There was a few threads of this made when I first started on here, can't be arsed to find them.

But yeah, I bet occasionally. I made about £500 last year from Skybet when they did their "bet £5 get £5" offer. Now they've changed it to "Bet £50 get £5". Not quite as enticing.

I bet football every week these days. Just lost 100 bucks on the Miami v. Bills game and I am going to run through and make my Sunday bets later today.

I got this mad idea of making a tenner every day by starting with pennies and betting on several in-play favourites per day. It was just like the Weakest Link, as soon as I got to 10 on the first day I banked, same with the second day but then some 1/4 tennis player got beat when I was within grasp of my third tenner and it put me off a bit.

Started again today with 30 odd pence on England at 4/9.

I run football pots at work where you pick every game one week with no spreads. It's $10 to enter and the pot every week this season has been $1500. I am up about $2600 this year...so yeah.

Fro

Well that was easy money. 1 for 1.

Not sure who I like tomorrow night. I want to take the Steelers but their loss against the Jets is disturbing. I might leave the Pats as my sole bet this week. I tend to bet on Boston teams the most but it's not because I'm a homer (I try hard not to be with my bets) it's just because I follow them so much more closely so I'm more informed and therefore better with my picks. I know other people who never bet their home team for fear of the jinx. Morons.

Damn I saw the Steelers at something around -5 this morning and was on the fence and now they've jumped to -7.5. Kicking myself for not getting in. I still like the Steelers to cover though so I'm gonna play it.

Fro's Pick #2:
Steelers -7.5 (+115) $20 to win $23

Fucking Steelers...

Fro's Pick #3:
Patriots -7.5 +110 vs Lions: $20 to win $22

For this week's NFL games i've gone with

Browns +3 vs Falcons - I have been impressed with Cleveland this season. Atlanta have only beaten Tampa Bay (twice) , Carolina (maybe the worst team in the nfl) and the saints due to a Colston fumble.

Lions +7 vs Patriots - I see the Patriots saving themselves for Green Bay I also think Detroit are being underrated here.

Vikings +10 vs Packers - I think the Packers will be looking ahead to New England the following week. This is Minnesota's Super Bowl and the Vikings aren't as bad as everyone thinks they are.

Colts -14 vs Jaguars - The Colts will get back into form by slaughtering Jacksonville. Luck usually destroys them.

Picking against the Patriots at home :nono:

Fro's Pick #4:
11/23/2014 8:30 PM NFL Football Dallas Cowboys -4½ -110 vs New York Giants
Risking $20.00 To Win $18.18

Gary J
November 23rd, 2014, 7:49 PM
I know I know I just couldn't not go for the Lions as I really felt The Patriots would be saving themselves for Green Bay and that the Lions are one of the better teams in the NFL.

I have also took the Cowboys bet. I have also put money on the Saints -3 on the Ravens.

Fro
November 23rd, 2014, 7:54 PM
I fucking dare Vegas to make the Patriots underdogs next week @GB. Go ahead, do it. :muahaha:

Fro
November 23rd, 2014, 8:16 PM
And yeah I like the Cowboys giving 4.5 tonight. I think they'll run right over the Giants.

I'm leaning the other way on MNF though. I like Baltimore as 3 point dogs. Saints have been ass of late but at home they could get it together. Will think on it.

Fro
November 25th, 2014, 12:22 AM

Fro's Picks #5 and #6:

I also kinda like Miami -7 on Monday night at NYJ.

Gary J
December 4th, 2014, 8:17 PM
Stuck some money on Chicago tonight as it's December and the Cowboys are stuck on eight wins. Plus Dallas have been shit recently, losing to Washington, barely beating the awful Giants and then getting blown out versus Philadelphia. Aside from a victory over the hapless Jaguars they have done fuck all lately.

Colts -3.5 (@CLE): $20 to win $20

Gary J
December 6th, 2014, 6:46 PM

Raiders +8.5

Fro
December 6th, 2014, 6:56 PM
you gotta jump on the Patriots bro. my personal guarantee they will cover. and btw I know they burned you last week but if they would have made that 40 yard field goal with 2 minutes left, they would have and should have covered. that was a tough beat. although I had them on the moneyline anyway so it didn't matter for me

Gary J
December 6th, 2014, 7:46 PM
I don't know I think the Patriots will beat the Chargers but I'm not entirely convinced. I'm basing this on Rivers actually looked decent again against the Ravens and I can see Ryan Matthews causing a few problems.

Fro
December 14th, 2014, 1:23 PM

Woooo TB lost by 2 and covered so I went 2 for 2. Through 10 bets I am 5-5

Fro's Picks
1. 11/16/2014 Patriots +135 (at Colts): $20 to win $27
Result: Won

2. 11/17/14 Steelers -7.5 +115 (at Titans): $20 to win $23
Result: Lost

3. 11/23/14 Patriots -7.5 +110 (vs Lions): $20 to win $22
Result: Won

4. 11/23/14 Cowboys -4.5 -110 (at Giants): $20 to win $18.18

5. 11/30/14 Patriots +140 (at Packers): $20 to win $28
Result: Lost

6. 11/30/14 Bengals -3.5 +100 (@TB): $20 to win $20

8. 12/7/14 Colts -3.5 (@CLE): $20 to win $20

9. 12/14/14 Patriots -7.5 -110 (vs MIA): $20 to win $18.18
Result: Won

10. 12/14/14 Tampa Bay +3 (@ CAR): $20 to win $20
Result: Won

Starting Bank: $100
Current Bank: $105.36

So basically dead even (5.36% gains to be precise). I guess it's yet to be determined if I have a future in sports picks. Clearly though, everyone should be betting on the Patriots weekly.

Where are you betting that you are able to bet on the spread and the house isn't taking a cut.

Fro
December 28th, 2014, 9:33 PM
Where are you betting that you are able to bet on the spread and the house isn't taking a cut.

I use 5dimes. They make their cut with their payout adjustments. For example the spread is 3 tonight so you can take the Steelers -3 or the Bengals +3 but if you take either of those bets you don't double your money, you get slightly less than that. Doubling your money would be a pure +100 bet but in this case the spreads look like this:

Steelers -3 (-110)
Bengals +3 (-110)

-110 means you bet 110 to win 100. So if the betting is even the house makes money either way since they are paying out less than double to the winners. This is how all online sportsbooks I've used work.

Kneeneighbor
December 28th, 2014, 11:09 PM
I guess I'm confused when I look at number 10. It says bet $20 to win $20. The places I've bet before I don't think I've ever seen that when betting the spread.

When ever I've seen the spread you are getting that -110.

Fro
December 28th, 2014, 11:18 PM
It varies but the house always gets some advantage. -110 for both picks would be the standard spread pick but they make it weird sometimes. That particular bet probably looked something like this:

Tampa Bay +3 (+100)
Carolina -3 (-120).

Why do they do this for regular spread picks? I don't know but I guess hey have their formulas and reasoning.

Frequently the site also allows you to slightly adjust the spread yourself so you could switch +3 to +2.5 and your payout would increase accordingly. That could look something like:

Tampa Bay +2.5 (+120)
Carolina -2.5 (-140)

So there are a lot of ways the house can tweak it or you yourself can tweak it but the house always gives themselves an edge in some way

EDIT: Steelers covered. :wiggle:

Mmmkay not my best bet on Oregon there.

I tend to stay away from the NFL Playoffs. The NFL regular season is really my bread and butter and the playoffs get a little tough to call. HOWEVER.... I cannot resist the Patriots -7 at home against the Colts. I don't think they'll blow them out (though it's very possible) but I think they win by more than 1 score.

I can't believe the spread has even given Denver the +3. Just because everyone thinks Manning is done, maybe he is physically but he is still the smartest quarterback in the NFL. He'll be able to solve Kansas City's defense, as he always has. Plus I think Denver are a far better team then Kansas.

I lost my bet on the Pats last night

Doubled up on the Panthers

Already took the Panthers Moneyline for the Superbowl, assuming the Public will jump on them more making the line even more juiced up

I usually don't like taking the moneyline on favorites, but now residing in Charlotte, all the buzz and excitement in the city is making me a homer.

Pretty crazy over here right now. I work across the street from the stadium. We see Cam Newton hoverboarding around all the time. I was going to Panthers games a few years ago and recall fans walking out of the arena saying "I wish the Panthers were good" and now they look world class

Quite a few of the people I work have Panthers season tickets and are going nuts wondering how the allocation of Super Bowl tickets amongst PSL holders are going to be distributed

It really makes no sense. Does America love betting on Manning that much?

Kneeneighbor
January 26th, 2016, 9:28 AM
America loves offense and under estimates what a good defense can do. They look at 4.5 and see easy money and that is how Vegas makes money.

Spedizzo
January 26th, 2016, 12:32 PM
Watching every Panthers game this year, I am not sold on the Panthers offense like the rest of the nation may be. I am also not buying into Cam Newton. I think Cam Newton overthrows a lot, makes questionable throws, and puts himself in a lot of positions where he can get hurt. Sure he is a bigger guy, but one of these days he is going to get tackled after a first down that he ran for and not get up. He is still young so the wear and tear hasn't destroyed him yet

The Panthers put up a lot of points, but it is mostly because of the turnovers that their defense creates

So your point about America seeing 4.5 and seeing easy money has me scratching my head, because the Panthers defense is just as dangerous, if not moreso, than the Broncos defense... especially against a timid Peyton Manning led offense

Anything can happen, but this game has the makings of Seattle vs. Denver from 2 years ago

The only thing I am nervous about in taking the Panthers is how thin they are at defensive depth. They have a lot of injuries, especially in their secondary. Their wide receiver core is nothing to write home about... so if Cam and company turns it over a couple times, it can be an extremely close game

By the way, the Saints/Chiefs game and the Atlanta/San Diego game both have O/U of 50 or higher. I would be investing big in DFS in those 2 games. Matt Ryan-Julio Jones-Devonta Freeman stack could be big points this week. Kansas City defends an opposing teams #1 WR very well, but struggles against the #2. I could see Brees and Snead connecting for over a buck and 1 TD in this game. Mike Evans should see a ton of work this week, with DeAndre Hopkins putting up a 4th straight bust. Chris Conley for KC is a big sleeper this week. You also couldn't go wrong with a combination of Rivers-Benjamin-Williams.

The juices are flowing again after that parlay win which paid out roughly 7 to 1.

In on Vikings -5 tonight at Chicago.

Saints -3 only action I'm taking today (so far)

That game scares me. I'd be tempted to get Vikings +3

3 bets for tomorrow, let's see how I do:

Steelers -8 (@ CLE)
Cardinals +2.5 (@ MIN)
3 team moneyline parlay: Steelers, Patriots & Seahawks (pays out even)

2 out of 3- good day for me. I'm not touching the night game but if I did I'd take Washington -3

Minnesota +2 in Detroit feels like a no-brainer to me.

I'm looking at the lines tomorrow and I like a lot of the favorites to cover:

Titans -6 @ Bears
Saints -8.5 vs Rams
Giants -7 @ Browns
Seahawks -6 @ Buc
Broncos -3.5 vs Chiefs
Pats -7.5 @ Jets

These the ones I'm considering. Thoughts?

Fro

Okay here's where my money's at:

Patriots -7.5
Titans -6
Seahawks -5.5
Giants -6.5

I will add that I got in on the Pats last night immediately after it was reported that Gronk is expected to play and the line is now 8.5 so that's always nice.

Also the broncos might be my favorite bet of the day but I won't bet on them because I don't want to root for them.

1-2-1 (Titans pushed). Not a good day for me but not a total disaster.

I put $50 on Patriots -3½ +115. I love when bookies have an adjustable line.

Alright I'm gonna keep track of my spread bets and we'll see how I do. I'm using Bovada this year. First one:

Lions (-7) vs Jets

and yes I'm betting this 10 days in advance. finally football is back :D

Edit: 2 additional week 1 bets:

Steelers (-4) at Browns
Falcons (+3) at Eagles
