"Tony and I talked about a couple of things. We had talked about 'The Final Countdown,' but that was way too expensive," he said. "I hate talking business stuff when I don't exactly know what it was, but it wasn't just the amount of money. They would only let [AEW] play it like 20 times a year or something like that. For several $100,000 you can play 'Final Countdown' 20 times a year. That doesn't work for us.

"I had kind of wanted something a bit different, so I reached out to my friend, Elliott Taylor, and said 'Hey, here's an idea. But I don't know if it's any good. Could you do something like this?' He dropped everything. I think he's done 72 hours in the studio and made the song that I come out to now, which I think he's also going to do a full-length release because it actually has like two chorus lyrics.

"I really, really liked it. And it also incorporates a chant that people would do when I was on the independents. I kind of wanted to get it in there. I would love for people to start chanting it again."

Only 20 times a year is ridiculous. I don't think he's ever going to come out to the theme with lyrics at this point. I hope they get the chant going at Arthur Ashe, I know some people are going to try.

Kenny should beat Danielson here and boom, out comes Hangman Page with Tony Khan ready to make the World title match official at their next ppv.

You know what I think WWE should start doing, every time a match gets announced they should say "Vince McMahon just put together this triple threat match..." I notice AEW has been doing that more and more lately. They don't really do the authority figure in AEW-thankfully-so obviously we get that more with WWE. I just don't really care for it. Nobody believes Adam Pearce and Sonya are putting matches together.

Murder doesn't have to be premeditated

When the expert on a subject tells you if you do x then this person will die. Then you do x and that person dies. You have murdered that person.

1. a. The most heinous kind of criminal homicide; also, an instance of this. In English (also Sc. and U.S.) Law, defined as the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought; often more explicitly wilful murder.

mass noun
1The unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another.

Ignorance not malice. Manslaughter.

Interview with Minoru Suzuki

–It’s a thrill for the fans over in the US to see a legend like yourself in the flesh.

Suzuki: Hmm. I appreciate the thought, but the word ‘legend’ is for the has-beens. I’m still alive.

–My apologies. There’s no arguing that you’re still very much active and at the top.

Suzuki: Whether you’re in Japan or anywhere else, don’t treat me like one of those ‘legends’. When it comes to my speed in the ring, how hard I train, the way I put my body together, I’m the measure of anyone 20, 30 years younger than me. But some people want to put me on that legend pedestal. Well, I’m kicking that pedestal down and smashing you over the head with it. You don’t get to choose for me.

–You want to make it very clear that you’re very much alive and active.

Suzuki: Never lump me in with that kind of wrestler. They’re from the past, they’re done, and I’m nowhere near finished yet.
...
Suzuki: Well, GCW have a few different brands, and Josh and Riddle were in Bloodsport. They have lucha and deathmatch themed brands as well. Bloodsport and I have a bit of a casual relationship.

–Casual?

Suzuki: In 2018, it was Wrestlemania Week, and I was wrestling for another promotion. Someone from Bloodsport came over and said ‘someone’s pulled out, can you wrestle tomorrow?’ I said ‘if you can pay me right now, no problem’. And that’s how I wrestled Riddle.

What's the ETA on that secondary women's championship? I just don't see the need for one NOW. The division is not very strong and adding a secondary championship would be a little strange. You don't need a championship to make a fight interesting. They've barely made their current championship look strong as it's history is more like a troll job on mainstream wrestling fans until 2007 Diva DDS won the title.

Thunder Rosa should be at the top.

The one tangible I think is missing from AEW’s women’s division a bit is character. Britt has it in spades, Riho as the underdog has it. Nyla is the monster (and no disrespect to Vickie and great that AEW gave her a job adds nothing). Thunder Rosa, great worker but not into her character. Shida’s fucking great wrestler and great matches but meh character. Abadon has a cool as fuck character and wouldn’t have objected to her beating Shida.

Talent side by side with WWE women, probably a close run thing but they have the edge in character. AEW women’s division can only get better if they also bring in women from other promotions too with this secondary title.

Thought the stage setup was very solid. The LED ramp is a really nice touch and something they should consider keeping.

Really, really liked the fact that they opened the show they way the did. The crowd was going to be its hottest and the atmosphere was going to be electric at the start, so no better way than just to hit them hard with the big match. You could tell that was the right move with how the crowd was acting after the bell rang. Danielson also looked like he was on the verge of tears. On top of that, the crowd went nuts when they finally locked up. The match absolutely delivered on the "Dream Match" billing, and this felt like the best Omega match I've seen from him in AEW. Commentary was pretty solid throughout the match but there were some moments where they really needed to lay out because the crowd was expressing things way better than commentary could have done or actually did. Fine line to work with but not really adding drama with the time-limit situation up until just 45 seconds left was a little off to me. Regardless, it was a phenomenal match.

Crowd booed the result of the opener but quickly forgot that they gave a damn about that and cheered when Cult of Personality hit. That sold me even more that the finish there was the right way to go.

Happy Punk is just as endearing as Happy Corbin. He was happy to call out Hobbs but he clearly fears Hook lol.

MJF/Pillman Jr. was pretty good. Two birds with one stone as it gave a spotlight match for Pillman Jr. and was the needed get-right match for MJF.

To say there were palpable 'F-U Cody, I hope you get slaughtered' vibes may be an understatement lol. Good tweak to Black's gear by going to the kickboxing shorts and have the right eye red for the match. Absolutely fitting for Black to haul ass after Cody fell to the outside after the Black Mass (which was sold very well by Cody). Weird planned/unplanned fall from grace by Anderson. I tend to think that wasn't planned but the actual bump by Cody was. The body shots didn't seem like it should be that concerning of an issue for the ref but it set up the finish. Meh, but the match was good.

Nice homage, considering Sting was one of the opponents, by FTR to have nWo-inspired gear. They're just so good as a tag team and working as a tandem that's intent on cutting the ring off in half. Fun tease with the Tombstone attempt on Sting. There's obvious limitations in play when you're looking at some who is 62, but Sting looked pretty dang solid. No issues with that match and they laid it out well, and the right team won.

Britt has come a long way as a worker during her time in AEW. Major props to her for that. That said, I don't know what it was early in the match but when they were running together and transitioning along the way, they just weren't clicking or all that fluid. I think the pacing along the way could have been a bit better but I thought they did the best they could. As long as she doesn't overdo it, Britt is brilliant when it comes to looking at the right camera when she's setting something up or finishing a nice move. Probably had some momentum for a title change but I like the decision not to.

Great show as always. The Omega/Bryan match ending in a time limit draw is a great move. I would have played it up from the 5 minutes remaining for the drama from the commentary team I'm not sure if they were advising the live crowd of the time remaining which may have thrown off the crowd reaction. Better than 50/50 booking where somebody wins and loses later or a DQ ending.

Womens Tag belts should be the next belts on the horizon for the women I don't like the idea of a secondary singles womens title as they normally only have 1 womens match per dynamite. Women have been pairing off lately so it seems more likely.

Crowd was hot as hell for Bryan/Omega, great atmosphere right off the bat. Slow start but it got cooking good. That V-Trigger down the ramp was rad as hell. Kudos to all you mofos predicting the time limit draw. Kind of a fizzle of a finish but it works for a rematch and when you immediately go to Punk, the sour taste is washed out quick.

Punk promo was fine enough. Punk/Hobbs is the only match I want to see from Rampage so I'm not sure if I'll be bothering.

MJF/BPJ was alright. MJF is a damn good heel. I can't back a guy that looks as goofy as BPJ.

Cody/Black was very good. Crowd was very pro-Black, anti-Cody and it seemed like maybe sewing seeds for a double-turn at the finish with Cody swatting off the ref? Maybe I'm off as I don't watch regularly. I didn't even catch that Black used black mist, I thought it was a thumb to the eye 'cuz it was so fast and there was no replay. Seems like Arn fell off the apron early or accidentally before the planned fall?

Tag team match was really good. Sting was in there and did a lot more than i expected. I really dig his pairing with Darby, seems like it works and they've got a cool vibe about them. That Coffin Drop at the end was gnarly.

Really enjoyed the main event a lot. Was really hoping Ruby would take it and it seemed like maybe it would happen but sadly, not tonight, though she looked a beast in the process and got to kick out of a lot of big shit. She needs a posse to balance the numbers...dare I say a squad? Hm. Get Abadon on your team, Ruby.

Melly was also watching with me and is open to giving AEW a look here and there, so we'll probably be popping it on more often going forward when there's a card that looks appealing.

He tried to swing around the ring post and as soon as I saw him doing it I was like oh no he's going to fall. He should have just gotten off the apron, walked around the post, and gotten back on the apron. Or just have Cody go check on him after he falls and you don't even need him to get back up on the apron for the bump.

On second thought..

I'll be curious to see how BPJ moves forward. I thought there could have been some more there from the match. Will be interesting to see if there's more of an evolution of his character after this.

I was a little more confused based on the finish with Black/Cody. Black emphatically beat him in the first match up and used the mist and a rollup for this one. More of these two together is fine, and it will be intriguing to see how they work with how the crowd is going to associate the two of them.

Bryan and Omega was outstanding! Bryan taking a Dragon Suplex on the ramp in his first match? No wasted movement and everything had a purpose. Bryan is so good at selling, I wasn't sure if he was really hurt. His right arm did seem to be bothering him after the belly to belly off the turnbuckle, so hopefully it's not too serious. I remember reading when he came back from his retirement that he didn't have full use of one of his arms, or his strength had diminished (or something to that effect). I don't know if this was an example of that since the match was so intense.

Malakai Black is so damn good. He's so smooth in the ring and works his martial arts background into his move set perfectly. I can't wait to see Black mix it up with the rest of the roster.

He tried to swing around the ring post and as soon as I saw him doing it I was like oh no he's going to fall. He should have just gotten off the apron, walked around the post, and gotten back on the apron. Or just have Cody go check on him after he falls and you don't even need him to get back up on the apron for the bump.

I actually think Arn falling played into the spot even more. Him being knocked loopy makes more sense as to why he'd get up on the apron like that. Felt less contrived.

All Elite Wrestling (AEW (https://variety.com/t/aew/)) has officially set the date for “Dynamite’s” move to TBS (https://variety.com/t/tbs/).The pro wrestling promotion’s flagship weekly series will move from TNT (https://variety.com/t/tnt/) to TBS on January 5, 2022. Until then, new episodes will continue to air weekly on TNT Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
However, the recently launched sister show “AEW: Rampage” will remain on TNT instead of moving to TBS as originally planned. “Rampage” debuted on TNT on Aug. 13 and airs weekly on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
AEW has proven to be a strong ratings draw for the Turner networks, with “AEW:Dynamite” ranking as the number one show on cable in the key adults 18-49 demographic for the past four Wednesdays in a row. Ratings data for the most recent episode of “Dynamite” that aired on Sept. 22 are not available at the time of this publishing, but the show did barely edge out WWE’s “Monday Night Raw” in the key demo last week. “Dynamite” finished its two hour broadcast with a 0.44 rating in the demo, while the three-hour “Raw” did a 0.43.

Bryan Danielson on his white nip t shirt.

“That’s been an intentional thing on my part. Not wearing a merchandise shirt, not wearing a Bryan Danielson shirt. Not that I won’t in the future, but the idea is to strip everything down and see if what I present and what I do is enough. And I think it is. I’m at a point in my career where I really want to challenge myself. If I wasn’t already known to people, could I come in and get massively over? I think about that a lot. I also try to simplify my life. The older I get, the less I need. A plain white T-shirt is exactly that in its most abstract form.”

Interesting bit:

“And I just knew this was right. I remember watching a random Dynamite, and Cody [Rhodes] was wrestling Penta. Penta was standing on the top rope, and Cody did a springboard up to the side and then a top-rope hurricanrana. It was amazing, and my jaw just stopped. I know Cody, I rode with Cody, Cody and I are friends. At least I thought I knew him until I saw him do that. I asked myself, ‘What on Earth is going on over there?’ In my mind, I was thinking, ‘I can’t do that.’ Then I started thinking about it, and I thought, ‘Yes, I can.’ So the idea of pushing myself past comfort zones I’ve been accustomed to, that really excites me.”

Brilliant show.

I've said it before, but Justin Roberts's time updates aren't audible. Perhaps not even in the arenas either, as the commentary team didn't pick up on it either. Though obviously they shouldn't have needed them, they know the way the match is going to go. I just managed to hear Roberts say one minute left. The drama could have been greater in the last 5 minutes if they'd have gotten that right. The match and atmosphere was electric though.

Loved the tag match too. Darby is so good.

Could have gone with the title switch in the main, but no problem with Britt retaining.

I think Malakai is my favourite, after my boy Hangman, of course. Cody heel run can't be too far off and I'm all for it.

It was definitely smart booking to have Omega/Danielson go the distance. I would definitely like to see them build up a rivalry in the same vein as Christopher Daniels and AJ Styles did in TNA years ago. They're two of the best out there today and anytime we see them throw down we should automatically know, even if it's a cold match, it'll be the best match on the card for sure.

Good info from Cole in regards to the conversations with McMahon once Cole's contract extension was coming up.

Jericho and Cole both saw NXT 2.0 as a reset because NXT lost the "War" with AEW. Cole thinks guys like Ciampa and Gargano are going to be fine in NXT with this current reset because they're going to be valuable to them. Cole mentioned that the perception of NXT certainly lost steam once AEW started touring and was filling arenas while NXT was still at the CWC.

Cole talked about his last-minute decision to go to AEW and the discussion with Triple H and HBK. Both guys were supportive of Cole's decision and wished him the best.

CM Trunks is back. Hobbs showing some piss and vinegar was a good touch, and that added some needed attitude for him. I like the fact that he got to manhandle Punk a good bit, too. This was an entirely different match and style for Punk compared to Allin and Hobbs asserting his will early came across well. Adding to that, his frame and facial expression in a close-up fashion really make him looking a million bucks. No idea what commentary was talking about, trying to tell a story that Punk has had a history of neck issues that was weird. VERY scary with that hurricanrana as Hobbs got spiked. Punk won, but Hobbs was certainly elevated.

Adam Cole's entrance might be the hottest thing in wrestling right now. Sheesh. Crowd was locked in with how to work it from a participation standpoint. Did Karl Anderson get lost en route to the stadium or what? Callis and Taz seemed to be having a ton of fun in the booth during this one. Seems like Britt should be more threatened by the Bucks than Cole should be of Schiavone haha. Luchasaurus can certainly work a hot tag. Took a hell of a lot to get him down at the end. It's gotta be a matter of time until they add a Trios Championship into the mix. That said, refs seem to be awfully pointless for them other these Trios matches other than to count to 3 haha. Seems a little rushed to go to Jungle Boy vs. Cole on Wednesday, but that match is going to be straight fire.

Think I would be much more in on MOTY if Lambert wasn't involved with them. Silly cut into the second hour of the show lol. I was going to say there really wasn't a reason for the match if MOTY ended up losing, so I'm glad they went ahead and gave them the win. Can't say much positive about Paige VanZant's stuff in the ring (Shane McMahon approved those punches), but Masividal's knee on Jericho looked REALLY good. Jericho sold that perfectly.

I nearly got a headache trying to keep track of who was legal during the eight-man tag. Not really sure how HFO has helped any of the parties involved from a kayfabe perspective other than getting on TV lol.

I think Taz and Starks needed a cigarette after Miro's beatdown. Still perplexed for the usage of subtitles for Andrade speaking...English.

Just a bad night for refs, and the match between Penelope and Anna was another example. Feels like whatever that match was supposed to be was mainly cut during the commercial, and then there was just a lot going on after the match.

Kingston was in an all-out battle with his tank top lol. "Get this off me!" Certainly says something when Mox is the calmer one in a duo haha. Also hilarious that Andrade had subtitles and Suzuki spoke Japanese and had no subtitles. Good on them to magically provide young lions for Archer to wreck and uses as landing spots. What a visual going to break: Moxley being strangled over the top rope. Might as well have had Excalibur say "Will he survive? We'll find out after we take our last commercial break!" lol. The mixing was really bad for the crowd or they were just kind of gassed by the end of this, but this was fun.

Smackdown had 15 minutes of wrestling over 2 hours? And yet still the most watched wrestling show. Weird how it feels like when it's just about wrestling only a tiny % tune in. I've never understood that concept because I'm a wrestling guy first. The numbers don't lie. PPV is where you'd usually get the actual wrestling. 3-4 matches going 25 minutes doesn't draw 5-6 million a week.

Yeah, those numbers don't really mean much. People on this very board have even said the actual wrestling is their least favorite part of the show and that they skip through matches. Hell, is the highest rated RAW segment in history still that This Is Your Life bit? How much actual wrestling there is doesn't really mean anything since promos and videos and whatnot are just as important/entertaining. Counting the minutes of wrestling just seems like some weird nerd thing to do.

For fuck's sake, MSP v. Briscoe/Patterson is the #3 most watched segment. Combined with the Nitro rating they were something like 10 million people watching wrestling that night and 9 million+ were more interested in what might happen during (on paper) the shiitiest match you could dream up at the time.

Now we have some of the most incredible wrestling matches and I want to believe that the way we watch wrestling now isn't reflected in ratings for WWE, AEW, etc. But if the 18-49 demographic was/is that important I'm only 39 so 39 year olds were apparently watching the shows as well. I WISH someone had been wise enough to do a study to where you could truly see where it all went wrong so to speak. How do you go from a 9 for Pete Gas and then 22 years later you're barely getting a 1 for Kenny Omega v. Bryan Danielson, or Roman Reigns v. Finn Balor=maybe a little over 2 mill. Crazy.

It will be interesting to see what happens to ratings when Nielsen seemingly improves them next year, adding in more streaming options besides just sling.

What kills me sometimes is listening to former WCW talent talk about how standards and practices wouldn't let them be as Jerry Springer as the WWF but I'm watching 1999/2000 era Nitros and Thunders right now. There's a lot of wild shit that not even WWF would touch during that time going on in WCW. But apparently TNT took issue with certain things and I have to wonder what were they pitched by Russo, Bischoff, etc. that made them go ok, you can have General Rektion but you can't do (fill in the blank).

Still think they could've gotten a little more milage in building Cole & Jungle Boy but the match was good. I liked the counter Cole had as the Tree of Woe was getting set up. Feels like you don't see that very often. Good showing for Jungle Boy and he does more than well in these spotlight matches. I'll be curious to see when they decide to pull the trigger on him and push him higher up the card.

Danielson and Nick Jackson is obviously going to be a banger.

Anderson brought the heat and then some with his tough love to Cody.

-1 throwing the papers at Evil Uno was a very good touch. I can't imagine there's going to be a time where I like a 16-man tag but that at least ended as a heartwarming segment.

Women's tag match started a tad on the slow side but it got pretty good by the end of it. CM Bonk was present a couple of times during that match, too lol.

MJF's promo was, once again, extremely solid. Between name dropping Prichard and calling Allin a school shooter on a skateboard, he was throwing fastballs. And again, he tries to find the line and get as close to it as he can, mentioning Allin's uncle and talking about the wrong person dying in that car accident.

Pretty interesting and notable that they're running the Casino Ladder Match next week. Could lead to Hangman coming back and making things intriguing with Danielson still locked in on Omega.

That fair catch by Miro helped salvage a creative spot and probably saved Guevara from a nasty injury. Outside of that flub, they had a really fun match together and they meshed together really well with their contrasting styles. Pretty prescient of MJF to talk about the pillars of AEW and one of them got to have their moment with a big championship win. That also means two of the four pillars have gotten gold before MJF haha.

When the bar is so low to be entertained we get comments like this about Miro.....How is this guy just consistently in the worst storylines in wrestling? Ever since that Dolph feud where his wife tweeted about how in real life they were engaged. What can you expect, he married her for her looks not her passion for Christ or intelligence. This is the same person who said there should be a clause in your contract where you can't be fired.

Damn good Dynamite.

- Hot opener in Cole vs. Jungle Boy. Adam Cole is so not my kind of wrestler but he's coming across like a real star at the moment. Very much enjoyed Punk referencing the "Lloyd's of London" insurance policy.
- Cody's getting a lot of heat. Really looking forward to this turn. He's felt out of place as a babyface for some time. Dante Martin is just ridiculous. Sydal & Dante have become quite a popular team so it will be interesting to see if they just disband and go back to Top Flight when the other brother comes back.
- Good to see Bear Country on Dynamite.
- Dark Order tag was good wholesome fun. Nice tribute.
- Lio Rush back again from his latest retirement. Remains to be seen if he'll wrestle I guess. He was doing a really cool gimmick when I saw a match of his at Wrestlemania weekend this year. Good pick up anyway, he's a talented guy.
- Wonder where the four women involved in the tag match go from here. Could well be the ones going for the new midcard belt.
- MJF/Allin is an exciting feud. Feel like this should go on for a while and whoever comes out on top should challenge for the big one.
- Felt like Sammy was very suddenly thrust into a programme with Miro but it was a really good match and I think he is the right man to dethrone the Redeemer. Hope the feud continues.

Wrestling being fun again is still such a novelty.

Definitely agree that I want punk involved in something more consequential. This feels like more of AEWs flaw of having a hard time appropriately capitalizing off of momentum. He should already be working a hot program, the kind of feud that people were thinking “wouldn’t it be amazing if punk came back and worked with X” for years. Of course it’s only been three weeks since his first match back but still, I think there’s a lot to be said for really striking when the iron is hot rather than having punk coast on commentary and wrestling a low carder in Hobbes

Psycho666Soldier
September 30th, 2021, 8:44 AM
I think having Punk wrestle Hobbs was a perfectly fine way of transitioning from the Darby feud. The crowd is hot for him anyway, so put him with another act that's over enough and let him elevate them. The problem I have is they should have followed up last night. Either have him move on to the next or have Team Taz come out to heat things up again and transition into a feud with Ricky Starks where they're properly trading promos and getting real.

Only reason I'm not as upset about it is I think last night's episode was really good. But they should have at least hinted at him moving on to something else instead of just chillin' on commentary.
