Not sure if anyone has done this thread. What are some big upsets that you could think of.
Of course many will think of Hurricane over Rock and Horrowitz over Skip.
Some old time good ones I can think of.
Moondog Spot over Terry Funk: Wrestling classic tournament. By countout
Duke Drose over HHH: Sure it was by DQ but I would not have thought it was going to happen.
Bob Holly over Owen: It was non title and in Alabama
Aldo Montoya over Jeff Jerrett: This one was also non title and a controversial ending, and of course Jerrett won the rematch
Yoshi Tatsu over Shelton: Going into the match I am sure no one had Yoshi winning
Carlito over Cena: Did not expect him to win title in his debut
Jesus over Cena: Same as above
JYD over Randy Savage: finals of Wrestling classic
The Genius over Hulk Hogan: Probably the one Hogan wants to forget even if it was by countout.
Funaki over Spike and his qualification. Doubt anyone saw Funaki winning either of these matches.

Maven eliminating Undertaker at the royal rumble.
Virgil beating Bastion Booger in his debut match was an upset to me

Brooklyn Brawler over HHH. His celebration with Taka & Funaki afterwards almost had me in tears. :)

Jericho over HHH for the world title
Hardy over HHH for the IC belt
These are the two that sprang to mind first.
Trips over Austin at No Way Out 2001. No one thought be was winning that.

Nothing tops this in terms of an upset. No one saw that coming.

There is no such thing as an upset in pro wrestling. It is maddening that people even bet on it.

Care to dispute it? It's not a jab on pro wrestling, but betting on it is no different than betting on the topic of Blue's Clues.
A true upset is a wonderful thing, but "upsets" in pro wrestling are controlled by bookers making random decisions.

No dude, I don't care about wrestling betting. But you going literal on the word "upset" to bring up your beef with something totally unrelated is out of left field.

Sheamus beating Cena to win the title at TLC 2009 jumps out at me as a big one that hasn't been mentioned. Just totally random. I can't believe anyone saw that coming. People thought it was a screw-up that he won (that he was supposed to fall through a table at the same time and it would be a draw). Bryan beating Cena at Summerslam wouldn't be anywhere close to that level of shock. I would have said Cena was 95% likely to win that match going in.

And don't take that as a personal shot, Mark, you know I love you. You're just being a bit of a dickhead.
Ps, how's your little girl? She's gotta be running around and talking up a storm by now.

How about Jericho beating Stone Cold and Rocky in the same night to become the first undisputed Champion?
I sure as hell didn't expect that.

Punk winning MITB the first time was a pretty major upset, IMO. Prior to Punk, we'd had Edge, RVD, and Mr. Kennedy, all of whole felt like they were ready to taste the main event when they won. Punk was pretty fresh out of ECW, which was, by then, considered the kiddie leagues.

Do bookers roll dice? Congratulations on a 'wrestling is fake' post. So you feel no surprise at any fictional story then? Maybe you should impart this wisdom in the GoT thread

Swagger winning MITB and then the title, didnt expect either.
Benoit winning the Royal Rumble.
Cena beating Jericho (one of his first matches)
Anaconda Sniper
July 24th, 2013, 11:03 PM
Shield beating the super friends of Cena, Ryback, and Sheamus. Pretty sure 95% of people if not everyone thought the Shield were gonna lose.
Daniel Bryan winning the mitb in 2011. What a night that ppv was can even add CM Punk beating Cena too.

Exactly. His line of reasoning is absurd.

Honestly, Punk winning the second time was way more of a shock to me. I just wasn't even thinking of it as a possibility. Came totally out of left field because his push had been diminished so much leading up.

None of us were around for it, but Ivan Koloff beating Bruno Sammartino to end his eight year title reign in 1971 definitely qualifies. According to Wiki, the crowd was just stunned silent. A lot of them had probably never seen Bruno lose a match for the previous decade. People probably just thought he was going to be champion forever.
Anyone mention Shelton Benjamin beating Triple H? That was awesome. Also JBL beating Eddie Guerrero at Great American Bash 2004, which was definitely not awesome. And Bret Hart losing the WWF Championship to Bob Backlund in 1994. Can't believe anyone saw that coming. Although it made more sense when Backlund dumped the belt to Diesel a few days later. And Miz winning at Wrestlemania 27 against Cena. People are going to look back on that in ten years and just be baffled.
