Oh yeah, and Happy Birthday Grimario. You'll wander in here eventually. It was either here or the AFL thread. Here seems good enough.

Thanks man

Gee whiz. So much reading to catch up on.

First things first, we don't really need to be moderated and told to 'keep it clean, boyzzz'. We're all grown up and have no problem with each other. This thread is like a forum within a forum. We've got a real community vibe in here and trying police it when there is nothing to police is ludicrous.

To Deicide....they're a pretty solid death metal band. I agree with Nemesis on Glen's vocals too. As harsh as they are they are surprisingly audible which is to be commended considering the effort he puts into them.

Speaking of good drummers....my all time favourite is Gene Hoglan. But someone who has caught my ear recently is Flo Mounier from Cryptopsy. The preciseness and speed of the man is awesome. His beats must be heard.

Ohhhhhhhhh I got new Zyklon (Aeon, to be exact) ! Some of the best extreme metal going round right now...I've heard some songs but not in it's entirety.

Hey Brendan, I was speaking to the resident metal fan at JB HiFi today and he said that the upcoming Opeth tour could well be promoting the 'Damnation' album. So maybe it'll be a night around a table with some schooies and good old fashioned relaxing tunes?

 I never said they were, I just said that at first I found his voice difficult to understand.

I actually liked that first album though. I find, though, that a lot of people started hating on them once they got big, don't know if that pertains to here but a lot of my metaller friends liked Slipknot bigtime for months and then started suddenly saying they were shit once Wait And Bleed was released.

I liked them after hearing Wait And Bleed and getting their self titled and then their Iowa albums. I liked them for a while, then people here (Aussie mainly) and a dude at my school recommended to me some real metal to check out. Once I heard the real, good stuff...I just stopped listening to Slipknot. It's like drinking a glass of warm piss when a nice, ice cold coke is sitting right next to it.

I wish. They pushed the release date back to the 26th here.

I read on Blabbermouth today that ex-Machine Head and Soulfly guitarist Logan Mader has his own project. He recorded his demo with Junkie XL (Think "A Little Less Conversation" remix), yet he reckons it's a return to his heavier roots. Hmmmmmm, interesting.

Plus,I always find a good Phil Anselmo rant interesting-

"SUPERJOINT RITUAL frontman Philip Anselmo called into the "Kaos" radio show on Utah's rock radio station KBER 101 in late August. Listen to the interview in two parts: Part#1, Part#2.

In other news, Anselmo recently spoke to Canada's Chart Attack about his plans for SUPERJOINT RITUAL.

"I want to prove to people that this isn't just another side-project from Phil Anselmo," he said. "Not, 'Oh shit, here's another side-project and he'll maybe do one tour. It's not that important.' Well it IS that important because I'm gonna fuckin' do this. Right now, this is the premiere standard setter for true heavy metal."

"Honestly, there haven't been any bands worth shit as of late, so SUPERJOINT RITUAL, we're that band. I would love to promote or produce other bands, but there would have to be more of an uprising in bands that I liked. There aren't many bands that I like to be honest. It's hard to find a band with the full package. They may have a great drummer but that doesn't mean they're a great band. Or they can play the most technical shit ever but that doesn't equal a real song. I know the difference, it's a language of its own and you have to know how to use it."

ooo Blind Guardian, dropping into the Power Metal scene. :)

Blind Guardian's best two albums would easily have to be Imagination on the Other Side and Nightfall in Middle Earth. If you haven't figured it out already Nightfall is about the entire Silmarillion by JRR Tolkien. If you haven't read the book and since the Silmarillion is disjointed in times you may find it a bit hard to follow but it's an awesome record, adds to the feel of it.

Imaginations is just a normal record with nine songs.

Alot of what Blind Guardian do isn't metal? Blind Guardian are definitely metal, they're like in the middle of the metal scene, there is nothing they do that isn't metal. Sure it isn't something insanely heavy like thrash or death but this'd be why it's called Power Metal. Basically this is the genuine sound you get out of Europe (not the North [ie Scandanavia]) but is brilliant. If you like Blind Guardian you should probably look into Kamelot, Avantasia (Pt's I & II) and Stratovarius.

It's strange here no-one makes any calls that Power Metal is gay. :)

Yes I Know they're Metal but a few of their songs, example, "The Bard's Song" Isn't metal at all..... then again, I suppose lots of bands in this genre, Gamma Ray etc. have songs like that.

I really seem to remember you saying once, something like, "Blind Guardian hurts my ears".......

I find I tend to focus much more on the musicianship than the lyrics when I'm listening to Power Metal.Nothing against the songwriting, but it does have the tendency at times to be a little too over-the-top.Still,it's a more than enjoyable sub-genre of metal.Dungeon are definitely a favourite of mine.

Does anyone else get the strange urge to sing along and randomly pump your fist in the air when you hear power metal?

And this was generalised to most forms, thrash, heavy, prog, hair. It seems we all like to make complete fools out of ourselves because the music is damn cool :headbang:

September 19th, 2003, 9:25 PM
Dave Lombardo,Gene Hoglan,John Stainer and John Sankey, amongst others.

Anyway,I went to the Marilyn Manson/Jerk show last night.I'm not a fan of Jerk, and most of their stuff sounds damn repetitive, but they at least have a lot of energy on-stage and the crowd loved em' (which isn't surprising when you consider it was probably the ideal show for em').

Manson's set was quite entertaining.Again,I'm not a massive fan,but the pure theatrics and energy of his stage show are pretty entertaining.

Fuck. I was sitting there watching LOTR2 and I hear this massive rumblings. Then I remembered Marilyn Manson was playing the Newy Ent Cent tonight.

It doesnt get that many huge bands playing there these days so it's quite the shock.

I wonder why he is playing up here? When some international act plays here they're either a band on the rise or a band grasping at one last chance to regain some popularity. I think it's a case of the latter.

Crabby
September 20th, 2003, 3:59 PM

I went to one of the Alchemist/Dungeon/Daysend/Earth shows last night,I must say it was an excellent night of metal.Alchemist were excellent,Dungeon and Daysend were both damn good and even though I'd never heard Earth before,I must say they were fairly solid.Even picked up an Alchemist T-Shirt as well.

I for one love Lamb of God. New American Gospel is awesome...and As the Palaces Burn is fast becoming one of my favorite albums of the past few years. They are quite awesome indeed.

But Chimaira's new album is friggin' awesome. Especially considering the fact that the last album they put out was just another nu-metal effort. You can tell that Chimaira has toured with some real metal acts, and they've taken whatever audience they got from the touring and stuck w/ it. Chimaira's latest effort blows their past efforts out of the water. If they keep improving on this style, I'm going to be a fan for years to come.

Yeah I've heard bits and pieces off their major label debut, 'Pass Through Existence' I believe it's called. Plus, I heard some off the latest one and I didn't really get into it. According to my really reliable sources (ie my brother) in recent time Trent and NIN are upto the following:

Not much. Trent is done recording the DOOM3 soundtrack. a few NIN menbers are stuck, like Danny as he's working on the Tapeworm project with Maynard James Keenan from Tool/APC. But that will never get going, its taken forever.

Here's seemingly the full story anyway-

"SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera has officially parted ways with the rest of his band bassist Marcello D. Rapp, drummer Roy Mayorga, and guitarist Mike Doling. According to informed sources, the mass exodus was prompted by the firing of Rapp by Max and SOULFLY manager Gloria Cavalera (Max's wife), which in turn led Mayorga and Doling to quit in protest. Cavalera is said have already launched a search for replacement musicians with a view towards beginning work on the band's fourth album, tentatively due next summer through Roadrunner Records. It is not presently clear if SOULFLY's previously announced live appearances at the end of September — including Thursday's (September 25) gig at the Whiskey A-Go Go in Hollywood, California and Saturday's (September 27) appearance at the D-Low (Dana Wells) Memorial Show in Tempe, Arizona — will go ahead as scheduled or if they will be completely scrapped."

Some sites to post that I forgot last time...if it interests anyone.

Larm (larm.cjb.net) - A decent review site for mostly black and death. They're pretty harsh when it comes to "black metal boy-bands," but they do have some decent reviews.

Metallian (www.metallian.com) - Boasts a lot of bands, but much of it's still incomplete. Some reviews, histories, and the occasional interview. The guy is kind of a black/death snob, and he's a hypocrite sometimes (like praising Killjoy on the new Necrophagia, then saying he should quit making music in the Wurdulak review), but he's spot-on with some of the stuff there.

Anus (www.anus.com/metal) - Actually a good site with some pretty decent links. Somewhere on there is a metal FAQ, which is a good read if you have a lot of time on your hands.

Nu Ahrue can be nothing but bad news for South America. Sure after leaving the American shoreline at San Fransisco he'll just add to the ill nino effect and probably make whatever ill nino is doing bigger and more terrible. But it probably would have been better if it had remained over San Fran because then I could have picked on the yanks and the King does.

And here's un update on the Soulfly situation-

"Bobby Burns (PRIMER 55, BEAUTIFUL) has confirmed via on online posting that he is currently rehearsing with SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera as the group's temporary bassist following the sudden departure of Marcello D. Rapp, drummer Roy Mayorga, and guitarist Mike Doling. The revamped band, who are completed by guitarist Marc Rizzo (ex-ILL NINO) and drummer Joe Nunez (who played on the group's "Primitive" release and subsequent world tour), are expected to make their live debut this Thursday (September 25) at the Whiskey A-Go Go in Hollywood, California.

"Although I'm really not sure of the reasons why the other guys aren't in the band anymore, I've been friends with Max and [wife/manager] Gloria [Cavalera] for a long time now and I can't say anything bad about them," Burns writes. "Very, very nice folks, very down to earth, very loving, very caring. I just got out to [Phoenix, Arizona] yesterday [September 22] and we started rehearsing for the upcoming show and it's going great.. (the new SOULFLY songs rock ass, by the way). It makes me laugh when people think they know about someone when they don't. Max has NO ego and he's far from being stuck up. He's just very shy around people he doesn't know. That's all. He's a great guy and doesn't deserve a bad rap from anyone."

As previously reported, SOULFLY are scheduled to make the following live appearances this week:

Sep. 25 – Whiskey A-Go Go - Hollywood, CA
Sep. 26 - La Luna/Gotham - San Bernardino, CA
Sep. 27 - Marquee Theatre - Tempe, AZ

The group's performance in Tempe will be part of the 7th annual D-Low (Dana Wells) Memorial Show, which has been held every year since Dana's (stepson of Max) death in August 1996. SOULFLY are also working on an on October 18 show on the Navajo Indian Reservation on for their yearly fair. Several thousand people are expected to attend. More information will be made available soon.

Cavalera is expected to begin pre-production for the group's fourth album this fall for a tentative mid-2004 release through Roadrunner Records."

Here's some more Motley Crue-related stuff I found on Blabbermouth anyway-

"MÖTLEY CRÜE/BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION bassist Nikki Sixx has posted the following message to the "Rock'n'Roll Diary" section of CRÜE's official web site:

"Hey guys.. Wanted to update you on some CRÜE news. We have a new labal (Universal Music) and they do a 'Millennium Series' of bands they work the catalog of, so we will be added to the series.

"Universal Europe wants to do a definitive 3-CD 1 DVD package for Europe only… The title is ... 'Loud As F#@K'.

"Our DVD greatest hits (greatest video hits) will be out November 11 of this year… Finally… It will have every video we ever did....

"Our box set is called 'Music To Crash Your Car To'… I'm hoping for it to be out this year but most likely first quarter of 2004... We've scrapped pretty hard with the re-releases so this is really a collector package and you won't find any new music, but if you don't have all the music and extras for some reason it's a nice way to get the whole career in one shot... Box sets don't always sell a lot but I think it's a cool thing to have.

"The writer is 80% done with the first draft of 'The Dirt' movie… I know he's been spending time with Tommy. Paramount is ready to green light the $ as soon as they approve the script...

"I speak to Tommy, Mick and Vince quite often, but I know Vince has some resentments that need to be ironed out. But if everybody wants to do a CRÜE tour I'm there… At this point for me a MÖTLEY CRÜE tour is not about the money. I'd really like to go out and give one last kick ass tour where everybody including the band walk away with a smile on there face.

"In the end, I'm powerless."

And have you seen Metallica's "Frantic" video yet,Dave? I hear there's a "Making Of" on-line as well.

Written out as sung. And this is a long and fast song.

You take great pride in never having lived up to anything
Lie, steal, cheat, and kill, a real bad guy
Your daddy is a wino, and your mommy is quite insane
From altar boy to sewer rat, you don't give a damn
Your sister's a junkie, get "it" anyway she can
Your brother's a gay singer in a stud leather band
Your girlfriend's got herpes to go with your help and aids
There ain't one person you know you ain't rip off yet

Look deep in the mirror, look deep into its eyes
Your face is replaced, a creature you despise
But I know what you're made of, it ain't much I'm afraid
I know you'll be lying until your dying day

Make up your stories, but truth's so hard to say
Brain is numb and your tongue will surely did you grave
Your mind is sickly from Alzheimer's disease
And decadence and debauchery killed your memories

You're a liar, liar, liar, everyone can see
Liar, liar, liar, it's all you'll ever be
Liar, liar, liar, it's what you mean to me
Liar, liar, liar ...

Start trouble, spread pain
Piss and venom in your veins
Talk nasty, breathe fire
Smell rotten you're liar
Sweat liquor, breathe snot
Eat garbage, spit blood
Diseased, health hazard
Scum bag, filthy bastard
Grease face, teeth decay
Hair matted, drunk all day
Abscessed, sunken veins
Rot gut, scrambled brain
Steal money, crash cars
Rob jewelry, hock guitars
Rot in hell, it's time you know
To your master, off you go

You're a liar
A fucking liar
Filthy liar
Liar
You fucking liar
Liar

Gotta love actually knowing the lyrics. Makes it easier to catch up during solos and bridges. May actually be my favourite song along with RIP... Polaris and Set The World Afire.

Although Opeth did release their two albums within 7 months of each other. Weren't they originally thinking of making that a double album until they decided it wouldn't fit well together and they didn't want fans to pay for something they might not want.

I read somewhere that they were planned as a double disc album from the onset but marketing decided that to mix the two styles would pigeon hole the fans. "Metal" fans wouldn't be interested in the acoustic stuff, and people who weren't interested in metal would overlook the acoustic stuff. I got Damnation on NiMMERS recommendation and, after having listened to bits of Deliverance (I think thats what he played me earlier this year) I can agree with the marketing idea. Not that it really effects me as I didn't quite "buy" the album.... but ya know what I mean.

Even the Sunday Telegraph gave it a panning and they usually give any one hit wonder bands rave reviews. It got 2 stars. They got it right by saying there's heaps of atmosphere but there is no catchy tunes at all. But they're great live.

Who knows if they'll go anywhere...I thought Cog had a better chance but nothing seems to be happening. They went extremely left-field with JV Part 2. There was nothing resembling a proper song on it.

Just got my CDs in the mail this weekend.

Immortal's 'Damned in Black' is excellent. Just like SoND, there's nothing bad about it. I could see how a fan of old-school metal could easily like this one. Next I'll probably get the 'At the Heart of Winter' and just keep going backwards.

The new Dimmu Borgir is ok, but I'm not totally into it yet at least. It sounds too much like Old Man's Child (who are awesome, but if I wanted Old Man's Child, I'd just buy that instead). There's good songs, but it just seemed like, overall, they didn't really let loose like they did on 'Enthrone Darkness Triumphant' or especially 'Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia.' If you're comparing this to Cradle of Filth's new one (since these bands are endlessly compared to each other anyway), CoF definitely had the better album. CoF kept an intensity in their music that 'Death Cult Armageddon' seemed to fall a bit short of reaching.

And I also paid extra just for a gatefold digipak and a so-so bonus track. :\

Don't know why I keep thinking of stuff to do on here, but list some bands that nobody talks about on here if you want.

Acid Bath
Surprisingly, these guys aren't very well known. They have some fairly heavy stuff, but they're softer songs like "Graveflower" are their best. The best thing I could call them to give you an idea of how they sound is goth metal, but even that doesn't do them justice. They have a CD that features paintings by John Wayne Gacy in the booklet ('When the Kite String Pops'), and another one featuring Jack Kevorkian's artwork ('Paegan Terrorism Tactics'). It's a damn shame they're not still around, but I think one of the guys is in Goatwhore now.

Biohazard
Everyone knows who they are, but a lot of people forget about them. Their new stuff isn't so great (at least what I've heard ), but State of the World Address was an awesome CD, Urban Discipline, too. "Tales From the Hardside" was awesome. I saw several of their videos on Headbangers Ball way back, but I've never met a Biohazard fan that I know of.

Amon Amarth
Unfortunately, I only own one CD by these guys, but it's pretty fucking cool. "Sound of Eight Hooves" almost sounds like a war song (well, according to Norse mythology, it is one) and is probably the best song on the CD.

I agree somewhat on that. I think other bands like Hammerfall could include Gamma Ray, Dream Evil, Rhapsody and Rage (recently). For Blind Guardian to resemble Hammerfall at all, you'd have to go back a few albums. If you want Hammerfallish BG, check out Lost in the Twilight Hall, Welcome to Dying, and older stuff.

I just got my hands on a copy of a (the?) Hammerfall comic book... :scared:

During the drive home from Kansas City last weekend, she was asking me about the music I listened to (We were listening to Dark Funeral at the time). Somehow, I got to telling her about the church burnings and murders and stuff, and she thought everything sounded pretty interesting. I let her borrow my copy of Lords of Chaos to read over, and I think she's reading it even faster than I did.

Here's a Slayer update-

" SLAYER FOUR-DISC BOX SET SOUNDTRACK TO THE APOCALYPSE FEATURES ALBUM TRACKS, RARITIES AND DVD OF LIVE PERFORMANCES; FIVE-DISC DELUXE EDITION ADDS CONCERT CD...

Slayer, the fastest, heaviest and darkest band on the planet, goes to extremes for its first retrospective. A three-CD/one-DVD box set regular edition and four-CD/one-DVD specially packaged "ammo box" for the deluxe version, Soundtrack To The Apocalypse (American Recordings/UMe), released November 25, 2003, celebrates the visceral assault that is Slayer.

A Slayer fan's ultimate experience, Soundtrack To The Apocalypse includes tracks spanning every Slayer album since 1986, soundtrack cuts, Japan-only tracks, more than a dozen rarities, and a DVD of live performances spanning 20 years, all digitally remastered. The deluxe edition adds a full-length concert CD from Slayer's 2002 God Hates Us All tour stop in Anaheim, CA, presented in a "blood pack" sleeve (with faux blood and floating skulls). The tour was the band's first with original drummer Dave Lombardo since 1992. The deluxe edition also includes a wall banner and replica backstage laminate. Both editions have an extensive booklet spotlighting a history based on interviews with each member and long-time producer Rick Rubin.

Disc 1 opens with five tracks from Slayer's 1986 major label debut, Reign In Blood, considered the most brutal thrash metal album of all time. Among the fan favorites are "Postmortem" and "Raining Blood." The album was the first of four consecutive gold studio albums, an impressive feat for a band that receives little radio or MTV exposure. From 1988's South Of Heaven are five tracks, including the title track. Culled from 1990's Seasons In The Abyss are another quintet, including "Dead Skin Mask." 1991's live Decade Of Aggression contributes three--"Chemical Warfare" and "Hell Awaits" among them.

Disc 2 continues the chronology with five recordings from 1994's Divine Intervention, three from 1996's Undisputed Attitude, a trio from 1998's Diabolus In Musica and another three from 2001's God Hates Us All. Songs heard on various soundtracks are joined by two cuts previously unreleased in the U.S. from the Japanese Diabolus In Musica, two more from the import God Hates Us All and a bonus cover of the Suicidal Tendencies' "Memories Of Tomorrow" from the Japan-only Undisputed Attitude.

Disc 3 focuses on rarities, from the earliest known Slayer recordings (previously unreleased 1983 live tracks) to seminal tracks taken from the band's garage rehearsals and even home demo recordings. The Disc 4 DVD showcases performances throughout the band's career and throughout the world as well as various TV appearances from singer-bassist Tom Araya, guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and Lombardo.

Slayer is the band all other such heavy bands are measured against, defining not only a genre but an attitude. As Marc Paschke writes in the liner notes: "It's about restrained aggression and impending danger. It's about the dark cloud that fills the room, energized by the anger and hate and hostility of the audience…Most of all, it's about feeling good."

Soundtrack To The Apocalypse--it's the feel-good box set for the end of the world."

Another source rang the Hi-Fi bar and they said that they're doing one under 18 show and 2 x 18+ shows

Here's another amusing Kerry King rant-

"SLAYER guitarist Kerry King gave a lengthy interview to Metal Edge magazine in which he discussed a number of topics, including the progress of the songwriting sessions for SLAYER's next album and METALLICA's evolution from an underground thrash phenomenon to one of the most commercially successful heavy rock bands in the world.

The following are some of the highlights of King's interview with Metal Edge:

Q: What did you think of METALLICA "Icon" on MTV, did you see it?

Kerry King: "You know, someone called me the day before and said, 'I can get you into the show.' I was like, 'Yeah, it might be cool to check out.' I was thinking about it, but I'm like, 'I'm not sure I'm ready to suck METALLICA's dick yet. I haven't heard the new record, and I don't want to be on that bandwagon. I knew it was going to be an MTV event and everyone was going to be sucking METALLICA's dick, and it was going to be a huge snooze fest and I didn't want to be a part of it. I did watch the whole thing, I Tivo-ed it, and it took me like three or four sittings to get through it, because I couldn't stomach the whole thing. How the fuck do you let SNOOP DOGG get in there and butcher your song? Yet I watched it, and it sounded like somebody gave him the lines backstage and he just learned them. How is that good? That irritated the hell out of me. That just really offended me… Then you see Lars grooving to the drums, doing air drums, and I'm like, 'What the fuck are you listening to, dude?' "

Q: Are you guys friends with METALLICA, both being [originally] from [Southern California]?

Kerry King: "We've never been close friends, we've pretty much been acquaintances, at best. All these years, we got the one show at Giant Stadium, the Tattoo The Earth show METALLICA did. We did one Donington with METALLICA in like '94, and probably a handful of club dates when we were nobody. That's it. It's not like we cross paths that often."

Q: So there wasn't a sense of camaraderie from the onset?

Kerry King: "No. I loved METALLICA in the beginning, I used to go to Woodstock in Orange County and watch them when [Dave] Mustaine was in the band. I thought Mustaine's shit didn't stink — and so did Mustaine, that's his problem. I was just blown away! Me and Jeff [Hannemann] would go up to Woodstock and pay money just to go see METALLICA, because Mustaine would be up there ripping through everything! Everything on that album, even the leads that are on the album, are what Mustaine played — not even looking at what he was playing, just ripping. We were just blown away by that. I was a fan, for sure. I mean, even through 'Puppets', I was still a fan. When I was a kid, I was a PRIEST fan and a MAIDEN fan, but if I had a band I liked and they made a record I didn't like, I was just offended. When PRIEST put out 'Point Of Entry', I just burned it. I was like, 'How could you do this to me?' Then I kind of felt that way with '…And Justice For All', it was kind of a letdown to me, the mix was kind of weird. There were some great songs on it, but to me, it wasn't better than 'Puppets'. Then when they did that whole 'Load'/'Reload' thing, I was just… There are probably a lot of people on this planet that were pretty put aside. I even like the 'Black' record. It's no 'Master Of Puppets', but it's got some fuckin' heavy shit on it."

Later in the interview, King brought up METALLICA's name once again, saying, "You know what is really weird? I'll bring up the new METALLICA record again. How do you have one of the best guitar players on the planet and not let him play anything? You have 75 minutes of whatever you call it, and you're not letting Kirk [Hammett] play a lead? That's where you made your bread and butter for the last 20 years! How do you do that? I have no idea. I mean, I played that record ['St. Anger'] twice, and that's all I am ever going to play it. I played it once, and then I had to make sure, but I just don't' get it. This isn't METALLICA bashing — I mean, I am holding back, trust me."

Q: Have you written anything for a new record yet?

Kerry King: "Jeff probably has like four or five songs on CD, and when he makes his stuff and presents it to us, it's like finished — drum machine, bass guitar, everything. When I present mine, it's guitar on a cassette tape, 'Here you go!' That's the difference. Me and Dave [Lombardo] have been working stuff out, we probably have played like four-and-a-half, five tunes. With the touring, with the break we got for press, the tour I got coming up next week in Europe, it's hard to focus on new stuff. Just before we came out here, me and Dave were like, 'Let's get our feet wet.' It's very exciting stuff. I mean, three out of the four we did are traditional fuckin' SLAYER tunes with breaks out of nowhere, and speed going here, and a chunk going on there… Then there's random one that we worked on that's more like a 'Gemini' [off 'Undisputed Attitude'] tune. It's all traditional SLAYER in different periods of what SLAYER is and has been. I can't wait to get serious about it and start working on it, but we are looking at putting it out in March, April, May? I can't guarantee it, but I would put some hard cash on it going out before summer."

And here's his thoughts on the Slayer box set-

"SLAYER guitarist Kerry King recently spoke to Guitar.com about the group's long-awaited box set, "Soundtrack To The Apocalypse", due on November 25 through American Recordings/Ume.

"There's tons of stuff on there," he said. "The problem was that we had too much stuff. I've got five big Tupperware boxes — the big storage boxes that you find in a garage — and I've got those full of stuff that I've collected over the years. I've got every magazine that I've seen us in, and I probably have around 70 VHS and 8 mm videos dating back to '83. So we just had tons of shit to sift through everything. I think the first two discs are just audio. Basically, we picked through all our records, and I think 'Disorder' from the 'Judgment Night' soundtrack [with Ice-T] is on there. Then there's a disc of audio rarities, and there's a DVD with a lot of the stuff we picked from the stuff I've filmed over the years, and some of our other TV engagements. There's a bigger box, which will have a fifth disc with pieces of a live concert from [original drummer] Dave Lombardo's first tour back. There's also a 70-page book, and a cool banner. They put their minds to it and came up with some good stuff!

When asked who selected material for the box set, King said, "I think we all just spewed up a bunch of stuff for people to choose from. We told them to give us back a disc of what they thought were the best things. Then we'd look at it, and if it's a good performance but we didn't care for the song, we'd say to pick another song. Nick John at our management [Sanctuary] went through every video and transferred it all to DVDs. So he saw just about everything." Read the rest of the interview here.

As previously reported, SLAYER will enter the studio in early 2004 to record the follow-up to 2001's "God Hates Us All", which has sold 229,638 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The upcoming effort will mark the group's first studio release since 1990's "Seasons In The Abyss" to feature original drummer Dave Lombardo, who rejoined the group two years ago. SLAYER are currently headlining the Jagermeister Fall Music Tour with HATEBREED and ARCH ENEMY."

More information has surfaced about "Archetype", FEAR FACTORY's contribution to the forthcoming "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" soundtrack, due on November 4 through Nitrus Records. The track, which was composed by the group's bassist-turned-guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers and drummer Raymond Herrera and features lyrics written by frontman Burton C. Bell, was self-produced at the band's own recording studio and was remixed by programmer/engineer Steve Tushar, who had toured with FEAR FACTORY back in 1996 and has done some remixes for KORN. A re-recorded version of the song is expected to appear on the band's forthcoming full-length album, tentatively due next summer through an as-yet-undetermined label (strongly rumored to be Los Angeles-based D3 Entertainment). "Archetype" marks FEAR FACTORY's first release without the contributions of founding member Dino Cazares, who was unceremoniously ousted from the band last year.

The track listing for the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" soundtrack is as follows:

01. PANTERA - "Immortally Insane"
02. HATEBREED - "Below The Bottom"
03. SOIL - "Pride"
04. STATIC-X - "Deliver Me"
05. MUSHROOMHEAD - "43"
06. SEETHER - "Pig"
07. NOTHINGFACE - "Down In Flames"
08. 40 BELOW SUMMER - "Self-Medicate"
09. MOTOGRATER - "Suffocate"
10. SHADOWS FALL - "Destroyer Of Senses"
11. MESHUGGAH - "Rational Gaze"
12. FEAR FACTORY - "Archetype" (Remix)
13. MORBID ANGEL - "Enshrined By Grace"
14. INDEX CASE - "Listen"
15. FINGER ELEVEN - "Stay In Shadow"
16. LAMB OF GOD - "Ruin"
17. SWORN ENEMY - "As Real As It Gets"
18. CORETEZ - "Five Months"

LAMB OF GOD will kick off the "Headbangers Ball Tour" with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SHADOWS FALL, GOD FORBID, and UNEARTH on October 28 in Montreal. LAMB OF GOD's sophomore album, "As The Palaces Burn", has shifted 31,183 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Fozzy???..... doing originals???......it can't be!

---------------------

FOZZY, the brainchild of former WWE champion Chris Jericho and ex-STUCK MOJO mastermind Rich Ward, have decided to do away with their "SPINAL TAP of '80s hairspray metal scene" gimmick and record an album consisting 100% of original material. The band's follow-up to last year's "Happenstance", which contained four original songs alongside a host of classic metal covers, is tentatively due next spring.

"You can consider this the beginning of the true FOZZY dynasty," the group's webmaster Eddie Dibergi writes on their web site. "Yes, the band will continue to put on the most entertaining and powerful show in rock but the gimmicks will be retired. Love 'em or hate 'em, the music and performances will stand on their own with nothing to get in the way. And we're sure that the legend built touring the world these past three years will continue to grow as new fans witness first-hand the machine that is FOZZY.

"As I type, Rich Ward is heavy into pre-production crafting some of the most brutal riffs ever to be recorded. Chris and I are working on getting all of the pieces in place for the recording and worldwide distribution of the new disc and other FOZZY materials. The band is tentatively scheduled to be in the studio right after the New Year. The new disc will be recorded in Atlanta and Tampa studios. Expect lots of info, pics and clips once things get rolling"

In addition to continuing work on the material for their next full-length effort, the band will participate in "a huge upcoming CD compilation release" with a new song that is "about to be recorded," according to Jericho. No further information is available at this time.

Yo everyone, what is goin' down tonite?? I love all kinds of muzik, but the style I'm most passionate about has to be metal baby!! However, this Arch Enemy band isn't metal at all....not by a LONG shot!! They try and look all tuff and evil in their slick promo photos, but the music on the disc don't back up the image!! They look so dorky, with their out dated mullets, tight clothing with no brand names I recognize, cheesy poses and all around ugliness!! Also the singer looks like a girl, what exactly is going through this dudes head anyway?? And as for the music, oh man is it bad!! Simple minded vocals that sound like someone is gargling, stupid one chord riffs strummed way to fast, annoying solos, and a drummer who don't keep time good at all!! Please people, for good metal stick with the proven leaders like Limp Bizkit, KoRn, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Staind, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Blink 182, E Town Concrete and that silly cowboy Toby Keith!! Also hot is the debut from Clay Aiken and the multi-talented Justin Timberlake!! Have fun these artists and ignore these Arched Enema poseurs!! Peace out peeps...

And every review is an anti-metal one giving one star. Bands like Handed and the like. Good for a laugh I guess, but anyone who's like this seriously is a moron.

OPETH have set "Lamentations - Live At Shepherds Bush Empire" as the title for their forthcoming live DVD, due on November 24 through Music For Nations.

As previously reported, the disc, which was recorded September 25 in London, will contain both the mellow and heavy set with a running time of approximately an hour each, as well as a unique 65-minute documentary about the band with in-depth focus on the recording of "Deliverance" and "Damnation". And it's Heavy :headbang: 4:25min. (off the radio: the radio edit is 4:16)

Very thrashy.

They could hit mainstream with this single: Out November 11th.

Now that I've listened to it:
Strangely for DT, the bass is fairly loud/high in the mix, more than the drums and guitar. Makes you think of Met/'Deth for some reason, has the groovy Metallica thing going on. And it's a radio edit so the song should be longer on the album IMO.

Well?

Yes, I have been waiting unpatiently for something from the album. I have been checking every day to see if the album might have gotten bootlegged(not that I would download it or anything:)). Nah, I am going to probably order off of Amazon in a couple weeks.

I really like this track. It has a mainstream feel yet it still hits heavy. I love how heavy it is for DT standards. I wasn't sure about LaBrie's vocals at the beginning but they got better and better as the song went on. The last couple minutes just kick ass. This has gotten me so hyped for the album. So far, so good. Nice little guitar solo in there as well. As Dave said, I hope this hits the mainstream as they have gone relatively unnoticed for far too long.

:chin: I'm just wondering if I should hear some Darkthrone before Isengard, though. Shit, probably doesn't really matter.

Isengard is different with the folk elements. But as you said, get both cos it's all top quality shit.

Anyone ever hear of a band called Amon Amarth? Their song ´Death in Fire´ truly kicks ass.

I've heard of Amon Amarth. A thrashy black/death type of metal, yeah? I've been thinking of checking them out.

I have The Crusher. It's decent.

"Sound of Eight Hooves" is a badass song.

Same here, December 5th. When are they in Minnesota?

I just hope Dimmu Borgir doesn't play all new stuff. I'm not crazy about the new album.

Thing is, I've hardly even listened to Borgir, and haven't even heard Hypocrisy. I'm only seeing it because it's a few days after the Symphony X/Devin Townsend Band concert, so we've decided to fork out another wad of cash and stick around.

Dimmu Borgir has some great songs, but I haven't heard anything from Hypocrisy that made me want to buy a CD.

A few people I know are going just to see Children of Bodom.

Dream Theater sucks.

Their new album is supposedly a "classic metal album" and a total old Metallica rip-off. All of their albums are gimmicks and all of their songs are about themselves. There is no emotion in their music.

Strapping Young Lad rocks my hairy anus.

Awesome gig last night....only disappointment was the omission of songs like Underneath The Waves, SYL and Far Beyond Metal.

I was surprised at how much they played from the new album, but they played loads of the awesome stuff from City as well.

And you've gotta love these knobs on MS STILL calling Daysend- Gaysend. Funny bastards.*The sarcasm*.

And what's with you turning on Dream Theater,Brent? You used to adore em'.

And here's the confirmation from the Opeth site about them re-scheduling their Aussie "Damnation" tour-

"Australia - re schedule

Opeth have had to re schedule their previously announced Australian tour scheduled for December because the price of flights to Australia were ridiculously expensive due to the time of year making the tour uneconomical.

The dates will be re scheduled for the last week of March 2004.Dates will be posted shortly. We will also be attempting to include Perth if possible this time."
