Couple of  this week.
Nyla Rose "How long did it take you to get to 50 wins? Don't answer that" comment to Shida was pretty dumb, eh. Er, she's the FIRST to 50 wins. That was the point.
"THUDER ROSA" bellows out of the sound system. Tony Schiavone "Who's this?"
Still loving me some AEW though. A solid show. Danielson and Miro should be bloody good. Full Gear is stacked. Can't wait.

lol funny you brought up Rosa. We had been joking about how terrible AEW entrance music is and how we still have trouble figuring who the hell is who. A couple minutes later out comes Rosa and my guy said "Even the commentators don't know the entrance music!"

There wasn’t a lot between Omega and Page but what they provided was pleasing. I have to imagine there’s going to be a hot showdown next week.
Difficult to navigate transition Punk had to make between support for Moxley and promoting a match but he handled the transition well. The reasoning for not being in the tournament? Probably not as good.
Pretty good reveal/arrival of Jungle Boy during the brawl, and I’m pretty surprised Christian hit the Conchairto on Cole.
PVZ was the standout of the Inner Circle/ATT segment.
Liked the segment with MJF and Allin. The kernel of truth was there as the possible out for the match, Allin trying to do too much rather than just winning the match and that ultimately costs him. Whether that’s the finish or not, it’s going to be an emotional match.
Cody and Andrade had a good one.
Exalibur is great at what he does but he’s not good at knowing the date of Full Gear lol. He’s screwed that up at least 2-3 times haha.
Bowens had that good line about Danielson’s father in law. There weren’t going to be many scenario were you could go with that jab but they certainly manufactured a good opportunity to pull it off. I know I mentioned this during one of the early chyron’s Danielson had, but why are they reference him as just a four-time world champion?
Punk and Kingston delivered as I knew they would. The interesting part was that Punk came off somewhat cavalier and smug with his rebuttals. I think he was delivering some tough love but it certainly came off as I explained too. Regardless, it was a very good segment. Didn’t take much to build anticipation for the match but they delivered in a big way.
I’m disappointed that the aforementioned Conchairto from Wednesday was bastardized. That’s a move that really should put someone on the shelf for a bit. Instead, Cole did some selling early in the match but was more or less okay. I get commentary putting over Cole’s toughness for being out there for the match. I guess Christian’s lost his fastball with the delivery of the move lol.

Punk/Kingston segment was HOT. I really hope this feud goes on past Full Gear but I'm not sure it will. I'd like to see this morph into Punk as heel and Kingston as face. Although it's not exactly clear cut as it is anyway.
Hard to decide who my favourite is between Kingston and Miro right now. They're both on fire.
I love Danielson just wrestling everyone, all the time. But I really hope it doesn't abruptly end with an injury and he gets to keep doing it for a long time yet.
Full Gear card is shaping up really nicely. No reason why it shouldn't be another great show.

interesting the jurassic express vs. clique 6 man being falls count anywhere when they already have the inner circle match as a streetfight. wonder if they work the inner circle match as a close to the ring street fight while the 6 man ranges throughout the arena. i'd like that approach, as i'm a sucker for arena brawls.

As far as a purpose? I might not like him but he's one of the bigger draws in MMA. I mean, what purpose does Hook serve in AEW? They don't have enough twinks as it is so they have to add Hook? There's 2 in Jurassic Express right now. 2 too many.

Danielson/Romero was a good one and a nice match to have as the opener. Danielson took a break from the fresh finishers in his last match but came back around with the Tequila Sunrise this time. I thought it was a smart story to tell, with Danielson being questioned for taking this match so close to the PPV. That helps eventually tell the assumed story that Danielson would really have to fight from underneath with Miro, which is where he can really tell a good story. All things considered, I’m curious if Danielson was set to win this tournament from the jump. I still think Moxley, with character evolution, was poised to win. The CHAOS stuff mentioned before the match and in the earlier stages of it does seem especially catered to the hardest of the hardcores. I guess that’s good. It’s a better/less intricate pronouncement than when Adam Cole faced Adam Silver on Rampage and they were hammering the name “Budge” over and over.
Good beating by Lambert and Co. Page definitely needs to wear something similar to what he wore he for the street fight lol. Just too used to jeans and taped fists, so that would be an on-brand adjustment. Effective, good go-home segment for what should be a pretty lively match on Saturday.
The one thing I want to see from Anna is less thinking and more reacting. You can just see, though it’s improving, that she’s going slower because she’s thinking about what she’s going to do. Tay is a bit farther along in the development so it’s fitting she’s getting a championship shot. I’m looking forward to Thunder eventually getting another crack at it.
Uninteresting match between Bowens and Jungle Boy, but certainly interesting to see Fish attack Jungle Boy at the request of Cole. Plenty of callback references were made when Fish met up with the Superkliq. Just bring KOR over so reDRagon can be a thing and then a Era of Elite thing can happen and potentially dissolve.
PAC is really, really good. Cody with Death Triangle is a weird alliance lol but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.
AEW’s video packages are pretty good and the Page/Omega, MJF/Allin ones were extremely solid.
Felt kind of jarring to see Dynamite end with a talking segment. That does feel pretty rare. I thought the jabs between Omega and Page were solid. Feel like Page purposely wore white with the intention of getting color. It was a good shot but probably hard to beat the all-timers for color. Page definitely didn’t need fan support coming out of the segment but he probably got a bit more after the segment. Omega presenting a ruse of sincerity for the eventual sneak attack was a good touch.

I’m sure there could be some but I definitely don’t have a clue. If Okada didn’t have a match for NJPW, he’d be my guess.
Maybe I’m wrong and felt Moxley was winning the whole thing so they had to find a credible heel to step up as Page’s first defense…so Miro fits.
My hesitancy with Inner Circle is in regard to whether this is the blowoff or not. If it’s not, then they’ll probably lose here. Just not sure how much farther they want to take this. Lambert is eating a Judas Effect, though.

i do love saturday for the PPV day.
I originally wasn't going to order the show, but after watching the buy-in and then they said that MJF/Darby was going to be first, I said why not. I waste money on stupid shit all the time. That was nearly worth the price in itself. People might make a big deal about Darby losing twice in a row on PPV, but in this situation it all made sense, so I ain't mad. Now to see Kingston try to murder Punk and Miro and Bryan kill each other, and that alone should be worth it.

I do like how the normal flippy lucha style is ineffective against FTR because they're genre savvy in that regard.
One too many finisher kickouts with that Eddie tribute. and that stuffed piledriver. But I'm still enjoying the match. And a little too convoluted with that mask shit at the end, even the crowd was wtf? I'm hoping they don't pull a "it was the wrong man" to do the match again.
But, time for Bryan's chest to get turned to hamburger. :D

Ha, nevermind. HIm giving the weight belt to the fan in the crowd says different. Perhaps. Embrace the hate Cody! I'll say this about AEW. Since they normally don't do screwy finishes to their PPV or big matches, it makes the times when it looks like they're going to even more heart-stopping. The commentary dialogue throughout when the Young Bucks came out is an indicator of this. Twas a great match. And I like the subtlety at the end with everybody. About the only thing I didn't like was Callis laying there dead on the apron for like 5 minutes.
As far as pacing goes, this show does give an example of why you need concession break matches or in-ring loligags for intermission. But AEW doesn't really have that yet. I dare say that's a good problem to have, because it's not perceived as a complete clown show. Because it's inevitable, think about the build to this show and the build to Survivor Series. The show is called Full Gear, which means you are giving maximum effort. All the matches were either for titles, pride, or vengeance. I would expect a show like Survivor Series to be about surviving an onslaught for various reason to get to your goal. But that show seems like everyone is just going to work for the paycheck. Even the pride matches with the champions don't seem meaningful.

You’re totally right, the pop would of been insane and might of given the match that extra little kick but…
No one kicking out of the OWA was a big thing in NJPW, not saying most of AEW’s audience doesn’t know about it, but establishing it on US TV for quite a while is probably not a bad idea.
Also the fact that it’s probably only a matter of time before Okada and Ibushi show up in AEW. It makes sense to leave the OWA Uber protected

What up fools?
Here's the quick rundown.
-My son's friend wound up rocking a 1997/1998 Sting shirt. Prior to the show actually met Sting, Matt Hardy, Wardlow, saw Lucha Bros from a distance in the parking lot, and had a weird moment with Mark Henry.
-I was a little surprised at how they just randomly brought out Jay Lethal. People popped. I've never been a big fan of Jay Lethal post-TNA. But when you think about the fact he was the one constant in ROH for almost 10 years it was a big deal if you actually knew WHY. Let's just say that in terms of ROH, the only other arrival that would be on par or bigger would be Dem Boyz.
-I'd say the majority of the crowd was up and down in terms of energy after the first 3 matches because they seemed to go on forever. I'd say Punk/Kingston woke everyone back up. Definitely the most anticipated match for me, and literally everyone around us were praying we get more. I have a feeling it was another one and done.
-The crowd popped hard for Page winning but if you were there, a lot of fans were thinking Omega was going to win after Danielson beat God's lamest wrestler Miro. People were also shocked Superdorks lost, that was probably the highlight for me lol. I was actually pretty shocked at how small Page and Omega are. MJF and Darby Allin can't be any bigger than Rey Mysterio. Darby looked mad skinny--or maybe it was because we met Wardlow and in my head I'm like shit, this guy would be average in WWE but compared to everyone else he's Abyss in TNA next to the X division.
-Good show overall. Only my 2nd ppv ever. My first was Judgement Day 2008 which also had CM Punk, a show where I also took my then 6 year old son and we bumped into Matt Hardy (and Jeff who was just coming off a suspension and later go on to face MVP).

https://www.si.com/wrestling/2021/11/12/aew-full-gear-kenny-omega-hangman-adam-page-story
Going into it I was thinking on paper it was going to be a good show. I've only been to a handful of shows in general over the last 20 years so even the idea of seeing guys from the WWE/WCW that I hadn't seen in forever. I told my son, the last time I saw Sting he was nWo Wolfpac. We had actually missed Sting's Raw debut that happened here in Des Moines.

I'm a fan of Page I just don't know if I'm seeing him as World champion when looking at 10-20 others on the roster. To me it seems like every champion is lesser known than the previous. A guy next to me said that upcoming Dynamite was in Virginia so that kind of cemented the fact he was going to take the belt from Omega. I don't know how I felt. The 4 of us that went, nobody was thinking Page was going to win and nobody but me cared about either guy lol. The other guy my age that went didn't know anything about the last 10 years of wrestling other than CM Punk because he's a big MMA guy. So he was excited to learn JDS and Arlovski were going to be in a match.
I'll say this....The place popped but it wasn't the biggest pop of the night.

A lot of nods to Eddie Guerrero by the way. There were a few people rocking the old school memorial shirt. I will say, I totally get what Tainted was talking about with the pacing. I think the Tag Title, Falls Count Anywhere, and Women's matches all could have had some minutes shaved off and given a couple of those to Punk/Kingston. Hell, take off some time from Miro/Bryan, Inner Circle/ATT and especially Cody/Pac vs. Black/Andrade and you could maybe have even shrunk this to a 3-3.5 hour PPV which I think would have been a tighter package.
That said, I still enjoyed most of it with MJF/Darby, Punk/Kingston, and Omega/Hangman being the main highlights. Loved the Tag Title match, too, but it was dampened by the convoluted finish. Excited for Hangman's moment. Personally, I'd be fine with him getting a defense over Bryan as a way of legitimizing him before promptly losing to a mega heel like MJF or a turning Punk or something on that level, but if the matches deliver and the crowd doesn't turn, I'm fine with giving him a solidly lengthy run.
Pretty mixed on Jay Lethal. I used to love the dude when he came back to ROH and was churning out a banger of a feud with Ciampa. But the allegations about Taeler Hendrix have just made me feel icky about enjoying his work,

I don't even think you needed to add more time to Punk/Kingston. Only a couple of those matches should've been north of 15 minutes. You have to remember, that doesn't include entrances. Some of these cats were taking forever to get to the ring. Then they get to the ring and they have to pose for another 2-3 minutes. Then Justin Roberts has to introduce everyone like a bargain bin Bruce Buffer. I'm serious, by the time the women's title match was over I was thinking we were going to get matches that would lose time. Nope lol.
I did not enjoy Lethal getting the mega push. Jay Lethal and Adam Cole getting the super push that they did from ROH made me distance myself until Dalton Castle showed up. If it wasn't for Dalton Castle and some of the New Japan v. ROH shows, I would've checked out sooner than later.

If you want to talk about workers that night and I can't speak for how it looked on tv but Christian Cage was the MVP of the night for me. He was in a match that I honestly planned to leave during if I couldn't get my CM Punk shirt prior to the show. It was either that match or depending on what Tay Conti was wearing their match.
Christian just looked so smooth. I'm not saying anything everyone didn't already know but yeah even pushing 50 and the consistency in his performances....Very few men come close in this industry to Christian. Fuck the booking, I don't care if he never had a long reign in WWE as the top guy he was a fucking top guy in a tag-team 20 years ago my friends. Very hard to pull off in WWF/E, being in the same conversation as Austin, Rock, Mankind, Triple H but you're a tag-team.
Christian....MVP of the ppv, possible of the year for an AEW talent in terms of in-ring work. He's dope on the mic, when he says shit it doesn't sound as scripted as everyone else. I hope one day I can meet him and just thank him.

I just read someone on Twitter complain about the outside interference in Omega/Hangman. Which, fair enough if you preferred it wasn't part of the program. I just read someone on Twitter complain about the outside interference in Omega/Hangman. Which, fair enough if you preferred it wasn't part of the program. You're misunderstanding the booing. They were not booing like we were a bunch of idiot 5 year olds watching Occupation Era WWF. It was go away why are you doing some bullshit type booing. I think a lot of people were hoping it would've been just a straight up match, no bullshit. The over the top protection of someone like Kenny Omega has no place in any company including AEW and the fans were not playing along booing the heels-they were booing the booking.
I know, shocker, AEW fans don't always blow Tony Khan.

Kenny apparently has a shoulder injury and isn't able to lift anything. Makes the match at Full Gear just that much better. According to reddit he talks about his injuries in this video but I don't have time to watch it right now.
https://youtu.be/sGDMr_zIOtE
I'm not usually very observant, but I did think his arms/shoulders were looking a little smaller when he approached the ring at Full Gear.
A nice little break for Kenny is well overdue, it seems.

I wonder if he gets a BTE trigger from The Bucks with Cole since they don't like losers, or because they also lost their match we just get some Kenny losing his smile thing and he goes away for a while.
The smark in me would like to know what was said between Omega and Page at the end of the match but I understand Page not wanting to reveal it and it's pretty easy to guess it was something like Page saying thank you for everything and Omega saying something like you deserve it and maybe saying they love each other.
Speaking of hearing people saying things, I laughed when Jericho yelled NOW JUNIOR when JDS was late on his cue because it was kind of a double entendre.

MJF/Allin was my match of the night. Those two had a fantastic match. I was really shocked hearing so much of the crowd being behind MJF. His counter of the Code Red was marvelous. Wonderful to have the announcement of calling his shot before the match and paying it off.
Good story for Danielson/Miro. It wasn’t flashy but was very effective. Another different finish for Danielson and it worked based on the weakness of the opponent. Sudden endings do work against building anticipation for the audience but I liked it.
Punk/Kingston was really fun. I can see why people would want that match to be longer but I thought it was great at that length.
Very cool intro for Page. I thought the main event delivered as it needed to be. Nitpicking but it would have been sweet if Page kicked out of the OWA.
The show was very good but quite long. The other stuff peaked early and had too much time left, or was just okay. Weirdest thing was that finish to the tag title match.

Tag title match had a weird ending because Dax got knocked out, allegedly by Fenix who is known to work stiff, and they had to call an audible to finish the match. I need to watch it back. Reports also said Fenix had some heat for not checking on Dax after the match which if true is disappointing.

I read about the shot before watching the match. There was only one spot where I thought Fenix caught him heavy with a shot but that seemed more like towards the middle portion of the match. Maybe he just was carrying himself rather well (because it didn’t seem like he just disappeared) until things fell apart at the end, and they absolutely did fall apart lol. The idea for the finish could have been clever but it was absolutely bungled and it made things look pretty subpar.

A lot of 20 minute matches, looks like. That was the reason I didn't like watching NXT TakeOvers. Like, if it was one match in the 20 minute range fine, but 5, 6, 10 matches all that length?
I'd rather something like WrestleMania VI, where you have 15 matches but all but two were under 10 minutes. I'd rather have 10 squash matches than watch Kyle O'Reilly vs. Adam Cole or Daniel Bryan vs. Kenny Omega for 30 minuets. Ugh.
Also it seems like AEW's roster is just so huge. Are people getting lost in the shuffle? That was a criticism of WWE a year or two ago.

The only problem I have with MJF lately is that he has been leaning a little too hard into the shock and awe approach that I don't really think he had until after the Jericho feud. Leave that shit to a nobody like Max Caster. I still think MJF is dope, the problem is he's just being a little too over the top for the audience that watches him.
People laugh at the guy flipping off a little kid and then try to say "He's staying character" Well, nobody is really taking it seriously. It's kind of like Max Caster, what are they going to say next that's low brow to shock the audience? I don't think MJF needs that. It doesn't get him legit heel heat because he's doing it in front of an ultra smarky crowd. I love his parents, but it just makes it a little too cheese dick for me.

I don’t get why there’s heat in here for MJF being too cheap. Some people may call it cheap or easy which it is but then that’s what the basic definition of a what a heel is. Fuck the shades of grey, go for the low brow. He backs it up when he needs to but at the same time he doesn’t wrestle often. He’s a prize fighter too, only adds to the heat when he doesn’t do it every week. Heels brag and don’t want to fight all the time, he’s doing his job.
Sometimes there’s too many shades of grey, clear cut with him. Maybe somewhat predictable but that works with the general masses.

If you were talking a bunch of 10 year olds or fans who are completely oblivious that are our age (30-40+) sure.....But we are not idiots. 20+ years ago this kind of heat would be legit shocking, nuclear. But when you grew up watching Bubba Ray Dudley dress down a mother and daughter when even the ECW marks didn't know what to think was real---it's hard to look beyond what MJF does sometimes.
Cheap heat isn't always good. Personally, I just don't think it comes across as natural as some of his other material. So a lot of what you're talking about is perfectly fine when it comes to him being the prizefighter, being braggadocios....but sometimes certain heels don't need that. Paige didn't need to shit on Reid Flair, Orton didn't need to shit on Eddie Guerrero, MJF shitting on Pillman Jr's mom--not really negative to that she has it coming lol. But the low hanging fruit jabs about his dad, I guess they were bound to be made and look what it's done for neither of them lol.

Judging from how it comes across on TV, it is still working so why does he feel the need to change it? Maybe not all the live crowds are entirely smarky.
He could put more thought into it I guess, but as long as he is getting the generally desired reaction which he is then why would he need to change it up?
The straight-forward low brow is sometimes better that than guys like cool heel HHH trying to break the fourth wall “Oh Cena pumps up his Reeboks. Five moves of doom!” lol. Though I did sort of titter at Punk a little bit but again shades of grey, is he supposed to be heel or face? Make it clear.

To be honest dude and I’m not the first to say this but you are hard to read yourself over whether you are positive or you just love to jump on folks that are being too positive over AEW.
I was simply making a point that MJF while he does go for cheap, in general he hasn’t taken real life worked shoots like other guys have. He shoots on family but he’s not “behind the curtain backstage secrets” so far like other guys have.
Bottom line is what he’s doing is working. Why does he need to change?

I'm not acting like it's a big deal at all. It was mentioned that when he goes for the cheap heat it's lame, and I agreed.
This isn't a SUPPOSEDLY over-smarky audience. It IS a over-smarky audience and that's the charm of AEW. That's why my main man Kojima can show up and get a Road Warriors pop. You think if Kojima showed up on Monday Night Raw that audience would react the same as an AEW audience?
Let me put it to you this way. When Excalibur is bringing up shit that happened in Germany 10 years ago with Malakai Black or he says that Ever Rise and The Young Bucks have a history from PWG years ago....Who the fuck is going to know that shit? When Kingston is out there name dropping Homicide and calling Cesaro "Claudio", what random fan is picking up on that? None.
But going back to MJF....I can't stress enough how much of a fan I am of his which is why I'm saying, to me, the shit that don't work is the "Darby Allin it should've been you instead of your dead uncle!" He doesn't do it a lot, and when he does I'm sure some people dig it but for me it's overkill.

Really enjoyed how Danielson and Page created animosity and purpose right from the jump. The jabs they took at each other were fun. Danielson getting booed at the mere callback to Wrestlemania was funny. The fact we saw what we saw with Danielson still convinces me that Moxley was poised to win that tournament and turn heel along the way. Danielson is a lot of things and being smart is one of them. Page is a beloved babyface and Danielson is essentially that since he appeared in AEW. Problem is, you're not doing any favors for the new champ if Danielson is just fighting for the championship and doing so respectfully, thus splitting the audience in half. While not a champion, everyone and their mother knows Danielson is one of the best in the world, has won more world championships than the company wants to acknowledge lol and can work the crowd like very few can. He just wants to show this new audience what he's made of and he doesn't think Page is on his level. For Page, he's at a new high with his confidence, but he still has more to prove. Danielson running through the Dark Order to get to Page will help everyone.
Omega showing sincerity while congratulating Page was a nice touch. His soul might be nearly dead but he still had some warmth there for his old friend. Nice little tease of a divide as Cole thought Omega was telling him to hold down the fort but Omega was telling that to the Bucks.
MJF's promo from Saturday was on point. The stuff centered around MJF has been about that he can talk with the best of them but he showed he can work just as well when the bell rings, and that flips the script because he's able to prove that he's legit. Of course the rub comes because he cheated to win but that doesn't change the fact he had a classic with Allin. We've been waiting for Punk to get some stuff to seek his teeth into. We had a sprint with Kingston and it appears where getting something more substantial with MJF. I do like the contrast within the show with the confrontations. Danielson went aggressive with Page and the Dark Order, Punk was sly and coy with MJF.
