First off, I have only heard of 'Sherlock' earlier today, so I have no idea if there's any relation between the shows. For those of you who don't know, it's basically a prequel of Sherlock Holmes, which there seems to be a big trend with television shows recently. I've just finished the first season, which is pretty good in my books. It's very 'House' done in murders and robberies at times, but it works well enough. Watson seems a bit "I'm just here to say things very simple so the audience is sure to understand it" a lot of the time as well. It's not blow your mind good, but it's worth checking out for sure. Anyone else been watching?

I really love this show. It's a fresh take on something that's been done many different ways in the past. Liu is great as Watson, and Johnny Lee Miller is a great recovering drug addict Holmes.

It's not a prequel, it's an entirely new take on the Sherlock story. Having Watson as a sponsor was a very smart way of including his drug use.

Watched a few of the early episodes and enjoyed it, though didn't hold my interest to keep on through the series. Might give it another shot.

It's definitely a serial style show, but with an overall story arc that's quite good.

I don't mind it. Certainly watchable but it's not amazing. As you said Hurley, I agree with how it feels... described it to my wife as Dr House Solves Crimes.

I quiet enjoyed it was a nice bonus that Natalie Dormer turned up as I love Natalie Dormer.

I like this more than Sherlock.

This is the first non comedy that I've stuck with on a long time. Nothing special but I finally get why people get hooked on crime procedurals, and this is really my first one. Yes, I can generally guess right away who the killer is, but I enjoy seeing how they manage to divert the motivation.

The writing is above average for a serial too. Johnny Lee Miller's performance is really quite good, and Lucy Liu is much better than I expected her to be in the role of Watson.

Just realized I've made the same post in this thread like 2 1/2 times.

I tried the first episode of this after digesting BBC's Sherlock in a short time period and just couldn't really get into it. I'm in need of something to watch and have thought about giving it another chance, but that first episode just didn't grab me. :\

Update: I'm now 2 episodes away from being caught up. I think watching it a bit farther removed from Sherlock allowed me not to view it so harshly and I actually quite enjoy it now. I really like Jonny Lee Miller's portrayal of Sherlock. I think the writing and mystery is a bit tighter in Sherlock, and the cinematography is just beautiful, but there's something about Miller's Sherlock and the relationship between he and Joan that I think I enjoy more than Cumerbatch's and his relationship with Freeman's Watson.

First of all, Cumberbatch's Sherlock would seem to be a genius who simply lacks tact and is plain rude. Miller's is more savant-like and borders on Asperger's far more than Benedict's portrayal. To that end I really like Miller's ticks and quirks that he adds. I also like how Joan and he have bonded and she's grown to be quite a skilled detective in a short time, with him looking at her as an equal.

I still feel like Freeman's Watson isn't quite as adept and while there have been moments where Benedict's Sherlock has shown admiration for John I don't think it's quite on the same level as in Elementary.

One thing I will say, does the layout of the Brownstone confuse anyone? They enter on one floor, but there appears to be another (including the kitchen) below which backs onto the courtyard and would appear to have windows facing the street. Is the lower level partially below ground and the level with the entrance a half-floor up from ground level? It's doing my head in, to be honest.

Apologies if I touch on something already covered but I have skipped most posts in the thread since I want to avoid spoilers. I gave this a shot after finding myself looking for a new TV show, and I have been impressed a fair bit beyond my initial wariness. I figured it was just another murder-porn procedural with the added insult of apeing Sherlock, a derivative of derivatives. I'm enjoying our mains, with Miller seeming to have taken on the voice and persona of Derren Brown as much as Sherlock Holmes, and Lucy Liu being a surprisingly open and interesting character when it could have been so easy to make her tough as nails and dull as dishwater. Can't wait to see Natalie Dormer as Moriarty, she was fantastic in the Tudors and I am anticipating a fun villain.

Finished the first season, and while I went through it quickly and thoroughly enjoyed most of it, I'm finding myself pretty much satisfied. I'll probably try to catch up and follow along with the current season if I can find the episodes on demand but the way the finale to last season resolved I'm not finding myself driven to keep going. I'll put this in spoilers for those just getting into it:

After all of her brilliant schemes, Moriarty's downfall seemed both tame and rushed. Holmes wearing a wire to capture her confession, which she's daft enough to blurt out in a hospital room, and she's swiftly bundled away? That's quite the anti-climax and I don't think it really works. It's almost as if they ran out of money or lost Natalie Dormer somehow and had to throw together some way to catch Moriarty at the last minute. Maybe I missed something but that did not seem to reach the heights of the rest of the series. I expect she'll be back anyway, this can't be the end of Holmes vs. Moriarty already, but it just didn't seem to fit them at all.

This show and the Walking Dead are probably my 2 favorite shows of the last year or so (not sure exactly when Elementary started but I think it was 2012). I love how incredibly fast paced Sherlock is with his findings and I'm not a fan of Sherlock Holmes movies, books, outside of this particular show so forgive me if this is an obvious character trait. I can see how Robert Downey Jr. is able to pull of this role as well as both he and Johnny Lee Miller have a similar approach, I just like JLM's a lot more. Perfect role for this guy who I honestly can say haven't seen anything of his since that movie with Angelina Jolie back in the 90's.

Bringing this thread back. This season has been pretty damn good so far with the introduction of Sherlock's new protege Kittie. Who here is watching this on a regular basis? Do you find the introduction of Kittie to be too much and were you a fan of just the Sherlock/Watson team or does this 3rd party add even more to the show? Detective Bell is probably my favorite, dude needs more lines.

Not been keen on Kittie so far but agree the season has been pretty good.

I find this show really watchable, I usually couldn't turn off a crime procedural fast enough. Kitty is fine, you have to break the status quo somehow if you're going to have 200 episodes.

I don't like Kitty, at all, and I want Natalie Dormer back. Still, it's somehow really watchable for a formulaic procedural, as Rog said. I used to like those until I got burnt out with NCIS spinning its wheels for years then replacing Ziva with some kind of robot programmed to be an attractive aspie. This thread reminded me that I've missed the last couple of episodes, I'll need to catch up.
