So I just opened up a page on the forum (the WWE announcer thread in the WWE forum to be exact) and avast freaked out and told me it had saved the day by blocking an attempted infection from that page. It gave me the following details:

It hasn't happened again anywhere else on the forum (or on refreshing that page) but I thought I should bring it up.

Nah you were right it's from the French, which came from the Latin malus. Anyway it hasn't happened again the past few days but I've seen word on other forums lately that some people have apparently been trying to infect users with scripts or something.
