Why read Pitchfork? It's a joke.

I don't know, Pitchfork has its uses. It is a good site to keep track of what is being released, is amazingly pretentious which is good for a laugh and at the end of the year it is handy to go through their ALBUMS OF THE YEAR list and see if there are any that I have missed.

I actually laugh out loud at some of the reviews, but not for the reason the author intended. One that springs to mind is the review of Wale's mixtape last year. That was certainly one of the most absurd things ever, in a "post-napstar" world indeed.

The website is probably some gigantic post-modern troll by the way.

That was a wonderful performance. Kanye West is easily my favorite rapper in the past three to four years. I, unlike many, love his new album and think this guy has the potential to become an all time great.

Lil Wayne is easily the hottest thing right now but I did think TI and Justin Timberlake duo performance almost topped this one mentioned in the former.

I didn't actually think the performance was all that. People crowding around Jay-Z ready to polish his knob if the situation came to that... MIA in very strange attire and giving a horrible vocal that needed to be backed up by the actual audio... I was bored of seeing Kayne yet again, who's voice and flow seems to have deserted him any time I have seen him live the last six to eight months... and a pointless Lil' Wayne cameo, but that is probably my bias creeping in as I actually don't see all the fuss surrounding him.

Not sure how old this news is, but I just heard that The Roots will be the house band for Jimmy Fallon when he takes over Conan O'Brien's late night show. It seems a bit odd, and at first I assumed it was only for the premiere, but apparently it's a full time gig. From what I recall most people on this board don't like Fallon, but personally I think he's funny and a good choice for the show. I'm a huge Roots fan - seen them live probably 5 times and they are by far the best hip hop act I've ever seen - so getting to see them on a nightly basis is potentially pretty sweet. I'm not sure if Black Thought is going to be a part of this or what. They said they'll have 10 weeks off every year to continue touring.

Some guy named J Rocc got the new DOOM album and posted a review on this twitter. Not too sure how authentic this is, but here's his track by track break down:

Just got DOOM's new album. Bout to give it a listen....from the man himself....thanks DOOM. (I know he'll get this...the power of twitter)

Alright. Disc of DOOM is being burned. Bout to drive to the homies crib and listen on the way...I need to hit the corner tho.

DOOM you are the man. He even sent em as Wav files. I must be his friend or something.

This DOOM album is bangin. Track by Track for those that care coming soon.....J.Rocc's (honest) record review. "No more music by the suckas"

Ok. So....there's a intro that has a cat talking bout the Villian.

Gazzilion Ear- Bangin. This is the track that I played that's on YouTube. Production-Dilla. I biased on this one tho.

Ballskin- we've all heard this one.

Yessir - Rae is killing it. Taking it back.

Absolutely - Madlib on the beat. For soon reason I think the beat is on Dil Cosby/Dil Withers. DOOM is a madman with the verse.

Rap Ambush - is this track you Jake? Another DOOM verse that's on point. J likes.

Lightworks - another exclusive awhile ago on the YouTube. Dilla beat. Different raps from the one I had. Doom is crazy folks.

Batty Boys - HO. LE . SH. IT. I need the chronicals for this one. Where does he get all this talking. I gotta replay this one.

Angelz - Tony Starks. Had this one since the SXSW ST show. This is a different mix.

Ok. They both rappin some Charlie's Angels / Three's Company stuff.

Cellz - alright. I see why the name of the album is "Born Like This". Damn. If I could only go somewhere and play this. Ok. No filler.. "Don't know what he be sayin but the words are funny"

Still Dope - Who's this girl rappin. She's kinda dope. She's can hang with the DOOM beat changes..... Ok. She's dope.

Microwave Mayo - ok...this ones is wack...........SYKE!! Maybe I just miss this type of stuff but I'am not mad at all at this album.

More Rhymin - Jake is this you again? I gotta turn this one up.

He hasn't lost it. At all. This cat is too dope.

That's That - this fool is buggin on this verse. Even a shout out to the La Brea Tar Pits.

Supervillianz- is this auto tune? DOOM definitly made this beat..

Bumpy's Message - no need to explain. Just read the title.

Thank Yah - DOOM beat again...he's not sampling gospel is he? Madlib style right here.

Gotta say. This is a good album. 17 tracks and all of em were dope. I'm not just saying that. Dilla, Madlib, Jake Uno on the beats. You can't go wrong. No half ass raps. He actually killin it on every verse. Even the guest were on point. The girls tracks tho!!!

I'm officially gonna learn the lyrics. Hahahahaha

I have to listen to the auto-tune track again

He's clowin.

BUMP.

a bit old, but a good point of discussion: what does rajah think of drake? or charles hamilton? people seem to be bitterly divided on whether these two guys are to be taken seriously. i happen to like 'em both.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfF_oVNi5NY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3hRoUIcYuQ

edit: if you didn't know, the controversy stems from the fact that hamilton self-produces, was caught stealing a beat from a producer on myspace, has a pretty gay obsession with sonic the hedgehog, and generally seems to be kind of a tool. drake was the kid who got shot and was paralyzed on degrassi.

spanish announce table
May 1st, 2009, 1:20 PM
Haven't really payed too much attention to Hamilton. Drake is hit or miss with me. He has a good flow, but most of the time he's just rapping without saying anything. There's a video of him rapping on Flex's radio show, and Flex is going nuts over lines like 'I'm in the Aston Martin doing donuts'.

Anybody check out the new Stoupe album? The beats he did for Joell Ortiz, Outerspace, and Reef aren't anything special, but the I really like the rest of them. Block McCloud, who I really hate for what he did on the last few JMT albums, actually has one of the better tracks on it. Some of the MC's, like Saigon, Supastition & Jus Allah were underwhelming and got totally outshined by the beats. This is my favorite track on there:

Hopefully Stoupe decides to go with this style if he ever releases a follow up.

In hopes of stirring up some discussion, I give you the greatest 20 rap songs of all time...

20. Deltron 3030 - 3030
19. Lauryn Hill – Doo Wop (That Thing)
18. Mobb Deep - Shook Ones, Pt. 2
17. Ghostface Killah - One
16. Jay-Z - Heart of the City
15. A Tribe Called Quest - Check the Rhime
14. Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.
13. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five - The Message
12. LL Cool J – I Can’t Live Without My Radio
11. Smif-n-Wessun – Sound Bwoy Bureill
10. Nas - N.Y. State of Mind
9. NWA – Straight Outta Compton
8. The Sugar Hill Gang - Rapper's Delight
7. Nas – I Gave You Power
6. 2pac – Changes
5. Lupe Fiasco – Hip Hop Saved My Life
4. Wu-Tang Clan – Triumph
3. Run DMC – Rock Box
2. Nas w/Lauryn Hill – If I Ruled the World
1. The Notorious B.I.G. – Juicy

Honorable Mentions: Public Enemy - Fight the Power; NWA - Fuck Tha Police; 2pac – Dear Mama; Talib Kweli – Get By; Eric B and Rakim – Paid in Full; KRS-One - MC's Act Like They Don't Know; Dr. Dre w/Snoop Dogg - Nuthin' But a "G" Thang

This was pretty tough to put together tbh, and originally I was only gonna do 15. So... thoughts? What's undeserving? What should be on there that I'm missing? I'll comment on a few of them over the next few days. Hip Hop Saved My Life is the most recent of the bunch, and for me it was an instant classic. It's just such an incredible, down to earth story about what succeeding as a rapper means.

Sound Bwoy Bureill is way underplayed considering how brilliant it is.

Billmatic
May 6th, 2009, 12:09 AM
I like it. I can't disagree with a lot of those song choices, and as a "greatest" list, I've seen a lot worse. Juicy seems pretty indisputable to me, and I'm glad to see 3030 on there. That song (and album) was so ahead of its time its ridiculous.

I'm taking a break from studying so I'll do one myself, though this one's got a little bit of a preference bias:

20. Notorious BIG - Everyday Struggle
19. Nas - I Gave You Power
18. Grandmaster Flash - The Message
17. Jay- Z feat. Eminem - Renegade
16. Lupe Fiasco - Daydreamin'
15. KRS-One - The Bridge Is Over
14. Mos Def - Mathematics
13. Eminem - Drug Ballad
12. Outkast - Rosa Parks
11. Deltron 3030 - 3030
10. Raekwon - Knuckleheadz
9. Nas - NY State of Mind
8. Jay-Z - Hard Knock Life
7. A Tribe Called Quest - Eight Million Stories
6. Kanye West- Through The Wire
5. Wu-Tang - C.R.E.A.M.
4. Mobb Deep - Shook Ones Pt. II
3. 2Pac - Only God Can Judge Me (Pac at his finest, IMO)
2. Nas - One Love
1. Notorious BIG - Juicy

and I can't figure out what to take out, but I erred big time by excluding "My Mind is Playin' Tricks On Me" by the Geto Boys and "My Block" by Scarface. Two very worthy tracks by one of the most underrated MCs ever.

Pete Cash
May 6th, 2009, 12:34 AM
One Love is really Nas at his finest. Excellent choice for your highest rated Nas track. I disagree with your Jay-Z tracks though. Hard Knock Life is a good tune but I would replace Renegade with ANY of the Kanye West produced tracks off the Blueprint besides the remix of Girls Girls Girls.

Billmatic
May 6th, 2009, 12:38 AM
yeah, I get what you're saying but I feel like "Hard Knock Life" was really sorta the moment that mainstream hip-hop became open to literally anything and begun moving away from the "Sean Combs era" as far as production goes. Renegade was just two great MCs at the top of their games.

Heart of the City & Can't Knock the Hustle are my favorite Jay tracks though for what its worth.

Public Enemy - Welcome to the Terrordome
Public Enemy - Brother's Gonna Work it Out
Bronze Nazareth - Black Royalty
Scarface - Heaven
Bone Thugs - Crossroads
Nas - One Mic
Nas - Small World
Heltah Skeltah - Leflaur Leflah Eshkoshka
Killah Priest - For Tomorrow
Tupac - Hell Razor
AZ - Rather Unique
Canibus - Poet Laureate II
Wu Tang - Babies
Biggie - Juicy
EPMD - Headbanger
Geto Boys - My Mind's Playing Tricks on Me
Pete Rock & CL Smooth - TROY
Wu Tang - Triumph

Nas has so many outstanding tracks that you could justify putting 5 or 6 of them in the top 20. I'm a sucker for a smooth R&B hook with some uplifting lyrics, so for me If I Ruled the World is as good as it gets. I think Nas really came into his own as a writer on It Was Written, putting together more cohesive verses and making some brilliant songs. I Gave You Power is genius story telling over a hard Premier beat and at previous times it would have been my #1. One Love is great, but for me it doesn't really stand out from the other tracks on Illmatic.

Walk This Way gets a lot of attention, but Rock Box is not only superior, but also preceded it. It's Run DMC's best song imo, and a perfect fusion of rock and rap that opened up hip hop to a whole new demographic.

I'm not a sucker so I don't need a bodyguard!

Good list... I've never considered Justify My Thug one of the better Jay-Z songs, I'll have to give that another listed.

2pac has a lot of great songs but I think Changes is his best, even though it came out posthumously. Something about that song always gets me.

Be, the album, has gotta be one of Kanye's greatest achievements. Though short, it's pretty much flawless and the chemistry between him and Common is tremendous.

I think I've said this before, but "The People" off Finding Forever (a great followup album by the way) is one of my favorite Kanye beats and songs.

And hey while were on the subject, how bad was Universal Mind Control? Other than "Gladiator", which kicks ass, that whole album is forgettable.

wow. like i said, i wasn't expecting much, but from a couple listens, this album is complete garbage. "deja vu" is passable but literally every other song is terrible. not one single redeeming quality. even the beats are dated and awful. and i don't see any way it can possibly grow on me.

this seriously makes encore look good by comparison. he needs to never write anything ever again.

In this crazy T-Pain/Autotune world that we live in, that accent isnt really as annoying as most people make it out to be. And maybe it isnt as good as some of the undergound stuff but the album is definately one of the best mainstream ones that I've heard in a while.
And its Em so it'll sell on name value alone so you're still looking at a hit.

That's pretty harsh. It's better than Encore, though that isn't saying much. You can tell when Dre produces an entire album nowadays his beats get diluted, but musically it's still pretty good. First impression: I like it. As always it needs more time to sink in, but I'd say at worst it's decent.

Billmatic

i don't know man. this is a frustrating listen. he clearly still has a talent to craft effortlessly (literally) good flows, but the concepts are so tired, so half-assed, and his insistence on lacing his tracks with the accent and awful sung hooks totally seems like he's relying on them as a songwriting crutch.

dre's production is lazy and almost dated sounding as well. i like crack a bottle, and the beat on "bagpipes from baghdad" is nice, but really, i really hope Detox isn't this generic.

The Real Slim Shady was overplayed so much that it became unlistenable, but I've recently come back to it and it's a really enjoyable song. So fun and upbeat with witty lyrics, as you said. It's a shame he can't, or doesn't, rap like that anymore.

Relapse isn't great. It's a step down from The Eminem Show as there aren't any songs as good as Soldier, Sing for the Moment, Til I Collapse or Cleanin Out My Closet. But I still like it for the most part, unlike Encore which was truly awful. I really like his flow on Insane even though the content is a little off-putting.

Also, not that it's a song or anything, but the intro track is great.

Billmatic

the intro is indeed awesome. and i just read on pitchfork that the doctor is dominic west from the wire. hence, "dr. west"

Eminem - Relapse

1. Dr. West - Love it. Great intro track. +
2. 3am - A good first song and nice to hear him back to his deranged old self. 8
3. My Mom - I don't care if he's made 100 songs about his mom, they're usually some of his strongest and this is no exception. Love the beat and the chorus, and the verses are good. Also it's funny how he throws a little auto-tune in there in a mocking way. 8.5
4. Insane - Tremendous flow by Em, probably his best on the album. Pretty vulgar, but hey that's nothing new for him. The third verse is especially great. 8.5
5. Bagpipes from Baghdad - I like the beat and his flow, but lyrically it's pretty forgettable. Not bad. 7
6. Hello - A solid track that doesn't really jump out at you, but I like it. 7
7. Tonya (Skit)
8. Same Song & Dance - The first song on the album that doesn't do much for me. I do like the chorus, but the beat and celebrity focused verses are poor. 5
9. We Made You - The silly accent kills me, but musically it's a good song. 6
10. Medicine Ball - This song starts out great with a good beat and hard flow, but when he gets to the Christopher Reeve stuff it goes downhill. 7
11. Paul (Skit) I've always liked these skits and am glad he's kept them going. +
12. Stay Wide Awake - The beat reminds me of American Psycho II by D12, but not too much that it's a bad thing. 6.5
13. Old Time's Sake (featuring Dr. Dre) - Pretty weak beat, but Dre is good and I always like hearing them go back and forth. 6
14. Must Be the Ganja - Another weak beat, not a lot to like here. 5
15. Mr. Mathers (Skit)
16. Deja Vu - Really good song that fits in with the relapse theme as he spits some real talk about his battle with pills and sleep problems. 8
17. Beautiful - Kinda corny and it has an ironically similar feel to Christina Aguilera's track of the same name. Not sure if that was intentional or not. The verses are decent. 5.5
18. Crack a Bottle (featuring Dr. Dre, 50 Cent) - I liked this song when it was first released and still enjoy bumping it. 7.5
19. Steve Berman (Skit) - Just like the Paul skits, these are always good. +
20. Underground/Ken Kaniff - A fierce song with a great flow. He drops some lyrical gems but also bumbles around a little bit. 8

Overall: 7.4/10 (not an average)

This album has only grown on me over the last few days. Musically I think Dre did a great job of making beats that work well for Em as opposed to typical, banging Dre beats. There aren't any classic songs (note I didn't rate anything higher than an 8.5), but there also isn't anything unlistenable, which couldn't be said for Encore. The tone of the album is a real return to form for Em, and going through some drug problems again definitely helped him inspirationally.

Someone agree with me that it's good already.

We Made You higher on the scale than Beautiful :S

Haha, but yeah the album is good. Everyone has their own opinions, but saying it's complete garbage makes me believe that some of you need to get the stick outta your asses. It's a concept album, clearly. The album ends on a great note with Underground, some say Relapse 2 won't have the accent, just a transformed and fully rehabilitated Marshall Mathers, so to speak. So we will see.

The way I'm looking at it is that he's gonna be dropping 2 albums so he most likely had to spread out the good tracks evenly between both records. So theres bound to be a few average tracks whenever that happens.
I can imagine him later releasing a Blueprint 2.1 style compilation of all the best tracks on one disc in the future that people might consider a classic.

But I pretty much agree with Fro's review on the first disc. Apart from "We Made You" which I think is a lot more enjoyable after you've seen the video and "Same Song And Dance" which is kinda catchy and definately not one I'd skip on my music player if it was on.

I really didn't dig the new Eminem cd too much after the first listen.. I'm sure I'll give it another chance, but I only liked a couple tracks the first time around..

The new Paul Wall cd, however, is off the chain. Start to finish. The track with Tech N9ne is a nice addition. Tech is from here and probably the most underrated rapper out there. Nice to see him on a 'mainstream' rappers cd for once.

Also, pretty interesting review I found on a forum (not sure of the source)

Relapse begins with "Dr. West". We're dropped into Marshall Mathers checking out of Rehab for his abuse of alcohol and pills. Marshall is having a conversation with Dr.West concerning his concerns of relapsing into addiction post-rehab and controlling himself through the 12-step program. He is encouraged by Dr.West to give into drugs to get through his worries. As the pressure builds on Marshall Dr.West transforms into an alter ego. It is his devil that is unleashed. An alarm clock rings, and Marshall wakes up. It was only a nightmare.

He wakes up at 3 AM. The door is unlocked, Marshall has relapsed, and is now Slim Shady. The usual dosage of grotesque depictions of violence occurs as Shady describes his memory murder. A review of Marshall's experiences with addictions are included prior to relapsing are included. He's up late at night, can't sleep, and wishes to sleep so he returns to his drugs. "3 AM" tracks the transformation from Marshall to Slim Shady; by the third verse Shady is in full mode.

He takes us back to the beginning, to the days of his youth, to the day when his addiction began. This act is part of the 12 steps. One must admit they're addicted, that they're powerless. He tells us that through his Mother actions that that he exists today but that despite the outside circumstances he is no different then his Mother. This is less of a critique as it is more of a review. There is no hatred for his mother, only the realization that this is how events in his life went down, this is how he became who he is today.

The story of his past continues as Shady tells us of the rape he received as a child from his step-father. Always aware of the gossip, on the chorus Shady addresses those who wonder about his mental state. He continues to face what has haunted him.

Shady then focuses the light on the thoughts that race through his head today: failed relationships, hatred and jealousy, and insecurities about acceptance. He demonstrates that he is Shady and he is insane. He gives in to the perceptions.

His continued desires to be accepted are expressed on "Hello". Another source of why he turns to addictions are described - women. "Tonya" transitions the story of external problems from his past to his issues with females.
Shady's past experiences with relationships are described on "Same Song & Dance". "We Made You" continues as a lighter variation of "Same Song & Dance", this time focusing on female celebrities.

"Medicine Ball" continues the tale of addiction and how Shady constantly attacks the world as if it were his play-toy. This all roots from the belief that people have got to hate him.

Paul comes in as a voice of reason, he comes in as the perception of us the audience. Shady responds to the critique by telling the world to accept it, this is who he is, it's a part of Marshall, and dares the audience to delve into the sick thoughts within on "Stay Wide Awake". He continues to appeal to this recommendation on the next track, "Old Time's Sake". The track also begins to address another addiction - Weed. "Must Be The Ganga" confirms the depth of his addiction.

"Mr. Mathers" continues to tell us that Marshall is gone on this CD, and only Shady exists. We know why, Marshall overdosed on medication that he used to try to fall asleep. "Deja Vu" is no longer Shady. Eminem is back and he tells the story of his recent struggle with addiction, leading up to the overdose. Shady is still there, in the background, but only as a whisper.

Marshall comes out and tells us his truth on "Beautiful". He reviews his career, his position in life, his current actions, his thoughts, and his fears. It's his truth without the devil, without Shady. He's told us his story in the past 16 tracks - his you, his alter ego, his addictions. Marshall knows all this but it doesn't matter, this is therapy. It doesn't matter that he's said this already, that he's expressed his contempt for his mother, his hatred for the world, his desire to be accepted - none of this matters. This is Marshall Mathers. You are are you. This is what he wants to do. You do what you want to do. He's being himself.

"Crack a Bottle" is the celebration of this realization, of being yourself, of his career and what he has done. His therapy is nearly done. He has made it through his post-rehab phase. Eminem is ready to come back so he visits Steve Berman. Berman is the audience who's waited for Eminem, who's tired of his antics - Berman represents the world outside of Marshall.

Underground concludes the album. Eminem is back to form. He resorts back into his battle flow, his crazy rhymes, his passion, and he's ready to prove the world he's back. He's admitted to his story and he even makes fun of his own material via Ken Kaniff - We Made You's corniness and poppiness is made fun of.
In conclusion of this lyrical analysis, honesty and self-expression is why I dig Relapse. It's all deliberately planned out. It's the story of Marshall Mather/Eminem/Slim Shady. A story is told of part of what he's been up to the in the past 4 years. His accents are on purpose, his lack of emotion on tracks is on purpose. They all serve to be part of the collective whole. That's why I dig this. It's not just a collection of random tracks that sound hot like on most albums.

And do the beats match what's being spit? I would say yeah they do. Even those more manufactured towards consumer appeal such as "We Made You" are picked at via Ken Kaniff.

True, other artists would have done something different but Eminem made it his own. He only presents what he knows and doesn't tell us otherwise. He doesn't rap as if he's slinging weight or packing heat or as the hot headed Shady he used to be. He knows the material itself is somewhat contrived and tells us this but he doesn't care because it's something he has to go through, this is how he wants to be represented.

I definitely like Relapse more than Encore because Encore sucked, but I doubt I'll still be listening to Relapse a year from now it's not on par with his earlier stuff.

I like "Same song and dance" the beat's hot. I also like "Deja Vu" "Underground" "Crack a bottle" and "Stay wide awake". The rest range from decent to "meh" for me.

The only song I can't listen to is "Must be the ganja" I just don't care for it at all.

I dunno, they're pretty good but I definitely wouldn't put either of them above Deja Vu, Insane or Underground.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm really feeling this album. It keeps growing on me and I now think it's as good as The Eminem Show. I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm really feeling this album. It keeps growing on me and I now think it's as good as The Eminem Show.I'm with you on that.

Heard the album for the first time last night and I found myself really liking a lot more songs than ones I could take or leave. I might do a song-by-song rating like Fro did earlier when I've given it a couple of more play throughs, but for now these are the ones I really like: "3AM", "Bagpipes From Baghdad", "Beautiful", "Deja Vu", "Insane", "My Mom", "Old Times Sake", "Stay Wide Awake", "Same Song And Dance", "Underground" and, perhaps in the minority here, but I really like "We Made You" as well, especially the chorus.

So that's, what, ten songs out of fifteen? Just heard *My Darling" and "Careful What You Wish For" here for the first time, too, and I REALLY like those two. That's twelve out of seventeen. "Crack A Bottle", however, I don't really care for.

I agree with Deka about "Beautiful", I think that's some fantastic work. I know it's a tad cheesy in places, but it could very well be up there with Sing For The Moment in terms of his more serious stuff.

It's easily better than Encore and on par with Eminem Show, with definite potential to actually creep above it with a couple of more listens.

Jay took it from Em in the same way he takes lines from Biggie and flips them into his own. It wasn't a secret or anything, I think most people picked up on it right away. Personally I think it's cool but a lot of people have accused him of being a biter. A while back someone put all of his lines that came from Biggie on an mp3 mixed in with Big's original lines, you can probably still find it.

It is a part of hiphop culture. Eminem used Jay's line "Can't leave rap alone, the game needs me" on The Eminem Show.

Didnt Jay steal a quite a few lines with the "When the remy's in the system" bit on that Pharrell track?

Blackout 2 is definitely worth a listen for those who haven't checked it. I'm not sure why City Lights hasn't been released as a single yet because that song is a BANGER. Bun B has gotta be the best featuring rapper right now (sorry Weezy). Although it's pretty disappointing that Redman uses the auto-tuner for a couple bars. :blah: Four Minutes To Lock Down is sick as well, with Rae and Ghost.

I was just listening to The Slim Shady EP (Murder, Murder is still one of my favorite Em tracks) and it's funny how his career has come full circle. "My Darling" is really just an extension of the intro track from that EP.

I killed you!
Look in the mirror, you're nothing without me...

Slaughterhouse-Slaughterhouse 2009-H3X
Here is the debut self entitled album of a Hip-Hop group Slaughterhouse, which consists of Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Royce Da 5′9″, & Crooked I.
http://www.picfile.net/images/71serxa7l2dyndhve.jpg
In a time where Hip Hop appears to be in a similar recession that our economy is entrenched in, four emcees have banded together to form a Rap supergroup like none other. All four emcees have had their fair share of major label love. All four have also been written off (with the exception of the young Ortiz), after their label mishaps, only to rise like the phoenix and utilize the internet to buld massive cult followings. You probably know them individually, but this is about getting to know Slaughterhouse as a collective.
Track List:
01. Sound Off (Produced By STREETRUNNER)
02. Lyrical Murderers Ft. Kay Young (Produced By TheRealFocus)
03. Microphone (Produced By The Alchemist)
04. Not Tonight (Produced By STREETRUNNER)

Have you googled it have you? I googled mine found the Eazy-E song listened to it heard the line and then searched for songs which sampled it. I've done the leg work I just need someone to pluck something of wonder out here

If all you're wanting is the sample cut out tell me a song that samples it.
If you're wanting a song that samples it and googled but didn't find anything are you sure a song samples it?

It's a song that samples it my issue is I think Eazy-E possibly used a sample for it in his song so I might need to find the original song. Cheers

When I listened it sounded like the only thing he sampled was the word rock and the word hip hop and was just rapping the rest.

It appears to go "I can play rock(sample), but I prefer hip hop(sample) It's Eazy E on your radio non stop !"
If you're looking for the origin of rock and hip hop it sounds like rock is run DMC to me. And hip hop sounds like a female MC but I'm not sure who.
EDIT: I uploaded just the sample

I just got The bluprint 3 off demonoid. I will report back an opinion when I listen to it all.

ahahah on the first track there is a line about sitting at your computer posing with guns and it reminded me of that Stringer Bell fellow who used to post here.

First listen on Thank You I liked it. It had some good lines in it. One especially (about him having 10 number one albums) made me smile.

Ok I have listened to it a few times over the day. The first 5 tracks are immense. The rest of the album hasn't really floored me yet, but it might grow on me. So far its fairly solid though.

It was Kingdom Come when basically Jay-Z grew up. Then American Gangster and now this? It looked like grown Jay-Z got better as this album was better than those 2 (which is nothing against AG because that was a good one).

I prefer the "grown and sexy" version of all rappers. That's when they finally stop flooding every album with songs about drugs, violence, and gritty street lyrics and talk more about things a normal person can connect with. Plus, it always seems that the production level of their tracks get alot more immense when they go grown and sexy. For example, I know I'm alone, but my favorite T.I. album is the King album. I wish all his albums going forward were like that one. And, obviously, I loved Jay-Z's "Kingdom Come" album.

Fro

I don't really care too much about content. Whether it's gangster/drug rap, conscious rap, grown and sexy rap as you call it, or rapping about love/pussy... it can be done well or not.

With Jay, I'm fine with him reaching the "I'm rich as fuck and settled down with the hottest chick on the planet so my boasting is legit and I can drop some upper class knowledge" stage, but I think his lyricism has fallen off a bit since he took that break after The Black Album. Listening to his last 3 albums I'd say he's still a good rapper but no longer the elite beast on the mic he once was. I think that's bound to happen when you're 39 and have put out as much material as he has.

JRSlim21
September 8th, 2009, 12:42 PM
See I don't mind the "grown man" rap, but "Kingdom Come" was a waste, IMO.

And I'm about to listen to the new Cudi. Everything I've heard from him tells me 2 things: 1) he smokes too much weed and 2) it has potential to be good. Now, I'm waiting for the new Wale.

Is this the same guy that released that awful bassline garage track?

The best 'grown man' album in recent memory is Scarface's "The Fix" and Common's "Be". Not really feeling Jay's take on it too much when these guys set the bar so high. But then again, I've never really been into Jay that much.

It's an obvious point to make but Reasonable Doubt can't be fucked with. Yeah it's braggadocio, yeah it's all about drugs, but it was unbelievable. Can't Knock The Hustle and Brooklyn's Finest are without a doubt the best two tracks he ever made for my money.

Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3 (Review)

1. "What We Talkin' About" - Jay's intro tracks are usually great but this one falls short of expectations. It's grown on me, and even though the hook is annoying the verses are solid. 7
2. "Thank You" - Nice beat, nothing flashy but Jay flows really well over it. 8
3. "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)" - A little underwelming since it's supposed to be his "this aint for iTunes" assault on pop rap, but it's still a good track. Great beat, but I wish the verses were stronger. 8
4. "Run This Town" - Great track all around. Kanye kills it with a great verse, Rihanna sounds good and Jay does his part. 9
5. "Empire State of Mind" - Love it. Song of the album. Alicia Keys knocks the hook out the park. 10
6. "Real as It Gets" - I'm not a Jeezy fan but he's solid here, the beat is ok and Jay comes strong. 7
7. "On to the Next One" - The beat gets more annoying with time but I dig it. 7
8. "Off That" - I like the futuristic beat and fast tempo. Drake is good, Jay's third verse is hot as shit. 8
9. "A Star Is Born" - Corny hook, forgettable beat. I don't know who J. Cole is but he saves the song with a great verse. 6
10. "Venus vs. Mars" - Tight beat but the flow is meh. 7
11. "Already Home" - I love the Kid Cudi hook. Good beat from Kanye. 8
12. "Hate" - This song is getting a lot of flak but I like it. I just wish it was longer. 7
13. "Reminder" - Pretty bad beat and hook, so-so verses. 5
14. "So Ambitious" - Real smooth beat from the Neptunes. 7
15. "Young Forever" - Mr. Hudson sounds good but out of place. Introspective Jay comes out in full force. 7

Overall the album is good albeit underwhelming. Jay is past his lyrical prime but still a good MC who knows how to make conceptual songs instead of just rapping. From a production standpoint the names in the credits don't live up to the hype but still get the job done. There aren't any Kanye classics on here, and Timbaland falls well short of his reputation (especially for Jay-Z albums). I wish Brooklyn Go Hard was included cuz I think it would have been a standout. Empire State is my favorite track, but even it doesn't lyrically match Jay's old self.

Overall: 7.5
