No Okada defense is lame but Rematch Attack still looks like a good card. WTF is the Gracies match.

I don't know what the source actually is for this so it may be bollocks - but apparently Taguchi/Devitt now has a stipulation that if Devitt loses he's gone from New Japan, which may suggest he's signed with WWE.

* Wataru Inoue exclaimed that his life as a professional wrestler was great as New Japan said farewell to the 40-year-old, forced to retire after a lengthy injury.

Wataru couldn’t wrestle today but six matches were held in his honour and he was at the show, speaking and finally being given a cheerful send-off. Faces from his past such as his trainer Animal Hamaguchi were also in attendance.

Tanahashi used Wataru’s Staggerin’ Blow and Triangle Lancer in the main event, which also featured Wataru’s former young lion rival and tag partner Shibata, as well as fellow Hamaguchi Dojo graduate Tomoaki Honma. The match finished with Goto hitting Honma with his Shouten Kai.

really good first half, everything was fun in some way. cool send off for devitt, although the end of the match made me hate taguchi (first i've seen of him) with his endless fucking face buster variations.

on the upside, this means tanahashi won't be doing the styles clash anymore

I wouldn't think so, but Japanese offices are marks for any Americans who are close to any level of star

god damn was naito trying to break his neck in that match? i liked it a lot. still didn't blow me away because these ishii/naito matches have an odd quality to them that i dont know how to explain, i like a lot of what they do but it feels sort of like a discrete set of cool sequences rather than a continuous match. i dunno. either way, it was really good and i think better than their first.

Best Nakamura/Tanahashi match ever by miles and miles. Very, very interesting. I can see the extended knee working getting tiresome on a rewatch, but it felt so unique in the context of this match that it was great.

Awesome show, easily show of the year so far. Glad I stayed up for it, much exceeded expectations.

I fell asleep during the tag title match. I'll have to catch the main event later.

Everything on the undercard was at least fun for one reason or another. The weakest matches were the NWA match and the tag title match, and the NWA match at least had Tencozy being over as fuck which was cool to see and the tag title match had a really cool ending and a pretty good last few minutes in general. Opening juniors tag was what it needed to be, the YTR/Gracies match was an amusing clusterfuck, Suzuki/Sakuraba six man was really fun, and Devitt/Tagachi a cool angle-driven match with some good juniors wrestling in there (with all the no selling you expect, too). Naito/Ishii and Nakamura/Tanahashi were probably 2 of the top 3 NJPW matches of the year so far for me.

as a side note, the crowd didn't seem too impressive. i dont know what a non-G1 sumo hall crowd is usually like.

HAHA! Just realized I was posting in the wrong thread. I don't know how I missed that.

Just watched this. Tanahashi/Nakamura was MILES better than their Wrestle Kingdom bout. Maybe my favorite match of the year, so far.

Just watched Tanahashi vs. Nakamura. Very good match....Tanahashi heeling it up was pretty glorious to watch and his knee work was vicious. The only problem I had was that I felt Nakamuras' selling of the knee wasn't all that great and I was looking for the damaged knee to lead to him not being able to pull off Boma ye and he would have to resort maybe a landslide or something else to pull off the victory. Also, I would have preferred the figure four as Tanahashis big submission in this match but that's just me. Still a very good match overall, probably an 8/10 from me.
