How many other groups play power metal with a growling vocalist.... is it that common, have I missed a massive movement.

I hate Children of Bodom for the groups massive WE DONT PLAY POWER METAL PLEASE DONT SAY WE PLAY POWER METAL COME ON GUYS... NOT POWER METAL statements

When Power Metal is obviously what they play.

then wtf do they say they play?

I say that I've seen three Godawful quotes of yours in three different forums in 35 minutes, I haven't been on the boards in months, and that you ought to be done away with on account of being so completely and utterly worthless.

And I speak on behalf of everyone, just FYI

Yes I know that since i listen to bodom, but you said that they claim they dont play power metal even though they do. If they say that they dont play power metal then what in the hell do they say that they play?

Guess I'm dead. I voted B.O.C.

"Godzilla," "Burning For You," and "Don't Fear the Reaper" pretty much own anything I've heard from Blind Guardian. Although I am fairly fond of Hansi w/ Demons & Wizards.

Meh.

Actually I don't mind them, Fiddler on the green is a tune.

Iron Maiden just kicked off their world tour, heres the setlist (I guess i'll stick it in spoiler tags since it will likel be the same the entire tour and some people may not want to know the set in advance).

1. Different World
2. These Colours Don't Run
3. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
4. The Pilgrim
5. The Longest Day
6. Out Of The Shadows
7. The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg
8. For The Greater Good Of God
9. Lord Of Light
10. The Legacy
11. Fear Of The Dark
12. Iron Maiden
---
13. 2 Minutes To Midnight
14. The Evil That Men Do
15. Hallowed Be Thy Name

A pretty disappointing set overall - I didn't expect them to actually go through with playing the entire new album, and would never have guessed RtTH, NoTB and The Trooper would be dropped.

According to Playlouder, a Swedish scientist named a 428-million-year-old fossilized worm (a marine polychaete annelid worm) that he found in the Silurian strata of Gotland, Sweden after the not yet killed-by-death MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister. "[it is] the perfect combination for a long-time fan of the band (and the music genre) and a professor of paleontology, as myself," explained Dr. Mats E. Eriksson, Associate Professor of Paleontology in the Department of Geology at Lund University.

"So, not only is he already a legend in the music business but his name will have a permanent record in Science," Eriksson added. "The fossil in question is a c. 428 million year old jaw of an extinct, marine polychaete annelid worm found in the Silurian strata of Gotland, Sweden. Its scientific name is Kalloprion Kilmisteri."

Now that is fucking metal.

Also Nemesis if you go to next years Wacken you will be in for a good showing... The people who run the festival should think about recording it for DVD.

Blind Guardian and In Flames as headliners should be awesome, it shocks me that the Black Dhalia Murder are so high up the bill though, and I don't like anyone else on the line-up all that much yet other than the headliners.

One thing I like about Wacken is the fact that they announce a good portion of the line-up almost a year in advance, something that English festivals would never do.

I got Triviums new album a couple of days ago, and after listening to it I'm impressed. I decided to wait and get the album instead of rip it from another website.

I can see where the Metallicas references play into it as there are some similiarities but the thing I love about Trivium is they make it there own aswell. They dont just rip off other material. They're so young aswell so they will just keep on getting better.

Back to the album, I like most of the songs especially Detonation, And Sadness Will Sear, Contempt Breeds Contamination, The Rising and even the metal ballad The World Cant Tear Us Apart. I also love the guitar work on The Crusade.

Where on earth did you hear that!?

Leeche is immense, I honestly prefer him to Howard, Alive or Just Breathing is easily in my all time top five, and his vocals are a huge factor in that.

I've seen KsE four times, and three of those times they've been absolutley amazing. One of the cool things about seeing them as well, is the fact that each time not one show has been simmilar to one another due to the enviroment and venues.

First time I saw them was supporting Slayer on The Jagermesiter tour in LA when I was on holiday. They where the main support, and the ignorance of many Slayer fans annoyed me as hardly anyone knew who they where. They came out knowing that know one was bothered about them, and very almost stole the show putting in a great performance. They seemed determined to show everyone what an awesome band they where, and they won the majority of the audience over. Was the biggest venue I've seen KsE in, I think it was somewhere around the 6,500 mark.

Second time was at the Astoria in London, and they where headlining what was an amazing night of music, as the support came from Johnny Truant and All That Remains, and both won me over as a fan. Smallish venue the Astoria, taking about 1,800, I'm sure it was a sell out, and it was without doubt the loudest gig I've ever been too. They litteraly blew the roff off, putting in yet another great performance, topping off an awesome night.

The third, and easily the worst time I saw them was at Download Festival 2005. They played on a freezing cold and very dry Sunday afternoon, and the amount of dust in the air really affected mine and my friends enjoyment of them. Having dust and dirt hit the back of your throat constantly isn't pleasent.

The most recent time I saw them had to be the best, at the Underworld in London. It was a special warm up show for Reading Festival, and it was the most intimate show they'd played in a long time (I think the Underworld has a capacity of 300-400). There was no barrier, and I was right at the front basically leaning on the stage, which was simply amazing, gave me a huge adrehnaline rush, and the atmosphere was so intense. I even managed to get on stage and STAGE DIVE, Anthrax style twice that night, something I never thought I'd do, but my god was the adrehnaline flowing. They played a very different set, mixing the order up a bit, and playing a few new songs, including CM Punk's entrance music, which it seemed I was the only person there who knew it already.

So basicaly, you guys should go to the venue and just try buying a ticket from a tout or find someone with a spare, because trust me, it's well worth it.

Saucy Jack
Saucey Jack
Friday night
I'm on the prowl
With Saucey Jack and Captain Coke
Rollin' cannons and i'm fanning the greens
Feelin' mean
Feelin' rock and roll

Chorus:
I need a kick in the ass
Need a blast
I want a fast girl or two
Oh Lord, dirty livin' gonna kill me
But oh i love it so
Ya know i do

Old vices got me down
Damn dope callin' my name
Everyday i play a losing hand
But i refuse to quit the game
Lord, have mercy

Chorus

Blowin' lights all over town
I got to move, i got to go
Livin' life on a razor's edge
Kiss the bones and let 'em roll
Roll, baby, roll

Chorus

I need a kick in the ass
Need a blast
I want a fast girl or two
Oh Lord, i know it's gonna kill me
But i gotta do
What i got to do
Alright

Seem's to sound more or less along the same lines as End of the Heartache, which is fine, but it hasn't shown any real growth.

This thread needs a bump!

This is a question for Metallica fans, which do you think is the best Metallica album?

Master Of Puppets
...And Justice For All
Metallica (The Black Album)

I'm finding it hard to choose but I listen to The Black Album alot. That album is great from top to bottom and it has Enter Sandam, Nothing Else Matters and The Unforgiven. I love all those songs.

Master Of Puppets is awesome aswell and is there most recognised album. Alot of amazing rifts. Then theres ...And Justice For All which has one of my favourite songs ever 'One'.

If they manage to make another album that good though i'll be claiming they're as good as Guardian (Mostly to annoy Pete, but that's not the point).

I think that's just an opinon though on Puppets, as I've never seen anyone else ever say that about it. I know technically you guys have far better knowledge of how the music is out together and stuff, but I don't agree with that at all (I do more so with Justice though for sure).

Personally, I find nothing on Puppets boring, and over the past 5 years I've listened to the album countless times, and never found one little bit of it boring. I always find it an experience from start to finish, and I'd probably go as far as to call it my favourite album of all time.

OO Metallica discussion :)

Hmm lets see, I love Ride and Kill because I like the raw energetic kinda young, immature sound they had at the time and they were still pretty thrash at the time. I love MoP and I think that album is almost a masterpeice. They showcase incredible talent in playing their instruments and definitely in song writing on that album. And justice had a few good tracks like Blackened, One, the shortest straw, and harvester of sorrow, but it can't compete with the other albums. And the black album, as bad as it was, holds a special place in my heart because it was my first CD ever, given to me by my sister when i was like 9 years old :)

I hate to say it, but I probably wouldn't have really liked them live if I wasn't loving their studio stuff. The singer kept looking down at the lyrics, and there wasn't much activity in general. With all the non-guitar tracks on their ballad, it was almost like kareoke.

I have the new one. I'll upload tonight or tomorrow, depending on when my internet decides to smarten the fuck up. Does anyone have the 4 dvd Therion set? I got it just before I got sick, watched it 4 times through half-conscious, and don't really have the urge to go through it again.

edit: oops, I didn't see the "I love it" part, didn't know you had it. I quite enjoy it, particularly Beautifool and Envy. I'm not sold on their first two, but FFTMC and this are good. I still haven't listened to 100% of it though, I'll have to do that soon.

It is a decent album, which inspired some shitty groups and is very overrated.

No more than 7/10 and is the beginning of the end for Metallica, as they replace thrash with progression that would ruin pop-metal forever.

Is it simply coincidence that Metallica arrived towards the end of the golden age of metal and was at their commercial peak during the dark age of metal?

Speaking of the metal scene... it is really fucking awesome at the moment.

Just how excellent some of the music being produced is at the moment; just this year alone there have been tons of good tunes.

Also last night I saw Nevermore and they were awesome. This Godless Endeavour is the best song I have ever heard live. Only disappointment was with Loomis actually... his solos were just copies of what he produces on the albums, which while these solos are top notch (and I would rate him as one of the better guitarists going around) I did want to see him shake it up a bit.

Warrell Dane was excellent though, his voice sounds better live than in the studio.

Loudest gig ever though. Black Majesty and Lord were awesome as normal.

Ahaha it's a lot easier than it looks. In a nutshell, you need to download a program like 'Azureus', install it and then head on over to a torrent website. All you need to do from there is open the torrent and it will open in Azureus. Choose where to save it to and hey presto!

It is a little confusing at first with seeders and peers and the like, but all you really need to know is that the more seeders (People sharing) the better

I tend to listen to it in short bursts. I couldn't listen to it all day. I really love black and death though because they're not like any other metal genre. It's great to listen to something that harsh.

At the same time, many bands who cross over to the lighter side of metal (folk/progressive) who also have black/death elements are what I really love. When mixed correctly it sounds amazing. Best example of this would be Woods of Ypres. They cross over into so many genres, even though their main sound is black.

Blaaaah, i'm MUCH more fond of the cleaner style of vocals that you find in prog, power and speed. Vocals with range, power, emotion and a degree of depth do it for me a lot more than anything else (Not to suggest death/black can't have that within the context of the music). I like thrashy vocals a ton too, but give me a Geoff Tate, Russell Allen, Mike Baker, Ronnie Dio over just about anyone...

I love Thrashy vocals to bits, and I've got a thing for angry shouty vocals as well I find.

I find myself liking harsher vocals when used in the way that many Metalcore bands use them. For example, I love Killswitch Engage's mix of harsher vocals and melodic vocals.

Made an hour and a half journey down to Brighton last night, and back today, and my mate who was driving had Scar Symmetery on for a bit on the way down, until I got ahold of the iPod and put some Lostprophets on :D

He had them on for the whole jounry this morning though. Aftre about 4 hours sleep it was an awesome wake up cure I'll say that.

Hmmm...as far as vocals go, I can take death, but I like it in the context of a fun sounding song to counteract it, i.e. Ensiferum or Arch Enemy. Death vocals with blastbeats and random riffage don't do it for me, and I wouldn't listen to CC on my own time.

As far as Evergrey goes, they surprised me. I didn't think they were headliner calibre when I saw them in September, and they were awesome. Mind you, they had a choir and string section, but they're good.

I've decided Edguys Rocket Ride annoys me. Simply because the Superheroes EP has 3 or 4 songs stronger than pretty much anything on the album

Find a way to work in Sacrifice, Catch Of The Century, Fucking With Fire, Judas At The Opera, The Spirit, Blessing In Disguise, Spooks In The Attic, Return To Tribe, Wasted Time, a shortened Asylum and Out Of Vogue in one album and you've got something to be proud of. Perhaps speeding up Superheroes may make that worthy too. NOT Trinidad :p

I love Edguy I do, but looking at the EP and the album I think they really cocked it up.

I'd agree with some of that. I'd take the RR ballad Save Me over Blessing in Disguise though. Spooks and Judas were great, and I do think that a lot of RR could have been shortened and tightened up - Wasted Time would be great if it lost a minute or more.

What are everyone's top 5 shows that they've seen? It's tough to choose, I'd say in no particular order-
Therion
Arch Enemy
Nightwish
Gamma Ray
Rage

I'm hoping the Guardian show this month will get in there.

Tempest
November 5th, 2006, 9:11 PM
I like Save Me, but much prefer a lot of Edguys stuff to it that's not made albums like Blessing and Holy Water. But yeah, I just feel that RR was poorly arranged given that they had much stronger material (Judas being a track that I feel goes up against their best, to be honest)

As for my top gigs, i've not been to many decent and i'd find it hard to order them

Fozzy is oddly my top gig so far as they were so much bloody fun. Odd really as that's up against Guardian and Ryche who I love a lot more. I think it's partly to do with this countries gay curfew rules at venues with Fozzy playing about an hour longer than the others. Ryche were my dream gig though, so it's hard to put anything up against them - Especially with Tate sounding close to his best in a time where he's sounded good, but past his peak

Alex E
November 5th, 2006, 9:22 PM
Yeah, holy water was a mistake to put there. Then again, why would someone buy the single if it had shitty material? I also remember Tobi saying that they would play material off Superheroes, even Judas. Have they been doing that lately? I wouldn't mind seeing Fozzy, it seems like they'd be a rocking good time. I've been listening more to the new Wuthering Heights. It's great for a while, but it really is a bit same-y.

Ryche didn't really do it for me live, but to be fair I don't really know much of them. Also, I was balcony and the thrown drumstick hit me painfully in the face. Guy's got an arm. I didn't even grab it, either.

Six Feet Under is hit-or-miss for me. Not the best death metal by any means, but Maximum Violence had a few catchy ones. Then I bought Bringer of Blood, and it was the most horrible piece of shit I've heard in the last several years.

I like death metal quite a bit, but it's not really something you can jump into, from my experience. It's something that I've slowly progressed to throughout the years. You'll hear something that's a little heavier than what you're used to, and you'll like it a lot, then it'll help you appreciate even heavier shit later on. Or something. Hell, I can remember when I heard Pantera, White Zombie, etc., and hated them all the first times I'd heard them, because I thought the vocals were too crazy.

I think I progressed like:

Slaughter => Alice in Chains => Metallica => (New) Anthrax => Pantera => Slayer => (Heartwork-era) Carcass => In Flames => Cradle of Filth => Cannibal Corpse => Deicide => Nasum etc. etc....

Wow, what a dumb post. My bad.

Nah, I sorta like the idea. I agree that heavy stuff does need a progression. I went (over 6 years): Metallica - Hammerfall - Nightwish - Blind Guardian - Children of Bodom - Arch Enemy - etc. Now that I think about it, I probably try to convert people too often by using inappropriately heavy stuff.

I only really got into metal in the last year. I agree that nearly everyone starts on the soft stuff, then works their way up.

I think I was just shy of 15 when I started listening to bands such as System of a Down and Trivium. They seemed REALLY heavy to me at the time. Haha.
From there I moved onto Black Sabbath and Maiden, which again seemed like a huge step up. I then went onto thrash such as Pantera and Slayer.
Then I discovered bands such as Opeth which lead me onto the REALLY heavy bands like Burzum, Emperor and Drudkh. Which is about as heavy as you can get.

So in a year and a bit I've gone from SOAD to Drudkh. Haha.

Is this the new song they played at some festival in Japan?

If so theres a clean version up on Youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snPAOzp2YOA&mode=related&search=

Personally I liked it, nice intro. The other new song was St Anger with a solo.

On how I get into Metal, basically my mate bought Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish in December 2000, I borrowed it from him, liked it, he had me listen to The Offspring - Americana, I liked that, bought Conspiracy of One by The Offspring. Kerrang TV started in about March of 2001, they played a lot of commercial Alternative stuff which I got into, e.g. Paparoach, Green Day, Sum 41.

Around the same time, I used to go round to a mates house quite a bit and play Smackdown or Fifa with him and his brother, his brother would always put his music on, and one day he put Guns N Roses - Appetite For Destruction on. I fell in love with it's general sound, and found an instant love for the guitar solo. I purchased Appetite myself, and listened to it evey day for months on end.

So basically GnR where the first band I can truly say I loved, and the first 'proper' band I got into. From GnR I then got into some of Bon Jovi's old stuff, like Slippery, and then Metallica. I remember the first time I listened to Master of Puppets, I was totally mesmerized with the style, never hearing anything like it before. From there I read up on Metallica quite a bit, and wanted to hear more Thrash Metal. I then got into Megadeth, Anthrax and Pantera. When I first heard Pantera I thought they where like the heaviest thing ever, but totally loved it.

I also checked out God Hates Us All by Slayer just after it was released, and as I was getting into Thrash, and tell the truth I hated it. I didn't get into Slayer mid 2003, after hearing Seasons in the Abyss, and then Reign In Blood. I loved both albums, and then and kept on getting into heavier and heavier thrash. I then discovered the liked of Testament, Exodus, Overkill etc.

From there my tastes haven't progressed rapidly by any means. I've gotten into a bit of Prog/Power, sort of first happend after checking out some Dream Theater about a year and a half ago, and then I got into Symphony X, Queensryche etc.

I also got big into Metalcore, mainly due to it's Thrashy influence. I love bands like Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Hatebreed, Chimara etc.

You bring up a good point for my metal adventure, Cactus. If it wasn't for GN'R getting me into hard rock, I never would've started on the nu-metal bands I listed up there. That album showed me there's much better stuff out there than the mainstream crap I was being fed.
I'm not quite sure how I skipped that in my last post, since AFD is basically the album that changed my life.

I must say it's odd how I just skipped the Metallica phase that nearly all metalheads seem to have. After listening to GN'R, Metallica are the next natural step really, but I went in a different direction. I often wonder that if I tried out Metallica before other metal bands I'd be a fan of theirs.

I think it has a lot to do with first loves, as Cactus said. Granted, I'm way more obsessed with GN'R than most people (I even set up a fansite recently - GNRForever.co.uk), but I can understand why people forever love the band that changed their perspective on music. Love them or hate them, you've got to admit that they're an extremely influencial band to most who listen to them.

Man, conversations always get around to GN'R sooner or later with me around. :$

Yeah I never forget my first loves, I don't get how anybody can really, friends of mine just seem to forget and move on, I remember and move on with fond memories. This happens with everything I'm into really, I love my first wrestling PPV to this day, love childhood TV shows (Transformers :D) and love the music that influenced who I am today.

Appetite for Destruction, Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood are the albums that kinda define me as a person. As sad and as weird as that sounds, I think we all have albums that can be thought of in that way.......

Pete Cash

I liked it, it is difficult to tell how anything will sound because of the mix being a pile of shit because it is live (and a bootleg at that).

It is as close to thrash as they have been in years. Power Chords mixed with fast tremolo picking (I am not sure if that is EXACTLY what I would call it, but it is power chords mixed with individual notes which is what Thrash metal is basically) two solos, I MEAN TWO SOLOS.

It has potential.

What sucks is Hetfield being WAY to the front and the lyrics... if the WOAAAAHWOOAH YEAH part actually becomes something that is a little bit better than that (I mean basically anything will do) and his voice isn't so STANDING out... I think it could be ok.

Which is vastly better than the last song which is basically SHIT !

The song actual reminds me of the album Kill 'em all, which can only be a good thing.

As for good recent metal bands that have hit the scene in the last few years off the top of my head:
Agalloch, Ulver, Cult of Luna, Woods of Ypres, Isis, Velvet Cacoon, Winds, Sunn 0))), Drudkh etccc

Obviously there are loads more, but those are the big names that really stand out.

You can get a big chunk of these groups from (for those interested):

Love it.

I still whack on Chocolate Starfish from time to time for a good laugh. As I've got older it's struck me more and more just how bad the album is, lyrically it's just so bad it's funny. I swear Durst is generally dumb, or he wrote the album drunk. Still it deserves a lot of credit. If it wasn't for that album, me and my mates wouldn't be into a lot of the stuff we are into today.

There are a few other albums I listen to from time to time much in the same way. Rage Against the Machine's first album, which I still LOVE, Blink 182 - Enema of the State is another, which I ussually listen to with mates on a car journey or something. It seems that we listened to that album so much back in the day that we can still sing a long to more or less every word.

There where a couple of other albums I'd listen to in the same way, The Offspring - Conspiracy of One, and Dookie by Green Day, but when I took a listen to them for about the first time in a year over the summer, I just couldn't get into them, which I found kinda weird. Ah well.....

On the Nu Metal stage, I don't think I really had one. I went through the 'Kerrang' stage if you could call it that, when the TV channel started up in March 2001, but it was the more Pop Punk sort of stuff I prefered, e.g. Blink 182, Greeen Day, Sum 41, Offsrping etc, Limp Bizkit where the only Nu-Metal band I really got into.

The majority of my mates where into stuff like Disturbed, Spineshank, Ill Nino, Slipknot, Soulfly, Fear Factory, Deftones Lostprophets, SOAD etc. I just never liked any of that stuff, I thought it all sounded to samey, I didn't like the Roaring vocals, and it just bored me. Now I look back it's quite funny, as all my mates will openly admit to liking some complete crap, but I have no such embarssment as I didn't like any of it. Although saying that Lostprophets have become one of my fave bands over time.

As all the people I hung out with got into rubbish, I was getting into Guns N Roses, Metallica and Pantera :D They took a while to catch up.....

I'm liking more of the raw black metal stuff, like on Behemoth's "Rising Proudly Towards the Sky" (don't remember the album it's from). Nice vintage sound, but the production still comes through clear...doesn't really have a murky sound to it at all. 1349 also isn't too bad of a band in this respect.

I've also heard Goat Horns by Nokturnal Mortum, but I'm not completely sure what I think of that sound yet. It's definitely different, kind of endearing in a way, I guess. Too bad they're white supremacist fuckheads. :\

Cactus Lem
November 19th, 2006, 8:41 AM
Yep thats right.

I went to the Unholy Alliance in 2004 over here as well with Slayer, Slipknot, Hatebreed and Mastodon.

I'm a big fan of three of those four bands, but the sho just wasn't that great. I hadn't heard any Mastodon at that point, they'd just broken out, put on a good performance that had me sold on them alone, but they got a 20 minute set, which was nothing. Hatebreed's sound just didn't suit the size of the venue, and out of the five times I've seen Hatebreed, it remains the worst by a mile. Slayer were awesome, played a great set, but only got an hour and a quater and didn't go on last, as that place went to fucking Slipknot, who I thought sucked.

This time round it should be much better.

Good night last night, not amazing but good.

Missed Thine Eyes Bleed, and only saw Children of Bodom's last two tracks due to the District Line on the Underground having works done. Wasn't all that bothered though.

Didn't enjoy what I saw of Bodom really, but I ain't a fan anyway.

Lamb of God funnily enough where the first band I ever saw live, supporting Slayer in July 2003, and this was the first time I'd seen them since. I knew nothing about them then, but being a fan these days and hearing awesome live reports I was looking foward to seeing them. Gotta say I was a little dissapointed. I think reviews may be over hyping them as live performers really, good performance but nothing special. Insane pits at times.

In Flames had to be the most enjoyable I've seen them so far, and I was expecting that really. Seen them twice before, both times at Download, two decent performances, but by their own admission they weren't up for it at this years Download, which was understandable due to their slot and the time of day. Decent set comprised of material from most of their albums, shame we didn't get anything from Whoracle or a little more Colony :( Still a good set though.

Slayer once again where fucking awesome. I wasn't looking foward to seeing them anywhere near as much as I have done in previous years, but once the opening Drum Beat hit for Disciple something just clicked and I got a huge rush. Was going mad for the majority of the set, I never go in Mosh Pits, but I ended up in a few last night due to pure adrenaline more than anything. Another great performance, and they remain the most consistently amazing live badn I've ever seen.

I didnt really like Clayman that much actually, and Colony is the only other album of theres I dont have but I heard it wasnt that great so I didnt bother with it. Is it worth getting or just downloading?

Blasphemy!

Colony is greatness all the way through. It's pretty much the turning point in the band's sound. It's still heavier than hell, but you can see where they went from here to get to Clayman, which was, in my opinion, their first push to be accepted in the mainstream. While I'm not into them as much now, In Flames' Colony is one of the albums that I'd swear by. If you don't like this album, you don't like In Flames.

Anyone heard Mystic Force before? They're CORKERS.

Sounds like Rage For Order era Queensryche - Vocalist sounds like Tate too which is a lovely bonus

Check them out people

All it needs now is some robot vocals like Tate and they'll be set.

...I think I will draw myself a robot Geoff Tate sig

Bzzzzt love does not compute.

Yeh? Well when I heard Behind Space, I really liked it and thought Colony might actually be a good album, but reserved getting it incase it might not be that great but since you guys are giving it great reviews, I might get it now.

So theres this band that i'm obsessed with right now called "the Human Abstract". I'm really not sure what genre they fit into, but they're fantastic and i think everyone should give them a listen.

and heres their first video (and my favorite song by them) Called "Vela, together we await the storm"

I'd say it edges on the hardcore/melodic sound.
Not really a fan of that. Sounds a bit generic. 1000 other bands out there that sound the same.

I just finished listening to Operation Mindcrime 2 after realising it was criminal I hadn't yet. I really don't like it. :( My friends who said it was rather shit were right. Oh well.

I don't see how it's shit at all. It's no Mindcrime, but it never was going to be. It's a good solid album...

I was sent a promo copy of it and wasn't overly thrilled by it, but if you dig that kind of sound it's worth a listen.

I've been loving the latest efforts from Into Eternity, Mastodon, Isis and Mercenary of late, all top-notch efforts. "The Scattering Of Ashes" is particularly excellent: some of those songs are so infectious it should be illegal.

In fact (blatant plug time), if you wanna read my interview with IE's Tim Roth, enjoy-

Are you back for good now Crabby?

I blame you for the Megadeth loss. We lose by 1 vote and then you return. It's clearly you're doing.

And Nevermore's Dead Heart is their best album by a mile. Cos I say so.

No it isn't ;)

I would rate TGE as probably my second favourite metal album of all time (behind Blind Guardians IFTOS), the title track (which they played live and I screamed my face off singing along to) is one of my favourite metal tracks ever.

Also the whole album is just one fucking awesome spin. I also like Dreaming Neon Black and the remastered Enemies of Reality (which is totally rad) as much as Dead heart.

Crabby did you go to the friday or saturday show. (or both ??)

I was at the Friday night show as I went down to Canberra the next day for the last ever MFTB. A mate took some pics for the site I mentioned above, check it out if you get a chance.

"This Godless Endeavor" was my album of the year for 2005, and is their second best work in my humble little opinion. I also rate "Dreaming Neon Black" highly, but "Dead Heart" has pretty much always been my favourite and is their most consistently excellent release, which is no small statement given how incredible TGE is anyway.

oi i'm seeing maiden with trivium supporting in less than a month, what will tey play? i've heard ONE trivium song - the crusade

December 6th, 2006, 6:49 AM
They will most likely play songs from The Crusade album which is a pretty good listen. I suggest you get a copy N.E.R.F. However I did like Ascendancy slightly more. The rifts and the screams were awesome and I missed some of that sound on The Crusade but it is still a great album.

They're coming to Oz in Jan so I cant wait to see them :D

Back in 03/04 Trivium were great. Now they're just boring Metallica wannabes. I was really hyped about them supporting Maiden before the new album was released, NERF, but now I couldn't really care less.

I just want Maiden to hit stage as quickly as possible. 5 days! :hyper:

Dragonforce were fun. It makes me chuckle with how much they get away being cunts to the crowd

I was most amused when the admitted all of their songs sound the same :D

ALSO, the keyboard solo RAWKED, as did the wind machine for their hair
