Now I don't know what you guys consider "metal" to be, but a lot of the shit you've been talking about recently has made me sick.
That is all.
Lighten up eh?

Britain's Rock Sound magazine is reporting that EVANESCENCE's Ben Moody has walked out in the middle of the band's European tour. The guitarist and co-songwriter, who formed the band as a teenager with singer Amy Lee, flew home without speaking to his bandmates during a day off on their German trek. They were then left to play the rest of their European dates, including the U.K., without him. As yet, it's impossible to say he has left for good but an angry, emotional Amy told the magazine: "You don't do that to your band. You wouldn't do that to your friends or your family. You don't do that to anyone."
Apparently it's not the first time he's walked out. The band have had to cancel a tour in the past and Amy told the crowd at a recent gig at Manchester Apollo. "Ben flew home, but we didn't want to let it cancel the tour again."
 Now the morons will shut up. Another crap band dies.

I've heard it,but I haven't bought it yet. From the listens I've had,it seems like a definite improvement from their last two albums, but not quite a complete return to form IMO.The songwriting lacks a little in parts IMO but I reckon Phil Demmel has made a real difference to the band.
I also plan to pick up the latest Arch Enemy soon as well.

Oh Yeah! I meant to mention them as well, I heard that track 'We Shall Rise' or whatever its called, Bloody Good.
And about Machine Head, theres about two poor tracks on the album, but the majority is great, "Imperium" is clearly trying to re-create "Davidian", and does a damn good job. Left Unfinished reminds me of The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears, Then you have "Bite The Bullet", "Days Turn Blue To Gray", "All Falls Down" and "Vim", all great. But the best track is "Descend The Shades Of Night", it may not be heavy or fast, but its beautiful. It seems they have re done the idea for Burning Red's title track, but this time extremely well. If your not gonna buy the album, at least listen to "Imperium" and "Descend The Shades Of Night"

But looking back, you've moved more and more into metal. :headbang:
But now I've actually come to realise who you are (very slowly I may add; damn me) I can now say YAY.

Here's an update from Blabbermouth anyway-
"FEAR FACTORY have officially signed a new record deal with D3 Entertainment in the U.S. (as first reported here back in July) and Roadrunner Records in Europe. The group's new album, titled "Archetype", is currently being recorded at Rumbo Recorders in Los Angeles with engineer Ken Marshall (SKINNY PUPPY). An April 2004 release is expected.
The complete track listing for "Archetype" is as follows:
01. Slave Labor
02. Cyberwaste
03. Act of God
04. Default Judgement
05. Corporate Cloning
06. Archetype
07. Drones
08. Bite The Hand That Bleeds...
09. Bonescraper
10. Undercurrent
11. Human Shields
12. Ascencion (outro)
13. School (NIRVANA cover) (bonus track)
The following is FEAR FACTORY guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers' update on the recording process, as posted on the web site of Roadrunner Records U.K.:
"Everything is going great! We just finished tracking 14 songs at Rumbo Recorders in LA. This is where GUNS N' ROSES recorded all their albums! The studio had a great vibe. A lot of history in this place! Roy Orbison still wanders thru the hallways!
"I must say this was the smoothest record we have ever recorded. We tracked the whole thing in 28 days! The record is called 'Archetype' and was produced by FF ourselves. We used Ken Marshall (SKINNY PUPPY) to engineer and record the album. Another Canadian!! LOL!
"Currently I'm finishing up programming and keyboards with Rhys Fulber, Steve Tushar and John Bechdel. We will start mixing on the first of December in Vancouver with Ken Marshall. I must say this is a pretty heavy classic FF album and our hardcore fans will be pleased!
"No watered-down songs, no stripped parts...blah blah blah...Just brutal FEAR FACTORY!!!! Raymond has especially pushed the bar in Metal drumming to the next level!!!! The drums on this record make 'Demanufacture' for beginners!!!! LOL....
"I played all the guitars and bass on the album and we will start rehearsing with Byron Stroud (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) on bass guitar in December. He will be our bass player for FF [as first reported here last month—Ed.]. I feel Byron has the perfect mentality for FF and he's a cool motherfucker!!!! And he's from Canada!!!! What's up with all them Canucks!!!!! LOL!
"We will be touring with KORN and STATIC-X in February which we're really excited about!! Both STATIC and KORN are longtime friends and I have nothing but respect for those guys! It's gonna be a great tour...and a great year for FEAR FACTORY!
"We feel this FF is stronger that ever..more hungry than ever....and most important of all.... Burton, Ray and myself have become best friends in the last 2 years! We see and hang out more with each other now than we did in 10 years of touring!!! It feels truly amazing!!!!!
"I played [new material] some for [producer] Ross Robinson and he looked at me saying this is the best work he's heard from FF yet. Rhys is saying similar things......
"It feels good to be back!!!!!"

You are a Black Metal KVLTist. Black metal is one of the most extreme and advanced forms of metal (or music in general), and you're damn proud of the fact that you have the balls and brains to listen to it. As a matter of fact, it may very well be the only thing you listen to - everything else seems to lose its charm (though that's not the case with everyone). The whole concept of concerts doesn't excite you much - the music sounds just as good on CD, after all, and there's too many morons stumbling around at shows. You're just not a people person; other metalheads respct you to a degree but think you're kind of a dick (and often a racist fucker). METALLICA Symphony Conductor Passes Away - Nov. 18, 2003
Oscar-nominated composer, conductor and arranger Michael Kamen, who conducted the San Francisco Orchestra in 1999 as it backed METALLICA on their live "S&M" project, died this morning (Nov. 18) after suffering from multiple sclerosis for several years, according to Billboard.com. He was 55. Further details were not immediately available.
Recorded across two concerts that reworked the band's canon for symphonic arrangement, "S&M" peaked at No. 2 and has sold 2.6 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The Dream Theater album is pretty sweet. The whole album basically revolves around Petrucci's skills which is how it should be. Amazing how you can look at all their albums and each one is completely different from the next.
"Endless Sacrifice" is probably my favorite track at the moment. Starts off a bit lighter and then explodes and rocks out the rest of the way. "Stream of Consciousness" is a great instrumental and throughout the 11 plus minutes of the song you don't get bored at all that there are no vocals.
Solid album in my opinion by Dreamtallica.

Here's some news on the upcoming Refused DVD-
"Burning Heart Records have released some news regarding the new Refused DVD (yes you heard correctly), as well as other things regarding the once, mighty fine band. They went onto say:
"Mark your calendars as we can confirm that the new DVD "REFUSED ARE FUCKING DEAD", including never before seen material and videos etc. will be released in spring 2004 after being slightly delayed! More news is soon to follow.
Sound-geeks and freaks should also check out the bands crucial milestone album "The Shape Of Punk To Come" that now has been re-mixed and re-mastered to be released on DVD Audio format in the beginning of 2004 on Epitaph (Northamerica only). .
This album is also to be released next year as a fine digi-pack version together with remastered versions of the albums "Songs To Fan The Flames Of Discontent" and "The EP Compilation" (with tracklist changes made). Look out for more information and release dates on the website! These albums will be released by Epitaph in Northamerica, and by the bands motherlabel Burning Heart Records elsewhere.
Before we leave you alone with your wet dreams, we also have to tell all game-freaks that Refused is included on the soundtrack for the new "Tony Hawk Underground" game with the song "Summerholidays vs Punkroutine". Other bands included are KISS, Jurassic 5, NOFX, In Flames, The Hellacopters, The Clash and more."

Metallica are facing possible legal action from defunct punk/metal band Extol (not connected in any way with the current Dutch band). The latter claim that ‘Enter Sandman’ borrow heavily from their own ‘Tapping Into The Emotional Void’, which came out in 1989 on the album ‘The Joke’s On You’

11/24/03 - DIMEBAG DARRELL: 'PANTERA Is Officially Over'
Former PANTERA guitarist Dimebag Darrell recently spoke to the U.K.'s Rock
Sound magazine about the current status of the band that is widely
considered to be one of the most influential American metal acts of the
'90s.
When asked point-blank if PANTERA is officially over, Dimebag said, "Oh
yeah, it's been officially over since our lead singer [Philip Anselmo]
started announcing it from stages across the United States." Dimebag went on
to explain that "[Anselmo] threatened it before but when he started
announcing it in the press and from onstage, that was when it became
official. He never had the decency to talk to us about it. Nobody would
return our calls so me and [PANTERA drummer] Vinnie [Paul] just sat at home
not knowing what the fuck was going on."
Despite all the obvious bad blood, Dimebag admited "we're not ashamed of a
fuckin' thing we've done. It was a great ride and we wanted it to last
forever. It didn't but we're back with [our new band] DAMAGEPLAN and we're
ready to kick some muthafuckin' dick!"
DAMAGEPLAN, which features Darrell, Vinnie, singer Patrick Lachman (former
HALFORD/DIESEL MACHINE guitarist) and bassist Bobzilla, will release their
debut album, "New Found Power", on February 10 through Elektra Records. The
group expect to begin playing select shows in January, with a full-scale
North American tour to follow shortly after the album's release.

I love Machine Head, until I get to The Burning Red from then on in. I havn't heard From The Ashes of Empires yet, but I'm sure it's not a return to form. Burn My Eyes is fantastic and the more things change... while different I still really like. Darkthrone Already At Work On New Album:
Norwegian black metallers Darkthrone have set "Sardonic Wrath" as the working title for their next album, tentatively due in early 2004 through Moonfog Productions. According to guitarist / vocalist Nocturno Culto, "two [new] morbid tunes have reached planet earth already. Material that will surprise...now easy, we shall not sell our asses, like so many others. Metallica.
What other bands do you listen to? What scenes? What sub genres?
And everyone knows my opinion of St. Anger, I just expected production to be smooth rather than a produced sound of 'raw-no production', which to me sounds contrived and very lacking.
My mate Rory said it best when he said 'St Anger is a decent 40minute album stuck within 30 minutes of filler.'
Then again Maiden do the same thing except they can get away with it because, well.. they're Iron Maiden and it's less obvious.
And my favourite Metallica album is Kill 'Em All (and not because Dave wrote 6 songs on it :p ) because that HAS a raw sound full of energy. :)

I reckon it's good shit. I noticed on the dvd that Satyr says you can't pin down their influences or anyone who sounds like them. To me, they sound like a Darkthrone brought into the modern world with good production and a little more experimentation. Those riffs have Darkthrone written all over them. And there's nothing wrong with that.
The funniest thing about the dvd is Black Metal fanboy Phil Anselmo. Getting all lovey dovey with Nocturno Culto (darkthrone) and singing 'Frost from Hell' instead of 'Cowboys from Hell' and blabbering 'Satyricon are the new kings of black metal' in the midst of a Pantera gig.

Those albums are alright. But the earlier stuff pre-Gossow beat it hands down in my books. They have a less compromised sound and an overall raw feel to it, more flashy leads too which is a good thing. I have my own way to lead Stratovarius and since being in this band since 84 (almost 20 years) I have had a very clear vision about the musical direction of Strato. To put it short and simple, this is my band.
I decide what Stratovarius sounds like. Stylists might decide how Stratovarius looks like. I don´t give a fuck about that though, I love music and we are not some fucking Backstreet Boys. We eat metal and shit chains.
Before some of you start shouting "dictator", I would like to tell you that we have always shared the income from the band equally. Everyone gets the same from all income. I can tell you many bands when it´s not like this.
I have received death threats, which has forced me to hire 2 bodyguards. They are both former military people with martial arts training. This is sad really, but what can you do?

Man, I've been getting a little more into Swedish death metal recently. First Dismember, Centinex, and now Witchery. Pretty good shit. I have so many CDs that I want to buy, though. Really sucks.
I'm thinking about trying Soulseek though. Anyone ever use this before??
Also, has anyone else heard of the new Century Media compilation? I think it has about 10 CD tracks and 20 mp3s, or something like that. I think I'm going to buy that next, since it's only $4.

MFTB was insane.
Black shirts were plentiful. Handful of scene lovers who dress 'accordingly'...idiots. It's about the music.
For me, Cog stole the show. The one band that wasn't really metal per se.
Other bands that rocked were Infernal Method, Psycroptic, Astriaal, Earth, 'bok, Daysend, Flesh Mechanic and others I saw were mildly interesting in parts.
Bands that particularly didn't strike a power chord were Destroyer 666, Dungeon, Tourettes, Kill For Satan and Shatterwrath.

Gift Cards/ Vouchers suck.
It's like money, except it's worse than money since it limits you to buying in one store.
Therefore you're using good money to purchase something which has a more limited scope but works exactly the same way. Therefore I never give out gift vouchers. Just give money.

I must say I prefer Dead's vocals to Maniacs....Maniac has too much of a rabid Andy Serkis aka Gollum sound to him. Although I think Dead's voice would have been Dead if he didn't shoot himself...it's all guttural throat wrenching and no diaphragm by the sounds of it.
Damn Rock Shop tricked me they had a Final Sale with all their signs out the front. Cunts still took 5 minutes to find the CD's.

IMO Dez has very, very limited talent and seems to latch on to whatever is cool at the time and build his band's sound around that. What I've heard of Devildriver didn't impress me,although it's a hell of a lot better than anything Coal Chamber did anyway. Not that that would be overly difficult.
What I've heard of Probot (including a track with Cronos) sounds pretty impressive actually.Just 'cause Dave Grohl makes radio-friendly rock doesn;t mean that that inner metalhead isn't still lurking there somewhere methinks.
The word is that Nuclear Blast were very, very pleased with the success of the Soilwork tour, and are planning on having some of their higher-selling acts worldwide (In Flames have been mentioned anyway) tour here next year.Yay.

The deal with the Iced Earth album.
First off, I know this album revolves around the Civil War but do we really need to hear the Star Spangled Banner to begin this thing? Whatever.
As far as everything goes before the trilogy it has its moments but there is just way too much filler. For every quality song there seem to be two weak songs. And Ripper Owens just isn't as good as Matt Barlow at singing a ballad. When the Eagle Cries was decent the first time I heard it but after that I realized just how generic and simple it was.
And why did they make an unplugged version of it to put on the album as well? More filler and I guess they made a video for MTV2 for the unplugged version as well. Kinda weird since The Reckoning is the single.
Attila is definitely my favorite song pre-trilogy. Everything is perfect on that one.
Ok, then the Gettysburg trilogy. Starts off with the Star Spangled Banner again, this time with the drums and more Civil War like. As a whole it is probably the best thing they have ever done. It is a 32 minute track but broken up into three parts so it is easier to skip to a part you want to hear I guess.
The orchestra is a very nice touch to it. I am a sucker for an orchestra and IE does it way better than that joke of a Metallica attempt with S&M.
It definitely drags in parts and it is actually quite simple musically. Iced Earth has never been the most complex band. I have only listened to it a couple times and I'm not sure if it is going to get old fast. The lyrics are cheesy to the fullest and even though there is nothing wrong with Tim Owens I still miss Matt Barlow. He was the perfect vocalist for IE.
Anyways, it is a solid album with a few great songs and then the great Gettysburg trilogy. I will be picking this up sometime later this month.
It isn't as good as The Dark Saga or Something Wicked This Way Comes or maybe even The Horror Show because there is just so much filler on here it is unbeliavable but there is still about 40 minutes of solid music on a 79 minute album or however long it is.

Well with my little knowledge about Megadeth (very little  :p ) I have figured out that he left because he prefers to play alot of different styles and felt that only 1% of what he is capable of gets onto a Megadeth record.
When Cryptic Writings went insanely huge (with Trust as a big rock single) Dave's next album was more mainstream and less metal with "Risk", this was poorly recieved. Marty felt that 'deth were going to go back to their older style (which they kinda did) so he decided to continue to release Solo albums.
As marty says on "Behind The Music: Megadeth" "I like to paint in all sorts of colours, reds, greens, blues, purples. But when you're Megadeth all you get to use is Gun metal gray." Well something like that.
But as I said, I don't know much :D

As I said, I fucking love his playing in 'deth, but have you heard a solo album of his called 'Introduction'. It is the biggest pile of shit I have ever heard.

You don't get offers in the mail??
Go to their website and sign up. I'm pretty sure they offer at least 12 free ones for anyone who's never been a member before. You might have to pay for shipping online, instead of waiting for them to bill you. That's the only thing that sucks about not signing up through the mail.
I'm also pretty sure you can search through their entire stock and see what they have before you sign up.

Sounds like the same thing I said/complained/asked when Simon had the job for a week.
He said "If people complain or make something of it then I'll either make this sticky or unmake the rap one sticky", Hack's mentioned it to me (why would anyone ever talk to Simon about it; he's clueless). Even anyway I argued that it's a psychological subconsciousness thing but Simon's an idiot.

i've been getting into a lot of black/death metal recently. i have two immortal albums, a morbid angel album, lots of slayer, a testament album, two death albums, a napalm death album, and i've always liked stuff like dillinger escaple plan, meshuggah, pantera, etc.
opeth is coming around the east coast in february and i think i might go. i'm getting into them a lot now since i've got four more of their albums. the interesting thing about them is that i really don't consider them a heavy band. they're mellow, and i think that just because they have heavy riffs and their singer growls sometimes they're considered black metal. for me anyway, they're pretty atmospheric, sort of like neurosis and isis, only better.

just got the new guitar world with dimebag on the cover. haven't read the article about damageplan and pantera yet, but they list the 100 greatest metal guitarists ever. i don't feel like typing out the entire list, but note:
top ten:
1. tony iommi
2. hammett/hetfield
3. angus/malcolm young
4. randy rhoads
5. eddie van halen
6. jimmy page
7. dimebag darrell
8. zakk wylde
9. adam jones
10. kerry king/jeff hanneman
retarded things:
jimi hendrix is #12 on the list.
ace frehley/paul stanley are #14.
munky and head from korn are #26, ahead of #27, john petrucci.
listing two guitarists in one slot is kinda lame.
joe satriani is #77. joe satriani is not a metal guitarist.
neil young is on the list. neither is he.
other notes:
for all you mustaine/friedman dick-suckers, they're #19.
chuck schuldiner of death is shockingly #20.
trey azagthoth from morbid angel is surprisingly #55.
alex skolnick/eric peterson from testament are surprisingly #61.
john christ from danzig is #63, with the headline "you can't get more metal than danzig."
pepper keenan/woody weatherman of CoC are #65.
mark morton/will adler of lamb of god are #80.
jim martin from faith no more is #90, except his "shining moment" is said to be from out of nowhere off the real thing. that's like the last song i'd pick.
#92 is bill steer from napalm death.
it's a decent list aside from some retardation, and i like that true metal bands got recognition.
fear is the mindkiller
January 23rd, 2004, 11:22 AM
Angus and Malcolm technically aren't metal guitarists either. Or Jimi Hendrix or Frehley/Stanley. So yea, the list is kind of weird unless they're talking about the guys that most influenced metal guitarists.
I would of put Rhoades as no.2 and moved Hammet/Hetfield back to maybe 6 or 7.

I just got my 15 CDs in the mail! :headbang:
Now I'm listening to Six Feet Under - Graveyard classics.
So far it's awesome, and unintentionally funny.
EDIT: Okay, listened to Cannibal Corpse's Gallery of Suicide CD: decent, but I liked Bloodthirst better.
Crowned in Terror by The Crown is probably my favorite of what I've listened to so far. Just awesome and unrelenting. Slayer's Hell Awaits CD is a somewhat close second. I've always liked pre-Reign in Blood Slayer the best. Not to say RiB isn't good, and maybe I listened myself sick of it, but whatever.
Morbid Angel is definitely different than most of my CDs. Gateways to Annihilation has kind of a dreary, mid-paced sound to it that sounds awesome. I'll have to listen to Altars of Madness tomorrow.

From BBC News:
Drummer guilty of sex attacks
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/39757000/jpg/_39757217_david_holland203.jpg Holland has been convicted of attempted rape
Rock drummer David Holland has been convicted of trying to rape a special needs youngster. Holland was also found guilty of five charges of indecently assaulting the teenager.
The musician, who played with the band Judas Priest in the 1970s and 1980s, was convicted of the charges at Northampton Crown Court on Friday.
Holland, 55, of The Green, Stoke Bruerne, who denied all the charges, was convicted on majority verdicts.
All the offences took place at the drummer's Northamptonshire home between June and December 2002 when he was giving the 17-year-old drumming lessons.
Judge Charles Wide QC said he was very concerned about the risk Holland presented to adolescent boys and remanded him in custody for a pre-sentence report.
"I in particular would be interested in an assessment of the risk Mr Holland poses to adolescent young men," Judge Wide said.
Holland's co-accused, Spiros Laouitaris, 22, of Bourne Crescent, Kings Heath, Northampton, was earlier acquitted of three separate charges of indecently assaulting the same teenager, who is now 18, but who cannot be named for legal reasons.
Self-esteem
He was cleared of a fourth indecent assault charge on Thursday on the directions of Judge Wide, who said there had been insufficient evidence.
The jury was told the teenager's parents had organised the lessons to boost their son's self-esteem.
As the relationship between teacher and pupil grew, they had allowed him to stay at Holland's home.
The jury heard the abuse was revealed in a letter written by the teenager to his parents on 14 December, 2002.
Maria Savvides, prosecuting, told the court the boy had managed to stop Mr Holland from raping him but said he had been abused in other ways.
Filthy pervert.

It's okay, although if you have all the studio albums and you're not a MH fanatic,it's not essential really anyway.

Really? I thought Gallery Of Suicide was way more varied and textured (as varied and textured a band like Cannibal Corpse are). But each to their own.
Crowned In Terror is awesome. A great band doing something a little different to the increasingly boring melodic death metal scene. It's got a real dirty rock vibe to it. I wonder how the re-recorded version of it with the returned original vocalist will sound? Get Possessed 13 as well, it's super solid too.
Is the live Machine Head album worth getting?
I wouldn't say so. Although my passion for MH has dwindled over the years. Sounded a little sloppy to me and Rob sounds below par live, at least on this particular recording.
