Jay
July 29th, 2015, 4:15 AM

He had his best years at Jayventus, when I took a boy and made him into the man he is today. I'm like a father figure to him.

What a load of shit. I nurtured him through his early years into the striker he is today after he was cruelly tossed aside by you for Febian Brandy in 2009.

Bad Collin
July 29th, 2015, 4:25 AM
Aguero and Rhodes were number one and two on BCWROGS, well done boys.

Beefy, take your time. I'm still not 100% sure.

Beefy had asked me NOT to put in who he said he was going for last night. Last minute change of heart?

Torn
July 29th, 2015, 4:31 AM
No doubt Beefy is going to bottle this pick just like he bottled the league.

The Rosk
July 29th, 2015, 5:14 AM
beefy didn't choke. He just decided to trust Craig Gunn, Paddy Madden, Tom Ince and Elliott Lee to carry him to the title when 7 points clear.

Bad Collin
July 29th, 2015, 5:16 AM
Craig Gunn is a legend.

Where is the Beef? I have a meeting from 11:15 to 13:00 so there will be a delay if he doesn't pick before that.

Beefy
July 29th, 2015, 5:17 AM
Ince did well for me and if Darren Bent could score a penalty or if Alex had accepted the ridiculously good trade offer I gave him then Sergio would be home.

I'll be picking in FIVE minutes.

Jay

What a load of shit. I nurtured him through his early years into the striker he is today after he was cruelly tossed aside by you for Febian Brandy in 2009.That was tough love. He learnt from it, I brought him back as my first pick of the draft and he then had the best season of his career.

Jay

Does anyone else do a prediction before the draft of who they think they will actually get? I usually end up getting about half of the players I imagined I'd pick up.

BBF
July 29th, 2015, 5:46 AM
Yeah I do. I normally do ok but only as I like the conference so much and most others don't.

Jay
July 29th, 2015, 5:47 AM
I used to; I'd have every round mapped out with players in separate tiers. For the past two or three years, though, outside of the first three picks I've pretty much just winged it.

Bad Collin

I used to map it out like Jay did with players who I'd be happy picking in certain rounds etc but after doing so much American fantasy I just use a basic ranked list like that. Mostly for the later rounds it's too hard to order like that so I just jot names down so I don't forget about them and decide when the pick comes around.

Bad Collin
July 29th, 2015, 5:54 AM
Bit different to Messi!

Yup, I wasn't going to go lower leagues after getting burned by Brett Pittman in my first full season but Reeves seems settled enough and I didn't like the PL options.

I was reading today that all of the league scouts that have watched him have not come in for him because all he does is score.

Beefy
July 29th, 2015, 5:55 AM
Reeves was linked with us last week. I don't think there was anything in it though.

Bad Collin

It's an easy story isn't it? Prolific strikers are always going to be linked away.

He signed a new deal recently. I wanted him last year as he had a ridiculous record in the leagues below but Grim got there first :( I read at one point a while ago he didn't want to leave Altrincham for the football league when he was scoring 40 goals a season because he was happy in his life earning quite a bit as a successful tradesman.

BBF
July 29th, 2015, 6:01 AM
He's a definite risk I think. If he stays though he's guaranteed goals.

Torn

It's an interesting pick at 4 as I don't doubt he will score goals but at the same time there is a few conference strikers I'd still rather have.

The other thing that pushed me in his direction was the signing of Rankine who isn't much of a goalscorer. Hopefully he'll be setting them up. My other option was a sentimental choice who could have an amazing season but I had a few nagging doubts.

Whilst we're waiting... is there an argument for not having any keepers this year? Probably should have been discussed earlier as it impacts drafting strategy (I think there's other players who I could have picked who will outscore Rooney over the next few months but he's a great keeper pick) but just looking at the top three players going all being players we couldn't pick up last year and within a few picks people bemoaning a lack of quality on their list.

Would it help to not have any keepers?

I'm not convinced, I'm just asking the question whilst Hurley sleeps at 10 in the fucking morning.

BBF
July 29th, 2015, 10:14 AM
I don't think so. There is plenty of quality still out there I think.

Jay
July 29th, 2015, 10:31 AM
This is probably the strongest line-up of keepers we've ever had (the one year I don't have one), so that's definitely a factor.

I can see the benefits of no keepers, it'd help to open the game up for everyone, but wiping everyone's teams at the end of the season would take away a lot of the fun. I like trying to sign the next big player, like what was done last year with Afobe and Kane. To have them taken away from you at the end of the season would only piss people off, unless they were relegated, then they'd deserve it.

Gary J
July 29th, 2015, 10:44 AM
Scrap the keepers and let it be a reward if you win the MMH Cup. Far better reward then a 8th squad member and lets it face it if your team is scoring every week you don't a 8th squad member or euro pick or whatever the reward is these days.

Yeah it does fuck with the snake draft to be fair. Alex's second round pick is far less valuable than Reech's for example too.

We had this argument several years ago. I think it should be at 2 because if people are keeping a Sergio Aguero then there should be a high price attached to that. However I think we shouldn't turn the snake back around (for want of a better phrase) that round. I think it is too big an advantage for those at the start of the draft that they pick first in our first two round proper.

So I'd see it as 1-20 in Round One. 1-20 in Round Two (keeper round). Then 20-1 in Round Three.

If we're moving it I'd rather move it to Round One.

Bad Collin
July 29th, 2015, 11:22 AM
Maybe a keeper should take your second and third round picks and have an eighth draft round for those with keepers.

I think I have argued the same at some point and I agree that it's too big of an advantage but it's hard whichever way you spin it really. For example that method means if you don't have a keeper like Jay you get an early first AND second round picks. And there are some quality players around at the start of the second round too. It's tough.

MMH
July 29th, 2015, 12:08 PM
Dont forget the ones at the bottom of round 2 have Euro picks too. So realistically the top end should have a great keeper who helped them do well last season, a Euro pick and one of the top free agents. Reech (who we are using as the example here) has picks 19 and 21 with no guarentee they will do well.

Its perfectly balanced as it is.

I'm not sure I follow the argument. Yeah they get that but then an early 3rd round pick which is basically just their second rounder. Rosk for example after the keeper round waits until 56 to pick again after his first rounder which is what BC was getting at earlier. I don't really think there is a much better way that what we do already though, there'll be things like that however you jig it.

Bad Collin

Can we just agree next year then that Chris Scott doesn't draft but just gets given the Liverpool squad? He'll only trade his 1st, 2nd and 3rd draft picks for Lucas and a packet of quavers anyway.

It's not that bad for Chris Scott. "Blatently unfair" is an overreaction. A late first and early second for a player that would probably have been picked in the top 5 is decent business. Yeah BC only "paid" a second round pick for a first round talent but that's the keeper system and anyone else can do that too if they want to trade their keepers.

The Rosk is here to save us from these shenanigans with Shelton's second pick.

I'm looking at Ciftci, then XXX or XXX

So what should I do lads?

Chris Scott you literally handed Beefy the League last year and you're doing it again here. There is nothing in that for you. It is mental.

Pick the first one.

Is one of them obviously a worse pick? Pick that one.

And that's assuming I don't make a terrible pick in the second round

Ross McCormack is 10/1 to be top scorer in the Championship this year.

Christian Benteke is 16/1 to be top scorer in the Premier League this year.

It makes sense that he would want to give away a top draft pick AND a player likely to score more goals to get Benteke. Definitely.

Yes but we can't ASSUME you'll make a bad pick or ASSUME your player will do something stupid and get a 10 game ban. We can only look at trades on face value and the trade you've made has been highlighted by at least 3 people now.

If we were making assumptions I'd say Benteke and McCormack would have fairly similar goal returns this season. Which means Chris Scott has got a 6th round pick and lost a 1st round...

To be fair, Chris Scott has not confirmed it in here yet. We need his confirmation before we allow BC to do this.
