... and I've not owned a console, nor really played games, since the N64...

I had a bit of a browse in various stores that sell computer games over the last few days and came to the conclusion I know absolutely fuck all about what games are meant to be good or things that I would enjoy. I'm pretty sure the last game I bought was Perfect Dark so things have probably moved on quite a lot since then.

So I thought maybe some people could help me out and suggest games that I should really at least give a go to make up for the last 12 years, I have a bit of disposable income at the moment so I'm not averse to buying a few things that are meant to be amazing and seeing if I like them. Do people still rent games?

I dont really have a lot to go on, other than I liked Goldeneye quite a lot and I remember not liking Resident Evil, mainly because I was shit at it.

So yeah, help me please!

Blu-rays and Netflix are just about the only action my ps3 sees anymore. If you like shooing things, I'd recommend picking Call of Duty as the online play can be a bit of fun. You could check out some of the big titles like Assassin's Creed, Arkham Asylum, and God of War if you're looking to get into story-heavy games that can be fun. Not to mention, the earlier games in the series' are discounted quite heavily these days.

It sounds like you like shooters, so I would give the Uncharted series a shot. If you only have to play one, then play Uncharted 2.

Get a PSN card. and pick up Journey and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. Neither are the shooter you are looking for, but are great games. For the FPS genre you describe, find this one on the cheap.

 the guy hasn't played hardly any games in 12 years, and you want to punish him for it?

thegoat get some experiences under your belt with the system before you try this gem. It is a great game, but it is quite the challenge for even seasoned gamers.
