for myself. Its a long long list of reasons . One dudes delusional vision and a couple followers that wouldn't even speak up for me or have my back..these are guys I would of died for , guys I let practically live at my house from time to time. Its takes 2: to have brotherhood & it takes more than one to have family,if im the only one with enough heart or balls to say what is soooo obviously wrong with with our group and the way its being run then I gotta go. Yall dont want me involved in shit and wanna tell me lies, keep secrets.and actually never come with any contracts or paperwork. Just got back from seeing Oddisee at The Jazz Cafe in Camden tonight. Great show, full band, the dude is seriously talented. Spits way faster live, almost like a BUsat Rhymes speed.

Not one to paste videos from gigs as I hate people filming, but this is one someone took; https://instagram.com/p/7d1QTcpptC/

so The Game released The Documentary 2 and The Documentary 2.5. Basically it's a double disc but he released them 1 at a time, a week apart. Anyway I copped the first disc because I heard good things and it's really good. It has a couple lulls in the second half but all in all definitely worth a listen. The first 9 tracks are great. I haven't listened to disc 2 yet (2.5) but he said the first disc was supposed to be more for the fans and the second disc for himself.

On the breakfast club yesterday, they asked Wale about the meek/drake thing and Wale said that Meek brought a pencil to a gun fight. Meek responded by crying about it on Instagram and saying that he was gonna kick Wale off the label. Rick Ross just shut him down by posting a video saying that Wale is not getting kicked off the record and he's squashing the beef for them.

Meek just keeps swinging, but can't hit a damn thing.
