Anybody else watching this? I've been laughing almost non-stop.

Bert

Well if this show gets a thread I want to make one for Jeselnik Offensive.

Mark Hammer
March 1st, 2013, 11:38 PM
Is it any good?

Bert
March 1st, 2013, 11:42 PM
Probably better than this show that I've never watched, but I'll give this one a shot. Offensive is in the name though so if you take things too seriously don't watch it. The first episode has Anthony telling cancer jokes to cancer patients. The second has jokes about that guy with no legs who killed his girlfriend.

Bert
March 2nd, 2013, 12:48 AM
This is funny. This guy has a good deadpan. And Archer was on it! I still like Jeselnik Offensive more though.

Mark Hammer
March 2nd, 2013, 1:40 AM
You had never seen it before because this was the first episode. You probably missed the poo-flavored yogurt bit but it was hilarious. Give the re-run a proper viewing.

The Offensive show you keep talking about. I've seen commercials but I've never seen the show. I will catch it the next time it is on.

Bert
March 2nd, 2013, 2:04 AM
I watched the whole episode. I download shows. You should know this by now. I'm downloading that other new one The Ben Show now. Soon every comedian will have their own tv show. Except Mitch Hedberg. Because he's dead. :(

Silly me. Cable tv is so 5 years ago.

Watching people treat the hero pig video like it was a real thing was amazing.

Really funny show. You definitely have to have a certain tolerance for cringe humor, though.

Anyone watch The Ben Show?

Mark Hammer
March 8th, 2013, 1:34 AM
Yeah, The Ben Show is pretty funny. I prefer this one though.

Lol at the one news anchor. "They couldn't stage this at Universal Studios!"

Beer-Belly
March 8th, 2013, 1:41 AM
The Ben Show is more up my alley just because I prefer that style of comedy. The Gangsta Granny audition bit was one of the funniest things I've seen on TV in a while.

Just watched the first episode of this, pretty funny after the terrible bit about shit-flavoured ice cream at the start. I loved the interview with the kid in his ear answering the questions for him.

"What that means?"

Simon
April 10th, 2013, 7:51 AM
This is bloody great. Every episode has at least one bit that just kills me. In the fourth episode which I'm just watching now, it was the perfect delivery of "I'm gonna be honest with you guys...this will never end.".

Just watched 'Claw of Shame' in full. I haven't laughed that hard all season when he said "your faces will all be blurred out" and they were barely blurred out at all.

How does he not break character at all?!

The best bit of that episode IMO was Nathan getting increasingly frustrated at everyone refusing to give up on his meandering riddles, and just saying "I'm going to be honest with you. This will NEVER end". So good.

Also of course in the haunted house episode, suggesting the tag line "where pussies go to relax".

"It's 98% accurate and he HAS pleasured himself to online pornography." ahahaha the stone-faced way the guy said that as he gradually got more angry about his methods being questioned was so good.

Also I love the continuation of the first series' theme of Nathan using the show to try and make friends, and also that he's still ensuring he's always the butt of the joke. So many of the ideas in this show could be mean-spirited in the wrong hands, but using the lie detector to establish that the mechanic doesn't want to see him outside of the show was yet another great way of establishing Nathan as being of lower status than the people he's 'helping'.

The new one was pretty good. A few people I spoke to didn't like how it was all one project, but I loved the continuity from last season.

His social awkwardness with the Actress, his obvious choice to take the harder way out each time ("you could just refund them... or make a film?"), using the Judge again who is so oblivious to the real premise of the TV show... It was incredibly awkward.

It's a crime that this show isn't more popular. The most recent episode was just so densely packed with great ideas. I kind of wish he would have more one-concept episodes as he showed with the Depp episode that he's capable of going further into ideas without losing quality or quantiy of jokes. There was something great about the whirlwind way he flew through three marketing plans in the latest episode, breathlessly moving onto the next joke or bit of weirdness with no time to think...but it really seems like (especially in the second series) there was so much more he could do.

What I love about this show most is how utterly unpredictable it is, without ever seeming self-consciously wacky. Getting the bug-ridden bed out of the hotel with the use of a Chinese dragon was just incredible.

Also the people he gets into the show are great. I'm a little dubious as to whether they're normal people or actors, but even if they are actors they nail every scene - the private detective that hates him is fantastic as is Solomon, but even minor characters like the child actor from the most recent episode just nails it perfectly. "I better go...skip classes".

Anyone see the Dumb Starbucks episode? Thought it was comfortably the weakest of the series personally. It was still decent and there were a lot of great moments (the whole lawyer office scene was fantastic) but the actual idea itself didn't have much depth to it and the jist of it was already explained when it went viral. The whole office romance thing was rubbish as well. I still enjoyed it and it was miles more inventive than almost anything else on TV, but the depth and variety of ideas was way beneath previous episodes...the media's reaction to the story was funny in itself and I can understand why there was an emphasis on that, but the actual business plan didn't have much to it.

I'll be honest - I think my expectations were a little too high for this episode as a whole. Pretty much my thoughts exactly. The office attractiveness thing was just pure awkwardness, but the guys he was asking didn't really react in a way that made it funny. They just sat there and took it.

I think reading Simons post lowered my expectations, and then I was pleasantly surprised. Cheers mate.

Anyone seen the latest ep? Fucking hell that was great. Nathan Fielder has a great eye for picking people who will kick out their own madness separate from what he's trying to provoke. In the first season you had that gas station guy talking about how his grandma convinced him to drink his own piss, and in the latest episode you had that dating woman turn out to be an insane conspiracy theorist  such a fantastic show. That Daddy guy was a fucking nutter, the bit where he tried the camera stunt was incredible.

Simon
August 11th, 2014, 9:38 AM
Yep, the original season was commissioned for ten episodes but Nathan himself asked it to be scaled back to 8 because he wanted to keep the quality as high as possible.

The final episode was fucking incredible, possibly my favourite ever. The "Simon Sees" documentary was just inspired, and the way the queue jump idea expanded was insane.

The reveal that his original idea was to sink the boat with the criminal on board was fucking brilliant, especially when his next best idea was simply to shock him with a stick of prank gum

Aye, this is a funny show. 4 and a half years ago I begat this thread, where has the time gone? Either way I'm glad it's that time again.

Is the host serious? Or is he acting up? That exchange about Holocaust Awareness was incredible. I can't work him out or not.

I'm pretty sure he's in on it, he's just a really subtle source for punchlines. Fantastic chemistry with Nathan nonetheless; Nathan's expressions of disgust were priceless.

The threesome stuff was legendary and I'm not so sure he was part of the joke at that time because he seemed genuinely defensive when Nathan told the ladies he had a m-m-m sexual encounter.

He has to be. That 15 seconds of free air time bit was great too, but almost too perfect.

It's the awkward silences that get me. Pure dead air and it's cringeworthy like nothing I've seen before.

The host did a great job of matching Nathan's awkwardness, especially during his interview with Salomon

Anyone seen the first 'proper' episode of the new series? Christ almighty, even by Nathan For You standards that was fucking bonkers. So much going on. I loved the name change guy, it was so funny how quickly he switched from suspicious to completely complicit regarding jumping through each hoop, once he understood the reasons for doing it.

It's amazing how far Nathan is willing to go for what, at least at fave value, seems like a fairly simple mission. At first this episode reminded me of the souvenir shop one with the Johnny Depp lookalike, but then the whole thing just kept getting more and more detailed

I love how he embraces the difficulties given to him at every step. His newspaper idea was nothing short of brilliant.

This Uber episode

Even by Nathan's usual standards the last two episodes have been completely mental. The scuba diving part of the Uber episode was incredible, this tiny element that would have taken so much planning  and I love that at the end of this incredibly detailed plan, it just fizzles out to absolutely nothing.

The Kimmel episode...fucking hell. He's an actual genius, isn't he? Imagine wasting primetime national exposure on a meandering anecdote that is only funny once you see the episode it leads into...the balls on him. Brilliant.

I fell for the anecdote, 100%. When I saw the episode, I just sat back and thought "you absolute bastard". What a guy.

UK heads, this is now on Comedy Central on Wednesday nights. It's incredible.

Also Clive, is that Seth Myers interview recent? Only cos the clip they show is from a few years ago.

EDIT: Ah it makes sense now, I think you posted the wrong video, this is the recent one...

Yeah, wrong video (updated). I was posting on my phone, didn't properly check out. The sequence of chat show appearances is so good.

I watched the first episode it was good, and I immediately wanted to watch the next one. Looked it up on Comedy Central UK and episode 2 isn't available until the middle of next week.

This show is 4 years old and they are making us wait another 2 weeks for the next episode. What's up with that?

Simon
November 9th, 2017, 8:36 AM
It's worth the wait. Assuming they are being shown in order, the first episode (was there a poo ice cream segement?) is nowhere near as good as everything that comes after it.

Just torrent the lot of them, piece of piss. There is an episode in the first series based around a gas station that is one of the funniest episodes of anything ever.

Got behind with this but just watched the finale. Brilliant, mad and genuinely emotional at the end. Maci is a heartbreaking character even if that wasn't the point - clearly intelligent and sweet, stuck in a seedy line of work. Hopefully she's one of those that enjoys the money and doesn't let it kill her self-esteem.

So good isn't it? I loved this summary in the New Yorker; https://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/the-nathan-for-you-finale-my-new-favorite-love-story

"The series, and this episode especially, is a perfect imitation of life. I mean, a perfect imitation of an imitation of life"
