Yes well in Fro with the thread.

Been great start to March Madness. Lots of CBB on BT Sport over here in UK from 4pm, my evening/Night/early hours of the morning sorted.

Wish I could enjoy college basketball like I used to. One and done's and march madness have ruined it for me though. The latter part is why I hate the idea of an expanded playoff in college football. College bball in the 90's was a tremendous thing.

I get the one and done's part but what do you mean about March Madness ruining it for you? The tournament has existed forever (well 64 teams since 1985 to be exact). The 4 play-in games annoy me but it's not a big deal. And the way they televise EVERY game these days is awesome.

Percussion
March 12th, 2016, 12:42 PM
Yes the tournament has been around as it has for a while, but the hype around it now days drowns out the regular season completely. The play in games add to the length and totality of the hype. And like I said it's the combination of the tournament hype and the one and done's that I think has done it in for me, not just one or the other. I know I sound all fuddy duddy about it, and I don't mean to shit on any else's parade, just voicing how it is for me and honestly saying I miss enjoying a game or two a week during the season leading up to the dance and the sport at large. Not asking anyone to agree, just for me these things have made the sport a one-off event that I'm not much up for anymore.

May be a bit tacky to wine about it as the train's starting up, but it came to mind when I saw this thread and with all the coverage on tv atm is all.

Mr. Boombastic
March 12th, 2016, 1:48 PM
Honestly, my biggest gripe with the play-in games is that they are screwing up the bracket pools, because the games start Tuesday now, most pools that I have been in just ignore them because it is too hard to get 25-30 people to fill out a bracket by Tuesday afternoon after selection Sunday.

Even though I love football much more than basketball, I'm sorry but college basketball is 10 times more fun than college football. At least everybody gets a legitimate chance to win it all. As somebody who went to a small school (Central Michigan) I honestly do not know what the point of being a Division 1-A football team is when you have no realistic chance at a national championship and the best you can hope for is an undefeated season and a trip to the Little Caesars Bowl or the BigBlackDildos.com bowl. I actually like that the regular season and postseason (conference tournaments, ncaa, nit) are like two different seasons. Its exciting as hell to see how close all these small basketball schools have come to winning it all the last 5-10 years (Butler, Wichita State, VCU, George Mason, etc).

For all the great first round upsets, it has been nothing but chalk in the second round (except Gonzaga), ugh, not looking forward to an inevitable UNC-Kansas final. Part of the reason why I prefer professional over college sports, unless you are a regional fan of the UNC, Duke, Kansas, or Kentucky's of the world (in basketball) or Alabama, Florida State, Oklahoma, or Ohio State's of the world (for football) it is just inevitable disappointment. As a resident of Michigan, I prefer the Wolverines over the Spartans, but I still enjoy seeing other midwestern teams (Big Ten in particular) succeed, but even good teams like Michigan State are just never on the same championship level as those aforementioned teams. Its like occasionally you can see an MSU, Iowa, Penn State or even like a less traditional power in the PAC12 like Oregon or Arizona they may make it to the final four or championship, but when it comes down to the finals they always just look like chumps to the powers that be. In the pros, you occasionally see a team like the Kansas City Royals or Golden State Warriors win the title, but college is just so inevitable it sucks.

Pablo Diablo
March 20th, 2016, 9:52 PM
Wisconsin came really close to winning last year and while they've always competed they're not thought of as the old guard. Butler almost beat Duke on a buzzer beater (granted it was a half court shot that just happened to be close) before Duke's previous championship. Louisville, Florida, Syracuse, Maryland and Michigan State have all been champs since the turn of the millennium.

Granted these are mostly big conference teams, but I would still say in basketball there are many teams who have realistic chances of winning it all.
