View Full Version : Who Would Get the Biggest Royal Rumble Return Pop?

Warrior being in the 2K14 video game made me think about this. Clock ticks down to zero for a Royal Rumble entry, buzzer sounds...who's music would get the crowd to blow up the loudest?
I think Austin is #1. Being so beloved and not having wrestled in over ten years now, I think the response he would get would be crazy.
Warrior is up there. We haven't seen him on WWF/WWE TV since 1996. 17 years is a long, long time. I think he'd get a pretty massive nostalgia reaction. Actually, if him and the company came to terms I think him entering the Rumble as a surprise would be awesome.
I'll throw in Razor Ramon/Scott Hall. If he gets sober, having him do a surprise return would be a pretty fantastic moment.
Hogan has to be nominated. Hogan always gets a big pop for his returns (and pretty much anything else). I think the last time he was on WWE TV was the Raw 15th anniversary in 2007? That's a long time he's been gone.

I think Angle making a big return in the Rumble would be NUTS.
Imagine Sting making his WWE debut at #27 or something. It would drive the crowd wild and give Sting some time in the ring to fuck people up. Could be awesome.
or my top vote. Number 18, the ring is PACKED, the buzzer hits and we hear...

I'd say Goldberg and Angle. Maybe Jeff Hardy would be up there as well? :dunno:.
Austin will always get a nice pop of course but we have seen him quite regularly over the years.

Austin. He's arguably the most popular star of all time and he'd be wrestling for the first time in over a decade.

Austin, Hogan and Angle would be huge. Batista would also get a huge pop, I think loads of old school guys like Jake and warrior would get a good pop depending on the crowd demographic.

Definitely Austin. Even if he's physically limited to a Sheik-esque Mania 17 performance, the roof would blow off.
Batista and Goldberg could draw a decent sized explosion no matter where the Rumble was.
Warrior I feel would depend on where it was: an MSG crowd might be 100% on their feet, a particularly smarky Philly or Chicago crowd might not get as big a pop.
A few years down the line, I could see a 1 night only HBK entry getting the full Austinesque pop we've discussed. He'd get that pop TODAY, but seems happy where he is in life right now.
Less seriously, though I would LOVE the comedy of it - give us a blowoff to the Drew Carey/Kane interaction from Rumble '01... ;)
EDIT: Chatty just beat me to the Warrior point - Great minds, and all that... :D

I actually think X-Pac could be a valuable member of the roster. Manager/tag team partner/part-time wrestler. That guy is just so fucking hateable. You see him on TV and wish he was standing there in front of you so you could punch him in his scummy little face. I haven't figured out exactly how they could use him yet, but I'll think of something.

To clarify, I actually really like X-Pac and think that Sean Waltman is one of the most underrated performers in wrestling history. Dude was fucking awesome back in the day, and was still pretty damn good even after his neck injury. In shoot interviews, he comes off as a pretty intelligent guy who has struggled with some things in his life, quite possibly as a consquence of breaking into the wrestling business and hitting it big too soon (Dude was like 19 when he started with the WWF).
But he plays an amazing dirtbag. There's a reason that towards the end of his career he was getting booed even during the Invasion when he was with the WWF.

Austin is undoubtably number one here.
Angle could be pretty huge too. Especially as the crowd would mark like lunatics then joyously go into "YOU SUCK" for his music.
One that I've thought they should do for years, not necessarily for the Rumble, is having Vickie come out to Latino Heat or Viva La Rasa. It would get about the biggest pop ever for about three seconds and then the most heat ever for five minutes.

Been on a big Angle kick recently, so would love to see him return. Crowd reaction would be spot on!
And that Vickie thing is cold, I love it. Doubt it will happen though. How would people react too? Cheer? Think Eddie's back? Would be surreal...

Austin/Angle/Batista plus they're all still pretty current so people would know who was coming, which helps.
Oh and Edge...

I love you so very much right now. Ringo & I have been co-captains of the official Rajah Sean Waltman fan club for years. The man was ahead of his time. If he ever came back I'd pop a boner hard enough to break diamonds.

People who would get surprisingly big responses:
-The Boogeyman
-Val Venis
-Al Snow
-Hardcore Holly
Basically, every Attitude Era midcarder. And The Boogeyman.
