Didn't know they had released a new track. Sounds excellent as usual. Jens' vocals sound a bit different. That outro was killer, though. Can't wait to hear the whole album.

Which of the big four will call it quits first? They're all in their 50s by now. Megadeth seems the most prolific.

My guess would probably be Slayer, especially if for some reason Gary Holt can no longer pull double-duty between Slayer and Exodus.

Psycho666Soldier
September 27th, 2016, 9:45 PM
I say Slayer. They're already on their last leg and as a band that stayed relatively unchanged for so long, there was never a real "nostalgia" era like Anthrax had when Joey came back. Now their classic drummer is done with 'em and Jeff is dead. Can't imagine there's too much left for them.

Anthrax have sort of found a new lease on life(though I'm kinda iffy on their new material), Megadeth is Dave Mustaine and he'll never stop making music, and Metallica will never stop until they physically can't anymore. Or Lars and James finally have enough of each other, but I can't see that ever happening if it hasn't yet.

I would honestly love to hang out with lars to see how long it would take to punch him in the face. I really think this premise could make an amazing reality bet tv show with proceeds going to charity.

If you make it, you win a bunch of money. Otherwise Lars gets to punch you in the face after.

The plus side is he's probably a wimp, so it's more like a love tap.

Taking a shot in the face from a drummer ( a real drummer) is ill advised.

Not really. Their last two albums are pretty much Prog Rock in the vein of King Crimson. Which is cool, but their last album(Pale Communion) just felt flat to me. It doesn't have as much of the Rock side and is a lot more soft. But not in the same beautiful way that Damnation was.

Heritage is a great album, though.

I heard a about 2 minutes of a single on the radio. The production sounds really good and Kirk's solo was on point. They'll never be able to go back in time and produce the quality of the albums like Master, And Justice, and Black. That's ok though. One thing I hate is when a band says "Our new record sounds more like the stuff people said they wished we still sounded like so 20 years later we're going to try and pull that off". It rarely ever works because you can't force that shit. You can't go from being 57 to 25 and have the same ability and have the same mentality when writing that music. Or when a band says "This is the heaviest record we've ever done" and you hear it and you're like, yeah you're old as fuck of course you'd think this was super heavy lol.

While it usually doesn't create the exact same vibe, I do think there are bands who have had genuine returns to form. Metallica just falls for the same trap many bands do when they say they're going back: they can't shake mainstream rock habits.

Gojira's Magma is great. Took me a couple listens but I love it now. Not as heavy as I'd like but damn good. Also got to see them live about 2 months ago.

Insomnium released a new album called Winter's Gate thats one 40 minute song. Its good and great for a long car ride but not too practical to listen unless you have the time.

Karybdis' Samsara is really good and I posted about it this thread when it came out earlier this year.

Haven't listened to too much stuff that came out this year I guess.

Saor - Guardians
Withdrawal - Never
Sumerlands - Sumerlands
Destroyer 666 - Wildfire
Insomnium - Winder's Gate
Abbath - Abbath

Either from news sites (like Blabbermouth, Loudwire) or from going to shows and coming across opening bands that I enjoy. If neither of those is an option, try going on Pandora and typing in a few bands you like. They'll make a station for you and add a few similar bands.

As far as finding new music, yeah, Pandora is helpful - found some stuff awhile back I hadn't heard of at the time, and sometimes browsing allmusic's artist profiles with artists similar to, just clicking around and listening to stuff related to that which I like.

Just tweeted about this a few minutes ago. I never liked Damageplan past one song and Hellyeah was always garbage in my eyes, but Pantera are legendary. Vinnie had a punchy, hard-hitting yet groovy style that carried the sound of Pantera to greater heights than it would have been otherwise. The duo of he and his brother Dime was great. It's damn shame he had to go, and fairly young, too, but at least he got to enjoy a majority of his life unlike his brother, and assuming he got to die of some sort of natural causes(if not health deterioration from heavy drinking). At least now the two are reunited in death.

Wow: Every TOOL Album Has Already Cracked The iTunes Top 10 (https://metalinjection.net/its-just-business/record-sales/wow-every-tool-album-has-already-cracked-the-itunes-top-10)

This is the first time Tool has ever made their music available to own digitally, so it makes sense that within less than a day all the albums made it into the Top 10 album charts with Ænima performing the best, taking the number two spot, Lateralus, 10,000 Days, and Undertow taking number four, five and six respectively, with the Opiate EP coming in at number eight.

Sounds about right.

Gotta admit though, I'm ignorant to the whole itunes download/purchase thing. I use spotify and so for 11 bucks a month I essentially own everything they offer, including of course the now available Tool catalog. Perhaps itunes is nonetheless a better service somehow, guess I'm just not seeing it.
