He's a rapper from Florida. He was a hype man for Jumpsteady back in the day. Only reason I posted it was cause of his affiliation with Jumpsteady and Psychopathic Records and her connection to ICP.

So everyone has probably heard about this by now but Kanye's album is apparently called Yeezus (release date June 18) and he debuted 2 new songs on SNL, and they were both really fucking dope. He also did an advertising thing where he projected his head onto the sides of 66 different buildings around the world, and there's talk that he won't release any singles before the album drops. As long as he keeps putting out incredible music (Cruel Summer aside, though it wasn't bad), I don't really care what the hell he does.

I heard it and then got pissed that it was only 2mins. :shakefist: He killed that.

As for Kanye I've only heard bad SNL rip versions of the songs but the names are so pretentious I don't even care to hear the good quality versions right now. Maybe when the album leaks.

Not sure if they could be considered hip hop as such but there is certainly elements of hip hop in their music. So.....death grips! Holy fuck! Why have I not bothered my fanny with this before? Absolutely amazing music!

Going to see ASAP on Sunday and Danny Brown in a couple of weeks.

Danny Brown is working with Rustie as well apparently which is soooo bloody exciting for me. Rustie for those who don't know is a producer from glasgow who's beats are based in dubstep, hip hop, electronica, breakbeat and zelda. It's a fucking match made in heaven! Can't wait to hear some stuff from the two of them.

Also, I gotta recommend this tape. Ken Rebel. 18 year old kid from New York with some impressive skills. He's not necessarily going to blow your mind like Joey Badass, but he's got talent and insane amounts of potential. Production is great throughout the entire tape. Check the video below for a preview of what you can expect, but I really recommend checking the whole thing.

I know there are a lot of these out there, but I always find it interesting to hear Em laying down a verse for Dre on a reference track. He lowers his voice and tries to sound like Dre, it's pretty funny to hear. This is an early version of Crack a Bottle with Em spitting his own verse, Dre's, and a second Dre verse which got cut and replaced by 50. I think this has been floating around for a while but this is a nice no-DJ version. As an aside, this song always got way too much hate on the internet. The final version was a great comeback single.

Considering how infinitely better MBDTF was than Cole World, that's surprising. That said I'm looking forward to Born Sinner too, although I was disappointed to hear that he's not having any guest rappers on it. Cole rapping for 70 minutes by himself is a powerful sleep aid.

I'm waiting on a deluxe group rip for the Cole, but I've been hearing mainly positive things about it, and that it's better than Cole World.

Ringo

Yeah I hear the production is good. And unlike many I don't find him to be a boring emcee. So I'm looking forward to listening.

Fro
June 8th, 2013, 1:53 PM
Yeah I think the boring knock on him is overstated, he's definitely a good MC and good lyricist (seems like every veteran MC lists Cole when asked about which new artists they dig, I've heard Em, Royce, Nas, DMX all mention him)... but he doesn't have a ton to rap about since his story is rather plain. Cole World has some great tracks but listening to it from start to end is a chore.

Side note, I love the Warm Up but I never understood the love for Friday Night Lights.

I'm just now digging into Action Bronson's stuff after hearing him on features all of the place for the last year or two. When I first found out he was a fat white man I was pretty shook. He sounds like Ghostface with a little Fat Joe.

What do you guys think his best project is?

Ringo
June 11th, 2013, 7:36 PM
He sounds so much like Ghostface that he might as well be a Ghostface tribute act these days. But I am keen to hear more of Harry Fraud's accessible production (the Danny Brown and Wiz tracks off the recent Fraud mixtape caught my attention right away) and I think they'll work well together. Gonna give it a go tomorrow. Enjoyed both Rare Chandeliers (with The Alchemist) and Blue Chips (with Party Supplies), Dr. Lecter as well but not so much. Rare Chandeliers probably had the most staying power... :dunno:

The NY Times Kanye interview. Absolutely superb.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/16/arts/music/kanye-west-talks-about-his-career-and-album-yeezus.html

Some highlights:

"It’s only led me to complete awesomeness at all times. It’s only led me to awesome truth and awesomeness. Beauty, truth, awesomeness. That’s all it is."

"Creative output, you know, is just pain. I’m going to be cliché for a minute and say that great art comes from pain. But also I’d say a bigger statement than that is: Great art comes from great artists. "

"When you think about it, I was wearing like, a Juicy Couture men’s polo shirt. We weren’t there, like, ready for war."

"Architecture — you know, this one Corbusier lamp was like, my greatest inspiration. "

"If you don’t make Christmas presents, meaning making something that’s so emotionally connected to people, don’t talk to me"

"Why do you want to control me? Like, I want the world to be better! All I want is positive! All I want is dopeness! Why would you want to control that?"

"I will be the leader of a company that ends up being worth billions of dollars, because I got the answers. I understand culture. I am the nucleus."

6 DAYS.

Going to listen to the deluxe edition now. I liked Cold World a bunch and after the first few listens I was still leaning towards that one. But the tracks I initially dismissed are growing on me now. Rather than expecting a full hour of Cole and no one else to be hard to get through, I'm left wanting more.

"Let Nas Down" (sampling FELA KUTI ffs) and "Forbidden Fruit" (ATCQ) are particularly terrific. "She Knows" too. And obviously "Power Trip" is a worthy single (well it does feature Miguel ).

...

"Saaab Stories" is the best thing Bronson has put out yet. Fraud is on a roll.

Well so far it's killing me. Absolutely loving this. I see where his "I'm a black new wave artist" comment came from. This is like an angrier 808s. Some comments about this version of Black Skinhead not being as intense as the SNL performance, but it still hits hard. I'm playing this loud. STILL MY LIQUOR into I'M IN IT was great. Up to track 7. Only 40 minutes long but that might be perfect.

Loving Yeezus. It's quite different than anything he's done before, it's like 808s + Cruel Summer + extra TNGHT influence. Very busy, very complex, which is interesting with the recent news of Rick Rubin coming in to do his old school "reduced by Rick Rubin" stuff and make it more minimal. It's hard to imagine what the record was like beforehand.. sure there are a handful of sparse moments, specifically on Black Skinhead, but "minimal" is probably one of the last words I would use to describe this record.

The transitions on "On Site" and "New Slaves" are beautiful, I could listen to clips of those on repeat.

"Hold My Liquor" is incredible. Chief Keef and Bon Iver sounded so bizarre on paper, but it actually works well. I like Keef's hook a lot, probably better that he didn't have a verse on there. Although the fact that he was flown to Paris to record that is pretty funny

"Send It Up" has the potential to be huge.

Just some early thoughts. Also, I'm realizing for me personally, Ye may never top his Dark Fantasy run. I'd rank the last few projects like this... Dark Fantasy > Throne > Yeezus > Cruel Summer.

Wu-Tang forever bruh. One random thought about the Wu... I love Ghost and he has the strongest discography of the bunch, but I feel like he's flowed the same way so prolifically that I'm no longer interested in his new work despite being a huge fan and having purchased 5 or 6 of his albums in the past. I've had my fill. Could say the same about Talib Kweli to some extent, though that song he put out this year produced by RZA was sick.

Nas's remix to Let Nas Down is fucking phenomenal.

I'm gonna take this thread back to old days with a track by track review:

YEEZUS
1. On Sight - Very interesting opening track. Ye spits some of the most normal rap verses on the album and sounds good over the electronic beat. The problem with this song which I mentioned earlier is that the synth has (I suppose intentionally) shitty sound quality and the bass parts don't sound good. I don't know if that's a nod to the electronic genre or what but it knocks what could have been a really amazing intro track down a notch and I think even ruined it for a lot of people. Kanye has used scratchy vocals a bunch in the past so this might be in that same vein, trying to sound old school or like being in a club. Sort of a missed opportunity but I can still get down with it. 8/10

2. Black Skinhead - Love it. The beat is banging. Awesome drums, sounds like something off a Black Keys or Jack White album. This song could be a big hit if it ever gets released as a single. Despite the controversial name it's got great crossover appeal. Def Jam must be dying to get this on the radio. 10/10

3. I Am a God - This song is chant-y but the one sustained verse is pretty good. The beat is forgettable but not bad. It fits in with the album but as a stand alone song it's only decent. 7/10

4. New Slaves - This is my favorite song on the album and it succeeds with the minimalist style remarkably well. The soulful end part is great in contrast to the rest of the song. 10/10

5. Hold My Liquor - I'm a bit torn on this one. The Chief Keef autotune hook succeeds while showing how anyone can do what Future does. The beat is trippy, on a Pink Floyd tip at times, and it sounds pretty good but maybe didn't need to go on so long. 7.5/10

6. I'm In It - This shit bangs hard. The reggae and singing parts are a little boring but strong track. 8/10

7. Blood on the Leaves - The auto-tune parts are good for that style (though a little too lengthy and familiar sounding) and the beat hits hard (love it when it first drops in). By the time you're 3 minutes in you're thinking fuck I wish this was used for a rap song instead of just auto tune but then he gives you a solid verse toward the end. 8.5/10

8. Guilt Trip - Eh, this song is listenable but nothing special. 5/10

9. Send it Up - This beat is fucking sick. Probably the best straight up beat on the album. This is my first time hearing the much mentioned King Louie and he delivers well enough with the only guest rap verse on the album. If this was extended maybe with one more guest verse like Pusha or someone it could have been an all time classic cut. It's too short! But very dope. 9/10

10. Bound 2 - Terrific closer, definitely in the traditional Kanye style which is always great to hear. 10/10

That's an average of 8.3/10 which seems about right. Short and sweet is better than dragged out so I don't mind that it's only 40 minutes (see the last two Roots albums), but there are some tracks which are so good that you wish they were 4 minutes instead of 3. It gains points for being a very cohesive and fresh sound that I think realistically could be a trend setter just like 808s was (though it would be hard to match the immense influence that album had, for better or worse). In a year we'll probably be hearing similar hard thumping beats and electronic elements on Wayne and Ross albums. It loses points, though, for being a fairly weak lyrical album.

Final score: 8.3/10

The best thing I can say about Yeezus is hurry up with my damn croissants is line of the album and funny as shit.

Otherwise, the screaming is annoying and some of it just seems lazy:

Mi casa, su casa
That's that cosa nostra

I'm not even going to give it a rating, I'll say I like Born Sinner more though.

Fro
June 23rd, 2013, 10:47 PM
I would give Born Sinner an even 8/10. Though very different, the two albums are about in the same league for me with Yeezus getting the slight edge for being a much more bold and interesting listen. Born Sinner is obviously the stronger lyrical album though.

For the times that I've, like, defended myself... [Tape break] I'm pushing the envelope! I wrote my fuckin' 'Run This Town' verse for a fuckin' month! When I heard Eminem's verse on the Drake shit, I went back and rewrote my shit for two days. I canceled appointments to rewrite! I fuckin' care! You know what I'm saying? And that's what I'm saying. Because I did that, Taylor Swift cannot win over Beyoncé! Because I wrote my verse in two days, Taylor Swift cannot beat Beyoncé. As long as I'm alive! And if I'm alive, kill me then! Kill me then! As long as I'm alive, you gon' have to deal with it. 'Cause there ain't gonna be no more motherfucking Elvises with no James Browns.

[A female voice asks, "Why are you so angry? What's the anger?"] Because my mother got arrested for the fuckin' sit-ins. My mother died for this fame shit! I moved to fuckin' Hollywood chasing this shit. My mother died because of this shit. Fuck MTV.

It ain't no love. What the fuck was Pink performing? Don't nobody know that song. Pink performed twice! Two songs? How the fuck Pink perform two songs and I didn't even get asked to perform "Heartless." "Heartless" is the biggest song of the year! It had the most spins of the first quarter! I don't know that Pink song! But I noticed that she's pink! They put me in a fuckin' room and [inaudible - maybe "projected it"].

[A male voice asks, "How the fuck did Eminem get the Best Hip-Hop song in 2008?"] Eminem won Best Video! Rap Video! Yo, when he wont that shit, I was so happy. I was so happy I [unclear - "ran all this shit," maybe]. I said, "Nigga, I'm gon' do this until y'all put a bullet in my head. I'm runnin' up to y'all, put a..." [tape cuts].

Really? Obviously Kanye has his issues and spazzes out pretty regularly but that paparazzi guy is such a bitch. Did you see the video? He barely got touched and flops down like a fucking soccer player and requires medical attention and a hospital trip, ffs. This is the exact outcome he wanted, it's his bread and butter to annoy celebrities and sue them. He apparently did the same thing with Britney Spears a few years back- got her to attack him with an umbrella, sold the umbrella for $30k on ebay and sued her. I don't sympathize with paparazzi, especially the scumiest ones like this guy.

I fucking love Ye.

His ego is definitely over the top, almost to an absurd degree. I'm sure some of you caught the "New Slaves" tweet from yesterday..

"I open the debate… The 2nd verse of New Slaves is the best rap verse of all time….meaning … OF ALL TIME IN THE HISTORY OF RAP MUSIC, PERIOD"

Ok, that's borderline nuts. But that's also what puts him on another level. I wish other artists were that passionate about what they do. Whether you want to call it cocky, crazy, insane.. this man is completely attached to his work.

Musically, I can't think of any artist, in any genre, who has a streak that can compare to his. Maybe Radiohead, but even that is pushing it. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is quickly shifting from my favorite album of the last decade to my favorite album of all time.

I've probably had more to drink tonight than Ye himself at the 2009 VMAs, but he is on another level in my opinion. There's almost a part of me (I guess the rap purist side) that wishes I didn't rate him so highly, but at the end of the day, he is on another plateau.

And I love the fact he got physical with the paparazzi. He'd quite literally been telling them all month to FUCK OFF, and it finally boiled over. Get a real job you cunts.

OK, rant over.. .switching topics, I love this song, quite possibly my favorite Action Bronson song yet

Tech N9ne Reveals Upcoming Rock EP and ‘Special Effects’ Album

Tech N9ne is preparing his 13th studio album, Something Else, for release next week, but the indie juggernaut is already planning on not one, but two additional projects shortly thereafter.

During a sit down with Hive in New York City earlier this week, Tech revealed exclusively that he has a Rock EP and forthcoming studio album already in the pipeline. “November 5th I have a nine-song EP, Therapy. It’s a rock ‘n’ roll project,” he shared. Never one to slow down, Tech plans on releasing another studio album subsequently. “My next album is called Special Effects. I ain’t ever told nobody that. Soon as I get through Therapy, I’mma start getting beats.” The rapper has no firm date for Special Effects as of now, but given his rigorous workflow, it may be sooner than later. “You gotta keep moving,” he said.

What does the future hold for the always-busy rapper? Somewhere between recording and touring, Tech sees himself relaxing on a desert island a la the late Marlon Brandon down the line. “Five years from now, I’ll probably be on an island, that I bought” and then added, “with somebody beautiful on my face.”

Rap dreams come true.

Something Else is slated for release July 30th and like its namesake, promises to offer something different from Tech’s existing repertoire. Something Else boasts appearances ranging from Wiz Khalifa (“See Me”) and Danny Brown (“Thizzles”) to the remaining members of the Doors (“Strange 2013”) and Serj Tankian of System of a Down (“Straight Out the Gate”). The single “Fragile,” dedicated to the critics, with Kendall Morgan, Kendrick Lamar and ¡Mayday! was released last week.

The 14th Annual Gathering of the Juggalos will be held tomorrow (August 7) through Sunday (August 11) in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois. Vanilla Ice, Brotha Lynch Hung, Tech N9ne and Insane Clown Posse are set to headline the event. Twiztid, Madchild, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, Slaine, Potluck, Kung Fu Vampire and Rehab recently spoke with HipHopDX about The 14th Annual Gathering of the Juggalos.

"[Insane Clown Posse] wanted to start a concert festival of sorts that would be the mega event of the Juggalo world each and every year," Twiztid's Madrox says to HipHopDX. "Monoxide and I were there for the initial one and privileged to be at each and every one after it as well. This year is the fourteenth year we have played The Gathering and been a part of its sheer magnitude."

"It is unlike anything else and it is the first and original movement of its kind," adds Madchild. "I highly respect the loyalty and the family concept of Juggalos. We have a similar movement called the Battleaxe Warriors. Some of the similarities are the respect that Juggalos show to each other and how they can all connect through the music and the underground music. The Gathering is an amazing event and I have such respect for the Psychopathic Records crew who put it all together."

Performers also talked about what it means to be asked to perform at the event.

"It's just raw and crazy unfiltered chaos," Slaine says of The Gathering of Juggalos. "It's probably the closest thing to like a Woodstock for the underground because there are just no rules. It's out in the middle of nowhere and the fans are just crazy about underground Hip Hop music. I totally respect what the Juggalos have built and how fanatical their fans are. They built an underground movement from the ground up that is unlike anything else in music. I'm glad to be asked back again this year to perform."

"They are extreme about their music, so you know you have to bring that high energy and raw intensity," Rehab's Demun Jones adds. "I think we do that well."

Artists also talked about how The Gathering compares to other festivals.

"It differs from other festivals just on the accessibility of the performers on the grounds," Blaze Ya Dead Homie says. "You could be there the entire five days that it's happening and short of staying in your tent or R.V. the entire time, you are sure to see one of your favorite artists, possibly walking, or partying right next to you. Along with that, the freedom on the grounds are not like anything anywhere else."

"It's a great fucking time," Madchild adds. "It's a place you can go and not have to worry about being judged or looked at strange because you're different. It's a place where you can go let your freak flag fly and be comfortable. It's a place where you can go and celebrate individuality, and the best part is Juggalos don't really care if the outside world doesn't like it."

That type of environment creates a distinctive experience for fans and entertainers alike.

"The thing that makes The Gathering truly special and unique is [that] it is literally like a family reunion," Potluck's 1 Ton says. "Kids post on message boards, hitch rides from complete strangers and carpool across the country to go there. People camp, live and eat together with complete strangers and share all of their supplies and food like they are brothers and sisters. There is 15,000-20,000 kids and days go by without even one fight. There is a lot of face paint and crazy costumes, so to the outside eye it is a big scary place. But once you go one time, you will see why everyone chants ['family' at the event]."

Several celebrities have attended The Gathering over the years.

"I could talk for hours about crazy stories, from kicking it with Charlie Sheen to Tila Tequilla getting booed off stage and her whole security team getting rat packed," Potluck's 1 Ton says.

"It was surreal," Twiztid's Monoxide adds. "Seen a lot of people get booed but never booed [and] then surrounded. If they could have got a hand on her, I think [Tila Tequila] would have been killed."

Other high-profile entertainers have also participated at The Gathering.

"We seen MC Hammer bring out his whole dance crew and get 100 Juggalos on stage dancing with Potluck and DJ Quik jumping up and down with cameras in the middle of the stage," 1 Ton says.

Nudity is also prominent, according to rappers.

"It's funny," Slaine says. "I remember when I went to the Gathering of Juggalos for the first time, everyone told me that there was going to be naked women all over the place. When I got there, one of the first things I saw was this giant naked 300-pound bitch letting it all hang out. Then later on that night, I was partying with everyone, but I just had this weird feeling that someone was trying to spike my drink, so I went and traded it out for another one. A few minutes later I finished my drink and looked down and there was the remnants of some sort of fluorescent capsule sitting in the bottom of the cup. The Gathering of Juggalos is just [a] fucking crazy time that everyone has to experience for themselves."

"The very first time I showed up in our bus, someone ran next to us for like half a mile as we entered the Gathering, and they were completely excited and trying to hand us a big joint to smoke," Kung Fu Vampire adds. "When we got out of the bus, the very first thing we saw was three chicks hanging on to the back of a golf cart completely naked. The stories go on and on, I think you get the point. It's nuts."

Has there been any? All of the rappers I've heard respond have given him props and talked about how hip hop is competitive and taken it as a compliment.

Seems like the reactions to the Kendrick verse will manage to eclipse the verse itself. Crazy verse, but I think the real heart of it is all the lines when he's NOT saying names.. that was some real passionate stuff. Anyway, this will be remembered for a long time, because it looks like it's genuinely going to shake some things up in rap.

Joe Budden and Styles P got into a Twitter war over it, and neither of them were even mentioned  http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.25030/title.styles-p-joe-budden-beef-in-response-to-kendrick-lamar-s-control-verse

Eminem and Gambino are most likely dropping albums by year end though so we'll see.

Yeah, that Joe Budden response is ridiculous. I haven't heard him rap like that in years.

Earl Sweatshirt's album is quite good. It's a little disjointed, and it's not quite as flat-out mind blowing as some of the hype has built it up to be, but it's still great. The production is awesome, and I like the direction he's taken lyrically. Hopefully it's just the beginning of what we hear from this kid.

ASAP Ferg's album is a fun listen too. Really catchy stuff, he could be a star with the right singles.

Still waiting on OLD...

It really is. Who are these idiots on YouTube saying that it is good?

What's dreadful about it? Is it not your type of rap or are the lyrics too weak for you?

The chorus to me is meh, but I find the lyrics to be better than his recent work.

I'm an Eminem fan, but I'm not a fan of his singles. Even on SSLP or MMLP, his lead singles were corny and not much has changed in 13 years.

Fro
August 27th, 2013, 2:25 PM
I like it, but don't love it.

Rick Rubin being involved in the album is great and I think he could breathe a breathe of fresh air into Em, but it doesn't exactly align with the MMLP2 title. Like you said though Brady, it's not out of the norm for Em to have a lead single that doesn't fit with the rest of the album. It's also yet to be seen whether Survival will be on the album.

The Real Slim Shady is awesome though for the record, it was the perfect single.

Bennedy
August 27th, 2013, 2:29 PM
I think the lyrics are pretty bad, but that is not that big a deal when it comes to music for me. I can happily listen to a catchy song with below par lyrics. Haven't heard much of his recent stuff but I used to love Eminem back in the day. This just sounds like such a step down.

I agree with you on the singles. Some of my favourite Eminem songs are his album tracks.

The more recent Eminem singles (Crack A Bottle, Not Afraid, Just Lose It, Ass Like That) were populist and corny, but his earlier singles were pretty out there if you looked beyond the beat. Stuff like The Real Slim Shady, Purple Pills, Without Me and My Band were pop as fuck production-wise, but lyrically they were great - funny, interesting and original. I get why 'real heads' hate My Band but rather than think of it as a shit hip-hop track, I think of it as the world's greatest novelty record. Eminem has always gone for pop singles in the lead-up to the album that rarely give you an idea what the album will be like (the exception being Not Afraid, which was indicative of the pop/stadium rock-influenced production on his last album).

I don't particularly like Berzerk, but then I'm not a fan of the late-80s style it mimics...but I'm still massively excited for the album. His last album was a massive step up I thought. I don't think he'll ever hit the heights of the Marshall Mathers LP or the IMO superior Slim Shady LP - the last few tracks of which (after the final skit) is probably the greatest run of ridiculously brilliant tracks ever, even pipping any succession from Illmatic - but his last CD was certainly 'good', and the one before that wasn't bad either.

Big Sean is fucking garbage. I don't even know why I bothered looking this up on Spotify. At least I didn't download it and waste the bandwith.

There was an article with him whining about not being considered a "top rapper" well it's pretty fucking obvious, he sucks.

http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.25288/title.big-sean-says-he-doesn-t-know-why-people-don-t-consider-him-a-top-rapper

"I feel like I deserve that," Big Sean said when asked about being a top rapper. "My album could have been way better and I was still finding myself as an artist. So what I'm saying is I don't know why people don't consider Big Sean as one of the best rappers when I'll hop on a song with anybody and I'll kill it and have a stand out verse."

The G.O.O.D. Music artist also compared himself to some of the biggest names in Hip Hop and says he can hold his own against any of them.

"I would consider Kanye and Jay Z the best, you consider Drake the best, you consider J. Cole the best when I can hop on a song with him and have a stand out verse and arguably a better verse than them," he said. "That's the point of Hall Of Fame, I wanted to make an album that gives me more leverage."

When asked about why his label boss Kanye West wasn't included as a guest on his second studio album, Sean replied that he shouldn't have to have 'Ye featured on his album for people to be a fan of his music.

I might download First Chain and then edit Big Sean out of his own song just so I can listen to Nas and Cudi.

Also it's been a month or whatever and I'm still really enjoying the Earl album. Hive is my shit.

Madchild & Slaine Announce Supreme Villain Album

Madchild and Slaine have teamed to form the group Supreme Villain. The duo’s new partnership also serves as one of the first projects for the relaunch of Battle Axe Records, the imprint that served as the recording home for Swollen Members and that has also released projects from Evidence, Son Doobie and others.

“We will probably put out a Swollen Members album first to launch Battle Axe Records,” Madchild says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “But supreme Villains will be the second release and will be a top priority.”

Slaine says that his partnership with Madchild for Supreme Villain was a necessary step for him at this point in his musical career.

“When you’re an artist, there are times when you feel isolated and there are times when you wanna be around other artists, too,” Slaine says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “Sometimes when working with another artist, it can sometimes rejuvenate your creativity and make you look at things from a different angle. This project is something I need in this moment in time to move forward.”

Madchild And Slaine Met At KOTD

Madchild and Slaine met at KOTD in August 2011. Madchild was there to battle Dirtbag Dan, but he also formed a quick bond with Slaine, who had released acclaimed material with Special Teamz and La Coka Nostra and as a solo artist.

“When I spoke with him, I knew he was a dude who was on a mission, someone who was in the middle of changing his life and someone who is going through the same thing as myself,” Slaine says. “We had a heart-to-heart and we became friends instantly. A year later, we went on tour with La Coka Nostra and Swollen Members. Not only did I see how amazing of a MC he was, but it solidified how great of a person he is. I think it was apparent that we are like-minded, not only in our musical approach but in our life experience.”

In addition to the similarities they shared as people, Madchild says that he was also excited to develop a relationship with an artist he admired.

“Slaine is simply one of my favorite MCs on the planet,” Madchild says. “I feel that I’m a snob when it comes to lyrics and I pay attention to the complexity of any MC lyrics and what they want to get across. Slaine is a 10 to me in both those categories. I had the honor of going on tour with Slaine when Swollen Members went on tour with La Coca Nostra. We had a chance to get to know each other and become friends. Slaine's personality is larger than life. I told myself at this point in life that I wasn’t interested in making any new friends, but Slaine was an exception to the rule. I not only plan on having a group with Slaine, but plan on being friends with him for life.”

Madchild And Slaine Draw Inspiration From One Another

Madchild has delivered several story-driven songs throughout his career, including 2012’s “Wake Up,” in which he details his drug addiction. Madchild says that Slaine’s story-driven material with Special Teamz, La Coka Nostra and as a solo artist is something that appeals to him.

“Slaine is a very good storyteller,” he says. “I’ve steered away from that in the past, ’cause it comes very easily and naturally to me. I like to challenge myself with lyrical word play, so that’s what I focus on the most. I’ve realized now that telling stories and talking about things that happened in my past is something that my fans will appreciate. I plan on doing this more with Supreme Villain. Slaine, to me, is one of the best story tellers in the MC game. I will learn from him and pick up form him in this style and I feel it will help bring my A game when it comes to storytelling.”

For his part, Slaine says that he plans to incorporate Madchild’s ability to present his lifestyle to his fans into his own brand.

“I feel Madchild matches up very well with who he is his visually,” Slaine says. “That doesn’t come so natural to me. His style is very much his own and unique to Hip Hop. I think that’s what makes people in Hip Hop great. I’ve had the opportunity to work with legends, people who are great at what they do and that’s the only thing I’m interested in being involved with.”

Wow. This is hilarious.

I love how he says he never really liked Gold Digger, must be why he had a kid with one.

So glad Born Sinner has sold more albums than Yeezus.

Kanye in part 3 talks a lot like black comedians do when they imitate how white people talk.

For the record it doesn't matter how many features you do (2 Chainz) if they all suck.

During the third installment of his CRWN interviews presented by MySpace, Drake spoke about his perspective regarding Twitter.

"Twitter isn't real, by the way," Drake said. "There's no gauge on real life on twitter. That's a terrible medium to exist in. You can enjoy it. You can even indulge in it. Just don't live your life by that weird code on that Internet program.

"I know it's tough," Drake continued. "I know we all love it, but I'm just gonna give you an example. When it stopped being real to me was on my mom's birthday. I'll never forget. It was all these people being like, 'Happy birthday to your mom.' And then, I saw some guy be like, 'Yo, I hope your mom dies in a car crash tonight.' I was just like, 'Why am I reading this? What is going on? Who is this guy?' Obviously, I just went to his page because I was just like, 'Fuck him.' Obviously, he just had a Tyler, the Creator sweater on. He was just 13 years old, just jerking off to Grand Theft Auto and shit. I just encourage you to live your life and be great."

I'm not shocked that Drake would want to believe some 13 year old was jerking off playing GTA and taking a shit. The dude needs to vanish. But then again, without lame ass rappers like Drake and 2 Chainz the underground scene wouldn't be as profitable as it is now. There are more underground artists making money in the last decade than ever before and I 100% attribute that to the mainstream rap scene being hideous. I was talking with a German cat the other day and he were talking about artists like Non-Phixion and Diabolic and he was like "Yeah up until about 5-6 years ago there was a lot of tight shit but now everyone wants to be a fuckin baller". I was like dude, welcome to America lol.

Nothing official yet but I wouldn't be surprised. I saw he was in the studio with Dre and he's really underrated.

I honestly didn't think Unconscious State was that great, it had a few good songs, but I loved While You Were Sleeping, The Blue Album, The People's Rapper LP, and Vinne Chase Parts 1 & 2.

I dunno about you guys, but Old is my album of the year so far. Definitely lived up to my expectations. Both halfs are incredible and really show his versatility. By the way, that leak that's out now is just a rip from Spotify, so the sound quality isn't completely up to par. Wait til next week if you want the proper, CD quality version
