I can't be any more specific for you, Badger. You can read it again later and not be offended.
Morrison, what don't you like? Baron Corbin?
Okay quote my posts about Kofi and what this has to do with this.
More offended about the stoned comment which was completely out of left field.

Why? Will you agee that Kofi sucks?

No I don’t agree with anything you have said because I fail to see how Kofi is relevant to this discussion in any way whatsoever.
Btw I love Kofi. Seems like you need more power of positivity.

Well, like I said, work ethic means nothing to you, Badge.

You’re right, must train harder to be a wrestler.
Damn my work ethic.

i'm a fan of moxley's overall. i like his character and most of his promos, he feels like a big star, i really respect him walking away from easy money in WWE to do something self fulfilling. so i'm a fan of his for sure. but i'm really not too high on his wrestling. he works comically light. his strikes are downright awful most of the time to be honest. his style is, or at least can be often, kind of like a soulless pantomime of hard-hitting NJPW style ~8 years ago, but without the actual hard hitting and without the genuine fire. i cut him slack on his flaws because i like him overall and he's a major asset to AEW but the flaws are there for sure.

Moxley is one of the better parts of AEW. He and Black are the two main reasons I tune in.

Better character than worker is fair. Solid worker though.
I think the Omega street fight early on is my favourite Moxley match so far.

Mox's match with Karl Anderson was a breath of fresh air, more of this Mox please. His Texas death match w/ Archer should be ok, but I'm fatigued from all the hardcore stuff.

i'm definitely tired of stunt-heavy hardcore stuff. give me a brawl where they just punch and kick each other, bite each other, and bleed buckets. no table spots or goofy weapons.

That's one of my worries with Moxley. I think all of the extra bells and whistles needs to be more of an attraction for the PPVs. I get they are back on the road but just let the guy scrap, he's pretty good at it despite whatever his "work ethic" supposedly is

I'm going to start out by saying Jon Moxley/Dean Ambrose has been one of my top 2 favorites in wrestling for several years now.
With that said, look how fucking triggered people get in this thread.

People asking if you're stoned is a common question when someone is trying to give you the benefit of the doubt for saying something really, really stupid. Not exactly out of left field unless you have some rep of being a big pothead that I'm unaware of.
what in the fuck are you talking about.
So dramatic.

Nick Gage just makes me nervous. He was supposed to wrestle Low Ki last year before the shutdown hit and I wanted to see that -- I mean, Low Ki has no reason to fear a pizza-cutter, right?
Jericho is a legit tough guy though and it should be interesting to see those two work, but I'd rather not look forward to whatever Gage has planned, redemption-story or not. Return of The Painmaker seems like the smart way to go. Hopefully it's a squash.

New Jack was a very singular type of wrestler. When they made Jack, they broke the mold. And every death match idiot that's ever come after him has tried to match what Jack was. And they fail.
New Jack was a lunatic bounty hunter with 4 justifiable homicides under his belt who just so happened to stumble his way into a company where their booker was insane enough to make him a featured player. And that was after a different kind of lunatic put Jack's life on the line by making him a heel in a deeply racist, Southern territory.
Nick Gage wishes he could be New Jack. But New Jack wrestled major stars on pay-per-view. Nick Gage is a cocaine addict who robbed a bank.

I can't hate on the premise. It's the reason why Hogan, Savage, Hall, Nash, etc. jumped ship to WCW. More guaranteed money for half the dates. And guys like Daniel Bryan and CM Punk have in some respects earned that spot. Just like in TNA--Dixie was willing to pay Sting 7 figures a year to work 10-15 dates. Did it do them any good? Of course not. TNA at one point had a crazy deep roster of legends, new talent, etc. and it didn't really do much.

Are ratings even accurate? DVR, YouTube views, streaming apps etc. have to be factored in no? I feel like watching live on cable might be the minority way of watching these days.
Fuck no. It's just unfortunately an outdated way a lot of us fans still gauge the popularity of wrestling.
Let's put it this way. WWE have record low ratings for Raw, but they still continue to make more money each year than the year prior. They make more money now, inflation factored in and everything, than when Hogan, Rock, Austin, etc. were on top. When WWE were getting 7-8's in the ratings, they were making maybe a 5th of what they make now.
For example, I rarely watch AEW live. My best friend DVR's it. Raw-SD-NXT, we watch those on Hulu the following day. This past week's Raw was the first Raw I have watched live in a long, long time and fuck me I was pissed lol. It sucked. I know people who watch these promotions youtube whether that's clips or the entire show getting uploaded like AEW will do in segments. You might have missed Pockets and Stingk baby kicking each other last night, hop on Instagram people have all the highs and lows right there.
But they do matter in the sense that again, it gives people an outdated way of gauging the popularity of something. The thing is, WWE operates on a completely different level than AEW and everyone else. How many international tv deals does AEW have in comparison to WWE?

Uhh, have you seen Gage wrestle? Deathmatch wrestlers have evolved into hybrid types who can actually wrestle, but Gage is still Gage (he's not exactly what you call athletic). He'd be lucky to get a one-night jobber's slot in WWE.
He made a name for himself being a pretty terrible wrestler, but now he's kicked heroin and gotten a serious cult following so great for him, but I could see him getting squashed, then berated by MJF (the guy he SHOULD be facing), and then, i dunno, fighting off MJF and his crew with lighttubes for a quick pop.
And I know I'm being hard on Gage for his faults, but he needs to be on his best behavior with this opportunity he's got. And I've seen him wrestle women and I know he's got good behavior in him.

Nick Gage is not a "hybrid type" who can actually wrestle though.
The question is....are fans of his truly drawn into a possible redemption story or are they just fucked up people? The biggest misconception about wrestling fans is that we're good people.
We cheer the heel, we boo them when they turn babyface. We blame it on bad creative, but the irony in that statement......I can look in the mirror and have no issue cheering Kevin Nash powerbombing Eric Bischoff off a stage for simply asking who the 3rd man is. That's not normal behavior to applaud.
Look...people making excuses and apologizing for Nick Gage's behavior need to stop. That's his job, none of you encouraged him to do the things he's done in and out of the ring. He would tell you the same thing I would hope. He's over because a % of fans know that other fans hate that he's accepted. "Let's cheer the guy everyone thinks is a piece of shit haha!!" That's ECW-present day fanbase's MO.

That's a great question. Coming up with MDK cult is truly psychotic and probably only legal in the wrestling world AND i can't believe people are expecting him to do his thing on cable. It's really not a laughing matter.
I'm honestly feeling backed up against a wall waiting to see what he and Jericho can pull off.
I am more than happy for Gage for kicking heroin, even if he had to go through incarceration to do it (i was forced to clean up the same way and that's part of why I'M glad to be under the law). But yeah, i haven't seen him put on a good match where he actually came off as good as his opponent.
The one hope I've got going into next week's Dynamite is knowing that Gage can't possibly go any lower. He SHOULD just go in and job and be grateful for the hype he'll get going into his indy bookings.
And actually, i guess I can't see Jericho letting this kid fuck up the biggest opportunity of his career. The Painmaker should squash him and get his own gimmick over, because MDK is not good, or cute, or funny, it's depressing.
This is only like Vince bringing in Foley in that it's got some fucked up people wanting to see fucked up things.

Jericho isn't a noob to hardcore wrestling. And what Nick Gage does is easily replicated. I've been watching idiots like Nick Gage since the late 90's backyard wrestling tape trade phase.

I think there's something to be said about fans who praise workers who go into business for themselves at the expense of another person they might not like.
The Nick Gage-Arquette situation wasn't a work. When 2 wrestlers enter the ring, and one of them decides to shoot on the other under the guise that they're cool....I can't respect that. That's a big reason why I don't respect New Jack.

Gage definitely has mental health issues; I don't know why he didn't get arrested for that shit. He could be receiving treatment by now, but I haven't heard that the courts demanded it of him. I feel you, but it's a Don't hate the player, hate the game sort of thing for me.

I remember 1996 being the year that I started reading stuff on the internet plus the hotlines. Thank God wrestling mags were usually 2-3 months behind because there are several mags I have with the covers talking about Diesel and Razor are heading to WCW--Problem is, the stories were from March/April but the mag didn't drop until July lol. So by the time THE WRESTLER made it on the stands with "Diesel v. Hulk Hogan planned for Bash at the Beach", we were already deep in the Hogan turn.

That's how Moxleys debut was. I had no idea on Matt Sydal. I hoped for Ethan Page. The Tommy End/Malaki Black debut kind of happened like that too because even though I thought the lights going out was a work the first time I kept thinking about who it could possibly be for because I thought everyone had 90 day no competes. It's still not real to me for Punk and Bryan until we see them on TV even if it's "confirmed" now.

I try to be shocked even if it's something like Black's debut. Problem is, I kind of expected these dudes to show up. I wasn't shocked when Moxley showed up, a little surprised he lied saying he was going to retire but hey, Nash said the same shit back in 93 to get out of WCW so I can't hate lol.

Pretty much everywhere is saying it's official now and I would expect something to happen during their string of Chicago shows before All Out September 5th to draw more ppv numbers. September 1st is Dynamite in Chicago and September 3rd is Rampage in Chicago. I'm interested to see how this Rampage show is going to work. Will it be separate storylines just on that show or will it be carrying them over from Dynamite?

And I thought Hogan turning heel and some of the early JCW events pissed off fans with the level of garbage they hit him with. I was watching it Gage-style and just thinking damn, how did the WWE not see this guy as a top heel? I guess I always pictured him as a top tier babyface, I always thought him v. a heel Ziggler could've been HUGE. Once again I've been proved wrong.
He just took GCW to the next level. I was already thinking damn, how did they even get this guy to agree to work for them? Now I see why. Give him the ball, he can dunk it from half court.

I took the plunge last year with shaving my head and I'll never go back. I can still grow a thick head of hair, but the hairline was starting to look all jagged, so I said fuck it and just buzzed it all down...now I shave my damn head every other day cause I don't even wanna see stubble.
My wife got me this head shaver gimmick for my birthday last year and that shit is the best. Just lather up some barbasol on the dome and go to town with this shaver and VOILA, nice shiny bald head.

I hate having short hair, but then I always hated growing it out too, so I'd get a buzz cut then let it grow for 6-7 months and then get another buzz cut. But since the pandemic I've gone 20 months without a haircut because I don't have to go to an office, and I'm loving the long hair. I'm sure when I go back to the office all I'll have to do is maintain it so it looks presentable. The beard though they may not be happy with. Haven't shaved since January.

For a long time I put my clippers on 0 and buzzed my head once every other week or so. Then I started going a barbershop to have them do it and to give me an edge up every weekend. That got expensive quick so then I went back to buzzing it myself. Now I let it grow long enough to tie up and once every few months get a little trim. But the moment I see my hairline is going or I notice a bald spot on the back of my head, I'm shaving it like Hero does.

For me he's really the only option if they want to really put someone on the map. I'm not saying Kenny Omega is a household name, I'm not even saying Dean Ambrose/Jon Moxley is a household name but in the wrestling community they're huge. Adam Page is not on their level and I think AEW putting someone like Adam Page on top for awhile would be good for them. If they weren't going to go with MJF, Orange, Jungle Boy or even Darby Allin at this point then Page should be it. Ditch the Dark Order, win the title from Omega, and go into a feud with MJF. Establish these 2 men as your future.
Adam Page still lacks charisma, the Dark Order do him zero favors. I think Page just needs more time on the mic and if he's still a little rough oh well. Bret Hart's promos were pretty weak until 1996 when he just started shooting from the hip. That's why I say go right into a feud with MJF because that guy can talk and he's ready to be the man. He wasn't fully there in the Mox feud, but he's been there long enough and established himself as the top heel.

The asshole in me wants the Punk talk to fizzle out and be nothing. I've explained a few times how I'm not keen on him coming back after 7 years and offering something that is the same shit we've been seeing. Punk's routine doesn't work if everyone else on the roster does it, even if they do a very weak version of it. I'm worried his work will be lackluster. Upside is he was never super clean like Styles or Danielson so if he is a little sloppy that's out of the ordinary but again....I see a dude who was already losing a step due to injuries, he dipped into MMA for a long time, he's had an in-ring return in the rearview for a grip.
And he could easily kill all of my fears and put on some great matches at this stage in his life. I'm just preparing for the worst. More often than not when you see someone out this long, it isn't what you remember by any stretch when they do return.

Yeah, Punk is definitely about the money. That might be his downfall. Definitely the one thing AEW doesn't have to worry about is money which is the #1 thing people said would be needed to really be a factor in pro wrestling these days. Honestly, for as fucked in the head as Tony Khan is for bringing in the bank addicted drug robber Nick Gage, I give Chris Jericho at least a tiny bit of credit for playing along with the crackhead wonderfuck's little reindeer games. Jericho's at a place in his career where he literally never has to do anything he doesn't absolutely, positively want to. So The Covid Judas taking lightbulb tubes to the dome and blading for somebody who looks like every white trash scumfuck arrested on "COPS" for trying to kick down his ex-girlfriend's door while high on paint thinner and crystal meth, really meant that Jericho was all for it. And even though he looks like an angry, bloated mime cosplaying as Rob Halford from Judas Priest, Jericho went all-in. He didn't pussyfoot around. And the right guy went over. Jericho might have spewed "the mist" like a beached whale expelling bilge water from its blowhole, and the Judas Effect elbow has all the impact of a strong gust of wind, but the right guy went over.
Now give Nick Gage his $40, a baggie of weed, and a bus ticket back to Methtown, New Jersey and tell him to fuck off and never come back. We've indulged him, now its time for Jericho, as bloated and and Meatloaf-ish as he is, to get back to wrestling the grownups.

If he's taking it seriously he'll have been hitting up some wrestling school and getting hismelf into great shape and wearing the rust of.
He's only 42 so should still be able to go for another 5-10 years and the rest period might have done him good on the injury front. It's been quite a while since he even did the MMA stuff.
I think if they work it right then he should be fine match wise. He doesn't need to wrestle that often, just keep him for big matches against Omega, Bryan, Moxley, Cody, Andrade, Penta/Fenix, Miro, Black, PAC, MJF at first. Maybes a tag match with the Bucks at somepoint. I'd prob keep him away from Jericho as they had a fairly long rivalry in WWE and I don't think they'd be capable of doing much better at this point.
Then hopefully they can build up to the likes of Guevara and Starks and the like if they can establish themselves as top carders.

I don't know. He's had some serious injuries not just in wrestling but while training. He might "only" be 42 but I don't see him wrestling another 5-10 years. He was already breaking down pretty easily prior to stepping away and again, he's had injuries while training MMA and who knows what doesn't get reported.
The upside is there, but I'm preparing myself for the worst so that way I can be somewhat happy even if it's a truly shitty performance. I usually do that with my favorites. When Kevin Nash came back and worked that ladder match against Triple H I did everything I could to convince myself it was ok. It actually didn't suck but who knows that might be the low expectations I had going in lol.

Does it somewhat takeaway from the shock of CM Punk returning to wrestling with all these hints? Or are the AEW bookers smart in having their talent drop hints because of how fans are with needing to know beforehand? A lot of fans say they like being surprised, they don't. The fans that are left at least.

I disagree with the part about Punk. The last 3 years that they've been in Chicago the fans start wondering, is he coming back?? Danielson's name was also mentioned as a possible debut. THey'd sell out regardless.

How many more seats is United Center compared to where they usually run shows? Is this the biggest venue they've ever ran?

Yeah, half the arena has sold already according to Meltzer. Pretty insane.
I think Punk showing up as a shock/surprise would be cool, but there's also nothing wrong with advertising it low-key. Most of us already know the rumors. And they haven't directly said Punk will show up, so the marketing is still intriguing. There's still that small chance that this is all a troll job/red herring and something else happens.

Not sure how it was then, and this time was still kind of annoying, but not sure if it's because tickets were selling that fast or the system was confused. Past waiting in the queue, it probably took me like 10 minutes to finally purchase some decent tickets.

23,000+ seats but IDK how many they'll actually have for wrestling considering the stage, ring, etc.
Right now they're running the NOW which seats about 11,000. I mean fuck, I think AEW could sell out the United Center with the current roster.
I'm officially convinced he's coming back. Part of me thinks the Danielson talk is just talk at the moment. But I definitely think the idea that one or both could show up in Chicago is enough to sell it out.

Wintrust Arena(Revolution from last year's venue) is a roughly 10-11k capacity for comparison, whereas the United Center is 20k+. I'm pretty sure it's the biggest venue they've done so far.

Yeah I figured that the more and more WWE talent they were signing and the other established talents from various promotions coming in for one offs would have turned fans off.
Just kidding. It's not a shock that the more and more established talent that comes to AEW the more people will be interested. Storylines are pretty shit in AEW, but the variety is what really sells it for me. It's nice not to see Jon Moxley v. Kenny Omega for 3 weeks in a row and then they wrestle on the ppv, then another 3-4 weeks of Kenny v. Jon on Dynamite.

How does IP work for entrance music. Like Punks is Living Colour song and Bryan's is a classic by Wagner. So in those cases do WWE pay a fee and then IP the songs so they can only be used in WWE or can AEW pay the band/Up on them should WWE have reliquished any IP rights and be able to use them as well?
I'm taking they can't as I can't remember any wrestlers bar when WWE obtained WCWs full package going across anywhere else and using the theme tunes but for the most part WWE uses their own music people and I think WCW did to a lesser extent.
It just so happens with these two WWE didn't use their own music for the songs they are most notable for.
Would be pretty amazing if Living Colour blasted out upon return.

WWE was licensing Cult of Personality when Punk was in WWE.
AEW should be able to license Cult of Personality without issue, from what I understand. He also used it in UFC.
I think Flight of the Valkyries is actually royalty free so anyone can use it. I would like Tony Kahn to see how much The Final Countdown is though. This is the American Dragon Bryan Danielson, not Daniel Bryan.

You can come out to anything in the UFC. Something about it being live. That's why Hogan could come out to Voodoo Chile at WrestleMania but everything released has Real American. Kind of odd watching him air guitar out of synch.

It being live, that doesn't fly. Bischoff had to go through licensing for Voodoo Child, I believe he went through Hendrix's sis to get the deal done.
But UFC though, hooo boy they dodge this by a hair. So they have rights to the broadcasting, but only rights to the broadcast itself. Any RE-broadcasting or re-streamns or DVD sales etc. they will dub over other music to avoid royalty issues. It's always such a mess.

You explained it much better lol. My best friend's band was on a few of the 2008-20012 era DVDs. One time I believe they were Chuck Liddell's entrance on one of the DVD's but you could still hear DMX in the background very faintly. Their manager would send in like 4 songs and the UFC would splice them up and scatter them throughout. Pretty cool.

Page purposely knocked up his wife, all that shit so he could dedicate it to his newborn child!!
