TNA announced a joint PPV that will be taped on 3/2 at Sumo Hall in Tokyo working with the Wrestle-One promotion on a One Night Stand show that would air later this year.

There will be 11 TNA wrestlers sent to the show, which would be a TNA vs. Wrestle-One theme with mainly interpromotional matches. Scheduled to be sent are Magnus, Bobby Roode, Samoa Joe, Gail Kim, Austin Aries, Abyss, Frankie Kazarian, Christopher Daniels, Madison Rayne, Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards.

In exchange, Keiji Muto, as The Great Muta, and Seiya Sanada will be working Lockdown on 3/9 in Coral Gables, FL.

The ironic part of this deal is that the original conduit of the deal was Jeff Jarrett, who worked for Wrestle-One on one of the company's first shows.

Besides Muto, Wrestle-One features a number of name wrestlers including Hall of Famer Masakatsu Funaki, former WCW wrestler Kaz Hayashi, as well as Shuji Kondo, Koji Kanemoto and Minoru Tanaka. They also regularly use stars from other promotions on their shows.

Hope it won't be like one of the WK shows where every TNA wrestler(s) > New Japan wrestller(s). That was annoying.

Pretty obvious the winner of the tournament will be KAI, since Sanada is otherwise occupied.

I don't think I have ever seen this Magnus guy wrestle, but something tells me him trying to work Funaki would be hilarious.

Could be a fun card.

I've seen Tanaka, Kanemoto, Funaki and Hayashi quite a bit of course but never the other lads (Sanada, Kondo, KAI). I'm really hoping it won't be a clean sweep for TNA though, I hate that kind of stuff. TNA will obviously win matches #3-4 so I'm hoping that the W-1 guys gets the nod in #1-2.

With the exception of Godderz it's a solid team from TNA. Would have been cool to see the American Wolves on the card too.

How big are Wrestle-1 in Japan? I get this feeling they're kind of on the ROH level, compared to NJPW = WWE. It's a pretty big arena I think, 13k seats or something. Maybe a mistake to book it so close to New Japan running the same venue.

Ringo
February 26th, 2014, 6:57 AM
Well they've only been around 6 months. Mutoh left All Japan and brought half the roster with him to form (yet another) new promotion. Looking at their attendances it looks like 2,500 is their largest reported crowd - but I'd assume that's not even legitimate.

OD50
February 26th, 2014, 7:22 AM
Ah, then there's been another promotion with the same name. I was browsing for Wrestle-1 matches a couple of weeks ago and found this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVSdWx5LrYk

Hm.. 2,500 in attendance probably with some comps. I guess that's pretty much equal to TNA in that case.

But yeah, booking a 13,000 seat venue for a company of that size seems a bit overly optimistic. Especially since I assume TNA is a non-entity in Japan.

I'll never ever ever understand the thought process on not airing these live. I shutter to think exactly how many people order these TNA PPV's on delay.

WWE Network model for TNA makes so much sense. Really something they themselves should have implemented long long ago. (Obviously few people will pay $9.99/mo for TNA, but I'm sure charging less than that would bring in more revenue than they're currently getting)

Depends on the other 5 guys really. Which I will now look up.

No idea who Tigre Uno is. Keiji Muto is broken, but knows more short cuts than a cab driver so he'll be fine working with Daniels at least. The other the two I can take or leave.

So no not that excited.

Sanada is a boring bell end. And seeing a Muta match for the first time now is probably a bit like seeing a Sting match for the first time now.

Extreme Tiger can jump around and make up for their deficiencies. :)

I've been a Muta fan since the late 80's/early 90's but I saw him recently (at WK8 perhaps) and bloody hell was he looking slow and knackered. Liger on the other hand is still looking good. He doesn't do all that much in his matches but what he does (Palm strikes, Liger Bomb etc) looks as good as ever.

And I was hoping to watch this show before reading the results. No such luck. :(

And what was the point of The Wolves winning the titles if the Bromans was going to regain them here anyway?

Maybe the japenese team refused to do the job to the bro mans so they interjected the wolves in there to take the fall

I dont know they switched the titles on a house show so unless they forgot they had a couple of weeks taped with the bromans as champions somewhere I don't think they would be out of sync.

That would be the single funniest thing they've ever done if it's the case.

I watched last week's Impact yesterday and they did a decent cut and paste job as it pertains to the whole Wolves beating Bro Mans situation. I knew I had read a spoiler that said Bro Mans beat Wolves/Bad Influence in a triple threat. Basically they shot a segment in West Virginia with Roode saying whoever won between the heel teams would be on his team at Lockdown. Then on Impact they cut the entrances so you didn't see Bro Mans with the belts at all. That's like what WCW used to do (maybe WWF as well) where they would record Saturday Night a month in advance or some shit and if someone was expected to win a title on a live PPV or Nitro before that episode aired, they'd have said wrestler walking out with the title to the confusion of the fans. Weird.

Defrost
March 3rd, 2014, 11:36 AM
And what was the point of The Wolves winning the titles if the Bromans was going to regain them here anyway?

Here's what happened. When the show was put together Wrestle-1 was told the Wolves would be tag champs so Wrestle-1 started promoting that the Wolves would be on the card. Then when the Wolves were supposed to win the belts Bubba Ray Dudley talked whoever is booking over there out of it because it would mean more to wait or some such logic. So then internally the left hand of TNA books plane tickets to send the guys who have the belts over, and the right hand books the Wolves to win the belts on a house show and neither of these hands knows what the other is doing. And that led to a threeway and the Wolves losing.

OD50
March 4th, 2014, 5:12 PM
Wacky stuff..:freak: But yeah, I remember reading that there was plans to have the Wolves win the tag titles in their first TNA appearance but that it got changed.

I read that Mutoh is interested in doing Funaki/Angle on the next W-1/TNA show. Wonder if either guy is willing to tap out.

Really? A title change on a house show done purely to appease an outside company, which isn't even going to be acknowledged and does nothing to the momentum of the Wolves.... Is the benchmark for TNA sucking?

Nash Diesel
March 5th, 2014, 1:52 PM
Well the title change was acknowledged on Impact last week and I'm sure they'll acknowledge on this week's show that BroMans won the straps back or it'll look weird this Sunday when they show up wearing the belts and not the Wolves. I think it does do something to the Wolves' momentum if they are given a 1 week tag title run for no reason that I'm aware. They could've done the triple threat match and had the Wolves retain over BroMans if the other team, for no reason that matters, didn't want to do the job. Maybe it's because TNA's tag division has been pretty terrible the last year or so and finally a solid tag-team comes in and they are playing hot potato with the belts already.

Is it the BENCHMARK? No, but it's something to add to the list.
