View Full Version : Best Music in a Video Game list discussion

The Rick
April 26th, 2015, 1:40 PM
You have a while to compile this list, but I wanted to get you guys thinking on this topic.

-Submit your list of the best 15 video games for their music and specify the console (use your judgement here. If it is obscure then help me out a bit) via Private Message to me.

-Best music is absolutely subjective. Do you think that Tony Hawk 3's soundtrack is better than Castlevania III's score, then that is up to you.

-Submissions will be due June 16th, 2015(the start of E3.

-(home console, handheld, PC, and Arcade are all viable)

-Have Fun!

It'll be hard to appreciate soundtracks of games you haven't played. A few that come to mind are stuff like RARE's games from the SNES era, such as Donkey Kong Country trilogy or Killer Instinct. People who had Mega Drive's/Genesis' don't know what they're missing. :\

The best use of music on the mega drive was easily superior that it's equivalent on the SNES.

Just listen to Streets of Rage for heaven's sake, it's packed full if tracks that would seamlessly transfer to the clubs of the day and even stand up to scrutiny now.

And then, yeah, SNES. Kinda cute noise, if you like that sort of thing.

Honestly if the Opera, Veldt, Cyan's Theme/Doma Castle and Kefka's theme don't land FFVI in a good spot you lot have no souls and should dragged out into the sun where you burst into flames.

I have a soft spot for Sonic Adventure 2. Bayonetta might get a little repetitive but it's a damn good song they just needed more than one song. True Crimes: Streets of LA though I'm not sure if that's cheating or not, like the GTA games they didn't for the most part get songs made, they went a licensed a bunch of songs. It would be like putting whichever Guitar Hero/Rock Band you like the most on the list.

all of it. What game has the best music? That is completely up to you. Do you have Skyrim above Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas? Do you have Donkey Kong Country 2 above Portal 2? These are some of the questions one will have to search out for themselves.

The answers are no and yes by the way.

Nope lets compare apples and oranges. It has already provided more discussion than the last two list topics. Everyone has different taste in music, and that's what I think will make this really interesting. There will be some that love the 8/16 bit tunes more, some that will love the stuff from the last two generations better, and then some that will just love certain soundtracks and how they blend with that game. There are just some great moments in the GTA games that are set to different songs for me.
