There’s a huge roster shakeup upcoming and not for the better.
Before the show, President Yuji Sakagami and Vice President Black Buffalo appeared with Osaka Pro Champion Daisuke Harada, HAYATA, Kuuga, Hideyoshi, Masamune, and Orochi. It was announced that Harada and Kuuga would not be renewing their contracts and resigning from Osaka Pro effective after April 29. HAYATA, Hideyoshi, Masamune & Orochi will be switched from regular weekend participation to freelance.
As a result, Harada and HAYATA will be giving up their respective titles. Thus, other than the comedy titles, there won’t be any champions currently in Osaka Pro.
HAYATA commented after the opener, thanking the fans for their support and again stating that he’ll be gone from Osaka Pro starting on the 29th.
After the third match, Tigers Mask mentioned how today was another mass withdrawal from Osaka Pro. In a small rallying cry for Osaka Pro fans, Billyken Kid said that Osaka Pro will forever be immortal as long as there’s a Billyken Kid.
Kuuga commented after the main event that JOKER will be disbanded after April 29. Harada revealed that he’ll be working in Tokyo after his Osaka Pro career concludes.
Definitely not the best day for an Osaka Pro fan. It should be noted that other than Harada, the other wrestlers weren’t from the Osaka area. One would have to initially think that this might be a cost-cutting move from management.
Osaka Pro’s foundation was shaken up Saturday with the announcement of Daisuke Harada and Kuuga resigning from the company, as well as Hideyoshi, Masamune, Orochi & HAYATA going from regular weekend participation to freelance. All of this will be effective on April 29.
As you can imagine, the fanbase is in a state of shock. For the second straight anniversary show, they’ll be saying goodbye to somebody on the roster.
So far, these have been the comments from the forementioned wrestlers, mostly via Ameblo blog:
Harada: Harada said his resignation was due to growing more as a professional wrestler. He thanked the fans for their support and stated that he has no regrets over his time in Osaka Pro.
Hideyoshi: Hideyoshi only released a sentence about his situation, saying that he would comment about it at a later date.
Masamune: Masamune said he wasn’t retired, but just disappearing from Osaka. He said that if there’s a beginning, there must be an end as well.
Orochi: Orochi thanked the fans and staff for their support and added that he’ll still be on Tiger Mask’s annual Kyoto show in June.
