I'll probably try to catch this one live. Ishii/Sibata is the draw, I'll give Tanahashi and Okada the benefit fo the doubt and hope that Sakuraba/Nagata can put it together this time.

So apparently Tanahashi is putting the CMLL Universal Title up in that match too. Also if Tanahashi loses there will never be another Tanahashi vs Okada match. I'll give you three guesses who is winning this match.

I am so hyped for this show that it's crazy. It's like they built the whole thing based solely on what I want out of a New Japan show. Love it.

X is Kota Ibushi. He has signed a contract with NJPW, but is also under contract for DDT. So he is full time with two promotions. No idea how this is gonna work. Press conference is going on right now

Smart get for New Japan. He got over really well with their fans during the Jr. Heavyweight feuds.
Hopefully Ibsuhi continues being bafflingly injury resistant.

Tanahashi has to go over? Okada/Nakamura at WK for control of CHAOS? And Tana lets Tetsuyawn Naito take the belt from him? "Passing the torch"...

Did not expect Okada to retain what with Tanahashi never being able to challenge for the belt again. The torch is well and truly passed, these two bettered Invasion Attack for me, shame we've gotta have Naito probably end this reign. Long live the king.

Okada/Tanahashi. The home stretch was great and truly epic and the crowd was fantastic. Loved the dueling chants, giving Tanahashi shit for the feigned injury and they really exploded at parts toward the end, especially at Okada getting his knees up. But by the time the match was 20 minutes long hardly anything interesting had happened. These guys could really benefit from going shorter and trying harder to work out a compelling first half. This feels like a MOTYC at 20 minutes, overly bloated and something I never want to watch again in full at 35 minutes.
The whole presentation was great though. The atmosphere, the video package, the entrances. NJPW is doing a great job taking western wrestling influences but still having a very "puroresu" product and it's not hard to see why it has such a fanatically devoted fanbase among smarks.

Ishii/Shibata was very disappointing and basically a parody of their G1 match. At best it's a novelty match that is fun to watch in the context of the card. There were some of the good exchange at the end you want from there guys but they were lost amid quite a mess of a match.
Nagata/Sakuraba was good, way better than their last match. Sakuraba looked like he'd be the best wrestler in New Japan if he got decent booking. With only Naito/Yujiro and Marufuji/Nakamura left to watch this is probably my match of the night.

Yujiro/Naito and Marufuji/Nakamura both exceeded my expectation, I actually quite enjoyed watching both. Naito has to be the absolute most egregious example of a no-selling junior in wrestling today but I though Yujiro looked way better than I've ever seen him and they worked a fun home stretch. Marujifi/Nakamura felt too choreographed at times but there was some cool stuff in that match and it was good overall. Sakuraba/Nagata remains my match of the night.
This was a show better than the sum of its parts. I don't think there was a great match on the card but everything delivered to some extent, the undercard stuff was fun and this is a great wrestling show to sit back and enjoy.

Just finished Nagata vs. Sakuraba and am about halfway done with this show. Fantastic thus far.
Also Yujiro's new porn gimmick is the best.
