View Full Version : Kneeneighbor vs Techmo Super Bowl

Kneeneighbor

Alright as part of my gaming plan for they year I am going to try and play a season with each team in the game. Each team will get its own post and summary of the season. In addition I will keep overall records on all of the teams in every season to see over time who is the best. I have decided on a few rules below and am open to changing them up if need be.

+ I will not change the play book for any team, even while controlling them. There are some teams that I think just have trash playbooks but it is what it is.
+ My first goal with every team will be to go 19-0. Once that is no longer possible the goal becomes to win the Super Bowl.
+ Alcohol will be involved in playing.
+ Teams will be chosen in what ever order I feel. In order to get through it I think I am going to need to spread some of my favorite teams out.
+ I am playing this on the original NES. As such the game can be a bit touchy. If the game resets and doesnt save then the game must be replayed.
+ If a major injury happens to derail a season so be it. If my starting QB goes down I am just going to have to push through.
+ At the end of the season I will name the MVP for the team based on the play in the game and post their stats.

Any other ideas or questions let me know! I have already started the first season and will post an update later today.

If you are into this game and want an very in depth break down player by player, team by team it can be found here (http://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/587686-tecmo-super-bowl/faqs/6416)

I will drop a few of these stats in as I get team to team.

Atlanta Falcons
Ranking:21t (uses only the starters to rank the teams based on ratings)
SOS: 21
Players of Note: Andre "Bad Moon A" Rison (WR), Deion "Prime Time" Sanders (CB)

Record: 13-3 (Playoffs 1-1) Wild Card

Team MVP: Deion Sanders

Regular Season MVP: Joe Montana

Super Bowl Champion: Houston Oilers 35 San Francisco 49ers 28

Playoff MVP: Warren Moon (3 straight 300 yard passing games)

Notes: So far the Falcons sit at 10-1. The loss came at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in their second meeting. I was rather upset because I had drilled them 49-7 and then the game reset. A second playing of the game resulted in a 17-14 loss when Joe Montana found Jerry Rice in the end zone on the final play of the game. Also of note Andre Rison missed 3 games, including the loss to the 49ers due to injury. The Falcons hold a 1 game lead in the division over the 49ers and a one game lead over the Giants in the NFC East for the number 1 seed.

The Falcons now sit at 12-2 tied atop the NFC West with the 49ers. My defense has struggled as of late. We havent been able to stop the run or the pass. Traditionally my teams lock down the passing game and do enough against the run. Last loss came to the Rams in a 35-28 shoot out. We did have the ball at the end but it was deep in our own territory with seconds left.

The season ended in the second round of the playoffs with a 13-7 loss at the hands of the Giants. Falcons had the ball on the 20 with a min to go but LT ruined 4 straight plays and it was not to be.

Stats
Miller 111-192 2766 (tel:111-192 2766) yards 28 TD 6 INT
Collins 45 receptions 1095 yards 7 TDs
Rison 24 receptions 855 yards 11 TDs
Rozier 147 carries 796 yards 14 TDs
Sanders 16 Sacks 3 INTs

Ranking: 26

Players of Note: QB Browns( QB) Eric Metcalf (RB)

Record: 13-3

Team MVP: Kevin Mack

Regular Season MVP: Joe Montana

Super Bowl Champion: San Fran 28 Buffalo 20

Playoff MVP: Joe Montana

Notes: Browns are rolling so far. One loss on the year and a 2 game lead in the division. Crazy balance on offense. Defense is slow but pressuring QBs like crazy.

Browns are 10-1 next closest in the division is the Oilers at 5-6. However Eric Metcalf is injured and several key offensive starters are listed in bad health. Going to do my best to rest them over the coming weeks while still trying to win. Seattle is 9-2 and Buffalo is 8-3 as the other division leaders so I would like to keep the 1 seed.

Browns are the two seed heading into the playoffs at 13-3. Everything had lined up well for their playoff run. I was very close to voting Mack as the league MVP but I felt his yardage was just way short of where it needed to be.

Well the Browns fell in OT in the Divisional Round to the Buffalo Bills in one of the greatest games in Techmo Super Bowl history. Each team scored in the first half on a fumble recovery leaving things at 7-7 at the break. In the second half the Bills scored first on a long run by the full back. That was answered by the Browns with a long TD pass to tie the game at 14. That's where things stood as teams exchanged punts and eventually headed to overtime. That was par for the course in overtime as well. It wasnt util the 4th possession of over time that the Bills lined up for a 58 yard field goal... an doinked it off the right upright. The Browns then picked up a first down and tried a FG of their own from about 59 which was missed as well. One more first down and the Bills kicked the game winner from 38 sending them to the conference championship. 17-14

Notes: Despite its 12-4 record the team is just not playing that well. A lot of narrow victories. The defense struggles when it takes on a balanced offense. Barry Sanders has off games and that throws things into chaos. Heading into the playoffs Rodney Pete is injured again. 2 of the 4 losses occurred with him out injured.

Playoff MVP:

Notes: The Saints are on a tear. Currently at 9-0 but we have not played the 49ers yet. The team really doesnt have a stand out. We started more run heavy but have transitioned to a balanced attack, though a majority of the yards are now coming through the air. The Bengals lost this week to fall to 8-1. Saints are only undefeated team left.

I saw this thread and thought, yes, one of the greatest games EVER! I have 3 Nintendo's, not sure why I haven't thrown the 2 that don't work for jack shit away but the one that does is very hit or miss. I have a great story, at least to me: A friend of mine drives a delivery truck. He was driving, it was sprinkling out, it was trash day...he sees a small box on by a trash can and Idk how he saw the contents of this box but it had about 15 NES games, all bad ass. Super Mario 1-3, Ninja Turtles, WrestleMania, Iron Tank, Kid Icarus, even the 7Up game haha. So he grabbed them knowing I had the system still. Not sure why someone would throw that stuff away, probably someone's old ass mom who didn't know the value just like my mom when she sold 40 of my games for like $20 to my neighbor without my consent lol.

Sadly Tecmo Super Bowl was not one of them, but Tecmo Bowl was so it's better than nothing.

My plan is to wrap up this season over the weekend. Compile the important stats and move on to the next. A bit burnt out of the Falcons approach but I am for sure a threat in the playoffs. Oh and I love Prime Time. With out looking at stats right now he is the MVP because he does so much on D with his speed. Im not sure though if others will have enough to surpass him. Rison probably would have with out missing those 3 or 4 games.

Anyone have an opinion on who I should play with next?

Regular season complete. Total disaster to close it losing to Dallas with the help of 5 lost fumbles. Falcons are 13-3 and the 4 seed and host Philly in the first round. I'll get more details typed up later when I'm off of the iPad and on a real computer.

Browns clinch the division with three games to go. In an interesting spot there are several 7-7 teams fighting for the final spot and I play3 of them going forward. A chance to eliminate Houston and Denver lay ahead. Maybe not officially but it will put them in a tough spot if the lose to me.

All time records and standings updated. Playoffs will finish tonight. 6 teams remain. (we have played through sat of the divisional weekend)

Things to note:
Mike Johnson racked up an incredible 32 sacks. This was a combo of him being the guy who would always get there when I chose the right play and me controlling him around 75% of the time. The other 25% going to Clay Matthews.
New England and Indianapolis are terrible.
The Central Divisions are very balanced.
5 teams made the playoffs in both seasons so far.
The Falcons fell to 2-14 a year after a user controlled 13-3.

Eagles are still rolling but I havent been able to play as often. However I have a shift in work responsibilities coming up that should change that! I think the Eagles will hold several records when it is all said and done.

Reviving this. New set up has allowed for the Nintendo to be set back up full time. I have begun the 4th season. This time with the Lions. I will post the info for them later. So far I am 2-0 after a messy win against the Redskins as I shook the rust off and a blow out of the Packers.

Things I have learned so far while playing with the Lions.
1. I hate the playbook.
2. Green Bay is terrible.
3. Barry Sanders should be faster.

Lions lead the NFC with an 8-2 record. After losing Rodney Pete, Mel Grey also went out with injury. Both just returned but it was a rocky few games without them as the Lions were blown out by both the 49ers (7-3) and the Bears (5-5).

The Lions are Super Bowl Champions. Demolished the Bears, Giants and the Bengals in the playoffs. Was lucky to avoid the #1 seed 49ers who were beat by the Giants. 3 lopsided games. Super Bowl was 28-7. Lions recovered 5 fumbles.

Barry Sanders is your Super Bowl MVP with 163 yards rushing and a TD.

As frustrating as the season as at points, (all 4 losses were by double digits) this was the best I have played in the experiment so far. Records for team offense, Sanders setting all kinds of records that may not get touched and a defense that was never great until the playoffs.

Up next is the New Orleans Saints. I am expecting a bit of a Super Bowl hangover so hopefully I can grind it out with Steve Walsh and Ironhead Heyward.

I've broken format a bit with out the saints info posted. It's finals week where I teach so a lot of stress. That says the Saints have made for food stress relief. 7-0 so far. I can't point to any one highlight or stand out. Most games have been low scoring. Steve Walsh has been just good enough.

New Orleans Saints
Ranking:19 (uses only the starters to rank the teams based on ratings)
SOS: 13
Players of Note: Craig Ironhead Heyward

Record:

Team MVP:

Regular Season MVP:

Super Bowl Champion:

Playoff MVP:

Notes: The Saints are on a tear. Currently at 9-0 but we have not played the 49ers yet. The team really doesnt have a stand out. We started more run heavy but have transitioned to a balanced attack, though a majority of the yards are now coming through the air. The Bengals lost this week to fall to 8-1. Saints are only undefeated team left.

A 9-0 start goes up in flames as the Saints finish 11-5. Turnover plagued the team in the second half of the season and the run game was non existent. Two records were set. The Defense gave up the fewest rush yards and Maxie tied the INT record. It should be noted that Perriman was short of the receptions record by 5 and the yardage record by 3 yards.

It looks like I will have to beat the Giants, Bears and then 49ers to make the Super Bowl. I would not be surprised with a one and done.

I will update the standings and historical standings as well as drop in player stats tomorrow.

Saints all over the Giants 38-3. I am giving up on trying to sort out this team. Just going to ride the roller coaster.

Bears next. I always seem to have trouble with them in Techmo for some reason.

And so it ends. The Bears dismantle the Saints.

League MVP is QB Bills who lead the team to a 14-2 record.

I still need to update the all time standings from the Saints season but I wanted to get a quick update in,

I started a new season with Miami and Dan Marino was lighting the world on fire. And then he got hurt and it is now the Scott Mitchell Show. I believe the team is 7-3. Marino was on pace to shatter all of the passing records as he has a great arm like QB Eagles but better receivers and is not a threat to run. He still has a shot at those records, depending on how long he is out for.
