Pfft...I wouldn't trust you with a mouthful of jizz, Tric.

Kris - I mean heavy as in like...bass wise and in terms of being an aggressive song.

See:

Troublesome '96 by Pac
New York - Ja, Joe, Jada
Platinum Plus - Big L, Big Daddy Kane
Aint No Half Steppin - Big Daddy Kane
Also the beat from This Is How We Do by Game and 50. They wasted the lyrics but I'd do the beat goodness.

You no like the song? I think its a crazy song...Em and Obie shine...especially Em on the beat...

Seanny One Ball

Em hasn't shined since SSLP.

MMLP was decent, I regret paying for it though.

Three 6 Mafia-Is Anyone Out There

MOP-Ante Up
UGK-Murder
RZA-Where Ever I Go
Ghetto Boys-Scarface (interlude)

I'll add more as I think of them..

p.s. all those songs are bass heavy..hope that's what you meant..

Aye. I didn't think of the Tupac version. I have it though: bass is definetely heavier on that version as well.

I never knew DMX did one, so I'm on ares as we speak.

Track 16 off It's Dark and Hell is Hot, methinks..

Want to talk about awesome samples, MOP's "Cold as Ice" is outstanding..

Stringer Bell
July 10th, 2005, 8:36 PM
Or everything in the RZA's discography, especially Supreme Clientele. Some of the best hip-hop sampling ever if you ask me.

Pretty Toney has some dope samples too... fuck that sped up shit, "Holla" shows you how to REALLY freak those old soul samples..

Speaking of MOP, it's a shame they're officially G-Unit now. I just can't see that partnership turning out for the better..

Tis a damn shame.. Last I heard they'd recorded an album for Rocafella and Dame Dash still was going to release..

:dunno:

Stringer Bell
July 10th, 2005, 8:51 PM
Yeah, that album was never gonna see the light of day. What was it, two summers ago, when they were dropping singles for it? "Put It In the Air" was promising... the Roc was more concerned with dropping corny shit like Young Gunz, I guess.

I dunno if Dame is still gonna put out the material they recorded or what. But they're officially signed with G-Unit now (there's even a MOP/50 Cent track out), same with Mobb Deep :(

Dont try and say i dont buy CDs. I dont download any cds. I may download mixtapes and singles, but if there is an album I want, Ill spend the measly 10-15 dollars for it. I just bought Royce Da 5'9 'Independents Day', Cassidy 'Ima Hustla', Common 'BE', Beanie Sigel 'B.Coming' Boyz n Da Hood, etc...

I get all this hate jus for saying I like a fucking song. Yall is acting like Im a g-unit groupie. I done said I like the song, yall dont have to. I like it for Em, the beat and Obie. Ill say it now, I cant stand Tony yayo. The only rapper in G-unit, I like is Young Buck. I thought he had a great CD. And yes, MOP, Mobb Deep and G-unit is just wrong, I wouldnt of minded seeing them as just part of Aftermath but not what 50.

Anyways, anyone hear Joey got a 2.5 from both The Source and VIBE magazine. The Growth so far isnt that much...

I don't really care what you buy. I burn music all the time. The music industry and Hollywood, it is all the same. They tell you how much money they are losing and it is all one huge lie. I support Canibus, Cage, Aesop Rock, AZ, Ras Kass and a few various others....that is about it unless there is an album I want in my collection.

And that was a nice little diss by Chino, because Eminem's albums are in secondhand stores for 99 cents all the time.

One Ball, its not the same shit your thinking, it aint describing it as a person or a persons name, or saying anyone is a "trick." It means The Rest iz Conquered. Roc isnt referring Roc-a-fella,,,It uses the Roc as in the stepping stone, the arrival...

Man Im tired of all your shit talking, just cuz you spend countless hours in front of a computer screen trying to act tough, in front of people who really dont give a shit about you, it doesnt mean shit to me. i dont care who you are or who your trying to be, just stop, grown up people are trying to have a talk, and its not gonna get anywhere if you keep giving out hate to everyone who has a damn opinion.

Cassidy and Boyz N The Hood are garbage, especially Boyz.. more overhyped rap  Those Royce and Common LP's are good though.

Anyway, I'm waiting still eagerly awaiting The Growth, fuck the Source and Vibe. Joey's not my favorite MC, but I love how he gives everything a personal vibe. I'm into a lot of his stuff.

Quiet.. thanks for that Buckshot/9th Wonder LP. Suprised you don't like it.. I mean, if you're not a 9th Wonder fan, I guess that's understandable.. but Buckshot brings that early 90's NY feel, I never tire of it..

DaRocTric

Yeah BNTH and Cassidy are overhyped, Cassidy had like 4 good songs it. No wonder it sold like 92,000 first week. Joey is one of my favorite, I enjoyed his first CD, and I like his song with Nate Dogg 'Gangsta Party'. I like that Buckshot/9th Wonder. I want Royce n MIC to drop some information on 'July 5th'.

I just got the new Stat Quo mixtape. Its nice. I cant wait for him to drop 'Statlanta'. He is just one of the many rapper out there, that dont get enough recognition. Due to the fags in G-Unit.

Yes he does.

I just enjoy their music. I think we can all agree Chammilionaire is smart by dumping 'The Peoples Champ' Paul Wall.

I think Murda Mook is talented and has potential.

Obie is underated.

Saigon = Excellence

Royce = The most underated rapper in the game today.

Immortal technique = You all should know the answer to this...

I basically think just becuase they arent real good lyricist doesnt mean they cant make good music.

Eh. I think all that Houston junk sucks for the most part. Mike Jones, Chamillionaire, Paul Wall, etc.. just not my kind of rap. Honestly haven't heard much of Murda Mook. Obie is average, I'll definitely say he's been stepping his game up. And yeah, Immortal's been one of my favorites for awhile.

Yeah, you don't have to be a great lyricist to make good music (Dr. Dre for example).. but to me, a guy like Paul Wall just sucks.

Bio

What follows below is a detailed life-long history of Chris Palko, aka Cage. While there is a whole lot of information here, none of it is filler; everything detailed below was instrumental in making Cage who he is at this point, and the story below is one of the most insane, crazy, tortured and triumphant stories you could imagine. Cage’s life has gone from watching his father shoot heroin, to addiction and violence and mental institutions to cutting an album for Columbia Records and being a rising star in the heyday of the NYC independent rap scene, to the final culmination and personal triumph that this album has become. It’s a brand new record from someone who has been through more extreme circumstances than most people could ever imagine, and has come out triumphant and a better person because of it, and whose artistic vision now reflects this.

EARLY LIFE:

+ Born in Wurzberg, Germany to American parents. His father, Bill Murray, was an MP in the US army stationed on West German military base where Cage and his parents lived until Bill was dishonorably discharged for selling and using heroin. When he was 4, Cage and his family were sent back to the US where they took up residence in Middletown, NY.

+ When they got to Middletown, his father continued to abuse heroin, often making Cage assist by pulling homemade tourniquets around his arm. His father left them suddenly with another woman. The last time Cage saw his father, he had a standoff with the Middletown state troopers after threatening his family with a shot gun. He was arrested and Cage has not seen him since. He was 8 years old at the time.

TEENAGE LIFE:

+ By the time his mother was on her third marriage, Cage was getting kicked out of Middletown Highschool during his freshman year. His stepfather would beat him up, punch him in the head, even leaving a scar over his eye. Around this time, Cage started using drugs (LSD, mescaline, weed, alcohol)

+ His mother sent him to live with his uncle (a Vietnam vet who never retired from the army) on a German military base for a year. That uncle hated him, beat him up and sent him home to America after a year.

+ Chris started getting into all sorts of trouble, including getting arrested (for drug possession, fighting in the streets, etc). He was 16 years old at this point. He was put on probation for charges, but after several violations found himself facing real jail time. His mother convinced the judge that Chris was mentally unstable and instead of prison he was sent to the Stony Lodge Psychiatric hospital for a 2 week evaluation which turned into an 18 month stay.

+ During his stay at "The Lodge", Chris was part of a small group of medical guinea pigs who were chosen to be the test subjects for a new and untested drug called Prozac, which hadn’t hit the market yet. Misdiagnosed and placed on Prozac, Cage became suicidal and made several attempts to try and kill himself (first by hanging himself by his own shoe laces, then by saving up his mandatory lithium doses for a month and ingesting all at once). He was subsequently put on suicide watch.

+ He was restrained over twenty times for periods of up to 13 hours at a time (illegally), sometimes by straightjacket, sometimes by 10 point bed restraints. Cage would later refer to this period in his life as his "rap college". He would spend his time doing the only thing he could, which was go deep into his mind and hone his imagination into the visceral and dramatic writing style he has to this day.

+ After being subjected to Lithium, Prozac, and a host of other drugs (and then even more drugs to counter the side effects produced by all the initial medication), Chris went from being a troubled teenager into a legitimately bi-polar young man.

+ He was eventually released on outpatient program and christened himself Alex, after the protagonist from A Clockwork Orange.

RAP LIFE:

+ 18 years old, fresh out of the lodge, Cage decided to pursue his the talent he honed while in hell and try to become a professional rapper. He made a demo, got a manager and was introduced to Pete Nice of 3rd Bass fame. Pete featured Cage on his solo effort "Dust to Dust" on the song "Rich Bring ‘Em Back" in 1993. This was his first appearance on a rap record.

+ Through Pete Nice Cage met fledgling radio personality Bobbito Garcia who had just started his soon to be legendary late night mix show with DJ Stretch Armstrong. He was invited up to the show several time, earning a rep in the emerging underground NY scene as a savage and raw new MC with an original style based on his tortured life and demented imagery

+ Through his connection with that show, he met and formed a strong friendship with the KMD (whose front man Zev Love X would eventually be known as MF DOOM) and formed a very strong friendship with the late great Subroc. Cage was the last person to see Subroc alive before he was killed. He also became associated with and close to: Kurious Jorge, K-Solo, Godfather Don, Artifacts, Pharoah Monch, El-P (who actually worked with cage briefly in 1994 on a 3 song demo now lost to the world), the Juggaknots and many more.

+ Bobbito and Pete Nice started a label through Columbia Records called Hoppoh and was on the verge of singing cage as one of their first releases. At this time cage was heavily abusing drugs and every time he got into the studio he was too high to record anything that Columbia thought was worthy of a major label release.

+ Frustrated and dejected, Cage put his rap dreams on hold and moved back to Middletown where he got deeper and deeper in drug abuse and found out he was having a child.

+ In 1997, Cage’s friend and mentor Bobbito Garcia started his own independent label Fondle 'Em Records, and offered cage a twelve inch deal. Refocused and determined to get it right this time, Cage penned the single Agent Orange b/w Radiohead. The single would go on to be one of the landmark records of the golden era of NYC underground/independent rap music and propelled Cage into cult star status.

+ After a few more singles with Fondle ‘Em, Cage met and became friends with Philly to New York transplant rap group The High And the Mighty. He formed a group with them called the Smut Peddlers, and Rawkus (who were riding high on albums by Company Flow and Mos Def, to name a few) offered them a full length album deal through Eastern Conference’s imprint, Eastern Conference. The record sold over 50 thousand copies and solidified Cage’s status as a rising rap star in the independent scene.

+ Cage went on to do more records with Eastern Conference including his first solo record Movies for the Blind. The record was the realization of the very character he became through his tortured early years, relying on raw, savage, often cruel, misogynistic, gritty and rebellious attitudes he had formed through his earlier years. The record struck a chord, selling 15 thousand copies in just 2 weeks, and his legion of dedicated fans grew ever bigger, attracted to his visceral and dangerous persona and music. He traveled the world several times over in support of the record and became a major draw in the independent show circuit.

+ Soon after he started the supergroup Weathermen, comprised of good friends Camu Tao, El-P, Aesop Rock, Yak Ballz, Tame 1, Breeze of the Juggaknots and Vast Aire.

+ Restless with his artistic direction and feeling trapped by a persona created out of his troubled youth, he found himself at a crossroads. He felt as though he was squandering his writing abilities and catering to music with content that only scratched the surface of what he was about. He no longer wanted to project crazy for the sake of crazy and grew tired of showing the results of his past and how they reflected on his personality. Instead, he wanted to explain why he was the way he was and wanted to make a record that he could play for his daughter someday; a record that reflected the man he was now while at the same time finally shedding light on the source of his rage, pain and rebellion. It was at this point that he and El-p started to seriously talk about making an album that would truly realize his desire to take his art to another level. They cautiously talked and imagined this transformation for over a year, culminating with his signing with Definitive Jux records. El-p and Cage worked together to bring these ideas to fruition, and the result is a cathartic and radical statement of a tortured boy turned man. A detailed, imaginative and often disturbing look into the dark territory that Cage had so closely guarded from the fans that loved him.

Puts the "Stripes" track in a whole new perspective.

Damn, that song 'Playas Only' by R. Kelly w/ The Game is a fucking hot track.

It has The Game, Scott Storch producing, and the words "pussy" and "beat it up" in the song: it's close enough to hip-hop for me to mention in here...

Hot track, hot album. R. Kelly is the fucking man.

You heard he is coming out with Trapped in the Closet 6-10. Including a midget. TP3 Reloaded is classic Kells.

You heard he is coming out with Trapped in the Closet 6-10. Including a midget. TP3 Reloaded is classic Kells.

Hell yeah.

I watched the DVD that came with the CD, and at the end, there was a little message from Kelly about the 6-10 parts....

I love the part in Chpt. 5 when he says "Well, well, well: what the f*** is this? A condom in my bed? You better start talkin b****.... before I take a match and burn this MOTHER F***** DOWN!!!!!"

You just have to hear it....

Yeah, Kelly never ceases to amaze me. In fact, I go into his albums thinking "There's no way this album will be as good as the last", or "there's no way I'll enjoy this album as much as last one"... Sure enough, each album is amazing. I really loved Happy People and How Did You Manage from his last album, and even his appearances are awesome, like So Sexy Remix with Twista (You ain't never heard a slow jam like this, never been to island like this) and Wonderful with Ja and Ashanti (Oh-oh-oh-o-oh oh!). Hell, even his bonus songs like Heaven I Need A Hug that are released as add-ons at later dates are amazing.

Well, enough about Kelly..... he's not totally hip-hop.

But my focus was on Playas Only, which is one hell of a song. Scott Storch is rapidly becoming hot shit, possibly the new Kanye West, if he drops an album of his own. I'm not familiar with his work (at least not knowingly). But I've been hearing his name dropped a lot, much like Kanye before he hit it big.

Scott Storch has a lot of nice production...He reminds me a lot of Alchemist, and not cuase he is white, but becuase they do all there work behind the scenes not like Lil Jon, kanye, making CDs and being on tracks.

"Playa's Only" is wack as hell. Hot beat, but Kelly's especially lame on that track. Game spits almost the same bullshit as he did on "How We Do". In my opinion, Kelly hasn't been on his "A" game since that album with "Down Low" and "Cant Seep".

Anyway, yeah, Storch is everywhere. Most recently stuff like Fat Joe's "Get It Poppin".. he really blew up when he did "Lean Back" though. But he originally started with The Roots, that real shit.

Roc :wtf: Alchemist released his own CD, and has rapped on several tracks before. I know what you mean though, the whole point of a producer is to stay behind the boards. Dr. Dre made that producer/rapper popular, and people like Kanye and Lil Jon (if you can call him a rapper) followed.

Anyway, some O.C. news..

No the dude didn’t get locked up. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for his new album. Yep, the D.I.T.C. member’s incredible import LP 'Starchild' has officially been shelved and a domestic release will never see the light of day. Why has this travesty occurred you ask? Well it seems the LP is the latest victim of that mean old sample clearance monster. Several samples, including one from the recently acquitted Michael Jackson, were not officially cleared in the U.S.A. In response to this tragic turn of events Grit Records recently announced they would be giving their entire stock of this album away for FREE to the first 250 O.C. fans to email the label. Of course, the entire stock disappeared in two days. But why would a label simply give away an album that is sure to draw serious scrilla on the collector's scene in a few months? Mahlon Williams, President of Grit Records, believes in the quality of the album so strongly that he feels it would be a travesty to deny any O.C. fan the chance to hear the album. He recently reiterated his position to me stating, &quotWe are a little disappointed by the decisions of 'powerless people who themselves hold a position of power' to strong-arm us into sitting on this album and dealing with them on some 'operational matters'. I figure people need to hear (Starchild) at all costs. Period." Apparently Grit also plans on re-working this album, adding different tracks and re-doing some old ones with sample issues. The new version will be released as an entirely new LP and will hopefully be released before the end of 2005. And don’t fret if you haven’t picked up a copy of Starchild yet or missed out on the free ones, UGHH still has a few left for sale- but they are definitely going fast. -undergroundhiphop.com

Danger Mouse, MF Doom Ready Dangerdoom LP
Jonah Flicker reports:
There's nary an MC as prolific while being consistently "dope" as the one MF Doom ("Definition: super villain, a killer who loves children"). And hot-shit producer Danger Mouse has been on a roll since that whole Grey Album fiasco, more recently taking the reins for Automator in Gorillaz. So why in the good lord's name should these two forces not take a cue from the Wu and form "like Voltron"? Perhaps because two men does not a Voltron make. Or does it just make Li'l Voltron?

It looks like we're about to find out. Whispers have been wafting on the hip-hop winds for some time now, but finally the news is official: October 11th will mark the release of Dangerdoom: The Mouse and the Mask, a co-release between Epitaph Records and Adult Swim. Wait, what's the connection with the Cartoon Network's most popular feature? Well, it's weirdly cross-promotional. According to the press release, the record will feature voices and skits from shows like "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" and "Sealab 2021". This, of course, is no different from all the other live-action comic book samples that have made routine appearances on Doom's records, only now they help sell TVs. So that's good.

There's not exactly a shitload of information on the sound of the record yet, but several guest MCs have been announced, including Talib Kweli, Cee-Lo, and Ghostface. There is, however, lots of related news, like how Danger Mouse has that Gnarls Barkley project in the works with Cee-Lo, and how Doom is said to be working on a record with Ghostface (and, oh yeah, how that crummy Fantastic Four movie-- featuring the menace of one metal-faced "Victor Von Doom"-- is still shitting all over the children). Time and repeat listens will tell if any of these meetings of minds and rhymes will be as fruitful as the Madlib/Doom collaboration, Madvillainy, but until then, you can get out your chromium alloy masks, hide ya face, and always, always hold the mic double-clutch.

Doom, Dangermouse, and [as]? I believe the phrase is "fuck yeah."

I just don't see why every song has to have deep, thoughtfull lyrics. Playas Only is supposed to be a fun, groovy, uptempo track. And in that regards, it succeeds. You may think he fell off hard, but I promise you that will be one of the top five songs of this year if it makes it to single.

I know you're big on lyrics and all, but I don't think every song has to have words of death, ghettos, desperation of grief to be a good song.

I loved 12 play, but I think Kelly is like fine wine. He keeps getting better.

And 'Heaven I Need A Hug' was added onto Chocolate Factory a few months after it had been out, I believe.

Surely not every song has to have deep and thoughtful lyrics. That was part of your argument, not mine. I said that "Playa's Only" and Kelly's new stuff sucked, and you countered with those comments. I just found it bizzarre that you were defending "Playa's Only" with an argument like that. Anyway, yeah, it's a fun and uptempo track.. that doesn't mean it's quality. Neither does being one of the top 5 songs of the year.. but alright.

Yeah, I'm big on hip-hop lyrics, but what does that have to do with R&B? I don't wanna hear about death, ghettos, and grief in my R&B music. 12 Play is about one thing for the most part, and that's sex. Not deep at all, but by far his best work. By the way.. death, ghettos, and grief have nothing to do with good lyrics :wtf:

If you honestly believe that TP-3 or whatever is a better record than 12 Play, we might as well end this discussion now.

Never said TP-3 was better than 12 Play. I was merely defending ONE track (Playas Only) and saying R. Kelly isn't on a downward spiral.

Just because an artist's album isn't as good as a past one doesn't make it a poor one or mean he/she isn't as good as they used to be. Simply means they had a better album at one point.

We all have our own tastes and preferences, but his record sales don't support your claim of falling off (a phrase that's thrown around way too much in hip-hop and rnb, in my opinion. As Homer Simpson said, "You say that so much it's lost all meaning.") TP.3 sold nearly half a million copies in it's first week. Not too bad at all. I'm sure Playas Only will hit number one on the charts, and he'll probably have another top-ten charting single or two off the album.

Not to mention, nearly everything he appears on is a hit. Look at the songs he's appeared in over the last few years that were hits: Wonderful, So Sexy, Contagious, Busted, etc....

Then look at the songs he's written for other people or collaborated with. He wrote Jackson's "You Are Not Alone" (the first single ever to debut at number one on the billboards), his "I'm Your Angel" with Celine Dion, and as I've mentioned before, his ressurection of The Isleys.

I do think 12 Play and R. Kelly (the self-titled album) were his two best albums on the whole, but he's come out with tracks since then that I preffer over any tracks off of those albums. Saying that I think an artist has matured and gotten better doesn't mean I don't think each album is better than the last, just the overall production and quality of his songs can be seen with each passing year.

Stringer Bell
July 17th, 2005, 2:49 PM
Fair enough.. but "You Are Not Alone" is old as hell, and "I'm Your Angel" was on the R album, right after his self-titled. All of that is older work.

Do you really believe that just because songs are successful, they're quality? Mike Jones and Cassidy are two of the best selling rappers out right now..

I'm just saying, I used to be a huge Kelly fan. Didn't really fuck with that album he did with Public Announcement, but 12 Play and self-titled were my jams and I can still play them to this day. R was decent, but everything went downhill from there. He became really sloppy with his songwriting, and the overall quality of his albums declined (even you admitted that).

Like I said before.. that's not to say he hasn't made some great songs since then. Some of those JS tracks were really good too. Just being a fan of his for so long, I'm not that satisfied with his most recent stuff. Ever since TP-2 he's been disappointing me.

If you think he's improved though, that's cool. Happy People was a really mature album, and Chocolate Factory had some quality material.. but neither were 12 Play.

Then again, though, there's not much new rap albums out there at the moment to choose from. The Documentary, The Massacre, Encore, etc. are slipping slowly down the charts now because they've been out a while, and that leaves pretty much only shitty mainstream artists or decent but little known artists to choose from (such as Common or Ghostface).

When Kanye drops his new album, and when and if Dre ever drops his, we'll see rightful people in the top spots again.

I'm not going to bash Americas taste in music, though, because, well..... majority does rule.

I just think it's pretty widely known that America's taste in rap is shit, as it has been since the jiggy era of Puffy and Mase. J-Kwon, 50, Mike Jones, Pretty Ricky, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Juelz Santana, Ja Rule, Fabolous.. it's all generic garbage. Every now and then, yeah, a rightful, talented rap artist will get their shine, but it's rare.

A lot of those names you mentioned probably only did gold at best. The only names on that list with platinum sales are probably Puffy, Mase, 50 and Ja. I hate 50. Mase only had one high selling album (I think), and hey, I thought it was allright.

I don't really know how Puffy fits in that list. He did a lot for hip-hop, and brought about a lot of good artists and tracks.

Ja Rule is either hit or miss with a lot of fans. I don't think his shit is bad at all. Rule 3:36 was a great album with many good tracks. Six Feet Underground, Put It On Me, and One of Us were all well above average to me.

Stringer Bell
July 17th, 2005, 7:22 PM
Puffy and Mase were majory players in ushering in the downfall of mainstream hip-hop, my friend. The only good things Puffy ever did was put on Mary J and Biggie, but they're so F'n talented they would've shined anywhere.

Before around the time Puffy came along, great rappers were still moving units. These days, De La Soul and Nas hardly sell because people are too busy buying bullshit (like The Massacre and The Documentary).

Anyway.. those artists are very popular among the mainstream rap crowd. That's the kinda BS that dominates popular rap radio. Maybe Cam'ron would've been a better example than Juelz, but he's a a little more talented so I left him off. For the record, I'm pretty sure Mike Jones, Fabolous, and J-Kwon all went platinum. Bandit, I love you :)

Quiet.. you serious? Ghost is on that original tip. What parts of that rap don't you understand? How many rappers you know would bust out some shit like "Supercalifragalisticexpialidocious"? He's a God among men ;)

Ghost's shit often takes some thought to dissect, but so does a lot of Wu material. Yeah, he's probably got the most bizzarre slang out of all of them, but rarely is he nonsensical.

BM's too busy with his checklist of "Things People Say Make Good Hip-Hop" to notice if he actually enjoys songs.

That's what I'm thinking....

I'm all for a song with intricate lyrics and heart and soul put into it, but fuck, sometimes you just have to say "to hell with it" and enjoy it. You know, I'm not too certain that you AREN'T actually using some kind of checklist, Buck, with the way you slam nearly every artist mentioned on these boards.

Ghostface has a few nice beats and some good lyrics, but some of his shit is just mediocre or average and sounds like it belongs on an underground mixtape instead of an actual album. Not to mention, some of the shit he's talking about is so out there. I like hearing the words and understanding them, not deciphering what type of code he's talking in. Nothing wrong with enjoying him, but you come off as a fool when bashing tons of artists and riding the nuts of one merely okay rapper. Ghostface Killah is certainly better than several artists out there, but he's not putting out material that puts everyone else's work to shame.

Basically, your taste in hip-hop isn't the measuring stick for what is good taste, and you need to realize that.

Other than that, no hard feelings.

Stringer Bell
July 18th, 2005, 1:24 PM
Riding the nuts of one merely okay rapper? I like a hell of a lot of rappers, just not the commercial bullshit you're on. Don't you get tired of hearing the same shit on every song?

"One merely okay rapper" :dead: You need to go listen to any and all Wu-Tang material released between 94 and 96.

The fact that you think Ghostface is mediocre sums it all up, basically... whether I was a big fan of his or not.

There's your problem.

Your opinion means about as much you think mine does. You can criticize my tastes all you want, doesn't make yours better.

Actually, I gained a lot of respect for Ja Rule. Many people thought his career was over after his feud with Eminem and Co., and his Blood In My Eye album was shit. Then he drops R.U.L.E., and many would deem it a comeback.

Say what you want, Ja Rule is more respected in the rap community than you may like to think. Same can be said for many other commercial artists you're dogging.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Ghostface, but I promise you, put his stuff against the likes of Ja, Eminem, Game, even 50 Cent, and I promise you most people in the hood won't choose Ghostface.

I'm half-black (not saying that means anything), but I know plenty of black folks and rap-loving ghetto folk, and they're not bumping Ghostface or half of the other underground artists on these pages. You may find a rare person out there big on the mixtapes and underground stuff, but go to the hood with a bag full of cd's: Ja Rule, Game, Jay-Z, 50, R. And that's bullshit. Believe me if you want, don't if you don't want to. I sell tapes at work. Nobody's asking for mixtapes. The only place anyone where I live buys mixtapes is if they take a trip to a big city and buy them on the sidewalk. If they go to a little "g-shop" where they sell weaves, cheap-ass jerseys and cd's, they'll buy bootlegged copies of ACTUAL albums (usually by commercial artists) for 2 or 3 dollars.

You're laughing to try to act like I know all of fuck what I'm talking about, but you come off the fool. I know perfectly well what I'm talking about. Ghostface is allright, but he ain't pushing no fucking albums, which is what I was trying to say as nicely as possible. Nobody's buying his shit.

I'm 18, so that means I haven't been listening to rap longer than you? I've been listening for over 10 years.. my friends older brother put me on to Nas, Dre, and what not.. by the time It Was Written and All Eyez On Me dropped in '96, I was more than hooked in, listening to everything I could. I've studied the shit thoroughly since, and I know the history pretty damn well. Hell, you hadn't even heard Ghostface until I recommended him to you.. that says it all. Arguably the greatest member of THE most groundbreaking rap group of the 90's.

By the way, the "my opinion > yours" comment was in jest, if we haven't already established that. But you sure are doing a good job of making it look factual :(

You might've been listening to rap for longer than me, but it sure doesn't show. 1994 is widely recognized as the greatest year ever for hip-hop, but I'm sure you can't name me five albums that dropped that year without Googling it up. Like I said, go listen to your Cash Money..

Again, you're confused.

People don't sit there and memorize all that shit. We enjoy music. If you like studying it and memorizing dates, good for you, there's nothing wrong with it. But it doesn't make you more knowledgeable or make your taste in the genre more refined. Just means you know albums that were dropped in 94........

I'm through with you. Obviously, you have a lot of maturing to do. Shame, really, because while you're trying to prove how great your taste in music is, you'll probably miss out on a lot of great songs and artists.

Memorizing dates? Not exactly man. Mostly all hip-hop heads refer to '94 as the golden year.

How am I confused? Really. Notice how you only handle portions of my posts?

The true shame, my friend, is that you only listen to the hip-hop that's fed to you on 106 & Park and seem to have little to no knowledge of rap history. It's cool though. Glad you're "through with me" though, you really showed me ;)

I mean I've already said.. if I come off like a dick, sorry. Yeah, I probably have maturing to do, I can admit that. My point is I've been listening to rap for a long time, know a hell of a lot about it, and surely think my opinion counts for something. I can't say the same about any other kind of music, as much as I like listening to rock and other genres.

I can admit the fact that I act like my opinion's the right one a lot, I need to get over myself in that manner. But fuck.. Lil Wayne and Ja Rule? Even most music critics shit on them. I've never heard many people, no matter what 'class' of hip-hop fan they are, rate some rappers like that over ANYONE in Wu. And Tap acting like if something sells well then it must be quality is absurd, can you honestly disagree with that? Really, with shit like that and saying the fact that I'm 18 has anything to do with how much I know about (or how long I've been listening to) rap.. he comes off as just as ignorant in my mind.

I don't try to be a dick.. but I obviously come off as one. I'll try to work on that.

Tom Bombadil
July 19th, 2005, 7:23 AM
I agree with what your saying about Ja and lill wayne, and all about Wu.

But your opinion is just that your opinion it's not better than anybody else's, you could have been listening to hip hop for 10 years and someone could have been listening to it for 5 years...doesn't mean your opinion is more valid than theirs.

They could have been researching hip hop in depth for them five years, while your thinking i've been listening to hip hop for 10 years, and not knowing shit other than that, But the other will probably have more knowledge because he's reasearched hip hop.

I don't think it's really clear what i'm saying but i think you get the picture. Basically your opinion doesn't really mean shit, as does my opinion.

Stringer Bell

Tap just doesn't seem to be nearly as knowledged as he acts, that's all. I'm not claiming to be the most cultured guy in hip-hop around these parts or anything. Like I said, sorry if I come off like a dick, I just take my opinion seriously and think I have every right to. That doesn't mean I think others around here don't know their shit more than me, even if that's the way I make it sound. But Tap himself claims to be more of an R&B guy.. so I don't know why he insists on arguing. And on the topic of being such a big R&B fan, I found this old gem somewhat amusing.

I mean, I couldn't tell you a song by the Isley Brothers until Contagious came out.

Raekwon and Ghost Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2
MF Doom and Danger Mouse DangerDoom

Game is overhyped if you ask me :dunno: Yeah, "Dreams' is a tight song, and his CD has some amazing production, but he's just not as great of an MC as everyone makes him out to be. A lot of rappers could come off that nice with a whole CD of beats from guys like Dr. Dre, Scott Storch, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Havoc, Hi-Tek and others. He's not horrible by any means, but "Dreams" is probably the best song on the CD. He relies on name-dropping other people way too often. Beatwise, it's one of the best mainstream efforts this year, no doubt about that.. I just wish all of that production could've been given to a more talented MC, like Rakim before his fallout with the label.

A lot of your punchlines, Jank's punchlines, Krispy's punchlines, Seanny's punchlines, Simon's punchlines, Tapout's punchlines, my punchlines....are also pretty corny if you ask me.

I'm not on his nuts, but the title track to The Documentary is definitely on a couple of my mixes. And I also like the track Timbaland did for him.

300 bars was alright. Wasn't worth more than one listen though.

Stringer Bell
July 23rd, 2005, 1:12 AM
Exactly, "300 Bars" isn't anything to write home about at all.

The beats made a lot of the tracks.. I dug the Just Blaze tracks a lot, I just think such a great selection of beats could've been saved for a more talented MC. Dre did strike gold commercially though, so I guess that's all that really matters.

None of them are MCs...if he had said 50, Game, Luda, Jay are rappers but Rakim, KRS-1, Talib kweli, Mos Def are real MCs it would of been on point.

Luda, though he has turned commercial, is still on point when it comes to a battle, remember what he did to T.I, Bill O Reily, etc. No one wants a piece of him.

God, I know it's old, but Nas really killed shit with Street's Disciple. I don't think there's been a better mainstream release since. When you can listen to that shit almost a year later and it's still relevent and mostly fresh as fuck, you know it's a classic album. Not Illmatic, but as close as he's come yet. "Nazareth Savage" is just fucking hard, how most rappers wish they could come off on tracks... and songs like "War" just vibe on some real true talk (unlike most other rappers out who claim they spit "real talk" and that nonsense). With only one truly poor song ("No One Else In The Room"), it's one of the few double-albums in rap (or any genre for that matter) that is almost all quality, with minimal filler. Hats off to Nas for saying fuck the radio/MTV and coming with a dope ass album that still bangs just as hard eight months later

Well, he paid The Neptunes 2 million for a beat. That Busta Rhymes, P.Diddy, and Joe Budden were all bidding for and said it was an instant classic.

DaRocTric
July 25th, 2005, 6:10 PM
Neptunes made a beat. Busta rhymes, P.Diddy, and Joe Budden along with nas all wanted it. They all said it is an 'instant classic'. A bidding war began. Joe Budden posted 500,000. Busta put up 1.2 million. Diddy put up 1.6 million. *and Nas but up 2.01 million for the one beat and got it, which will be on his new cd.* The stars arent confirmed but Busta Rhymes and Joe Budden said Nas got the beat. While P.Diddy has said Nas getting the beat isnt done yet.

Stringer Bell

Saigon: Game. I think Game is a lost soul, man. I just don’t think he has found his way yet. I think growing up in Compton, idolizing gang members – he’s not really a hardcore gang banger like he makes it seem like, wearing a bandana around your neck, because there are pictures of him on the "Change Of Heart" show with a button down shirt on, as a grown man. I ain’t never seen a hardcore Monster Cody-type gang member, which he tries to portray, that wears button-down shirts on TV game shows. Its like he’s so caught up into the marketing image of it, he is starting to believe his own hype, almost. I believe it could be to the point where he might be like ready to die just to prove a point like, ‘I’m willing to die for this shit.’ I’ve met dudes like that. I think he’s still finding himself.

I think he’s smart. Game is a brainiac! This is what people don’t know about Game. He’s a brainy dude. He’s a smart dude. He is by no means a dummy, no. He might not make the smartest decisions all of the time, but he’s a thinker. He’s a smart cat. And that’s why I think for him to be coming out and glorifying the Blood thing to the point that he glorifies it, when he has a dead family member, and dead friends who die from it – I think he is like a male Lil’ Kim. He hasn’t found himself yet. He’s still confused. He is still in a growing process. So dudes like that – I can’t really knock him. He’s not conscious. He hasn’t really been where I have been. Put Game in prison for eight years and send Game home and he will be a totally different guy."

Saigon needs to shut the fuck up. He is talking too much shit.
First Jada, Fat Joe, Cassidy, 50 Cent, Jay, Nas, Half of the Rap Game and now The game. Nobody cares Saigon. Stick to rapping.

hot shit.

didn't like him at first when i heard he was in g unit because the other 2 members of g unit are shite and the first time i heard game rap he didn't sound anything worth buying a whole cd of. but my opinions changed now. i like this cd almost as much as get rich.

i know it's gangsta rap, and not real hiphop or whatever. it's not deltron, or Common. i've got hundreds of CD's, got all that stuff too. but i love almost all varieties of hiphop. but every now and then especially in the summer i just want to listen gangsta rap from whatever coast that may be. mobb deep, aftermath, death row, three 6 mafia etc. i'm black and from a tough northern city, i want some fuckin' gangsta rap... know what am sayin? :headbang:

i especially like 'Special' featuring nate dogg, and the tracks 'Runnin', 'Dreams' and 'Hate it or Love it' are just fucking monsters.

as soon as i flipped through the booklet and saw that runnin was produced by Hi-Tek i knew it would be immense. the beat is so sinister and smooth. sounds like something Eazy E or Bone Thugs would have made back in the mid nineties. Good lyrics too.

I agree that lyrically that verse isn't anything special but 50's flow is what makes it great. He uses the beat perfectly and his voice sounds perfect over it. That's basically how I sum up 50's whole career, particularly under Aftermath. He gets good beats and sounds good on them, though lacking any real lyrical talent. Hate it or love it (pun intended), he has used that talent to become the most successful rapper today.

DANGER MOUSE
& MF DOOM Collaborate!

http://www.dangerdoom.com/images/background.jpg

DANGERDOOM:
The Mouse and the Mask
Special guests include
Ghostface Killah, Cee-Lo & Talib Kweli

Adult Swim Inspired Album, Set to Debut in October 2005 on Epitaph Records

Two of this generation's most respected hip-hop artists, Danger Mouse and MF DOOM, have come together to produce DANGERDOOM: The Mouse and the Mask, an album inspired by Adult Swim, Cartoon Network's popular late-night animation network. The album, set to debut in October 2005, will be released on Epitaph Records, in association with Adult Swim. The album will contain character voices and skits from Adult Swim's most popular original shows, including Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021 and Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law.

Danger Mouse is recognized as one of music's most innovative artists and producers. Danger Mouse's The Grey Album, an ingenious re-production of Jay-Z's Black Album with the Beatles' White Album, was named the Album-of-the-Year in 2004 by Entertainment Weekly and catapulted him into the international spotlight. Danger Mouse recently produced Gorillaz Demon Days album, which has sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide in it's initial first weeks of release. His next project is Gnarls Barkley, a collaboration with music's flamboyant, one-of-a-kind force of nature, Cee-Lo.

After a five-year hiatus, that ended in 1998, a former member of KMD emerged as MF DOOM, a persona inspired by the comic supervillain Dr. Doom, and released the critically praised albums Operation: Doomsday and Mmm...Food. DOOM also released one of 2004's most acclaimed albums, Madvillain (featured in Spin, Rolling Stone, Vibe, The New Yorker, etc), under the same name and Venomous Villain under the name Victor Vaughn. He has been involved in a number of collaborations with the industry's finest and has a project with Ghostface Killah (Wu-Tang Clan) in the works.
