Pulled off a bit of a coup today, with Metro Exodus becoming an exclusive for the platform.

For anybody who doesn't know, they give away a free game every two weeks. So far there's been Super Meat Boy, Edith Finch and this time Jackbox 2.

I’ve been keeping an eye on it, but haven’t installed it because I really don’t want another game launcher, but if they’re giving away games, I might take a look back into it. I’m all for more competition too and Epic seem to be pudding off Steam royally, which greatly amuses me.

I don't know how long they can feasibly keep up the free game every 2 weeks thing. It's not like they've been offering shovelware either, they are quality games.

Interesting to see this thread on reddit today after reading this post. Now I don’t know who to believe.

Tbf, epic games had a profit of like 3 billion last year off the back of a FREE game. I think once they get people hooked in with free games, they’ll make their money on the shit people do pay for.

I didnt even know Epic Games had acquired all these games. I thought all they had was Fortnite, Unreal, and Shadow Complex. I can't be bothered to invest in yet another online game store that's dividing the game library even further for consumers.
But then again, as bad as it is for us, their draw for game developers to choose their platform is the lower percentage of their sales that they have to pay Epic compared to what they have to give Steam, especially if you use the Unreal engine to make your game (which most people do).

I forget what I signed up for an epic account for before. But I often get emails saying someone is trying to log in.

you missed out on the best offering, in my opinion. first game they gave away was subnautica, which is my favorite game from last year. so, so good.

i just dont have the kind of energy as the rest of the pc community to get up in arms about this kind of shit. i do think these exclusivity tactics kinda suck and are one of the lamer ways to promote competition between services cause its very transparent desperation. epic taking way less of a cut from developers was a fantastic move and one that would probably get me to buy more of my indie titles over there. more changes to how these services usually work that trickle down benefits for the consumer and developers would have been nice to see over mega corporation pissing matches of spite.

but in the end, i cant be bothered to get worked up. im one of the apparent minority that has zero issue with multiple launchers for games. im not that OCD and my pc loads shit within seconds. i do find it funny that all of this is giving 'good guy valve' the opportunity to come out of this looking great.

Aaaand Shenmue 3 has been announced as an EGS exclusive for PC. Backers, who were promised a Steam key, are NOT PLEASED.

RuneEdge

This aint cool if people were promised Steam keys. And whats also not cool is Epic pretending that they're only doing this for the benefit of the devs, when actually they're just trying to draw people to their platform.

people that pre-ordered metro exodus on steam still got the game upon release for steam. same thing could be done for backers. but instead of waiting for some more info, and cause it's the EGS, just go to immediate outrage.

it's not even about another launcher. it's gone so far beyond that at this point into some moral battleground.

Exclusivity keep prices inflated and removes competition.

That said, I like that Epic give more money to developers. Valve could afford to give more without raising prices but, you know, fucking capitalism. :D

I have no other issue with other clients.

Epic has that many many issues since it launched, secuerity wise i refuse to use it.

There have been some brilliant free releases, but I don't think Celeste and Inside, both available for free now, will be beaten any time soon.

Celeste has only been out a year for Pete's sake and won a load of GOTY awards.

Already played Inside, but I'm definitely gonna take advantage of Celeste. Thanks for the heads up!

First this was free game every two weeks. Then it was a game every week.

Then, sometime two free games a week.

This week, I'm at a loss.

Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and Arkham Knight are all free. Three of the greatest games ever made. Oh, that's not it, Lego Batman 1, 2 and 3 are all free as well.

I mean, what?

Holy fuck.

I might have to actually start supporting in this instead of downloading their free games, huh?

Alien Isolation is good if you like survival horror stealth games where you hide from the monster a lot. It's not really my thing because I prefer shooting to hiding but I can appreciate it's a good game. It has an 81 on metacritic.

Hand of Fate 2 was alright. I think it tries to do too much at once. It's a dungeon crawler action rpg card game. Steam has very positive reviews though and it has an 80 on metacritic.
