I heard they pushed back Rakim's album for some newcomer out of Brooklyn. Dre's got his priorities backwards.
Is The Ownerz still set for June 24?

June 12th, 2003, 12:59 AM
Ownerz is still set for June 24th they dropped Right Where U Stand as the new single with Kiss.
There is no point in anticipating Rakims new album, its never coming out.
This Joe Budden album is mad nice, hes got some garbage on it, but nucca is actually talking about something, while other rappers just talk the same shit, hes saying stuff, that 10 min track is straight fire.
Ownerz is my next purchase, and hopefully Urban Legend will drop soon.

I bought Illogic's "Unforseen Shadows" and "Got Lyrics" albums today from sandboxautomatic. I first heard him on the Aesop Rock "One Brick" song and decided I had to hear more.
Going down the alphabetical list there, I saw a title that intrigued me in Insight's "Updated Software V. 2.5" double disc. I remembered he did the production on Mr. Lif's great "I Phantom" album and that was enough for me. Well, not quite enough. I did go to Amazon and listened to the 5 samples they had there. It all sounded great and he sounded like he has a very dope flow.
So, for $46 I have 3 hopefully very good albums coming to me next week. Happy happy:).
Oh...and after this stuff arrives, I am going to order the Gang Starr album from them. With it you get the official Gang Starr t-shirt plus a poster for only 22 bucks. Very hyped for that album.
Later you all. Peace and Love.

"Spartibus" lyrics...credit to PrOx1mo at Canibus-Central. Not everything is quite accurate I don't think but here is the gyst of it. This song is waaay too ill to get mainstream play...
Stoupe uses a very nice sample from Rakim for the chorus!!!
yo, you wanna spar wit bus? then lets get started cuz
atomic thrust turn you into cosmic dust
bomb your borders wit japenese *Spigot Mortars*
recompose ya composition to *saw dust *
time is breath, breath is life, life is light
light is no less then the capitol C on the mic
beneath the mirage of night i'll attack you twice
prepare to river sacrifice for my ritual right
reinforce my habitual likes and dislikes
then diss you on the mic cuz i'm sick of the hype
no one's ever written what i write compare the calligraphy type

with boundless knowledge...like hairless dalia lamas
wit linen garments neatly wrapped around armpits
with monestaries in the mountains..trumpets are already sounded
you can't denounce my crown you Bitch!
Verse 2:
the game is chinese chess...countless issues need to be addressed
before the east nukes the west..totalitarianistic cause and effect
run the words through a decompressor recompress the depth
canibus is the most explosive next to meth
the inconsistency of the text makes me complex
pay attention to bis my attention is this
leave u spacially adrift suspended in the abyss
*but im a white plant owner smell my aroma*

this areas they restrict don't let em through
he'll mock your style ...rock you to the ground
with the bite force of a *sicacidus* crocidile
travel a fiber optic mile before you can smile
so dont ask me why...and dont ask how
Verse 3:
till i'm impressed with the print i can hear a pin drop like sprint
once it blends i can stop right then
quantam coupled mechanizms and techinical shit
confuses you but i dont think you're any less of a dick
just define what is poetry and what is rap
i demonstrate how to effectively bridge the gap
the answer is simple in fact
if the protons don't attack the retina all we'd ever see is black
no ability no extra-occular motility silly emcees
can't see me lyrically or visually they'll never be better than me
i'll triple team 'em with a trinity 7 to 3 and then i'll give em 9 enemies

surrender and throw in the towel
the amalgam of the ultimate album

QuietStorm - I think I've done a U-Turn on Canibus and now I really really can't get enough of this guy. The songs 100 Bars and 2nd Round K.O really did it for me, so did the absolutely ingenius Bis Vs Rip - that's a very inventive song. Haven't heard anything quite like that before.
I'll do as I damn well please. Thank you much.

QuietStorm, why'd Can-I-Bus get slated for "bad production"?
I've listened to it a fair bit and I don't see any outstandingly bad tunes or whatever, it's not as good as 2000BC and it's quite a bit worse than MicClub, but it's still a good album.
Bis dissed Clef on 2000BC because of the production, I don't get it. It's really not that bad :chin:

Bis dissed Clef on 2000BC because of the production, I don't get it. It's really not that bad :chin:
The reviewer for Blaze magazine said that the beats on Can-I-Bus were bad so stupid little Wyclef walks up in there and pulls a gun out on him. Then everyone else started to follow suit like the little leeches that they are. Canibus has had to live with the reputation of having bad beats ever since. The production on Can-I-Bus wasn't the strongest ever but it was still quite underrated. I remember the second time I heard Buckingham Palace (the first time I was saying "holy shit" about the lyrics) I was saying "holy shit" about the beat. Still is my favorite Canibus solo song ever.
When Canibus says "motherfucking Wyclef spoiled it" on 2000 B.C, I think he was referring more to the gun incident and not necessarily to the beats. I don't think Bis has never really cared a whole hell of a lot about the beats anyways. Like he said, "I frog leap over awful beats". But Stoupe looks to be changing all of that.
As for Spartibus, after listening to it many times over now, I am somewhat disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I still think it is very hot. But for a single? The first verse is all 2000 B.C but then after that he goes into MiClub mode and gets all scientific on us. Regular fans don't really want to hear that stuff on the radio. In fact, I don't think I have ever heard a song like that on the radio. It won't get any airplay. Badass song though. It'll be in my car until July 22nd.

For all the haters out there who be trying to pigeon hole Budden this album will shut up the cunts. Hey SAT, Premo samples Canibus on the title track for the album. "One two, one two...shot of vodka and gin". Very nice. The album is pure Gang Starr. Just about exactly what I was expecting. Premo proves he is arguably the best producer on the east coast.

You don't really want it
No ice just heat
You don't really want it
Playa face defeat
That was a nice try Nelly
I don't mean to be bold, but put that "Hot in herre" bullshit on hold
And let's get down to the facts of the matter
In the dictionary under wack rap, you the rapper
It's simply cuz you're lacking the spectacular vernacular
And hip hop's character seems to be in back of ya
Either that or you're truly amateur
I'm askin ya, how does it feel to have the whole world laughin at ya?
You just too stupid to see
I was made on the streets, you was made on MTV
How you gonna talk about my nose to attack me?
When you steady guzzlin them pills for your acne?
My nose comes from a line of kings
Your acne comes from you eatin the wrong things
Your words don't make me hurt, they make you work
You'll hurt when you find it's you gettin jerked
I tell ya, it don't take me to say
Don't buy your album, street cats ain't buyin it anyway
You tellin me make up my mind
Yet on your album, you don't know if you wanna sing, or rhyme
[CHORUS]
You tryin to diss me? How?
If it wasn't for the true-school your bitch-ass wouldn't be here now
Blau blau, show me respect from the gate
Or I'ma have to drown you kids like Andrea Yates
You can't handle the break, I'm a flamethrowa, you a bic lighta
You think I'm cocky cuz you a dickrida
I spit tighter
I'm not like all the rest I'm not a playa but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express
So nevertheless I'ma teach ya, teach ya
But when them slugs hit you, you'll be screamin, "Momma, EI! EI!"
You never seen me sing? You don't know what I bring?
You'll be singing the blues like BB King
I'm all about the unity of Miss and Mistas
You all about grabbin money and dissin our sistas
Take your ass back to TV land
And let this be a lesson, you can't see me man!
[CHORUS]
Just when I thought I could do my gospel
And become an apostle I got a whole to get hostile
I don't mean to knock ya Nelly
But ain't you that MTV house nigga with a spine like jelly?
I'ma do this by the book, for the art
I heard what you said on BET's 106 and Park
But what you don't know, is right around the corner on 3rd
I hold a Desert Eagle, and no, it's not a bird
You sound absurd, you're gonna bring ME back?
I taught all year round the spot ??? had
Copycat, with sloppy raps, you chill with N'Sync, I chill where hip hop be at

-Nelly releases a song called #1 which contains nothing against KRS whatsoever
-KRS, realising he is essentially a nobody nowadays, ignored by all except the old school who remember how he used to be before he went on some preaching shit, decides to take this is a diss and reclaim some fame off Nelly's name. That bit was rhymalicious, I could be a rapper.
-So anyway, Nelly rips KRS on Rock Da Mic, showing him up for the tired old rapper who can't accept his time is over.
-KRS, rather than come back with any really hard diss, starts whining about how people shouldn't buy Nelly's record. In an era where record sales are at an all-time low, this guy shows enough disrespect for hip-hop (and whether you like Nelly or not, he is still a representative of hip-hop) that he wants people not to buy his records, makes him a dick.
-KRS backs down and says him and Nelly are friends really.
Nelly killed him.

Don't underrate the underdog - Ja beat 50 and it sounds like Nelly may not have beaten KRS, but he certainly showed he isn't a pushover. I don't rate Nelly at all, but I've never been a fan of KRS - I do think that it's ridiculous to get all pissed off because the guy made a song called number 1. Did he get pissed off when Jay made "The Blueprint"[ and he'd already done that?
On the issue of Canibus: I'm feeling him more than I am Eminem, way more. Em has made one album that I really liked - the others are ok, but not at all as good as the Slim Shady LP.
Canibus hasn't made an album I didn't like, apart from True Hollywood stories which I haven't heard yet.
He's hungry to be the best, Eminem lost that a while ago when people started claiming he was the great white hope that conquered the black industry. Bis is better, Eminem is bitter.

June 24th, 2003, 11:52 AM
I wouldn't recommend getting CTHS. He has a few stellar tracks on there like The Rip Off, Box Cutter Blade Runner, R U Lyrically Fit, and A Different Vibe In LA but it is evident his intent with the album is to mock everything out there and listening to it seems to change peoples opinion of Canibus as a whole. I think he made it to get his name out there since negative criticism is better than nothing at all but it kind of backfired. Oh well. Have you heard his "How Many MC's" track off of The Brainstream yet? Laid back sickness. One of my favorite songs by him ever.
And I agree, the Slim Shady LP is the only album where Eminem was his true self and showed off the extent of his skills. Everything since then has just been meh.
As for Nelly and KRS-One, KRS did blitz him and Nelly did drop Kris' name in Number 1 which is why KRS got peeved but I guess it is over now. They both took their shots, KRS' being greater in my opinion and now it is in the past. Wasn't even really a battle as no one takes Nelly seriously as a battle rapper but at least it gave KRS something to do.
And his new album "Kristyles" is really good so everyone should take notice. Especially the track Underground. I have that on constant rotation right now. Peace all.
Edit: And Ja didn't just beat 50. He beat that whole squad including Feminem:).

I got back from Anger Management this morning, show was off the meat rack!!!!
I was quite near the front too so that was nice.
Doors opened at 2 but first act wasn't until like 6.15 so we had to put with faggot ass Tim Westwood for a good minute, but then Xzibit hit the fucking stage.
Now I am quite a big Xzibit fan, and after seeing the dude rip it up live, I am now a much bigger fan. Set highlights were 'Bitch Pleae', 'What U See Is What U Get', 'Paparazzi', 'Drugs N Alcohol', 'Alcoholic', 'Get Your Walk On', 'Sympthony in X Major' and 'X', by far my favourite act of the night, Xzibit kept the crowd live and hyped em up all through his set, and his voice is soooo fucking dope live, it resounds over the beat which was at some fucking volume too, and he had one dude supporting him, and really he didnt need it, the man has impecible breath control, the whole place was live for X to tha Z!.
The it was Cypress Hill, and I was more than Happy they chose to perform all their old shit, Hits From the Bong, How could I Just Kill Man, Insane in the brain, Pigs, I wanna Get High, I aint Goin Out Like That, When The Shit Goes Down, Cock The Hammer, Hand on the Glock and some others i can't remember off the top, but they were very sick live.
Then it was time for Eminem, he took fucking ages to come out, I guess it has somethin to do with preparing his props and stage set and Pyro, shit started getting mad in the crowd, a 50'000 strong bottle throwing ruck, people were getting busted open and smacked in the face by litre bottles of water and shit, and it was hella funny, quite a site.
The rawkus only got louder when Eminem hit the stage, where he performed Square Dance to open, the audience was clearly going fucking nuts, it was clear that most Eminem fans here wernt hip-hop heads, but it was all good, I was only really getting into his set with some of the songs I knew, like Kill You, Im Back, Stan, The Way I Am, most of it was 8 Mile and TES show shit, although he did perform his verse from Forgot About Dre and the highlight of the set where he brought out Xzibit for Whats The Difference, X fucking ripped it, where as Eminem was relying on the crowd and Xzibit and Proof to support him, X is the fucking man. It was a good show that he put on, lots of Pyro and a nice set with all these video montages, his performance was alright, was a bit fucked up that he didnt spit his own shit him self and had all the members of D12 and Trice spitting half of his verses for him, but still I kinda expected it.
50 Cent wasn't there, was a shame, but I wasn't that bothered, I had an immense time, Milton Keynes Bowl is a sick place to hold a concert, 65'000 strong, and if anything the experience showed me that Xzibit is the fucking don.

Gotta respect Kris for this...
From MTV:
NEW YORK — Even though it's due in stores today, KRS-One has done everything he can to make sure nobody buys his latest album — at least not yet.
"This is insane, this is insane, this is so egregious, this is so devious," KRS-One fumed on Monday, angry at Koch Records' plan to release an album by him called Kristyles. The Bronx battle king, alleging that the record Koch was putting out not only did a disservice to him as an artist and a businessman, but that it was an affront to hip-hop culture as a whole, won a court injunction on Monday to stop its release.
"They don't have the full album," KRS explained. "They have stuff that I wasn't even putting on the album. I have no idea what's on the album [Koch put together]. I don't know what the artwork looks like, I don't know what the album credits look like, I don't know nothing. What they did was go behind my back and release the album. I got word just in the nick of time last week. I got my legal team together and we slapped them with a court order to cease the distribution and the pressing and manufacturing of this album."
Despite KRS' efforts, Kristyles had already been shipped out and was being sold by some stores on Tuesday.
KRS-One said he's still working on his album, which he plans on calling The Kristyle, and trying to secure appearances from Dirt McGirt and Wesley Snipes. But ODB and Snipes aren't the only things missing from the version Koch has assembled; the disc also lacks KRS' tribute to Jam Master Jay.
"Do they care about the death of Jam Master Jay?" he continued. "Oh, you mean to tell me that the fake album you're putting out right now, you omitted KRS-One's tribute to Jam Master Jay? Oh no, no, no. That's ridiculous. That's wack. This is a problem. This ain't about no money, this ain't about me not selling a record, this is about principle. We cannot allow these record companies to dictate to us how we are going to present hip-hop to the world."
KRS-One also said he's upset about Koch's naming the disc Kristyles rather than The Kristyle, which he explained is an acronym for "To have everything, keep radiating in sprit through your love everyday."
He said the last conversation he had with Koch was sometime in early May, when he and the label discussed pushing the album back from its June 24 release date because issues had to be resolved concerning the LP's press campaign, the video shoot for a first single and a photo shoot for the album's packaging.
The legendary MC, who said The Kristyle was supposed to spell the end of his contractual obligations to Koch, also divulged that his talks with the label ceased after the company's execs insisted on communicating only through both parties' lawyers.
On Tuesday Koch released a statement about the injunction reading: "Koch and [its hip-hop/R&B imprint] In the Paint Records do not comment on the specifics of pending litigations. They believe that they have acted appropriately and expect to be vindicated in court."
KRS-One said the album he's still working on could be released as soon as the next few weeks. He plans to sell it for $10 through the phone number (866) HIP-HOP-9 and on his summer tour of the West Coast and Midwest. He also plans to make the LP available for download on KaZaA.
"I don't need my fans to buy my music," he explained. "My music is free, basically. I appreciate when people buy my music, but I'm not going to sit here while some company rips my fans off."
KRS-One and Koch are due back in court on Friday for a hearing to determine whether the injunction will be upheld.

Ja Rule - Venni Vetti Vecci
This is back when Ja was an excellent MC. When I bought the album I didn't know what to expect, I liked his single, Holla, but that was all I had heard. He had a good voice and nice flow, so I decided to try my luck with the cd. I fell in love with it after listening to it a few times. Good combination of topics, nice production, you could feel the passion coming from him. This Ja could have been a real force in hip hop, too bad he turned into such a terrible rapper down the line, maybe his next album, Black Dove or whatever will see the return of the Ja Rule from his debut album.
8.5/10 - Good production, diverse lyrics, feeling in his music
Not a real review, but numbers for his other albums
Rule 3:36 - 6/10 Few good songs, lot of filler crap too
Whatever his other albums were after his sophomore - 2/10 each, heard one or two decent songs off of them and the rest crap

Murda Muzik has it's moments and "Quiet Storm" and "Where Ya Heart At" are two of my favorite Mobb tracks ever. But overall, it just has too much of a commercial feel. And a lot of the songs they left off due to the massive bootlegging of the album:$ were better than some of the ones they left on. Prodigy still had it at that point though (he was great up through his solo album and then proceeded to majorly suck) and proves he has the greatest voice in all of rap. Havoc is ok but since that album he has done the opposite of Prodigy and improved majorly with his rapping. His beats aren't up to par with "The Infamous" and "Hell On Earth" and are more commercial as I said before but overall they are solid. There aren't really any true skip-over tracks at all and if you like the Mobb as I do (where the fuck do you think UMDeepTerp and QuietStorm came from?) then I am sure you will love this album.
And the Buddens album does suck. But that is just my opinion.

Buddens album dosnt suck, and you can say that its 'just my opinion', but you're opinions dont justify that it sucks, because simply it dosnt suck, yup.
Murda Muzik was good, it had more of a polished sound to it than the previous efforts, but as an album it's better than 90% of the stuff that comes out to day, my favourite cuts from the album are Streets Raised Me, Whats Ya Poison feat. Cormega, Let a Ho be a Ho, I'm Going Out, Quietstorm, Where Ya heart at, Can't Fuck Wit, Thug Muzik, The Realest, It's Mine feat. Nas (gotta love the scarface score sample)
I liked that album more than I thought.

Yall know they don't even make Return to the 36 chamber of Shoalin: Dirty Version (ODB's first cd) anymore... And mine got stolen.. Someone needs to rip all the tracks and send them to me...

Well, just got 5 new albums, listened to em all a couple of times and don't have time to review them, but here's ratings.
Joe Budden - Joe Budden 7.5/10
Good debut album, favorite song on the album would probably be Survivor.
Talib Kweli - Quality 8.5/10
Excellent album, loved pretty much every song on it, like the title of the album suggests, Quality. Favorite song would be Get By, so far.
Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek - Reflection Eternal 9/10
Better album overall than Quality imo, every song on the album just rocks. Favorite song is Good Mourning.
Common - Electric Circus 8/10
Another good album, full of soul and goodness. Not sure of favorite song yet as I've only listened to it once, but a good album.
The Roots - Phrenology 9/10
Another very good buy by me. Need to listen to it more to determine favorite song.

Malik should've had more verses on TFA. I think Dice had even had more than him, but he's good, so it doesnt really bother me.
The collab with Mos is so ill. The beat and chemistry is amazing
It's disrespectful to hear Loon use the same sample that the Roots did on "without a doubt". Thought killed that track, but Loon butchered it
TFA is probably one of my favorite's (after ATLiens and Aquemini) The hidden track is so dope and the poem by Ursula Rucker is really good.

"As an artist my style is amorphous. Sometimes I adjust and adapt, other times I refuse to. My skill isn't affected by my being here. The listeners of my music have the choice to either grow with me, move on to something more fulfilling or stay behind. I can't choose your speed for you. I can only choose the tempo that fits me. It does seem that my style is more mature than it used to be. I stepped it up with imagery and vocabulary. I make references to other poets and writers in my rhymes more often than I have in the past. Running an independent label makes you more responsible by default. Sure you have less resources but it forces you to squeeze the most out of every opportunity. I have become a better artist by paying more attention to the art than the industry surrounding the art." -Canibus in a new interview on allhiphop.com
Canibus "Rip the Jacker"
1. Intro (0:32)
Just a short intro with an eerie beat and sample that provides the perfect start to this album
2. Genabis (4:12)
You may have already seen me talk about this song and you might have even heard it already. I love the religous overtones comparing his career to what God went through creating the earth and seeing us ruin it. One of the only songs on the album with a chorus that isn't a sample. The first verse may be my favorite of the entire album. Wow.
3. Levitibus (4:00)
This song has probably the best beat I have heard since the beat Stoupe did for "Blood Runs Cold" by JMT. The chorus is perfect with the samples taken from JMT and various others with a nice eerie woman's voice singing in the background. As for the lyrics, Canibus gets pretty deep with his own history in his own unique way and proves he is the best there is. He even speaks a little on why he did the whole Stan concept on CTHS.
4. M-Sea-Crazy (3:50)
Starts off with a woman talking in the sample and then gets into the beat and Canibus spitting more crazy-good lyrics. Whoever thinks he is talking nonsense really needs to study his lyrics more than once. It is waaay more deeper than the surface. This song might take more than one listen to grow on you but once it does you won't want to turn it off.
5. No Return (4:53)
The beat isn't quite as strong on this one but still fits in perfectly and the chorus is one that I am sure everyone will love. Canibus speaks one of the coolest stories I have ever heard in this song. I'll leave it at that. You will have to listen to it for yourself to get the full effect. His imagery in this song is incredible. It makes you feel like you are right there in the story/stories with him.
6. Spartibus (3:59)
Probably the weakest song on the album. It was the single but didn't have the feel of a single at all. Sure the beat was amazing and sounded Egyptian to fit in with the vibe of the song and Canibus' lyrics are great at times but just unnecessary nonsensical babble at other times and overall he just spits very uninspired and being that it was the first song I heard, I almost had a bad feeling about what the rest of the album was going to be like. Boy was I wrong. I do really love when he says "Just define what is poetry and what is rap, I demonstrate how to effectively bridge the gap". The third verse is definitely the best one but unfortunately the shortest.
7. Indibisible (3:59)
Ready for a little salsa on the beat? It is great, never heard anything like this before. His lyrics on here are once again out of this world. Canibus is not human. Can I just say something? It has long been said that all Canibus can do is battle. This album is not really a battle album at all. Sure there are battle lines every now and then but it is NOT a battle album. His only album out of his 5 now that has been truly a battle album is 2000 B.C which was probably his most critically acclaimed album since people are IDIOTS and didn't give Can-I-Bus the respest it deserves. Before this album EVERYBODY wanted Canibus to go back to his pre-99 style but now from everything I have read and heard, hardly anyone wants that anymore. Almost everyone is in agreement that this is the best that Canibus has ever done. This song is just too good. A must listen.
8. Showtime At the Gallow (4:41)
Another beat that provides the perfect landscape for Rip the Jacker to speak some on the LL battle and his disagreements with Eminem. The reason I talked about the battling aspect of this album in the review of "Indibisible" is because "Showtime At the Gallow" is a true battle track. Probably his most angry track on the album, he just kills everything about this track. One of my favorites. The beat actually sounds like you are going to a show of some kind. In this case to watch "Rip the Jacker crucify you with verse". If you have heard MiClub: The Curriculum, you know
what I am talking about:).
9. Psych Evaluation (3:51)
Stoupe blazes this beat crazy. This album just gets darker and darker into the Rip the Jacker ego the farther it goes on. "They ask Canibus will you ever run out of things to say, how much breath can a man breath in a day". Just too good. I really am spoiled. But the best is yet to come. Believe me.
10. Cemantics (3:40)
The beat from the last song flows perfectly into this one, making it almost a sequel. It is eerily similar but I think I like this one even better because of the awesome samples used for the chorus. Science and imagery at it's best. The guy does so much reading and research it is crazy. I wish he wasn't so much of recluse but in the end that is probably why I love him as much as I do. His flow in this song is perfect as it is in every other song. It is amazing how Stoupe took the acapellas and perfectly orchestrated the design of the beats to go with Canibus' words.
11. Poet Laureate (7:18)
You know you are supposed to save the best for last right? Most definitely. Germaine Williams proves that he is the greatest rapper of all time, rapping 200 straight bars for over 7 minutes on the final track of the album behind another outstanding Stoupe beat that changes twice during the song and then goes back to the original beat at the end. It is going to take me 10 years to interpret everything he says in this song and still probably will never have it mastered but right now my favorite line has got to be "I've been banned from the rap hall of fame cause of 2 bars, them 2 bars echo in my brain". If you don't know, the two bars he is referring to are from the song 4,3,2,1 with Redman, Method Man, DMX, and of course LL Cool J when he says "L is that a mic on your arm, let me borrow that" referring to the tattoo that he asked LL if he could have too. LL told him to change his verse, which he did, and then LL proceeded to still diss him leading to the full-fledged battle. The best battle of all-time in my opinion. Sure some people say Pac and Biggie but was it really that great when both of them ended up dead and when they were alive it was only Pac doing all the dissing. They were both overrated in my opinion. LL and Canibus kept it strictly in the music. LL is still gay though:). Ok back to the actual song, this is probably the best rap song I have ever heard. Just think about 7 minutes of straight rapping behind a beat that makes you go wow and lyrics that do the same. Simply incredible. For the first 2:17 it is Rip telling you how great Canibus is/was and then he lets Canibus share some of his poetry for the next few minutes when the beat changes and then at 5:52 it goes back to the original beat and holy shit does Rip tear it up the rest of the way. It is no wonder that his alter ego is selfish about giving up the mic.
Ok, this album as a whole is definitely a 10/10. I would probably give MiClub: The Curriculum an 8.5 or 9 out of 10 but this one is a straight 10. Besides Canibus delivering his best lyrics ever in my opinion, he finally has a producer in Stoupe that matches his ability and gives him the perfect landscape for his unmatched talent. I am hoping and praying that Canibus still has more great albums in him and more than anything that Stoupe remains his main producer. And now I can't wait for the Jedi Mind Tricks album "Visions of Gandhi" on August 26th. If Stoupe provided Canibus with production as amazing as this, just think of what he is going to do for his own group. Wow is all I can think of.

To me it seems like 200 but someone counted it and said 164. And yeah, early signs point to the next album being called "The Exobus Scripts". I mean, in the chorus to "Genabis" he refers to Genabis, Exobus, and Levitibus. Two of the chapters are songs on the RTJ album. And then in Poet Laureate 2 he says "he claimed he had written the greatest rhyme of all time, but he would never take out of his archive". I think what he is referring to is "Exobus".

The Fugees - The Score
R Kelly - Chocolate Factory
De La Soul - Best Of
Redman - Whut Thee Album
Redman - Muddy Waters
Redman - Dare Iz a Darkside
Redman & Method Man - Blackout
Ice Cube - The Predator
Ludacris - Back For The First Time
I like The Predator best right now, I've never really listened to Cube much before - though this album is quality through and through. Best song on it is probably "It Was A Good Day".
As you can see I'm getting right into Redman after having bought Malpractice ages ago and liking it - though not enough to do much about it. Anyway Brennino told me about his older stuff a while ago and so I've bought them all at once :)

Pick up The Low End Theory and People's Instinctive Travels... as soon as possible. If you like those, pick up Midnight Marauders as well. They are undeniably three of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. I'm glad someone brought this up because everyone should listen to these albums. Q-Tip is simply brilliant on the mic, and Phife is almost equally dope. They self-produce pretty much all their music and their beats are highly Jazz-influenced (especially Low End Theory). All in all, there are few others who could match the lyrical and musical quality that the Tribe created with their first three albums.

All the credit for the first part of this goes to The 4th Horseman from Canibus Central. I edited a few spelling mistakes but that is it. This is all his work but I agree with a lot of his opinions on this...the greatest writing Canibus has ever released.
I added a little at the end about what some of his references and lines are all about but whatever. This is long so skim if you want. But it is really interesting...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before you proceed, let me make this clear, I know Canibus is human. And I know he's just one man and the mans name is Germaine but I'm infatuated with the intrigue of the possibilities and potential of Bis, Rip and Germaine, although I know it's just Germaine. I know he also may make mistakes in his writing, far fewer than other artists, but nonetheless there may be continuity issues in Poet Laureate II that I may seem to be too picky about, but hey, thats what Bis wants... I'm trying to evolve with him instead of standing still asking for "Pre 99" Bis. I'm testing him... testing me... trying to move forward with him so I'm always at least parallel to where he is.
Poet Laureate II... a unique combination of flow, mood, visual imagry and wordplay... but there's something even more unique and intriguing about this song. It's told from the minds of 2 artists, only one of which is with us throughout the whole track... once you get a grasp of both of their styles, you can enjoy their work that much more and decipher between their styles... Canibus does it again... and I thought Bis Vs Rip was a gem. Whereas Bis vs Rip had the 2 Poets fighting for command of Germaine... this has the more widely known ego speaking on the lesser as if the lesser was deceased... or something was preventing him from speaking on his own behalf... interesting. Of the 2 forementioned artists, it seems as if Canibus tells us a vivid story touching on Rip... his, umm... how would you put it, his Mr. Hyde, Science, The State Of Hip Hop, rare oriental trees, time machines, battling, his black cloud and comes full circle back to what he knew from jump... he is probably the Best Yet.
But something about this track is strange IMO... First off, I'm not sold that Rip The Jacker exists anymore... sold to us as another more vicious, more potent and unforgiving version of Germaine on track 10 on Mic Club, I was so a believer in Rip, a believer in "The Trinity" and that he was the peak of the Trinity... but upon further research, I think Canibus is suffering from a similar complex to the one Norman Bates suffered from in Psycho... Canibus is Rip in the same way Norman was his mother, he just doesn't notice it. The wordplay similarities in Mic Club and Rip The Jacker is all the evidence needed to shoot down my original impression of "The Trinity". Canibus seemingly is the artist that takes us from the beginning to the end of the track and recites a verse or 2 that Rip The Jacker penned... Rips verse sounds a lot like Master Thesis if you ask me which supposedly was a Canibus track... but I'll save that for later... where does Rips verse end? Or is it Bis reciting Rips lyrics throughout the remainder of the track... or is the ENTIRE track from start to finish words that Rip spoke. See... After the question is asked "Why is The Ripper so ill? That would be an unpardonable breech of confidence for me to reveal" Canibus says "He" seemingly still referring to Rip, and from then on, it seems that he is referring to things that Rip said or did.
So... if I'm right, and Rip is just a buzz word, and it's all Canibus, then why is Bis speaking on Rip like he's a whole seperate entity? Why dosen't Germaine (C True Hollywood Stories) ever say anything? Thats another story too... Poet Laureate II is a puzzle disguised as a rap song... and the pieces are scattered across the nation.... but then again... if these words are by Rip and that isn't just a buzzword... that would explain one of Canibus most prolific lyrical exhibitions in the original Poet Laureate and how it pales in comparison to the current version Poet Laureate II.
I dont know, I got a million and one theories and figured, there ain't no better place to politic them than amongst my fellow Druids.
---------------
"He said one of these days all eyes will be on me
When they look up in the sky and see the neon C"
---------------
He said? So is this a conversation Bis had with Rip before? Is Rip telling Bis "all eyes will be on you Bis" Or is Rip saying to Bis "Bis one day all eyes will be on me, Rip." Going by the "story" they are seperate entities... starting with Bis vs Rip, we know Rip (Momma Bates) does not think of himself as neither Germaine nor Canibus "I'm Satan, Canibus is a Mason..." He's stating there, they are very different. He's saying this line to Bis in a more calm mood than the Rip we were introduced to on Mic Club, and he's telling Bis one day people will look up in the sky and see the Neon "C". But a second later he's telling Bis "the time machines inventor will mention me", is he referring to himself, RIP? The Trinity or Bis? Wait... it gets even more confusing.
If Rip was just talking to Bis and Bis is telling us of the convo they had before he gets into Rips rhymes later in the track... why does he say in the next line:
----------------
"Canibus WAS a visionary indeed"
----------------
All right, wtf is going on (by the way, I love it that Bis makes me look into shit this deep, this is why he's probably the best yet) this is what I know so far... Bis and Rip seemingly had a convo some time ago, Canibus was letting us know what happened during the conversation and now here comes a line that contradicts Canibus even being the leg of the Trinity we're just listening to... so was it Germaine all along? Telling us a story about what he saw transpire between Bis and Rip? How is Canibus suddenly past tense when he was just our narrator.
Here is where for me.... it gets confusing beyond reason, I only want to fully grasp the picture the narrator is painting, thats why I have so many discrepencies... but it's all in the name of progress. So far, Bis asked us why is the Ripper so ill rhetorically, then spoke some words Rip once said, then come to find out Germaine himself has taken over... here's where it get's wild... it seems as if someone is now speaking about CANIBUS for the remainder of this section before the beat changes when it once seemed Canibus was speaking to us.
----------------
Canibus was a visionary indeed
He believed light could travel in multiples of C
The organic supercomputer that solved the mysteries that Kline Colusa with 2 blue metric rulers
Liked Cool J, but thought Steven J. Goul was cooler
And he never liked to propagate rumors
Smoked Canary Island cigars
Liked American luxury cars and beautiful Asian broads
He had a strong mind
He used to philosophize about rhymes while he was pruning his Bonsais
He claimed that he had written The Greatest Rhyme Of All Time
But he would never take it out his archives
He wrote 2 songs per day
And was constantly was experimenting with his wordplay
In his youth he did a report on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
He got an F but he deserved an A
I followed his career from the 1st day
It seemed the lack of support contributed to his inert ways
I seen him pull in 24 hour workdays, with deferred pay, undeterred by the word shame
Public humiliation was the worst pain
He was spinning out of control like a class 5 hurricane
He said he wouldn't want another emcee to suffer the same, especially when there's nothing to gain
He was The Illest Alive
But nobody would face it
He spit till his tongue was too torched to taste it
Privately funding corporations, carbon dated his latest creations, to extract the information
They found it utterly amazing
They claimed the body of his work was the same thing as a priceless painting
Never mattered to him, that art galleries hated him
Cause Thomas Kincaid called him, said he would take 10
Complete enigmas wrapped in puzzles encrypted in language with sound but without shape or signature
Kept files in his garage, on MS-DOS
In a fire-proof pod, we thought it was odd
Outside there was a shed with an Oppenheimer lock
He apparently kept more wax then Madame Tusauge
We were in total awe, cause it blew our minds
So many rhymes that were intricately designed
He WAS Poet Laureate of his time, and if you don't mind, I'd like to share some of his rhymes
---------------
You know what, I've said enough... I though Rip was the thinker of the trio... judging by the way he manhandled Bis on Bis vs Rip and the type of verse he spit, it seemed that he'd be the more complex, but so far, whoever is speaking about Canibus is making it seem as if Canibus is the brains... "He believed that light traveled in multiples of C"? WTF? When I first heard there was gonna be a track called Bis vs Rip, I thought to myself, good geezus, Canibus is gonna blaze himself, and I bet on Bis, only to be left with my jaw on the concrete by what actually took place... from then on, Rip has been the monster to me and Bis... he's been you know... the victim... Rips prison bitch... but now hearing this person explain Canibus and how he spent time "pruning his bonsais" doing reports on the "Digital Sky Survey" as a youth...
This song has straight up and down, fucked me up... I keep it on repeat in the car when no ones in it with me, cause I will decode this shit, reguardless if people think I'm looking into it too deep, if Canibus thought like those people... we wouldnt have a Poet Laureate II... this track is the hardest joint I've ever experienced from Canibus as far as figuring it out... he's outdone himself... I tip my hat to Canibus... you are the illest alive... you've changed the course of many lives, made average hip hop listeners become lyric researchers, taken hip hop and turned the knob to the right full throttle. Thank you.
Lastly... the only answer I have for that first section is "My Face Shift Into 45 Degrees, I'm too crooked to see" If there was a video for this track, he'd be shape shifting throughout the whole thing... thats the only way I can think to explain the contents of Poet Laureate II... which would have been better billed as an original (title wise) other than a sequel to an already classic track.
"For 2 bars I kept hearing in my head over and over again... it cost me everything"

"Alone in my room, looking thru the 32X telescope zoom, adjusting the focus of the moon
One should not assume the philosophy of David Hume, is nothing more then a subjective conclusion
What is the maximum field rate application?, the run away glaciation surrounding the ocean basin, affects the population, fluctuation on a continuous basis but thats just the basics"
David Hume was an empiricist which means he thought that we gain knowledge only as a direct result of experience of the world via the senses. Thus, without any humans/subjects there would be no knowledge so it is a subjective philosophy. As a result many thinkers classified him as providing a subjective philosophy that at it's fundamental levels implies that human beings have no knowledge before we are born (i.e., of god, other dimensions, other thinking beings, etc.), we learn everything through our subjective experience of the world.
However, then another group of philosophers said that Hume actually did believe in God and allowed for knowledge of God in his philosophy if you read it correctly. I don't remember exactly why, but I can get the answer by grabbing my old college notes and I'll post it when I get it. The point is that Bis is one of these new Hume thinkers who isn't buying the idea that Hume just offers a philosophy that is simply a form of subjectivism and doesn't allow for metaphysical (beyond the physical realm) possibilities (in other words, Bis is saying don't fall for the old way people interpreted Hume). And people say Bis is just throwing big words and historic names unintelligabley in his rhymes nowadays, bullshit. He is just that smart.
"The organic supercomputer that solved the mysteries of Clan Calusa with 2 blue metric rulers"
(Calusia indians artifacts containing biblical mysteries)
"Outside there was a shed with an Oppenheimer lock, he apparently kept more wax than Madam Tussauds"
(Madame Tussauds is a museum in which wax models of celebrities are made, kept more wax ie vinyl)
"Words of scourn are a disasterous tool, from an existentialist view, im a better rapper than you"
(" Man is nothing else but that which he makes of himself. That is the first principle of existentialism" - J.P. Sartre)
"Grab the mic and rip your physical fabric in 2, my attitude is fucked up and abrogable"
(abrogable = capable of annuling by an authoritative act to abolish by the authority of the maker or his successor; applied to the repeal of laws, decrees, ordinances, the abolition of customs, etc. "Let us see whether the New Testament abrogates what we so frequently see in the Old". Basically Bis is saying that although his attitude is "fucked up" it is a consequence to his circumstance but it is "abrogable" and the fucked-up attitude can be revoked.
"And nobody gives a fuck no more, no one goes to the book store, ever since the influence of Moore's Law"
(The observation made in 1965 by Gordon Moore that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits had doubled every year since the integrated circuit was invented. Moore predicted that this trend would continue for the foreseeable future. In subsequent years, the pace slowed down a bit, but data density has doubled approximately every 18 months, and this is the current definition of Moore's Law, which Moore himself has blessed. Most experts, including Moore himself, expect Moore's Law to hold for at least another two decades - Basically I am saying that nobody reads anymore due to the constant and consistent increase in computers and the digital age)
"Lyrically I take rap music and turn the knob, to the right full throttle and add panache"
(Panache = flair, style, elegance = added the flamboyance to rap music)
"But I stay in the lab, like Niels Bohr, the Son of God, Edward Lawrence and Leo Salade"
Niels Bohr and Ernest Rutherford studied the structure of the atom. Bohr greatly extended the theory of atomic structure in 1913 when he explained the spectrum of hydrogen by means of an atomic model and the quantum theory. He received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1922 for his work on radiation. Bohr greatly aided the making of the atomic bomb, but his morals kept him from working whole-heartedly. He wrote a public letter to the United Nations in 1950 calling for peaceful atomic policies. Bohr received the first Atoms for Peace.
And my favorite line in the whole entire song...
"This is the line of real, the circle of time
the cycle of eternity, the emergence of one line"
Take a straight line, it has a beginning and an end or two opposite sides.
This straight line represents the line of real, or reality, how we experience our reality and our experiences through linear time. Because we all know, our experiences/reality travel foward in time in straight linear fashion.
But by observation, you can also note that life is cyclical, a chain of cyclical events.
If you take the line of reality, connect both opposite ends, you bend the line until you make the shape of a circle = the circle of time = the cycle of eternity, that connection is the emergence of one Line.
