The first Big L track I ever heard was '98 Freestyle and I didn't know if it really was a freestyle such was the greatness....

Favourite track for me has to be MVP, just perfect lyricism. The Premo remix is even nicer.
Favourite verse is his first off All Black

Have you guys heard Harlem's Finest: A Freestyle History?? It blew my mind. Definetly my favorite Big L album to listen to, even though its not really an album. And for the record, his "freestyles" are not really freestyles. It just means he did them live (usually on the radio) and in one take. Also, they weren't verses from any of his songs, just shit he wrote down.
"What I resite be taking hours to write/So if you bite just tell your man what kind of flowers you like"

I guess its a matter of preference, But I really liked it. I also got the prereleased copy and I think the production is superb.
If anything, everyone must listen to the track PIGGY BANK. I give 50 cent 2 years before someone kills him.

The production is superb. Piggy Bank was one of the only tracks I liked though along with Toy Soldier. He tells Fat Joe: " That Fat Ass N*gga thought Lean Back was in the club/ My shit sold 11 mill, his shit was a dud. " Right now Fiddy is untouchable but a beef with LOX/D-Block could mess him up. Even though, I feel the best lyricist in G-Unit is Tony Yayo.
Anyway, Anyone hearing Dre wants to sign Killa Cam. Since Cam dont got a deal no more, since he left Roc.

The Wu Tang Manual is awesome. A lot of interesting information about how Wu formed, and what Wu-Tang actually means to them. The break down of kung fu, Gods & Earths and Supreme Mathematics makes it a lot easier to decipher and understand the rhymes. The explanation of the technology he used makes 36 Chambers seem even more awesome.

50 cent may have lost his mind.
In his new album, scheduled for release march 3, he disses Nas, Jadakiss, and FatJoe. A response from FatJoe was already released and shit is about to escalate as Jadakiss has already mentioned that he has a retilation record in the works. Why on earth would he diss Nas, a rap legend, and Jadakiss who has more street cred then 50 ?
Is this a coincidence? 50 cent starting new beef around the time of his new record being released?
LoL, its funny though Fat Joe dissed 50 cent saying No one could be in that great of shape with out steroids. Yes, Fat Joe it is possible. Especially if you put down that big mac.

Coincidence has nothing to do with it, since the new beef is on the album.

On friday morning here in New York during the Kay Slay show, out of nowhere 50 Cent calls up the show and started blasting Fat Joe, couple seconds after that joe calls in and start blasting 50
50 basically said that if he ever see Joe in the streets he'll punch him in the face
Joe then when on to say that 50 is on steroids, and that he goes nowhere without punk ass security.

Well why didnt 50 cent come out and say he had a problem with Nas, fat joe, or jadakiss months ago? All of sudden, ( yes I know of the track piggy bank, which is my point) he wants to call those guys out during this record? Its all a ploy to sell more records I believe. Its working well too.
Edit: Oh and a little sidenote, 50 cent dissed the song lean back yet does he remember that Eminem himself was on the remix track with fatjoe?

His beef with Fat Joe, Jada, and R. Kelly come fromn their calaborations with Ja Rule..
His beef with Nas comes for Nas opening talking shit about how Fitty is pop and not "real" New York..
Truthfully, they can all eat a dick (minus Nas cause he's the man)..
Seanny One Ball
February 28th, 2005, 12:06 PM
50 Cent...fuck sake, the man can barely rap let alone settle a beef with Jada or Nas.
I like how someone said Jada has more street cred than 50 though, guy takes 9 shells and people will never be happy as long as he's rapping about clubs and magic sticks.
It's tragic that people can even get excited about shit like this, it's not a battle it's just a fake beef. 50 might be all hyped up but what's he really gonna do?
This isn't going to result in anything other than wasted headlines and a couple of really bad records.
Simon
February 28th, 2005, 12:21 PM
If Nas gets involved, then it'll be worthwhile. But he won't, because he's a lazy fucker. Same with Jada. So we'll have two no-flows like 50 and Fat Joe bringing out shitty diss tracks, plus inevitably Banks Buck, Game, Prospect, Armageddon and maybe even Tony Sunshine :heart::heart: trying to get involved like little fucknuggets.

Get Rich or Die Tryin better than God's Son and Streets Disciple???? If you don't like Nas at all then just say so, but those two albums were, in my opinion, his best work since It Was Written (or Illmatic for all you It Was Written bashers). Nothing 50 Cent has ever done comes close to those two albums lyrically. I did like Get Rich but 50 is already played out after 2 years on top. Without Dre's production, he wouldn't even be listenable anymore. His new album is gonna suck, and I pray to god that Fat Joe, Jada and Nas put him in his place and expose him as a poor rapper who has a good producer.

Haha, and the drama continues.
50 cent dropped Game from G-unit claiming Game is "disloyal" because Game said he would not be involved in any beefs that 50 cent is starting from his new record Piggy Bank. Interesting read at Mtvnews.com about this whole thing if anyone interested.
If Nas took 50 seriously, we could have a good battle on our hands. But like somoene pointed out, Nas is to lazy and probably more worried about kelis' milkshake.

What I am wondering is how dr. dre feels about all this childish bullshit in his own camp? He should drop detox and diss everyone including 50, game, and all of gunit. I like 50, dont get me wrong, but this is absurd shit. He is trying to hype up his album way to much. His new album is good however and I recommend it over Nas Street Disciple which in my opinion was absolute trash. I guess its preference. Today, during an interview on (local) 94 HJY, 50 Cent was conducting an interview, and began to badmouth......Dr Dre. Basically the jist of it was that 50 didn't like the direction Dre was going in; it was the wrong way to go. 50 also expressed his interest in getting out of Aftermath records and starting his own new label, not under Dre or anyone else.
Something tells me we are seeing the beginning of the end of 50 Cent.

Nobody defends Nas more than I, but if you want to say Jay-Z, 2Pac, Bone Thugz, BIG, Big L, or just about any credible rapper is better than that is certainly a fine opinion to have. However, nobody in their right mind should think that 50 Cent is anywhere close to being one of the greatest rappers ever. I also think that if he were shot for all the bullshit he has been talking that would be the worst thing that ever happened to those that dont buy into the G-Unit/50 cent bullshit. We dont need another rap martyr. For how much I love 2pac, just because he was shot everybody and their mom kisses his ass, because he died. Imagine how horrible that would be if 50 was shot.
I guess really I just look at it like this. Anyway you look at it their is no better definition of Pop Rap than 50 Cent. Its got great production, but no substance.

Amen to that.
I like 50. I know his music isnt this most enlightening in hip hop and often times lacks substance. However, I still find it entertaining and enjoyable. 50 himself admits that he is simply " a good song writer" and claims he isnt even the best rapper in his own group of g-unit. ( he states that lloyd banks is, which I disagree with but this is besides the point). 50 knows what sells and he is learning the rap game quiet well. You have to give him credit for that whether you like him or not. Frankly though, with all the bullshit from the last week and all the animosity that 50 has created, I have lost feelings towards. He simply is trying to hard to stir up friction so he can push his record. He needs to simply shut the fuck up, and let people listen to his record. It actually is good, ( yes, especially production wise). 50 and Em are actually similar. Eminem in my honest opinion, is the most talented mc in the market today. Thats right, thats what I believe. However, he has become this pop "i love my daughter" shithead who needs to take his head out of his ass and realize the skills he has and re-utilize them. The man has imense rapping ability. Go back and listen to SSLP or even MMLP. Even earlier mixtapes and unreleased shit from him them. He had a hunger, a desire to spit ryhmes that was phenomenal. But now he has deteroriated into a soft poser. Still, I like em too. Even though his latest cd was garbage. I am rambling, but my point is that often times a rapper loses his edge when he loses his hunger. Em had his hunger when he was coming up. He was intense. 50 had it too, mainly before Get rich or die tryin. After words, its all beeen a well produced parade of songs for both em and 50. No more substance. The death of substance has emerged.

- depends on what style of rap you prefer. Freestyle, beat based, lyric based, sound based.....East Coast, West Coast, Southern rap......it goes on. Your best bet would prolly be to start out with mixtapes to see who's style you prefer.
- 50 right now "has" a beef with Nas, Jada and Fat Joe. He used to have one with JA Rule, but 50 (along with others) murdered R.U.L.E
- Also, speaking of Nas, he was in a fued with Jay-Z, but Nas pretty much killed Z and all of Roc-A-Fella records in one song.

Although his career began in 1990 as one half of rap group, The Art Of Origin, who signed to an early Def Jam and released two 12 inch singles, New Jersey lyricist Chino XL rose to critical acclaim in 1996 with his debut release, Here to Save You All. He has since had plenty of underground success with his follow up album, 2001’s I Told You So, as well as various guest appearances and spots on DJ Sway and Tech's morning radio show, The Wakeup Show.
Chino XL sat down with StreetHop.com to discuss his career and future releases, as well as the prospect of a mainstream album.
Can you tell us about your upcoming album, Poison Pen?
Poison Pen floats around the concept of a kid that writes things and it happens. There’s a lot of material on there talking about trying to escape different childhood things that could stop you from getting where you need to go. And of course there’s a lot of bangers on there, all kinds of lyrics, metaphors, similes.
Is the childhood aspect autobiographical or just something you strongly believe in?
A little bit of both; I believe in the whole Engram philosophy, that there’s things moving around you that you just don’t notice. Like you may have an aversion to something as small as when it rains it freaks you out, because you may have some sort of trauma that happened to you when you were a child, and now you cant function when it rains. So to me its kind of working through all of that, stuff that I’ve been through, or things that I know that people have been through to come full circle, and keep it moving; be able to identify when something is dragging you down and just work through it.
A lot of fans don’t realize that you are a member of Mensa, what made you join such an organization and what do you think you can give to it, and get from it?
I got involved because my SHC was so high, I didn’t even know what it was. From where I’m from, I thought that I would go to one of the meetings. I was the only one of my type there, so when they would do a discussion about something like a part of history or whatever it was, I always thought that I was speaking for people like me. So when I was in a room with a 100 people that are supposed to be like the top 99.9 intellectual percentile of the world or whatever, that they know when they saw someone walk with a kind of a bop or might be this kind of person, it doesn’t mean that you’re not dealing with a person that has complexity and intellect and all of that, their just from a different place.
Did you ever face any sort of discrimination from those types of people?
Oh yeah, oh yeah. But you know its funny; it works for me. Because somebody goes into a situation with you and they think you’re going to be one way, and they find you’re a complete other way. Which is an insult into itself; like when somebody says, “You know you’re very articulate,” and you say “What am I supposed to be dumb? Why am I supposed to be dumb?” It’s that kind of round-about thing. Peoples guards get dropped a lot quicker once they work out they’re dealing with a person that’s just like them on certain levels.
Artists that are regarded as the top lyricists in the underground have a really hard time breaking out into commercial success, is this something that worries you or something you think about?
Well actually the situation that I’m in now, and this has nothing to do with Poison Pen, I’m actually making your quintessential commercial release. I’m working on an album that will be out in the Fall of next year, on a major label, big producers the whole shebang. And what I’ve realized is it really is two different things. They’re almost two different forms of music even thought they are the same art form. Coming from the MC realm, it’s all about the verses, and then the commercial aspect is all about the hooks; I mean how different could it be? One is about a song that will stand the test of time. The other is about being disposable music that you can get rid of each season and just make a new one, people can get rid of the artists old album, because they don’t really tell you what they think or what they’ve been through and its just about that moment. So its really really different and it takes an honest person to say, “you know what Im doing caters to a certain market, and if I want that other market to gravitate towards me, I’m going to have to take two steps towards them.” There’s really no other way around it, I mean anything else is going to be like a one hit success. You have to cater to what they are doing in a sense, they have to at least be able to catch the smell.
Which process do you prefer, “the verses” or “the hooks?” Do you have to force yourself to be commercial?
Fortunately, there’s a lot of, for lack of a better term, underground MCs or purists that say “I could do that,” or “that’s easy to do,” and all of that. It really is a different part of the brain. Because if you hear what some purist’s idea of a commercial song is, it sounds like a train wreck. It doesn’t have the right structure, the lyrics aren’t right, it could be too over their head and doesn’t stick to the theme. But for me as a lyricist, I can write just about anything, I mean BB King could call me to write a blues record and I could do it. My problem with it to tell you the truth, was which direction thematically to go in. How do I fit into this picture? How do I fit the honesty of my life into this? So for me finding the truth in it was the hardest thing, but once you find it you’re just riding that wave.

agree about m&m's
but 50's is just as shit,
IMO Em's Marshal Mathers album was him at his best, its slowly gone down from that, but "cleaning out my closet" was probably the best song he's ever come out with thus far.
i like 50's new album better then his last one.

Finally heard Piggy Bank.
I don't care if 50 considers it "warning shots" or whatever he likes to call it, Piggy Bank is weak. He called Jadakiss "loco." OMG. Yeah, warning shots, right. I'm sorry but I think that's the best 50's got.
Jadakiss already killed him on Checkmate. Leave it be 50. Don't embarass yourself.

What one song was that?

Anyone know the UK release date for canibus new album? can't wait for it.
His "new" album Mind Control will be released in the States on June 21st, which will actually be the old album never released on Gladiator Records.
And....
Babygrande Records is pleased to announce that it has reunited with Canibus and Mic Club Music to release Canibus' next album entitled, Hip-Hop for Sale, which was produced entirely by Virginia's own super-producer Nottz.
'Canibus is one of the greatest MC's in hip-hop history and he'll always have a home at Babygrande. It is an honor to be able to make another record with him. I've been a fan of Nottz production since we worked together on the Training Day Soundtrack back when I was A&R at Priority. Canibus and Nottz have made an incredible record together,' says Babygrande CEO Chuck Wilson.
Hip-Hop for Sale will hit the streets on May 10th. Stay tuned to www.canibus.ws (coming soon) for more info.
Also on May 10th, Babygrande will release All Fates Have Changed, the debut album from Jus Allah. Some time this week, Babygrande and WBFS Pirate Radio will premiere Jus Allah's first single and an exclusive interview right here at www.babygrande.com
He may also have another album released in 2005 under Shaq's Deja34 label.

Critics and fans are so taken with his particular talent, gushing about his brilliance, looking up to him as a groundbreaker, someone who is going to change hip hop and maybe the world. When all he wants to do is play video games, write lyrics, and smoke cigarettes."

exactly i really like some of the nerd hiphop but most of it sounds awful to me. the best album of that kind is deltron 3030 imo, i always listen to that. good beats and amazing lyrics, i heard that del is ice cube's brother but i'm not sure if that's just my mate making it up. would explain alot though.
i'm not sure what i'm into at the moment really, none of the newer stuff. in the last year i've probably only bought about 20 cds. i've got just about everything i want. been into three-6-mafia over the summer and got into epmd and slick rick and big daddy kane. most times i end a session by throwing 2pac on or some death row or wu tang. some of the more regular stuff.
i've realised 100% i'm not a big fan of white rap. i gave it a chance for years but just think white rap is shit with the exception of eminem who is good for what he is (like 50 cent). the beastie boys are terrible and only popular because the rock magazines say they are good. i just wish they'd fuck off and die. i would rather listen to german traditional flute playing than the beatie boys

I bought it last month, and I thought it was OK. The tracks produced by Chops just suck. Putting ODB on a 7 minute track with lames like Jae Millz and Cardan wasn't a good idea. There are also a couple of tracks where ODB only does the hook (Caked Up) while some no-name does all the rest. I also hate the Clinton Sparks remix of Pop Shots. Also, no RZA/4th Disciple/True Master/Mathematics.
However, the remaining 12 tracks are pretty good. Hearing Ol' Dirty and Premo is just awesome. ODB sounds better than ever on this one. Hearing Cappadonna make an apperance on a Wu album (first time since The W?) wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, though Ghostface should have done more than just the hook.
Overall, ODB does a great job, but his producers let him down.

But I would not doubt that the Kno/Tonedeff collab album is even better though. The greatness of Kno producing a whole album for him is hard to fathom. QN5 has the best group of producers of any hip hop label, it's not even close.

It'd be great if he had songs with more content, but I suppose it doesnt really matter cuz Redman is more about lyricism than being very serious. It's time for another round of PR vs. Truth... in today's edition: Why is Benzino Leaving The Source?
Blaming irreconcilable differences with both The Source magazine and its investor, Black Enterprise, co-founder Raymond "Benzino" Scott stepped down as chief brand manager on Friday (April 8).
"I want to step down from the magazine and sell my stock effective immediately," he said in a statement.
Claiming he's also tired of court battles with his enemy Eminem (see "Eminem 'Never Wanted To Squash The Beef,' Benzino Says; Fires Back In New Video"), Benzino said the magazine is too stiff for his taste.
"I've been consumed too much with the whole conflict thing ... the Eminem suit, and I am sick of it," Benzino said (see "Eminem's Lawsuit Against The Source Going To Trial"). "I don't want to take away from what The Source has built up, but I got issues with The Source and magazines like that. Everyone is too politically correct. They're not thinking about the little guy who can't afford to pay for high-priced ads. It's like a monopoly."
The feelings were apparently mutual as, according to a spokesperson for The Source, Black Enterprise disliked Scott's practices.
"Our other partner, Black Enterprise, is another reason why I've decided to leave," Benzino said. "I don't like how they perceive me. There are too many things that I don't agree with, so I am moving on."
Though his tenure at The Source has been rocky, Scott said he's looking forward to new publishing opportunities.
"I plan on creating another magazine that has my voice, which represents the little guy. It's because of the manipulation of SoundScan and radio that hip-hop is losing its edge. I want to come out with a magazine that will reflect that. I want to start from the ground up and speak for the artists," he said.
So, it's gotten too politically correct and you want to start anew to represent the little guy... very, very admirable... but just for the heck of it, let's see what else is going on in the news...
NEW YORK – April 11, 2005 – Earlier today, two of the highest-ranking former female executives of The Source magazine, the self-proclaimed “Bible of Hip Hop,” filed charges of discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission accusing co-owners David Mays, the Chief Executive Officer, and Raymond “Benzino” Scott, the Chief Brand Executive, of committing gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and unlawful retaliation against women at the Company.
The charges were filed by Kimberly Osorio, who was the first female Editor-in-Chief of The Source, and Michelle Joyce, who was the Vice President of Marketing. According to the charges, female employees were consistently discriminated against on the basis of their gender in favor of male employees, particularly with respect to hiring, promotions, compensation and benefits, working hours and discipline.
The charges also allege that:
Raymond “Benzino” Scott has taken virtually complete control over The Source from David Mays, and has placed many of his male associates from Boston on the payroll who performed no meaningful work and/or did not adhere to the same rules, policies and procedures that all female employees were required to follow.
Scott and Mays have fired or forced out of the Company without cause many competent, dedicated, and hardworking female employees and replaced them with men.
David Mays yelled and cursed at female executives at The Source, whereas he would not treat or talk to comparable male employees in such a manner.
Scott and Mays allowed another male employee to openly utter profanities at Ms. Osorio, degrade her, and threaten her with physical violence without being punished for his actions.
Women at The Source were repeatedly subjected to degrading acts of sexual harassment.
The sexual harassment was so severe and pervasive that the former Managing Editor at The Source would often hide in her office and avoid walking through the corridors out of fear of being sexually harassed.
The Source engaged in a gender-based smear campaign against Hot 97 radio personality and recording artist Angie Martinez.
“After dedicating five years to the Source, I could no longer endure the blatant gender discrimination and harassment so I spoke up. But it only hurt the situation, because I was fired shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, discrimination and/or harassment in the workplace is very common. And now, I must speak out for all women who have been victims of this same type of treatment,” said Ms. Osorio. “I chose to take a stand for women of the Hip Hop generation and for all women who quietly endure such treatment for fear of retaliation and for those women who have suffered in silence and quietly surrendered,” said Ms. Joyce.
“Ms. Osorio and Ms. Joyce have shown extraordinary courage in coming forward, and we will fully vindicate their rights at trial, said Kenneth P. Thompson, their attorney and a former Federal Prosecutor who prosecuted the Abner Louima federal civil rights case.
“All women should be treated fairly and with the utmost respect whether they are in the world of Hip Hop or not and we will prove that in this case,” said Thompson.
According to the charges, both Ms. Osorio and Ms. Joyce complained about the discriminatory treatment against women at The Source, all to no avail. Instead of taking prompt action to end the discrimination, they allege that Messrs. Scott and Mays unlawfully terminated them despite their outstanding work performance. In fact, Ms. Osorio alleges that she was fired shortly after she refused to give in to Scott’s and Mays’ repeated demands that she rescind an email that she sent to Human Resources complaining about the unlawful conduct.
I'll be honest... I've never read The Source, never cared about the various Benzino feuds, and really, still couldn't give a shit about this... I just enjoy story-behind-the-story stuff...

I dont think that anybody would contend that bone is one of the greatest rap groups/artists ever but also I do say that all of us can agree that bone certainly is a classic rap act that will stand the test of time. Only one or two truly great cds, but certainly dozens of memorable singles. For how much bone is above and beyond many modern rap artists, its a shame they were brought down a bit because they were trapped in the "golden age of rap" (93-96) below icon artists such as Nas, 2pac, BIG, Wu Tang Clan,

If you go back to their unknown first album "Faces of Death" you'll see they sounded more like Caribean Chipmonks than the horror-movies style thugs.. This was recorded before they meet Easy E.. Easy E had spent alot of time in Memphis just before "finding" BONE (who until recently were know as The Band Aid Boys).. In Memphis he came across a group with a horrific, hardcore style called SPV (South Park Vets).. This group later became known as Three 6 Mafia..
Pretty much, Easy took the style of underground Memphis, went to Clevland, and gave it to some young, talented MC's..
Nothing against Bone really, cause I can't knock the hustle.. But at the same time, I grew up on Three 6 and have meet them several times.. I felt bad because they only hit mediocre status while some young punks went platinum off their style..
All this is hearsay cause it never went public, minus mentions in songs.. But, I have a demo tape from 1993 by SPV and I have Faces of Death by Bone from around the same time period.. Try to get that and the proof is right there on who had that style first..

^^ Yeah, I agree, but Bone shits on them during the ruthless era. Too bad Bone aren't the same anymore, that new Bizzy/Layzie collabo album is garbage. It's only worth downloading. At least they're getting beats from Dr.Dre and Swizz Beatz for their new group album. Bone is headed in the right direction

I dunno Quiet, I'm feeling "Diamonds are Forever". The beat is nuts, and Kanye's stepped his game up a bit. He's never gonna be a top-notch lyricist though.
I know it's been covered, but Common's album is fantastic. I'll be suprised if anyone tops that this year. In my eyes, the only real contender is Raekwon and Ghostface's "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2".
Any word on Cena's album? Should be leaking pretty soon, shouldn't it?

Kris, nothing against you, but Three Six is not good rap. They have good beats, and some of the underground stuff is interesting, but they're not talented. They've got some of the corniest lyrics in the game, and are really only good for laughs. Lil Wyte especially is a clown.

Funny thing is, I was going to post that. Laughing at someone and saying they shouldn't listen to rap, that's inappropriate. If you're so knowledgeable, by all means make the man look a fool by actually arguing your point and showing him where he's going wrong. I was using sarcasm. Obviously, everyone's gonna like different styles. I still don't see what was inappropriate about my post though, as any hip-hop head would find that dope man/dope train couplet laughable.
There's really no point to argue. Go to ohhla.com or any other site with a large collection of hip-hop lyrics. Compare the lyrics of Three Six to those of more talented artists, like GZA, Talib Kweli, Common, J Live, Nas, Ghostface.. the list goes on. Even a majority of mainstream acts, from well respected ones like Jay-Z to the weaker acts like The Game, have better lyrics than Three Six. They're just not good at writing raps, unless of course you're into simple, corny, "funny" lyrics. I've heard plenty of Three Six, from Mystic Styles to the newest effort, Choice Pt. 2. I don't hate them, but anyone who thinks they have good lyrics would be flat-out amazed by what else is out there.
I'm not gonna argue that I'm a bigger hip-hop head than Suno, cause I could very well be wrong. But he seems to be quite the Three Six fan... :D

They're not going for lyrics though. It would be like trashing Kweli because you can't get down to his stuff in a dance club.
Styles work within genres. To say that any one is more important to, or more indicative of, the genre than another is tempting, but ultimately impossible.

Buck, you're such a f'n hypocritical asshole.. You make broad generalistion about different styles of Hip Hop and think you're special cause you own some Sage Francis and Aesop Rock.. You have no right to judge people's tastes because they differ from yours.. I'm from the South and like alot of Dirty South shit.. I've known David Banner for years and used to watch him rap over folks beatboxing.. Sorry I dig folks rapping about crack and "bussin heads" because that's what I grew up around.. I'm not Kris, but I'd love to get back on topic
ATLiens and Southernplayalistic are phenominal records. If you want to further your Outkast listening, check out their third album, Aquemini. It's damn good, their last flawless work in my opinion.
Mind of Mystikal was released in October of 1995. Personally, he doesn't impress me, so I'll let Kris handle the content side for you.
Personally, Banner's a hell of a producer, but his album's aren't that great. He's not a very good rapper, which detracts from a lot of his songs. But if you want some insane modern southern beats, definitely check out any of Banner's stuff. He's a genuis producer.
I'd say Goodie, Eightball & MJG (for historic purposes at least), UGK, PA (especially earlier stuff than My Life), and Outkast are all better than Banner. But I'd recommend some Banner over Three Six or Mystikal anyday.
If you're really into southern rap, you gotta peep the Geto Boys. Their early albums were especially ground-breaking, and Anti-Rap groups at the time were going crazy trying to get them to tone down the lyrics. Check out the albums We Can't Be Stopped and Grip it On Another Level. Grip It was later re-mixed by famous rap pioneer Rick Rubin, as a self-titled album. That one's quite good too.
Hope that helps.

I guess having pics with other celebs makes someone like Tupac's past all a lie too, right??
Good logic there, chief..
Oh, and it's not really bragging when I am mearly defending myself once you attempted to flame me about the "bussin heads" comment..
You want to see pictures??

The light skinned black dude, throwing up the G.D. sign in the front is Sleepy Willow.. He's a rapper/producer I grew up with and considered a good friend.. About two monthes after that picture was taken, he, on a drinking and coke binge, shot me, after a drunken fist fight..
Again, you should prolly stop making assumptions, cause you're the one coming out looking like an asshole..

Surely people have made it out of the ghetto. Sorry, it's just not believable to me that some dude taking pictures with Paris Hilton has led a rough life. Also, like I said.. if your life was really that tough, would you have to brag about it on the 'net?
I bumped one picture, and you're still bitching about it. I guess I really know how to push your buttons, huh? :)
Don't you see Kanye West dancing with Anna Nicole Smith in a music video? Don't you see some ghetto-ass people audition for American Idol? (hell, some of them make it on the show). I know plenty of hardcore gangsters, although it's not a lifestyle (obviously) that I live, and they would probably jump at a chance to have their pic taken with any celebrity.
Tupac did a movie with Janet Jackson, for fucks sake...

Thank you for this.... I've been waiting for them to put up some samples.
I downloaded "Hustler Remix" with Murs in which John Cena features, and I was impressed.
These, too, are quite impressive.
Thanks bro.
Edit* Oh yeah, Buck..... as for the sarcastic "big Master P fans too, huh?" remark... yea, I am. He single-handedly brought the big-time rap group craze back to the forefront. Once No Limit started dropping albums, you had Cash Money basically repeat the success and many of the songs were even in the same style.
And Master P IS a huge souther talent, whether you would like to admit it or not. He wasn't discovered overnight by Eminem like so many other new "rappers" are today: he built his reputation hard and heavy down there before hitting it big. Like him or not, denying his contributions to hip-hop in the late 90's would be absolutely retarded.

When you look at 1998 and 1999, Master P and the No Limit Soldiers almost had a monopoly on the rap game..... Master P, Mystikal, Kane and Abel, Mr. Servon, C-Murder, Silk The Shocker, Lil' Soldiers (where the lil' soldiers at?), Mercedes, and tons of other affiliates. Even Snoop joined up with the No Limit Soldiers.
Hell, look at the album covers: No Limit started using that iced-out tank, and then how many people did you see use basically exactly the same thing on thier labels? Cash Money used an iced-out cash symbol.
Hell, for Buck to laugh down at Master P.. he had so many cuts...these were ALL popular rap songs:
Crazy About Ya
Black and White
I Always Feel Like
Mr. Ice Cream Man
Call Me When You Need Some
No Limit Soldiers
I Miss My Homies
RIP Kevin
Hoody Hoo
Bout Dat
Bourbans and Lacs
OoohWeee
If
I Don't Want You No More
Tru Homies
And those are only the ones I can think of at the top of my head......

They we huge round here way before that..
"Bout it, Bout it" (I have to mention that in that video P's wearing an Archie Manning jersey  )was like a ghetto anthem in like '95 when TRU-True came out.. Soon to be followed by P's solo shit Ice Cream Man in '96.. By the time Ghetto Dope came out in '97 it was over.. No Limit brought the Dirty South to the world..
The thing about Master P is, he had a plan and executed it to perfection.. Get noticed on the underground enough to get your foot in the door of the "mainsteam".. Then flood the fuck outta the market until people get tired of your shit, all the while making yourself a millionaire.. And it took less than five years.. How can you hate on that?? Went to see Scarface this past Thursday night and it was a blazin show. What else would you expect from Face? If I can remember it went something like:
Came out, thanked the crowd to about a 3 minute pop
Said he was doing a Geto Boys finale tour and that's it but he's is gonna stop here for a date. WOOOO
Mr. Scarface
Look Into My Eyes
Tupac shout-out and dropped "Smile"
Let Me Roll
Mind Playin Tricks
He dissed mutha fuckas who claimed their shit was "chopped & screwed" but it aint cuz DJ Screw is not among the living. RIP Screw  He said they need to say their shit was "slowed down"
Hold Em Down
Never Seen A Man Die
Intrumental of a few jams that the crowd sang along to
It's Going Down Tonight
Fuck Faces
Mary Jane (Blew up the stage)
Jesse James (Blew up the fuckin spot)
Money and the Power (Blew the roof off)
Then he hollered at that bitch fool 50 and dropped "G-Code"
Groupie freaks were pulled onsatge left and right by his homeboys onstage and that's it.
I really wanted to hear "I'm Black" and verse from G.E.T.O. Dude has awesome, chilling stage presence.
My boy Mr. Mike got a shout-out from Face but didn't perform. Opening acts were Partners in Crime who just signed to Rap-A-Lot/UTP, some bitch from Beamont and some local jabronies.
What's really bumpin in Texas right now is that "G-Code" by Geto Boys, Paul Wall is the realest white boy; "Sideways" gets mad play. Mike Jones going national is overkill now. Slim Thugga is king (gonna move 200 plus first week), Chamillionaire, Swisha House alum basically. Weebie bumps, Louisiana cats get mad love. T.I. is real, Bun B. is everyfuckinwhere cuz he is a legend. We don't claim Lil Flip anymore. Dirty South reppin everyone, Luda, Trick Daddy, etc.

With producer Dan "the Automator" Nakamura gone, Albarn, a.k.a. 2D, has paired up with DJ Danger Mouse (responsible for the infamous Grey Album that illegally mixed the Beatles and Jay-Z) to steer the musical ship, while a whole new slew of guests enlivens the proceedings. Albarn has described Demon Days as being darker, but there's a real kooky dance-party vibe coursing through the CD. Despite its somber tone, "Kids with Guns" is lifted by a killer bass line, for instance, while the catchy first single, "Feel Good Inc," is augmented by an appealing contribution from De La Soul. Other noteworthy guests include Roots Manuva and Tricky collaborator Martina Topley-Bird on the dubby "All Alone" and Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder on the bouncy "DARE." And yet it's a 69-year-old actor who gets to deliver the most baffling contribution--just listen to Dennis Hopper's spoken-word narrative on "Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head." Elisabeth
I didn't know Dan the Automator was gone. DJ Danger Mous I wouldn't expect either. But it seems as if two members from De La Soul appear on Feel Good Inc.

Dan says:
Del, Automater, and Kid Koala (ie. DELTRON) came up with the concept for Gorillaz, but Automater is the only one of those three who actually has a hand in everything... Automater would be "in" Gorillaz, as are the musicians like that guy from Blur (and the artist too, I suppose), but not Del or the other rappers
edit: Apparently I can't spell 'Automator' nor was I aware of his leaving, but the point is: appearing on a track doesn't make you a part of the band, no matter what the concept behind it is

DJ Shadow is phenominal. Endtroducing has some of the best sampling I've ever heard..
You should definitely check out Z-Trip.

That was me, posting very poorly through Croc from beyond the ban, in case there was any confusion.
But yeah, it would be like saying Del or Biz or like a billion other people are part of Handsome Boy... it's just Automator and Prince Paul, everyone else is guesting/collaborating... and don't give me the stupid "they live in the drummer" story again...
PS: On a somewhat similar note actually, are Busdriver, Subtitle, and/or Vic Booze working with Th' Corn Gangg full-time, or is it going to be a rotating-based-on-location thing or what? And despite having not heard what it actually sounds like, is it wrong to still wish The Unicorns were together?

They've only been playing shows since March and as far as I know only in L.A., so I guess no one really knows.

A couple intros Canibus did for "Black Kobra" Dewey Cooper. He led Cooper out to the ring this past weekend, even the announcers said it was a hell of an intro.

Canibus is fuckin great, love Black Kobra 2. It's almost like he's gettin harder, love the style.
Black Kobra 1 is cool but not fast enough for me.
Good to see he's rapping well.

Too bad there are those lame IM sounds in the 2nd one, kinda ruins it's mixtape appeal. Hopefully an edited version makes its way out.
And as some of you may know, his "new" album Mind Control is set for release June 21. Unfortunately, at least 9 (and possibly 10) of the 11 tracks on the list CDUniverse has appear to be old. But I am sure there has been major tweaking done in some of the tracks, which has already been apparent with the loop in "33 3's". Hopefully they can put together an entire new beat for Last Laugh. And as of now Kurupt appears to be the only guest on the album, apearing on "Not 4 Play" (Scrolls) and possibly on the hook of "Talk the Talk" if it the same as Talkin' the Talk, but I have heard a lot of heresay that it is an entirely different track. And the fact that it is the song they are making the video for I'd say that might be true.
As for Hip Hop for Sale, no new release date is set. Apparently Babygrande ordered him to make new tracks after TVM was leaked so hopefully Bis didn't burn his bridges with Nottz.
After that, I just hope he does a studio follow-up with Stoupe. That would be bananas....
