View Full Version : Anniversary of Misawa vs. Jumbo I

June 8th, 2015, 6:24 PM

One of the best matches in the history of wrestling, and easily the most important match in All Japan's history. It was the beginning of the 90's youth-movement, when younger stars began to overtake the older ones that had dominated in the late 70's and throughout the 80's.

Supposedly, Jumbo was supposed to win this match, but when Giant Baba saw just how ridiculously pro-Misawa the crowd was, he changed the finish to Misawa's victory. Jumbo asked if the finish could be by countout, a standard 80's tactic that allowed one to lose without looking inferior. Baba told Jumbo a very emphatic, "no."

People were crying after Misawa won.

Also the best part is after they lift Misawa on their shoulders how happy Kobashi looks and how grumpy Kawada looks.

Yeah, I love how this guy focuses on Kawada's expression in this video:

Since we're on the June AJPW kick and this got bumped did you realize Misawa resigned as President of AJPW on June 13, 2000 and died June 13, 2009
