Games you've bought and never played

Surely I am not the only one with this disease.

I have a stack that's too embarassing to list here. I've been good at not adding to it for the past year or so, but the it's still sitting there, mocking me, like some polycarbonate demon. Some of them came from the hype of "OH MY GOD I NEED TO GET THIS AT LAUNCH", then never finding time to sink into it. But most of them came from second-hand purchases, thinking "wow, this is cheap, how can I NOT buy it!?", and later realizing "you know what would've actually been cheaper? NOT buying it!". And that's not even mentioning the list of Steam games I've never bothered to install.

The earliest one I can remember was SimCity 3000. I don't know why I had a craving to play a SimCity game, but when I brought it home and saw that gigantic manual, I instantly thought to myself "hey, no way this is fun", and it just took up space on my shelf from then on. That was sort of the gateway.

So yes, confess your sins, and let's talk about why we punish ourselves like this.

Assassins Creed, bought it cheap months ago, simply haven't got round to playing it yet, too many good games coming out recently.
Couple of years ago , I was still drunk from the night before and bought Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, never played them, gave them to a friend for Christmas.
I have actually done this with way to many games in the past, but these are the two that come to mind, the problem is if I see a game at a cheap/reasonable price, I tend to buy it, no matter if i have a queue of several games to play or not.

I've never bought a game and not played it but there have been a few that I've bought and played once. Two notable ones being Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Fallout: New Vegas. Not that they're bad games but I picked up Oblivion after spending countless hours on Skyrim, and I just couldn't get past the (relatively) terrible graphics. New Vegas just wasn't my cup of tea and I didn't find it nearly as enjoyable as I did Fallout 3.

I have loads of games like that. I don't even open them until I'm ready to play. Most recently is Silent Hill 2 & 3 HD, but those shouldn't count as I've beaten them before. Catherine sat on the shelf like that for nearly six months before I took it out and lost interest. Some I never play and either return or sell.

I can relate to only playing a game once or twice, too. If you add that to the criteria, my stack is far worse.

The most recent example is probably Borderlands 2. Some friends talked me into pre-ordering the 4-pack with them. Since then I've played it for exactly 45 minutes. Yes, I've spent more time installing it then playing it.

If you include downloaded games, then holy fuck is my list massive. Been downloading from XBL since I got the 360 and have probably 15 games on the PS3 that I've downloaded and never touched.

I have WAAAAY too many. Ironically, I started about four games today that I've never played before, some of which I've had more than a year.

I'm just always on the lookout for bargains. If I see something for $10 or less, I'll grab it, even if I don't intend on playing it for months. Yesterday I found Metroid: Other M at Best Buy for $7.99. I almost popped it open today, but there's 3 or 4 games in the Wii queue ahead of it.

PS3 is by far the worst. I have some games that are 80-90% done, others that are 40-50% done, some that are 10-20% done, and way too many that are still in their shrinkwrap.

Yeah, I think Gamestop had it for $10 last Black Friday. I didn't have a Wii then.

The thing I always regret is if I buy a game, don't open it for six months, and then see it again for cheaper than I bought it. It's only happened a couple times... most recently it was FFXIII-2. I got it for $20 way back when, and could have gotten it for $10 a couple weeks ago.

Not only that, they require an investment every time they play...I can't sit down at an RPG for 30 minutes at a time. It's much easier to fire up Call of Duty, play until I remember how terrible I am, then turn it off and do whatever chore I have waiting for me.

Although I have been known to download and never play indie games, too, so it's not an airtight excuse.

Again, same here. I have so many JRPG's sitting on my shelf. Right now I'm stuck on Record of Agarest War. The first two chapters were easy enough, but I'm hitting walls on chapter 3. Plus I'm going for the platinum, so I'm playing on hard.

On my shelf, I also have the collectors editions of RoAW Zero and RoAW 2, so hopefully those will get played some day.

The God of War collection came with my last PS3 controller and I've yet to break them out. I think it's 1 and 2, I've already beat 1 but haven't played any of the others. I also have inFamous from the freeby after Sony leaked out credit card information and have never even loaded it up. That's about it though. I don't buy a lot of games so when I do, they usually get my full attention for at least a month or two.

I've got Silent Blood Curse which I tried to play twice, got killed of the first bloke you encounter within two mnute and put back in its box never to be taken out since. Looks like it could be a pretty good game though.

I also have Darkness II, Darksiders II and some James Bond game I got free with my phone that I haven't had time to look at yet and Resident Evil 6 which I played for about half an hout and wasnt impressed. i'll give it another blast though
