I'm certainly no fan of Marko Stunt (not to mention many of the other AEW "originals") but you're wrong about Silver. He's really come into his own during the pandemic. He's really impressive in the ring and has connected with people organically. I expect to see him continue to blossom in front of a full crowd. He's rapidly become quite the star.
How am I wrong about John Silver? I'm not impressed with his in-ring work, his look, his mic work. That's cool that he's connected with people organically, so has Marko Stunt and a laundry list of other wrestlers I'm not a fan of. So maybe we're both wrong about Marko Stunt....?
"He's rapidly become quite the star" How so? In what way that people measure star power is this guy a star? What kind of ratings does he get? Does he have any merch? Or are we just basing this off the one time Meltzer said he got the biggest pop in a tag-team battle royal which was total bullshit.

Okay, throw in the words "I think" before "you're wrong" then. I'm impressed with him and think he's good. I fancy him as looking quite the star as of late. That's a separate thing. But the evidence that he's gotten over would be the pops he gets and overall fan response to him.

What pops? From Billy Gunn's family and Jade Cargill?
If that's what you think a star looks like that's cool. I'm not impressed at all with his work in the ring. Mainly because he literally does every move everyone else does in AEW and many do it better. I think if people are going to come here and say I'm wrong for not being a fan of John Silver you better have something better than personal taste.
If a year from now this guy is on his own killing it then that's great! Right now, in a jobber tag-team in a jobber stable that is only still around out of respect for a man who died.....Yeah I don't see it. But again, you guys are hearing massive pops whenever he comes out and he's selling a lot of John Silver merch, I think he's helped Dark Order sell a non-Brodie Lee shirt once or twice so that's an accomplishment.

Yeah, it's a silly comparison because I don't think they're being received in remotely the same way from fans. It's not as easy to remark on with the lack of proper crowds but ND wanted evidence so here's some. cagematch.net is a big database where you can comment and rate on wrestlers, matches, events etc. I think it's a good source to see how wrestling fans generally view a given worker or match
Here's the last 10 comments on John Silver
[7.0] "Silver is a good worker and a charismatic guy who found his stride in the Dark Order. Might be a bit undersized but that doesn't define him."
[8.0] "Really broke out towards the end of 2020. Just looked like a jobber when he first was in AEW. Looking at the comments he has been this good for years."
[10.0] "I LOVE this kid John Silver. Insanely entertaining and a great in-ring competitor. He shows great tag chemistry with Alex Reynolds, and is also great by himself. His biggest trait is his comedy and charisma. I love Silver."
[8.0] "knows how to work, is comfortable in ring and with himself, and really shows a knack for entertaining people."
[10.0] "Silver has gotten some huge exposure from Being The Elite, and it's done him a world of good. The guy has incredible comedic timing, and his goofy charisma is amazing. In-ring, he has a really unusual combination of assets, being a really muscular guy who only stands 5'4" and moves at a tremendous pace. Even if he only ends up doing comedy stuff, I expect him to be tremendously entertaining, and if he gets the opportunity to do more in-ring work, I expect he'll do very well there too."
[10.0] "He is one of the most underrated stars on the AEW roster. On Being the Elite, he and the Dark Order are funny."
[10.0] "John is absolutely my favorite wrestler in Dark Order. Too talented and can put on an amazing show without a doubt."
[8.0] "The Meat Man and the star of Being The Elite, even if most things happen at his expense. Solid worker on the indies, and oddly entertaining in his interactions with Mr. Brodie Lee and Evil Uno. Chili's have never had a better pitchman."
[7.0] "John Silver is a REALLY good wrestler in the ring but he's lack of charisma is a little handicap for him. Glad to see him in the Dark Order, who's a stable that I love."
[8.0] "Insanely talented and appealing on multiple levels, Silver is one of those guys who deserves to break out on a major level in the next year or so. He has star power."
and here's the last 10 comments on Marko Stunt
[1.0] "Very poor worker. He'd work better as a heel manager, as he's only effective at being irritating and bumping. Beyond that, he has no use inside the ring, with it not being his lack of size, but rather his lack of ability"
[1.0] "A completely unrealistic worker due to his size. A decent bumper but that is his ONLY redeeming quality. He's essentially dead weight on Jurassic Express, which is ironic since he weighs a few feathers."
[0.0] "For me, if we don? t include unsafe workers, Stunt is the worst wrestler in the world today. He? s a non package, he doesn? t has nothing, like literally nothing that actually good. He has no character, his wrestling skills are horrendous, he can? t talk on the microphone, he looks like a child and doesn? t even try to look legit in any way. Like for example, Saya Iida from Stardom is really small but at least she goes to the gym and her move set is believable. Stunt needs to retire if he isn? t gonna change in my opinion."
[3.0] "Assets: Plays the "mighty mouse" archetype to a "t. " His in-ring work and unique image opened the door for him to make it onto television. Is capable of holding his own as either a singles or tag/faction wrestler. - - - Flaws: Is woefully undersized for someone who is not considered a mini wrestler. Likely wouldn't be taken seriously as a heel character. May need to rely on success through tag team wrestling beyond the independent circuit to get over. - - - Career Potential: Adequate national league wrestler with some upside."
[5.0] "He sort of has charisma but then he starts to irritate you. His size makes a lot of things he does in the ring look unrealistic. Looks like he is always being carried."
[0.0] "Marko Stunt is a fail in every single category when it comes to being a professional wrestler so much so I feel embarrassed calling him one. Originally I didn't want to criticize the guy too much for living his dream but after seeing the spot he did in his "match" with Effy at GCW I no longer care about hurting his feelings. So I will concisely list all the problems that this idiot has: 1) cant wrestle 2) not only extremely short but also has a shitty physique; he looks like a child and any offense and/or kickout by him is unbelievable 3) he is not athletic enough to justify his presence in the ring considering how bigger wrestlers appear to be more athletic than him IN SUMMARY Marko Stunt is SHIT"
[2.0] "This guy used to be fun during the start of AEW , he serves his purpose in trios matches where he is the one getting rag dolled by the bigger guys and then surprises them using his speed and agility but the main problem his that his offense is not at all believable. It just does not feel impactful at all. The guy can sell marvelously but he just does not do much for me and in my opinion Jurassic express would do way better without him . I admire his passion and all but he just does not work for me."
[6.0] "The AEW version of Hornswoggle who has much better in-ring skills. He is not a very good single wrestler, but he can be a good stable member."
[2.0] "Absolutely hate when he's on my TV screen. He looks like a little kid that keeps wondering around in the ring after getting lost from his parents. I don't even think he'd be on the AEW roster if it weren't for the Jurassic Express stable. His best quality is being able to take a severe beating, which I love seeing, but he serves no purpose other than that. The 2. 0 rating is solely because the other wrestlers beat him up all the time."
[1.0] "Marko can sell well, but the entire act is a huge miss for me. He just isn't believable, and kills every segment that he's involved in. His involvement in the Jurassic Express has really dragged down the entire act, and seems superfluous."
[7.0] "I don't hate Marko Stunt. In fact, I actually enjoyed him in AEW. He's one of those few guys that could play a role of a mouse in a good way because he's always been small and he could make that weakness up with his speed, much like what Riho always does when she faces a bigger woman. He really had a way to fit perfectly as a member of the Jurassic Express."
[1.0] "Man, nothing personal against the guy but I just can't stand him in the ring. Just kills every match he's involved in, dragging everyone down to his level. I really don't mind having to suspend my disbelief for modern wrestling, but Marko's a bit too much."

I haven't watched a full AEW show since Double or Nothing but watch the clips on a Thursday and BTE, and I enjoy Silver. He's a laugh. I just hope AEW don't fall into the "over so they get a push" trap like with Orange Cassidy. It's alright being a midcarder. You can be the most over act in the company and just not fit that role. It's like Road Dogg in 1998. I don't think you'd hear many arguments that Triple H was more over at that point, but he rightfully wasn't pushed in the main event because his act didn't translate to that role. Let fun midcarders be fun midcarders. Like when people complained about Zack Ryder in 2012 - like, good on him for getting over and he deserved a spotlight on the show for that, but he clearly should have been getting kicked in by the top heels.

Dark is basically what heat used to be. Midcard guys go there to squash jobbers or low card guys. The only storylines on there will be for lower card guys like Peter Avalon, Brandon Cutler, Serpentico, Luther, dark order's lower guys. It's a fine background noise show...i mostly watch it to see new faces and hear Taz's commentary.

I wasn't even trying to make a side by side comparison of John Silver and Marko Stunt, I just used someone equally if not smaller than John Silver as way to show that yes, there are fans who appreciate what both contribute to the product.

Lucha Underground was very cool. I actually first started watching it on tv but couldn't understand the dialogue very well so when Netflix put it up I was very happy, except for the fact that I went from Hugo and Vamp to Matt Striker and Vamp.

Well, I doubt that Vince or anyone for that matter consider Christian Cage, Big Show, and Ethan Page a threat to the WWE product. People just need to stop even trying to talk about WWE v. anyone else because WWE are their own shit. When AEW or ROH or whoever have the multi-layer company that is World Wrestling Entertainment, then we can talk.
It's like thinking your local amusement park can compete with Disney World. Vince only cared when his pocket book was getting the work, now he's making more money than ever-including the peak years of pro wrestling ratings and interest-so until someone/something comes along and fucks with that, WWE are going to do what they want.
Vince and co. got out of the wrestling business when Cyndi Lauper came along. Nobody ever went to the WWF to have great matches they went for exposure. Same holds true today. IDGAF how great Kenny Omega is or how great Jungle Boy Johnson is, if you're not in the WWE, who gives a shit?

I think the first to jump from AEW to WWE will be Sammy Guevara. It might be a long while before he's considered AEW World Champion material and he might get impatient and take an offer to jump to WWE with a promise of being NXT World Champion.
And eventually once live crowds are back and he gets bored with his position in AEW Cody will jump ship for a WM World title win and run. No way he's content with there never being a Rhodes as World Champ in WWE.
I just watched the finish of the barbwire match and... Goldberg's entrance looks more dangerous.

And eventually once live crowds are back and he gets bored with his position in AEW Cody will jump ship for a WM World title win and run. No way he's content with there never being a Rhodes as World Champ in WWE.

Felt really bad for the talent with the finish. A great match though.
It may have been obvious, but was it known ahead of time that the Sting match was going to be cinematic? I mean, I know about Sting's injuries and limitations, but with him taking bumps on Dynamite, I wasn't sure.
I love Taz. I always have. Dude makes me laugh and always puts over the talent, whilst still being a heel. Tempted to watch Dark because of him, if it wasn't so damned long. Speaking of Dark, what's the difference going to be with Dark and the new Dark 'Elavation' show? It's still a YouTube show, so...
I agree that the Christian reveal was a letdown. In that how they presented it, I mean. Love Christian, but it's 2021. Tone it down a bit.

Maybes WWE don't actually care about Christian going there. They got a nice surprise entrant out of the RR out of him but what else would he do, WWEs roster is stacked and I don't they have anything near the top for him so he's probably better off in AEW.
He's also 47 year old with a lot of injury problems so hes unlikely to push AEW into the mainstream, solid hand for them and will help the youngsters get over but not really a blow for WWE.

That is likely what it is with JR. He really shouldn't have been commentating at Revolution the way his voice was but I guess money talks even if he couldn't!
However I'd have thought he'd maybe think about retiring as under the impression he's pretty financially well set.

I'm actually shocked someone that goes above and beyond to back up Vince's decisions that you automatically just assumed it was something negative on WWE's part. Carlito was in that Rumble as well. Literally every year since like the early 90's we've had people from the past show up at Rumble and they're never seen again.

I don't think they cared one bit. Vince was never a big Christian fan and being a great worker doesn't always translate into superstar main event status. I'm a huge Christian fan and I have no clue what if any plans WWE might have had for him beyond the Rumble. Like I said above though, to me it was just another throwback entrant like Jillian Hall and Carlito were. AEW has no problem picking up anyone that has been on WWE tv over the last 40 years so I'm not shocked he's going to risk his life to get a reverse frankensteiner off the top through 2 tables of sparklers.

There isn't a single company in all of wrestling that has a good English speaking announce team. There are good people in these companies don't get me wrong but the pairings are unfortunately pretty weak. In the major companies they all lack a good play by play man. My personal favorites are JR and Joey Styles, but JR's time has come and Joey isn't interested, plus we need the 90's versions.
Right now everyone is very robotic for the most part. WWE has some good people but most are in that school of Michael Cole-who doesn't totally suck as we saw in non-Vince heavy shows he's done. But ultimately what we get is pretty whack.

The ability to serve different purposes certainly helps. I know I mentioned those guys, but I was referencing more the OPs point in regards to my curiosity in which was more in the literal in-ring working sense. In that circumstance, you're adding Cage to the likes of Jericho, Sting, Hardy, and I guess to a lesser degree Hager. I disagree. I think he is knowledgeable, but he's still just alright. He's still trying to be the PWG guy but I can definitely hear improvement.
My problem with all of this talk today is that we're lead to believe that when Jim Ross spoke "negatively" about the product, nobody but Darby gave a shit. Nobody in that company was going to bat for Jim when that dork friend of the Bucks shit on him and the reports from AEW Dave and company were that a lot of people did not like what JR had to say-which wasn't even that bad!
I want to believe that a guy like Excalibur is being given advice and taking it and improving so he can be a good commentator. Sadly I think most of these guys assume they already know everything and are content with where they are. Especially if they live and die by WON awards.

I like how AEW went right into building new storylines and feuds right after the ppv. I think WWE misses the boat on doing that sometimes.
Just from last night we know of Archer/Sting, Darby/Sky, MJF's Faction vs Inner Circle, Omega/Christian, Penta/Cody, Kingston/Moxley vs Good Bros, Pac/Fenix vs Bucks.
They probably could've done without so many heel turns and face turns on the same show. Maybe save the Scorpio Sky turn for the following week. Was Penta always a heel or was last night considered his heel turn? Archer was a heel then a face now back to a heel which is what he should be.
I loved the swerve with the Inner Circle. I was expecting MJF to take over the group and turn on Jericho and Sammy but I think this is even better.

Yeah Mox and King did a good job which isn't a surprise as they're two of the best talkers in the business. The "if you're going to flash a weapon... you better use it" line was a good one.
Dynamite delivered - they've rebounded well from the PPV I'd say.
Loved the Penta/Cody and Inner Circle segments. Penta killed it. I hope he "breaks" Cody's arm and writes him off TV for a while. Everyone killed it in the final segment. I'm all for this new Horsemen faction and I'm all for the Inner Circle returning to its original form. All set for War Games I'm guessing.
Christian's appearance was a bit... oddly timed? I feel like he should be talking right off the bat, introducing himself and stating his intentions. No reason to hold off on him challenging Omega though I guess.
Archer appearing to challenge Sting could be good. Archer has to be going over. Scorpio Sky's not done anything for me so a heel turn is welcome.

There will be a poi t but I guess it depends on what they are doing backstage. Think Christian said he was also going to be training and working on production. Big Show is working on commentary, I'd imagine Jake could be working on booking/writing so if they have all.these hands in backstage roles who can also add a bit to the TV and wrestling then they aren't bad to have about.
Most other wrestling companies do this but I think the problem becomes when they are taking up the bulk of TV time and stopping the prime and future talent from getting over like on TNA. I don't think AEW has hit that spot yet but there are going to be more veterans on offer and will AEW just keep snapping them up.

It was brutal. He's what drew me in to Lucha Underground and he's the reason I started watching Impact more than I had in years. Instead of 69ing Don Callis let's have Penta "break" Brandi's pregnant arm. Afterbirth on a pole match.

Still not feelin Shawn Spears. It might be some inner jealousy that he's married to Peyton Royce or that I just never thought he was cool with his "sweet" hair designs and perfect 10 gimmick. Or his spaceman gear he used to wear.
AEW, they haven't done shit with him since the very start. Maybe this will be his Kofi Kingston moment where it all just clicks and we see what his BFF Cody Rhodes saw in him. I just don't see the need to have him-unless..........unless they turn on him and he's seen as the weak link. Seriously...you have MJF, Wardlow, and FTR with Tully as the manager. What purpose does Shawn Spears serve?

tbh i don't know how much AEW is to blame for a lot of this, because by all accounts they tend to let their roster form their own gimmicks and stuff. if anything, their relaxed attitude on roster micromanagement is probably the prime culprit.

I still have some hope for a monster push too but that fucking awful wedding segment where he was “outsmarted” by being shackled or just in general being Sabian’s sidekick who’s low on the general totem pole has made me wonder what they’re doing with him. don’t do weddings.
He’s generally won his matches but not quite in the monster way I had hoped plus with Omega/Morley et al prob will take a while.

I don’t think he necessarily needs a manager even. Dude has range, can play the monster but also in real life the most chilled guy on the planet as seen when he was on UUDD. He can definitely talk.
Poor booking on a guy can often be seen as a lazy excuse and fair enough, but he’s definitely been a victim of it and maybe even partially his own fault for going with it. He’s a gold mine being wasted....again.

Miro is easy to book. They booked him perfectly for the first year of his run in WWE. Big monster who kills everyone. I mean you can remove the evil foreigner part tbf but basically book him like that and give him more time to promo evil monster shit.
I'd have him squash anyone who wasn't main event level and then have big matches with them. I wouldn't even have him wrestle a whole bunch, maybes one big match, a squashes and a couple of promos/skits each month.
How the hell can you feature in two deplorable wedding angle in a single year for different companies as well, it was bad once, why repeat it?
I honestly skip past a lot of these segments now cause they just aren't very good but I was excited for him to make the jump.
After last week I think they have most of the roster int he right places going forward. Have Miro turn on Sabina and kill him, Sabain can either go face or of with Penelope.
Turn Cody heel, turn PAC on Fenix and have them solo after this Bucks match and your all good.

I just don't really understand how some of these former WWE talents have the balls to cry about how they were used and then they come to another promotion either doing the same thing or worse lol. Not all are like that, The Revival for example had a legit complaint, but then they were used as transitional champions so the Young Cucks could get a W over them after their twitter beef.
I also think that we as fans need to stop acting like every wrestler in the WWE had potential to be the next John Cena. Not everyone was destined to be a main eventer in this business just like everyone in Hollywood is destined to win an Oscar.

Just like not everyone at my company can be CEO, even if they wanted to be. Plus, there's so much more to a push than just saying "Hey, let's push this guy." Injuries, attitude, presentation etc. have a lot to do with it. What we see on TV may not be who that person is backstage.

Exactly. We don't know who is truly to blame for certain situations going down. Luke Harper/Brodie Lee for example. It's hard to push that guy when he was hurt all the time, same with Rowan. You start doing something, then someone gets hurt. Rusev could've been like hey, I don't want to be an 80's gimmick I want to be how you see me on Total Divas or when I'm with the boys.....
When you look at his career, all the comedy shit hasn't worked. All the "real" shit hasn't worked, like with the angle his wife took it upon herself to kill with Summer Rae and Dolph lol. They tried to bring him back with the League of Nations, but it was too late. Rusev Day....it sold shirts but by that time he was midcard at best and he wasn't happy about that. Now look...Just not my thing.

The thumbtacks was a bit too much for me, but overall an outstanding match between Rosa and Baker. This was a great way to rebound after the botched explosion in the Death Match. Also reminds me how Alvarez was saying to under promise and over deliver after some people were let down by the surprises at Revolution. I had zero expectations for the Lights Out match and it blew me away.
As much as I love Shida's work in the ring, if they don't move on from her, the division is never going to gain any steam. Has she had a single memorable feud since she's been champion? It says allot that more people are talking about Maki Itoh than the Women's champ. And now Rosa and Baker overshadowed her as well. They've got to figure something out and fast.

Yeah all that positive talk.
AEW just doesn't have the experience booking anything to begin with so give them time. The women's division is being booked by the World champion who was also the tag-team champion for the better part of a year so where is his head at when putting this stuff together?
I'll say this...Name a memorable storyline any woman in AEW has been in. Every angle has sucked and having a super cheap pop match doesn't suddenly change AEW's future as it pertains to women's wrestling. A 3 week feud ended in some shit Megumi Kudo would be proud of. It's like when WWE has a short feud lead to Hell In A Cell.
I will also say that I actually thought this match was punishment for the shit match they were in last week. They should have done a lot worse to each other for that abomination.
So people can talk about Ito all they want but they also talk about Kim Kardashian more than Elon Musk....

I think Britt Bakers storyline with Big Swole was memorable, it helped they had a cinematic match in a dentist's office which covered for Swole still being green.
The "roll model" stuff when she was in a wheelchair was gold.

768,000 vs 597,000 for NXT. Probably doesn't help NXT that their card wasn't even known til right before the show started because of a covid outbreak.

Lights Out match was terrific, especially the last 5 minutes or so. Loved the way Rosa just broke down as the pin was counted. JR's commentary though. At the end of that match he's SAYING all the right things, he just doesn't sound like he actually means any of it.

Yeah, her reaction to knowing it was finally over was awesome. Feel the same way about JR's commentary, like he was just repeating lines from Mankind/Undertaker HIAC.

Jim Ross just has to be wondering if the paycheck is actually worth it at this point lol. You can always tell when he thinks a segment or match is complete dogshit because it's so bad not even JR can make it come across spectacular. If he was over the top we'd know he wasn't being real because he's always been this way. Go watch some of the goofy shit during the late 90's early 2000's, he's clearly phoning in a lot of commentary that was centered around garbage cans and titties.

Oh yeah he sounds like he's having a blast.....There's no passion behind what he's saying and it's been that way for many many years. Tony Khan came to JR not the other way around and pays JR 6 figures to be a shell of himself.
I don't know, according to you he's having a blast repeating lines from KOTR 1998.

They all thought AEW was going to revolutionize the business, start another wrestling boom. All it's done is just provide another place for wrestler to perform for the same kind of money that WWE offers. Their fan base isn't going to grow beyond what it already is, even if they signed John Cena, Brock Lesnar, and CM Punk. The Rock may change things up, but he's too busy in Hollywood.
The same applies to WWE. Numbers are just going to stay the same regardless of what they do.

Yeah wrestling itself is too far under the radar for it to be what it was 20-30 years ago. There's no revolution, but it's been an EVOLUTION of the way we watch and how accessible other promotions are in comparison to any other time. The evolution we've seen take place over the last 10 years with promotions relying on the internet to sell their merch (shirts, DVDs, etc.) has made it easier to watch promotions you would have only read about in PWI back in the day.
In the wrestling bubble AEW has been a positive for the reasons you gave i.e. place where talent can perform for WWE type money. But anyone with a real understanding of the entity that is WWE v. the wrestling bubble knows that outside that bubble, it's really just WWE and then everyone else. Even AEW looks like WWE, most of the roster were just on WWE tv within the last year. But I've said this before, until AEW (or anyone else) are global, making movies, while also doing the wrestling thing....then AEW are in competition with the wrestling world and WWE are in competition with the entertainment world.

The final quarter saw AEW with Baker vs. Rosa gain 119,000 viewers and 59,000 in 18-49. It was also AEW’s peak in men 18-49. NXT with Lorcan & Burch defending against Balor & Kross lost 45,000 viewers and 33,000 in 18-49. But it was the NXT peak in women 18-34.

Really enjoyed Rosa v Britt, was done pretty much perfectly, well paced, not overly long, told a story. Great stuff.
Not much else of note. The ending of Penta v Cody was awful and ruined the full match.
The Pinnacle promo was Ok but forgettable, Archer v Sting/DDarby promo again did what it had to but nothing great. I can't remember anything else on it tbh.

AEW doesn't fuck around. Moxley and Kingston feuded for about 2 weeks before their payoff which of course required half of FMW's arsenal. Rosa and Britt feuded for what, a month? Fuck a steel-cage, fuck a strap match, fuck a ladder match, let's just go straight to the death match. And for what? A drop in viewership? Weak.

The feud was building for months and they picked up viewers for their segment so I don't understand what you're saying at all.
