Okay, so I was wrong. But they're still nothing to orgasm over.

read in an interview that after he's finisahed with the ozzfest/sabbath dates him and Glenn are gonna tour. And he mentioned that he would love to have GZR playing with them :headbang:
Now that would be one fucking show.
I've heard some tracks from "Omhwork" and they're quite good!, im up for the tour.
But im looking forward to listen for some new Sabbath music

Any of you folks going to Ozzfest? I'll be at the Boston show and it should be awesome.
I went and caught the Dirty Black Summer Tour at the CBGB a few nights back, it's a cool place despite its shitty condition and it's a shame that it looks like it'll be shutting down pretty soon.It was loads of Hardcore/Metalcore bands, with NY Hardcore band Full Blown Chaos being the highlight.Himsa were good as well, but Roadrunner favourites The Agony Scene were very, very average, sounding like a poor man's Chimaira in a lot of places.Good night overall, though.
Checked out the Sthress Tour at BB King's Blues Club as well, which is a really cool place (even if the beer is not surprisingly ridiculously over-priced).Fight Paris were pretty eh.Misery Signals were better with a solid reception and plenty of spirit fingers on display.
Darkest Hour were the best band of the night- they were more of a Lamb Of God-meets-Slayer crossed with In Flames style Thrash than the rest of the Hardcore/Metalcore stylings of the rest of the bands.Great energy, I picked up their latest album (which is produced by Devin Townsend) and a T-Shirt as well.Zao were also good if a little too monotonous.Bleeding Through don't appeal to me at all, but it was fun to watch the massive circle pits they had going.
Good night overall and I look forward to going there again tonight to see the Maiden/Priest/Sabbath tribute show that's on, seeing as Fozzy pulled out of it.Speaking of Fozzy, I've been informed via e-mail that I have my tickets for their Sydney show.Fucking yay.

That's cool Crabs, i would love to go to Ozzfest but i'll wait for the next year.
By the way im going to catch In Flames ans Trivium in concert at Toronto, but there's also another with Mudwayne/Trivium/In Flames/Shadows Fall my point is: Should i go to both? to be honest im only a fan of Trivium and In Flames, but since you say that Sahadow's Fall are so good live maybe i should...
...oh and Mudwayne sucks ass

I wanted to go to Ozzfest this year, but none of my friends wanted to go because: A: they haven't heard of most of the bands or B: they don't like metal.
I don't want to go by myself. It sucks going to concerts by yourself.

The talent, etc, is there but for some reason I'm just not excited by most of their material. I also felt that The Inner Circle put too much focus on concept, although it was well done. Good band live, I've seen them 3 or 4 times.

Do you guys know any metal instrumental bands? I quite like Ashes of the Wake by Lamb of God which is an instrumental. I'm looking for stuff similar to that. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I originally found their stuff pretty generic, but I just think they're great now.
Some more bands I'm into at the moment:
Ayreon

Pagan's Mind

Meh, Ayreon is another of those bands where I realize that they have talent, but for some reason can't get into it. The guests are varied though. As far as collaborative efforts go, I sort of liked Aina :$
I've never heard of VHC, can you describe them? I'll check them out...
Pagan's Mind is great...I can't decide whether I like Enigmatic: Calling more than the second cd, but they're both great. The guys in the band are all great, too...I have a picture of me putting hats on a passed out Stian.
Orphaned Land, as I said, is

Hard to say really, a lot of strings by the sound of things. They're in the same mould as Ayreon, Evergrey, Orphaned Land. A Combination of all of them, just download some of their stuff. I doubt you won't like them..

I have Graveyard Classics and Graveyard Classics 2, but I'm looking for an original album by them. Which album would you recommend getting first? I have Amerika the Brutal from the Uncorrupted Steel 2 compilation, and quite enjoy the song. I'm thinking of buying the album with that song on it, but what are your suggestions?

Amerika the Brutal is on Bringer of Blood, but I wouldn't recommend buying it. It's awful. It's the only CD I've bought and then sold for a long, long time. The only one besides Graveyard Classics I have is Maximum Violence, and it's ok.
Graveyard Classics is good for a laugh, especially Purple Haze and TNT. I gotta go see which ones they covered on the second disc.

I finally got around to picking up Dream Theater's Octavarium as well as the Live at Budokan DVD.
Did this as I took my girlfriend to go and buy the Harry Potter book today. It's funny how the DVD has alot of movie style angles which is strange for music dvd. Also it's quite clear in watching it, there is a distinct change is style from I&W/A to the current era. It's strange to watch them play the older songs, as there is more general song structure and less technical brilliance. (compared to now).
As for Octavium, it is the distinct DT sound, I hear some 'ryche type bits in it as well. It's clear that 'I walk beside you' is the single from the album (and some kind of generic rock type ballad). Also in production it seems that it's more of a blanket production rather than the clear ones from ToT or 6DOIT. Not by much but it's there. I'll say something later when I've listened to it more and more properly.

With their Metropolis 2000: Scenes from New York DVD there was so many different and strange fills and edits that I thought my head would explode.
Do they do audio commentry on the budokan DVD, because that was one of the cooler features on lMetropolis 2000: Scenes from New York.
I thought there was quite a bit of muse in Octavarium.

I'd have to go with Mandrake for Edguy. Or, their recently released 2 cd best of, Hall of Flames. It has nothing from Hellfire Club...it focuses mainly on Theatre of Salvation and Mandrake, as I recall. Also, if you get the chance to see Edguy live, do it...kickass show, although he spends 2 songs worth of time doing pseudo-improv standup...

I liked what I've heard of it so far. More of a raw and frantic sound than what they are now, not necessarily better, but a good change of pace.
I think I'm going to get the new Necrophagia CD sometime before I move. Sounds awesome.

Has anyone heard Chimaera? Not Chimaira, but Chimaera...two different bands, Chimaera are pretty awesome.
The Haunted, Caliban and Heaven Shall Burn are fairly new to me as well, and they're all worth a look from anyone that likes the sounds of KsE. (Particularly Caliban)
Burn the Priest is alright too, but the hidden track (at the end of 'Duane') is probably my favorite from them...pre-LoG that is.

Queensryche has two bootlegs from the new album [ Operation Mindcrime II] (average quality) on their website. I guess if the album is seen as a piece of shit, the band will be Officially over. Since this is virtually the last ditch effort from the guys to reform their career.
And am I the only one who wants DT to put out something in a classic Rush/Genesis/Yes/Floyd vein rather than the stuff they're doing today?

No I guess I'm thinking of something more funky (Pain Of Salvation's Entropia as a modern example) yet still similiar to their sound. We're not going to get anything like I&W ever again since it used to be Portnoy/Petrucci playing around while Moore/Myung used to keep the band grounded. Yet now with Moore out and Rudess in, it's more like Liquid Tension Experiment with everything going nuts.

But they're smashed to pieces by Wait For Sleep and Learning to Live. Rudess has no style, it's just flat out pace. And in a band with 2 members already like that, it detracts from the whole. Moore learns what works best and compliments everyone beautifully. Also Another Day :p
Skinheads? Who gives a damn. Though i did like Moore better with long hair rather than his shorter cut now :(

Berklee College of Music in the mid 80's.
John Petrucci, John Myung and Mike Portnoy were at Berklee College of Music. Kevin Moore was a high school band-mate of Petrucci's.
LaBrie joined after looking for vocallists in 1991.
Moore quit in 94 and Derek Sherinian joined because Rudess turned them down. Then Rudess joined after LTE and they kicked Derek out.

Six degrees is quite soft. While Train of Thought is heavy. They're almost opposites.
As for the live discs, it depends on the setlist in which you want: New York or Budokan. So is SFAM your favourite album? Seasons of Change? Then NY. Prefer Train Of Thought? Then Budokan. But it must be said most of Budokan is from ToT & 6DOIT

Ok, you can tell it is still Dane doing the vocals, but it sounds a lot better this time round. The music is better as well, as outlaw said... the mix for Enemies of Reality was pretty terrible.
It could be one to download and see if you like it first though, cause the vocals are quite present.

It's extremley heavy, vocals are amazing, phenomenal song structure, far more complex, clear signs of musical improvement and some of the best guitar solo's I've heard in a while. Up there with Trivium and AS I Lay Dying as album of the year if you ask me.

I was in Vancouver over the weekend, so I loaded up on cds I can't find in Winnipeg...
New Nevermore - To be honest, I hadn't heard more than a few songs from them, I bought it purely on recommendations. I wouldn't describe it as my favorite type of metal, but it's worthy, with some nice crunchy riffs and even some catchiness...
New Arch Enemy - I don't think it's as good as anthems, but it's still above average. After 6 songs, I find myself wishing Angie could sing cleanly just for a change, because her growls aren't even top-notch, imo.
Plus a bunch of other stuff, Conception, Kalmah, Kamelot, etc.
I don't know what happened to Winnipeg...we used to get Into Eternity once a year, but in the next 6 months we have Stratovarius, Therion, Into Eternity, Sonata Arctica, Judas Priest, and more. wtf.

Yer, both. The CM disc got me excited, but I think the best material was the first 3 or 4 songs, and went downhill after that. I hope they don't play the first chapter when I see them, it just sounds a bit empty or something. Like not enough to justify being 19 minutes.

yeah, their whole style of playing is catchy, crunchy and delicious if you only listen to 1-2 albums at a time. but if you start sitting down and listening to the whole catalogue, like I traditionally do with the bands I'm most in love with, you'll start sticking a knife in your eye and twisting it around after a couple hours.

God damn, the singer for Devil's Whorehouse can mimic Glenn Danzig really well. I don't know how I feel about him essentially stealing his vocals, but it's pretty impressive, just like a cover band that forces a second glance. Which I guess is pretty much the case.
The Immortal CD is awesome, as usual. I almost wish they'd release a song I didn't like. Perfect bastards. They're not human. :squint:
Emperor is pretty good, being the first CD of theirs I own. Boring in parts, but the really good songs make up for it (especially Curse You, All Men. Great song.)

Geez, haven't been here in ages. What's everyone been spinning of late? I've been loving the latest Nevermore, 8 Foot Sativa, Green Carnation, Nile, Vanishing Point and a few others.
Been a rush of new releases of late- the new Arch Enemy is good but lacks some direction, the new Fear Factory is largely shit and Chimaira's new one is a slight improvement on their last release.
And I never posted my Ozzfest report (from the Boston show last month), so enjoy-
Thanks to a mix up with the trains, we arrived just in time to see Arch Enemy.Very, very powerful live band and tight as hell, pity their set was over so quickly.Silent Wars,We Will Rise,Dead Eyes and Ravenous were all great.Plenty of air guitar action unsurprisingly.
I watched some of Trivium- pretty monotonous Metalcore for mine and weren't very exciting.Black Dahlia Murder fucking ruled though- their mix for the first track was shite but it improved, pity they only had time for half a dozen tracks.Energetic as hell, and the vocalist veers between the Death growls and Hardcore shouts very effectively. The pit was great for em' as well.
The Haunted were up next, and much like AE they ruled, but it was over far too quickly. The opened with Dark Intentions/Bury Your Dead, and played some stuff from rEVOLVEr, including 99,No Compromise,All Against All,etc. Good energy but their set (25 minutes) was over before they could get into full swing.
After The Haunted we had a look at the booths, etc, and went to the singing tent and met Black Dahlia Murder and The Haunted in the space of about ten minutes, and got Miasma and rEVOLVEr signed.BDM guys were great, said they're planning to head Down Under, most likely in December after their proposed Japanese visit. The Haunted were cool as well and said they were supposed to be here about four months ago but it didn't work out, and while they're keen for a return visit nothing is set yet anyway.
The signing tent was positioned close to the second stage, so I had a look at A Dozen Furies, who were average but seemed excited to be there.Bury Your Dead are huge here but I don't see the huge deal- there was little to seperate em' from the other Metalcore bands on the bill.My cousin met ADF and was stoked 'cause he adores em' for some reason.
Mastodon- All I can say is I want to see these guys play a headlining show ASAP.They were on for 35-40 minutes but it went by in a flash.Tight, enthuastic and damn heavy.Played mostly stuff from Leviathan (Megaladon, etc) and closed with the mighty Blood And Thunder.
As I Lay Dying REALLY had the crowd going- huge circle pits, these guys look like they're going to explode with their new record.Opened with Meaning In Tragedy, played a few ones from the new album as well as 94 Hours, Elegy and Forever.
KSE had one of the most brutal pits of the day. Howard Jones was a lot more energetic then when I saw em' last year and Adam D did his usual schtick.Opened with A Bid Farewell and played loads of stuff from TEOH (but surprisingly no When Darkness Falls), as well as My Last Serenade (huge sing-a-long),Numbered Days and Fixation.
Rob Zombie was entertaining if only for the two White Zombie covers they played (More Human Than Human and Supercharger Heaven).Entertaining enough, but Rob's voice was very, very ordinary.Set included Dragula and Living Dead Girl anyway.
We left Zombie during the last song and grabbed some merch.I picked up a 'Fest tour T-Shirt,a Maiden tour one, as well as The Haunted, Mastodon and The Black Dahlia Murder ones.Merch was suprisingly reasonable, unlike the food prices, which were completely ridiculous.
We then headed over to the main stage in time to see In Flames. They didn't fuck around too much seeing as they only had 25 minutes, as Anders pointed out.Setlist included Cloud Connected,Trigger,The Quiet Place,Pinball Map,Touch Of Red and My Sweet Shadow.
BLS were up next and they fucking ruled.Opened with loads of feedback before crunching in to Stoned And Drunk.Zakk's stage banter was entertaining, but not as entertaining as when he handed his guitar to the audience to hold while he leaped into the front row to play a solo during Destruction Overdrive, when some guy grabbed it and tried to run off with it. Seeing as he was surrounded by seats and loads of people (the pit area is behind all the seating on the main stage) he didn't get too far) It was hilarious, though. It didn't stop Zakk successfully doing it a few songs later, though- excellent audience interaction.Setlist also included Suicide Messiah,Fire It Up and a few others before closing with an excellent rendition of Stillborn.
Shadows Fall surprisingly worked really well on the main stage, aided by the fact that they're hometown boys.Whereas IF looked a little lost on the main stage, SF engaged the crowd effectively and received a very strong reaction with their excellent stage presence.Brian Fair's dreads are always a strangely impressive sight and his stage banter was solid without being pandering. They played mostly new stuff (but no The Power Of I And I), as well as Thoughts Without Words and Destroyer Of Senses.
Mudvayne were better than I expected, particularly due to my memories of their average BDO performance. They played the intro to Fucking Determined behind a curtain, whipping the crowd up. Hour-long set included Death Blooms,Nothing To Gein and a few others, before closing with Happy?, Not Falling and Dig. They definitely got a massive reception, despite the vocalist's cringe-worthy stage banter (fuck was used literally every second word for absolutely no reason). Also, I thought they'd ditched the makeup, etc? The bass player had good presence despite his stupid stage get-up anyway.
Even though Mudvayne were better than expected, Iron Maiden immediately proved that they were leagues ahead of the younger bands that preceded their set. They opened with Ides Of March as the intro, before revealing one of their 80's stage sets, with platforms on each side for Bruce, a huge drum riser and a video screen at the back. There was TNOTB-style artwork all over the set and it looked great. Thankfully Bruce spent the majority of the set at the front of the stage, unlike the set up of recent tours.
So they wasted little time in ripping into Wrathchild- good opener but the reception for The Trooper after it was fantastic.HUGE sing-a-long, with Bruce even dressing up in a military uniform and waving a British flag at the back of the stage. While I would rathered have heard something like Where Eagles Dare, Revelations worked well, with Bruce proving himself to be a master performer and a genius at working the crowd. It was followed with Phantom Of The Opera, which was brilliant, and Bruce's intro story was hilarious. He and the rest of the band are ridiculously energetic- they put on the perfect show in all aspects.
The next three songs in order? Run To The Hills, The Number Of The Beast and Hallowed Be Thy Name.Incredible.The crowd went ballistic, except my cousin who demonstrated that he has little taste by going to get something to eat during TNOTB (during which the large screen blazed 666 during every chorus).Bah.Awesome crowd interaction and reception, even the Mduvayne kiddies behind me were having a blast.Infectious.SCREAM FOR ME BOSTON!
This was followed by a great rant from Bruce about bands milking their legacies by touring constantly without any new releases (didn't mention any names, but use your imagination), after which he said they would have a new album out next year. This eventually led to a killer version of Iron Maiden and an apperarance from Eddie, before leaving the stage. The encore was Running Free (great fun and a massive sing-a-long) and Sanctuary, and I'm left with probably the best hour of live music I've ever witnessed.Stunned.
To say that wasn't easy to get over is an understatement. But the chance to see Black Sabbath was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. After Ozzy baited the crowd from behind a huge curtain for about ten minutes, they launched into N.I.B- my favourite Sabbath song as the opener.
Ozzy is hilarious to watch- every few songs he'd throw a bucket of water on himself (or even in to the crowd), running around like a kid, jumping up and down, clapping his hands, mooning the crowd. It must be said that their light show was awesome- perfectly suited for tracks like Fairies Wear Boots, Black Sabbath, Into The Void and War Pigs- which sounded perfect. Ozzy's voice is average these days, but fuck me can Iommi still play! The man is a god.
Setlist also included Paranoid (obviously), After Forever, Children Of The Grave and a few others in a fantastic 90-minute set. Ozzy may go a little overboard with the "I LOVE YOU!" routine, but they were amazing.Simple as that.

*Edit* Dave- you going to see Fozzy next week? I'm heading to the Sydney show with Dungeon in support, so it should be a good night. Loads of gigs coming up in the next few months- Children Of Bodom, Fantomas, Nile, Motley/Motorhead and more, plus a heap of local gigs as well.
I picked up loads of albums in the US as well, including the Queensryche box set (the artwork and packaging are shit but the music obviously rules), the Century Media 10th Anniversary set, as well as albums by the likes of Dark Tranquillity, Green Carnation, Motley Crue and other stuff pretty cheaply.

I have the new Nile. Not bad, but not anything over what they've done already. It would be a landmark album for any other death metal band, but Nile have spoiled us.
Actually, I thought Zakk Wylde thought he was in a VFW convention when I saw him live. Talking about dropping bombs on anyone who "got in our way," he sounded like he would sign up for military action as soon as he left the set. Ah, entertainers. Different yet same. Slight variation on the Edguy style but still very much in their range.
Judas sounds so much like a mix between Babylon & Glory of Rome (Avantasia). The solos have moved back 3 albums back to Theater Of Salvation, and production is of a Mandrake stage. I'll listen to it properly tomorrow.

the new Children of Bodom is decent. Again, not as good as their previous effort, but still better than most bands. Highlights are living dead beat and if you want peace...prepare for war, i'd say.
Therion was supposed to play here tonight, and the venue told us at doortime it was cancelled, the fuckers. At least I'm still seeing them in the US, so they shouldn't have border problems then.

I'm hoping it's like the King Of Fools EP, which had a few offcuts from Hellfire, I don't mind the title track or Spooks. Judas is back to their roots but it's kinda lost and doesn't really hit the mark. And ballads, blah. Unless it's a rock ballad.
Hope it's more like the first two. Then again we'll see. I still see Mandrake having more lasting appeal than hellfire, but then again this is even more poppy than Hellfire.

Well I tried every combination of what you posted in metal-archives and came up with nothing, so I guess I will have to remained puzzled at the future of metal. Of course you listed three fairly well known groups as to what they are better than.
I personally think that metal is going a bit more progressive at the moment, after we went through that period where there was a new death metal album released every 1.2 seconds and we also have a glut of power with thrash being well dead. Anyways to cut a long story short I think progressive, with extreme elements is what will be the new black so to speak, the sooner we get rid of all these metalcore groups the better.
The new Opeth for example is quite progressive (they have always been progressive I know, but it sounds more so), I don't like it, but I don't really like Opeth.
Of course what do you mean by the future of metal and do you mean in the underground or the mainstream (I hate those terms but I shall use them for lack of a better one)

If I read this about a month ago, I probably would have disagreed with you, but that was before I bought the new Nile, and it seems like their best days are gone. I think they hit their ceiling with In Their Darkened Shrines, an album they'll probably never top.
But, I guess what I mean to say is that when one of the most visible technical death metal bands starts to make CDs that don't improve or distinguish much from their previous albums, it's not a good thing.

Saw Queensryche last night, it was alright when they started on Op:Mindcrime, but the rest fell flat, and it wasn't worth $50. God, I still have like 3 concerts in the next few days. That makes something like 20 in 10 days.

Whats the new Children of Bodom album like?
Alex E
September 30th, 2005, 5:31 PM
A step down from HCD. That's not so bad, since Children of Bodom have been really quality over the 4 cds, but it was sort of disappointing at first. I believe there's one song with no solo, as well, that made me go :wtf: when it ended.
However, there are a few songs on there that I think rank with their best:
-We're not gonna fall
-Bastards of bodom
-Trashed, lost and strungout
-Living dead beat
The other 5 songs aren't entirely memorable, and the only reason I liked living dead beat is because of the great keyboards.
edit: damn, I'm all concerted out. So over 2 weeks, it's been Stratovarius twice, Apocalyptica, Angra, Symphorce, Orphaned Land twice, Manticora, Circus Maximus, Therion, Conception, Pink Cream 69, Dreamscape, Stride, Into Eternity, and Dreamquest, DC Cooper, Queensryche, and Strung Out.

I bought the Trashed, Lost, and Strungout EP, and I was hoping that the full-length album had better tracks than the title song. It's not bad, but you tend to have high expectations for CoB. :\
I just ordered Dimmu Borgir's Stormblast CD, FINALLY. I've heard it's supposed to be their best one, and I don't know why I've waited until now to get it (I have almost all of their albums).
It was either that or another Dark Funeral album, whichever one has Thy Legions Come on it. In the Sign, maybe? Eh, who cares.

I caught COB the other night, they put on a good show. Surprisingly they only played two new songs actually.
I've ahd the new Spiritual Beggars for ages, but it fucking rules. The new God Forbid is also pretty cool. Speaking of Beggars and Arch Enemy, if you want to read my interview with Sharlee D'Angelo, enjoy-

Have had it on pretty much ever since. I think I prefer Allens solo album as far as his other projects go, but it's good
But like I said to you, Allen could sing nursery rhymes and i'd love it...

The Battle was a bit too vanilla for my taste. I've listened to it all, more than once, but it's totally formulaic. If you like straight ahead songs with mostly catchy choruses, go for it. Come to think of it, I do, but I just can't get into it as much. I also liked Allen's solo stuff, there were some great tracks on it.
And it's not really a battle at all, it's not even much of a contrast between them, it's more like "Allen/Lande - Working Together". :dunno:
Plus, Allen is a much nicer guy to meet than Lande.

I just Pick up Dark Ages, The new Soulfly album. I have all four of their other Albums, and in my opinion this is their second best or maybe even tied for first with their Debut, Self titled Album. What's good about dark Ages is that Max Blends some of the old Sepultura sound into the songs which is pretty cool.
I also Think that OTEP should get a lot more respect. Even though House of Secrets only had like six actual songs on it, you still have Jihad and Sevas Tra which were both amazing albums. There is also talk of a new Album coming out sometime soon that will just be all music, not any poetry, like on House of Secrets. I am not saying that her poetry ruins the Albums, because I give OTEP a lot of credit when it comes to that. Also, she is the hottest woman in metal today, and also has the best voice. A lot of people may noe agree with me, but I really like the rap-metal style.

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=43248
NIGHTWISH mainman Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) has issued the following "open letter" to the group's singer, Tarja Turunen:
"Dear Tarja,
"It's time to choose whether the story of NIGHTWISH ends here or whether it will still continue an undetermined period of time. We've been working with this creation for 9 years and we are not ready to give up yet. NIGHTWISH is a way of life, something to live for, and we're certain we can't let it go.
"Equally certain is the fact that we cannot go on with you and Marcelo any longer. During the last year something sad happened, which I've been going over in my head every single day, morning and night. Your attitude and behavior don't go with NIGHTWISH anymore. There are characteristics I would never have believed to see in my old dear friend. People who don't talk with each other for a year do not belong in the same band.
"We are involved in an industry where the business side of things is a necessary evil and something to worry about all the time. We are also a band which has always done music from the heart, because of friendship and the music itself. The mental satisfaction should always be more important than money! Nightwish is a band, it's an emotion.
"To you, unfortunately, business, money, and things that have nothing to do with those emotions have become much more important. You feel that you have sacrificed yourself and your musical career for NIGHTWISH, rather than thinking what it has given to you. This attitude was clearly shown to me in the two things you said to me in an airplane in Toronto: 'I don't need NIGHTWISH anymore,' and 'Remember, Tuomas, that I could leave this band at any time, giving you only one day's warning in advance.'
"I can't simply write any more songs for you to sing.
"You have said yourself that you are merely a 'guest musician' in NIGHTWISH. Now that visit ends and we will continue NIGHTWISH with a new female vocalist. We're sure this is an equally big relief to you as it is for us. We have all been feeling bad long enough.
"You told us that no matter what, the next NIGHTWISH album will be your last one. However, the rest of us want to continue as long as the fire burns. So there's no sense in doing that next album with you, either.
"The four of us have been going over this situation countless times and we have realized that this is the thing we want to do in life. It's all we can do. In December 2004, in Germany, you said that you will never tour again for more than two weeks at a time. You also said that we can forget about U.S. and Australia because the fees and the sizes of venues are too small.
"In interviews I've mentioned that if Tarja leaves, that would be the end of the band. I understand that people will think this way. NIGHTWISH is, however, a scenery of my soul and I'm not ready to let go because of one person. A person who wants to focus her creativity to somewhere else, a person whose values don't match mine.
"We were never bothered by the fact that you didn't participate in writing/arranging songs, you never in 9 years came to rehearse the songs with us before going to the studio. Not the fact that while on tour you always wanted to fly, separately from us with your husband. Not the fact that you are an undisputable front image of the band. We accepted and felt OK about everything except greed, underestimating the fans, and breaking promises. It was agreed by the five of us that NIGHTWISH would be the priority in everything that we do during 2004-2005. Still so many things were more important to you. The ultimate example being the already sold-out show in Oslo, which you wanted to cancel because you needed to rehearse for your solo concerts, meet frieds and go to the movies. Those were the words Marcelo used in an e-mail explaining the cancellation. This being just one example of so many. I couldn't think of a worse way of being selfish and dismissing our fans.
"NIGHTWISH is a way of life and a job with many obligations. To each other and to the fans. With you we can't take care of those duties anymore.
"Deep within we don't know which one of you drove us to this point. Somehow Marcelo has changed you from the lovely girl you were into a diva, who doesn't think or act the way she used to. You are too sure of your irreplaceableness and status.
"It's obvious that you blame your stress and misery on us four. And you think we don't respect or listen to you. Believe us; We have always had the uppermost respect towards you as a wonderful vocalist and as a friend. And very often during the past couple of years the plans were made according to your decisions only. You were always the only one who wanted more money from the shows.
"This 'compensation and more money from everything' attitude is the fact that we are most disappointed of!
"We wish that from now on you will listen to your heart instead of Marcelo. Cultural differences combined with greed, opportunism and love is a dangerous combination. Do not wither yourself.
"This decision is not something we are especially proud of but you gave us no choice. The gap between us is too wide. And the decision is made by us four unanimously. We are beyond the point where things could be settled by talking.
"All the best for your life and career, Tuomas."
NIGHTWISH recorded the final show of their "Once" world tour — on Friday (Oct. 21) at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki — for an upcoming CD/DVD, entitled "End of an Era". "As you can imagine, the atmosphere in the arena was wild but also quite blue," the band write on their web site. "This was the ending for a one and a half year lasting 'Once' world Tour. NIGHTWISH wishes to thank everybody for an unbelievable tour. Unfortunately, the title 'End of an Era' also holds a deeper meaning."

I'm seeing Fear Factory and Strapping Young Lad in a week, so that should be a decent show. Not a huge fan of FF these days, but they play stuff all the way back to their first album, and they're great to see live, surprisingly. And I'm excited to see SYL for the first time. That should be nuts.
Anyone heard of Darkane or It Dies Today? Those are the opening acts for the show.
I also saw Bloodhound Gang last week, which actually ended up being hilarious, but that's talk for another thread. :$
I'd like to see some heavier stuff live, but I don't know if anyone I know would go with me. :\

I went and saw Electric Wizard the other niht with about 50 people there! Not really my kinda Metal but it was interesting.
I went and caught Arch Enemy again last night as well.
Got to Utopia a little over half an hour before the signing started. Had to wait a while, but that was cool. Unfortunately Angela had a *cold* and wasn't in attendance. But eh. Got two AE albums signed, as well as some Beggars and Carcass stuff done as well.
Infernal Method were cool although I found em' to be a little samey towards the end of the set. Graham Goode's a solid drummer despite the fact that he's somewhat of a tool.
Arch Enemy were very fucking enjoyable though. Opened with Nemesis, played about five songs from Doomsday from memory, as well as a couple each from Wages and Anthems, and a few older ones also.Great energy, stage presence and the sound was pretty solid for the most part. The soloing sounded fantastic and the melodies came off without a hitch, and Daniel's drum solo was enjoyable as well. Only minor complaint was that Fredrik's solo during "Ravenous" isn't as impressive as the one Chris does on record, but eh. Mosh wasn't anything brilliant but was still a lot of fun. Sharlee is a deadset unit! He looked about seven feet tall up on stage.
Headed over to the after party, didn't think the band would show up, though. Watched Inane Eminence who were cool, and then saw Daniel walked past, followed by the other three guys. I was worried about bothering em', but seeing as others were getting em' to sign stuff I quickly got the four of em' (again no Angela, Sharlee told me she was back at the hotel) to sign one of the many tour posters they had at the club, which will soon be happily plastered on to my wall! Had a brief chat with each of em, 'Sharlee in particular is a great guy.
And Mike Amott laughed when I told him I prefer the new Beggars to Doomsday Machine! Haha. Great night overall, though.
